Today’s edition of The Jeremy Kyle Show was cancelled and immediately replaced by a filler programme after a heartbreaking tragedy. ITV issued a statement revealing the series was pulled following the news a guest on the chat show died only one week after filming their episode. The channel have now suspended the programme to “conduct a review” of the episode and what happened. “Everyone at ITV and The Jeremy Kyle Show is shocked and saddened,” an ITV spokesperson said. “At the news of the death of a participant in the show a week after the recording of the episode they featured in. “Our thoughts are with their family and friends. “ITV will not screen the episode in which they featured,” the representative continued. “Given the seriousness of this event, ITV has also decided to suspend both filming and broadcasting of The Jeremy Kyle Show with immediate effect. “In order to give it time to conduct a review of this episode of the show.” ITV decided to air an repeat episode of Dickinson’s Real Deal in Jeremy Kyle’s regular slot instead. Viewers were left puzzled and frustrated when they realised the programme had been taken off-air today. Flocking to Twitter to question the decision, one viewer shared: “Taken today of at work to watch #jeremykyleshow not the #realdeal @ITVJeremyKyle @ITV.” “Sad day indeed. Thoughts with the family of the person that has died. Thinking of all our lovely #JeremyKyle staff,” another posted. A third wondered: “I think by the sounds of it there is going to be an investigation into the episode in which the guest who died was to be featured on. Sounds to me as though the outcome of that will determine whether the show will continue. #jeremykyle.” While a fourth wrote: “This is the end of #jeremykyle?! What will I watch now to make myself feel better?!” “#jeremykyle suspended indefinitely?! Somethings gone down. Why wouldn’t they just replace the episode with a repeat. Sad for the person who’s lost their life though,” a fifth added. Viewers continued to share their wishes for everyone involved, as one person said: “Sad news that a guest has passed away. “#JeremyKyle is utter sh**e TV but somebody passing away, however it’s happened is always sad.” It is not currently known who has died, but ITV will release further information in due course. The Jeremy Kyle Show normally airs weekdays at 9.30am on ITV.

Hours after FBI Director Christopher Wray announced the arrest of Cesar Sayoc in connection with sending 13 IEDs, Twitter finally suspended two accounts tied to Sayoc. Once he was identified, internet users quickly found posts of his showing videos and pictures taken at rallies for President Donald Trump, as well as a number of social media posts threatening various people, including some of the same people that the bombs were addressed to.
One of the people who received his threats was political analyst Rochelle Ritchie, who tweeted screenshots showing threats Sayoc made toward her, and Twitter’s response to her reports: to do nothing. Despite promising her a “nice silent air boat ride” on October 11th after she appeared on Fox News, the company inexplicably decided there was “no violation” of its rules. Now, after his arrest, and after removing both accounts, Twitter’s Safety account tweeted “We made a mistake when Rochelle Ritchie first alerted us to the threat made against her. The Tweet clearly violated our rules and should have been removed. We are deeply sorry for that error.”

An update. We made a mistake when Rochelle Ritchie first alerted us to the threat made against her. The Tweet clearly violated our rules and should have been removed. We are deeply sorry for that error.

We want Twitter to be a place where people feel safe, and we know we have lot of work to do.

While the company says it’s investigating, that holds cold comfort for anyone facing threats made via social media. While Twitter isn’t responsible for the man’s criminal actions, it does have policies in place that are supposed to intervene when users are threatening others on its platform. CNN reported that other tweets on the account sent to Trump specifically threatened Eric Holder and former vice president Joe Biden, in posts that were still live when Sayoc was arrested for his connection to the bombs that were actually targeting their homes. Ritchie later posted another message from Twitter, claiming its earlier dismissal was “sent in error.”

California has agreed to delay enforcement of its net neutrality law until after litigation that will determine whether states can implement their own net neutrality rules.
California’s net neutrality law was slated to take effect on January 1, 2019. But the Trump administration’s Department of Justice and broadband industry sued to block the law and were seeking a preliminary injunction that would halt enforcement until litigation is over.
The DOJ and broadband industry had a good chance of winning a preliminary injunction because the Federal Communications Commission had declared that all state net neutrality rules are preempted. As the DOJ argued, the US District Court for the Eastern District of California must presume that the FCC preemption of state laws is valid since that preemption has not been overturned by any court.

Earlier this week, Microsoft started distributing the Windows 10 October 2018 Update, version 1809, to Windows users who manually checked for updates. The company has now halted that rollout after many reports that installing the update is causing serious data loss: specifically, deleting the Documents, and perhaps Pictures, folders. Microsoft is also advising anyone who has downloaded the update but not yet installed it to not install it at all.
The exact circumstances causing data loss aren’t clear; the handful of reports on Microsoft’s forums and Reddit don’t have any obvious commonalities, and people report seeing only one affected system among many when upgraded. There will need to be some amount of investigation before a fix can be developed.
This will be too late for anyone that’s suffered data loss; although file recovery/undelete tools might be able to salvage the deleted files, the only reliable way of recovering them is to restore from a backup.

A strict new real-time disclosure law has forced Google to suspend political advertising in the Evergreen State. “Ads related to ballot measures and state and local elections in the state of Washington, U.S.A., will not be accepted,” a new Google policy says.
As Geekwire explains, the new rules were enacted by Washington state’s Public Disclosure Commission to implement provisions of new campaign finance legislation that was passed in March. The rules require ad brokers like Google to provide information to the public about who is funding political ads and how those ads are being targeted. The rules also require this information to be made available as soon as ads start to run.
Google says that it intends to comply with the law, but it doesn’t yet have the infrastructure to provide the required information so quickly.

A support document from Apple drives another nail in the coffin for the original Apple TV, first introduced in 2007. On May 25, 2018, first-generation Apple TV devices will no longer be able to connect to the iTunes Store due to new security changes to be implemented by Apple. In addition to first-gen Apple TVs, any PCs running Windows XP or Windows Vista will also lose access to the most recent version of iTunes.
According to the document, the “obsolete” original Apple TV won’t be updated in the future to support access to the iTunes Store. After May 25, users will only be able to access iTunes on second-generation Apple TVs and newer streaming devices.
The same security changes affecting the first-gen Apple TV will also affect Windows XP and Vista machines. Users on such devices can still run previous versions of iTunes, so they should still be able to play their music library without problems.

The New York Giants suspended second-year cornerback Eli Apple for “conduct detrimental” to the team.
The suspension comes after ugly scenes unfolded between Apple, Giants safety Landon Collins, coaches, and the media.
It began on Tuesday when Collins called Apple a “cancer” while on ESPN radio, saying the Giants defense was fine except for him.
“There’s only just one corner that … needs to grow, and we all know who that is,” Collin said, adding, “But that first pick … he’s a cancer.”
The comment obviously sparked controversy on the team, and Collins and Apple reportedly both met with interim coach Steve Spagnuolo and then with each other. Collins apologized for the comment.
It didn’t, however, end the controversy for Apple. On Wednesday, Apple reportedly got into a confrontation with cornerbacks coach Tim Walton and was restrained by teammates.
Apple also declined to talk to media on Wednesday, passing through the locker room and saying, “I gotta take a s—,” prompting criticism from some in the NFL world.
Overall, the situation doesn’t look good for Apple. According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Apple is not well-liked in the Giants locker room and has been criticized as being immature. He struggled with injuries and off-field incidents this season, turning in a poor performance on the field after a decent rookie season in 2016.
On Wednesday, ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported that Apple is likely done with the Giants. The Giants can void the remaining money on his deal this offseason, according to ESPN.

Students in Athens clashed with police on Friday while attempting to storm the Greek Ministry of Education building, a Ruptly video shows. Publishers suspended the free distribution of books citing payment delays from the ministry.
The video shows students throwing stones and chairs at the building entrance. Police in riot gear stop the demonstrators from entering the compound, but the confrontation eventually results in scuffles.

College students in Greece usually get textbooks for free, and the ministry of education pays the publishers.
Earlier in October, the Association of Scientific Book Publishers (ASBP) decided to suspend the distribution of books to university students for the 2017-2018 academic year after payment delays from the ministry of education, Greek media reported.
“The Ministry of Education has unprecedentedly delayed the fulfillment of its financial obligations,” an ASBP member said, as cited by the Greek Reported news site.
There were also payment delays in the past, but this year the textbook industry cannot cover the costs, the ASBP member added.

Three NGOs have suspended migrant search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean citing threats from the Libyan Coast Guard, leaving what they describe as a “deadly gap” in the area.
Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said it would suspend search and rescue activity of its ship, ‘Prudence,’ saying on Saturday that the vessel would cease operations because of “hostility” from Libya.
Save the Children and Sea Watch on Sunday also suspended their ongoing rescue operations in the Mediterranean over the same safety fears.
Libyan authorities announced a new search and rescue zone off its coast earlier this week, which MSF says extends into international waters.
Libya has restricted the access of humanitarian vessels carrying out rescues in international waters, as part of a bilateral attempt with Italy to control the flow of illegal migration across a Mediterrenean channel between the two countries.
MSF said the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) warned the NGO of the security risks associated with threats made by the Libyan Coast Guard to search and rescue vessels.
“European states and Libyan authorities are jointly implementing a blockade on the ability of people to seek safety,” Brice de le Vingne, MSF’s director of operations, said. “This is an unacceptable assault on people’s lives and dignity.”
MSF’s Loris De Filippi told Reuters the Libyan Coast Guard demanded the NGOs leave an area as big as hundreds of kilometers around its coast, where it had previously been allowed to carry our search and rescue.
Catalan NGO Practiva Open Arms accused the Libyan Coast Guard of firing warning shots at its boat and threatening the crew last week.
Sea Watch’s founder, Michael Busch Heuer, announced it would suspend its rescue missions and accused Libya of issuing an “explicit threat” against NGOs in the area.
“The reason for this is the changed security situation in the Western Mediterranean, after the Libyan government announced an indefinite and unilateral extension of their territorial waters – in connection with an explicit threat against the private NGOs,” Busch Heuer wrote on Facebook on Sunday.
“Under these circumstances, a continuation of our rescue work is not currently possible. It would be irresponsible towards our crews,” he added.
Italy began training and supporting the coast guard of the UN-backed Libyan government in Tripoli last week, in an effort to increase its ability to intercept migrant boats and send them back to Libya.
The Tripoli government is one of three claiming authority in the country, and its power is disputed by other rival groups in Libya.
Italy’s government has welcomed Libya’s decision to prevent NGOs from entering its waters, having previously suggested NGOs are in fact colluding with people smugglers to rescue migrants.
“This sends a signal that the balance is being restored in the Mediterranean,” Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano said Sunday.
Italy has struggled with the wave of refugees and migrants arriving at its coast. Reuters reports close to 600,000 migrants arrived in Italy over the last four years.
“If humanitarian ships are pushed out of the Mediterranean, there will be fewer ships in the area to rescue people from drowning,” Annemarie Loof, MSF’s operational manager, said.
“Those who will not drown will be intercepted and brought back to Libya, which we know is a place of lawlessness, arbitrary detention and extreme violence.”

The paper, seen by the news agency on Monday, also states that Berlin would like to see additional measures implemented by Brussels to raise financial pressure on Turkey.
The document states that Turkey’s pre-accession assistance (IPA) should be targeted “even more towards supporting democracy and the rule of law,” given recent developments in the country.
It notes that Berlin expects the European Commission to “shift funding away from Turkey in a way that is meaningful compared to the overall funding Turkey receives under the IPA schemes.”
IPA is aimed at supporting Turkey’s EU accession process and underlying reforms. For the 2014-2020 period, €4.45 billion (US$ 5.25 billion) has been allocated, of which €186 million has been paid out, the European Court of Auditors reported in May.
Germany’s desire to suspend Customs Union negotiations comes after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan demanded the agreement be updated in October 2015, in response to the refugee deal between Ankara and the bloc. The existing trade agreement was signed in 1995.
Ankara hopes the negotiations will pave the way for Turkey to export agricultural, dairy and industrial products to the EU without customs restrictions.
Berlin’s suggestions for the European Commission come amid simmering tensions between Germany and Turkey, including the arrest of a German human rights activist last month. Ankara charged the man with “supporting a terrorist organization,” despite Berlin stating that he had merely traveled to Turkey to speak at a local human rights workshop.
The arrest prompted German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel to issue a travel warning for citizens, saying that “German citizens in Turkey are no longer safe from arbitrary arrest.”
Relations between the two nations took a major turn following the botched military coup of 2016, when Ankara accused Berlin of harboring alleged supporters of US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, who Ankara believes was the mastermind behind the coup attempt. Gulen denies those accusations.
Turkey was also angered when Berlin provided asylum to Turkish officers allegedly linked to the coup, according to Tagesspiegel.
In March, the German government was among those who infuriated Erdogan, after several states refused to host rallies in support of Turkey’s constitutional referendum which eventually granted the leader sweeping powers.
He was angered once again this summer, when he was denied permission to stage a rally on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg.
In mid-July, Ankara withdrew permission granted to German lawmakers to check on troops stationed at a NATO base in Konya, in Turkey’s southwest. Ankara cited the poor state of German-Turkish relations as the reason.
Turkey also previously blocked access to German MPs at NATO’s base in Incirlik, which was once home to some 300 Bundeswehr soldiers and several reconnaissance jets. The move prompted Berlin to authorize the withdrawal of troops and equipment from Turkey in June, opting to relocate them to Jordan.
