After voting in favor of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Arizona) saw his office surrounded by protesters as opposition to President Trump’s SCOTUS pick is making the last ditch effort to swing the vote.

Flake had been undecided on Kavanaugh, but gave the judge his blessing during Friday’s tight cloture vote, helping Kavanaugh’s nomination win a 51-49 victory and proceed to the Senate floor on Saturday.

Immediately after the vote, protesters stormed Flake’s office, blocking the corridor outside and chanting “the system is corrupt—and that’s why we disrupt!” Capitol Police have reportedly arrested scores of demonstrators.

The vote officially ends deliberation on Kavanaugh’s nomination, but protesters have not relented in their efforts to sway the vote. Flake experienced this first-hand last week, when he was cornered in an elevator and berated by protesters – some of them connected with wealthy liberal organizations.

President Trump called the demonstrators “very rude elevator screamers,” in a tweet on Friday morning, while police continued to escort screeching activists out of federal buildings ahead of the crucial cloture vote.

Two fishermen became crocodile bait after falling victim to a bog tide in the Australian wild. To escape the hungry predators, they had to practice their survival skills on the roof of their stranded vehicle for days before help arrived.

Last Friday two Australian fishermen and their dog embarked on a rejuvenating voyage to grab some catch in the remote Kimberley region in north-west Australia. However, their four-wheel drive got stuck in a tidal bog that unexpectedly swamped the nature enthusiasts enjoying the breathtaking Australian scenery.

With their car filled with seawater and hopelessly stuck in the mud, the trio was forced on top of their vehicle to escape numerous tidal cycles. They stayed on top of the car for four nights in fear of saltwater crocodiles lurking next to the vehicle waiting to feast on the unusual bait.

Charlie Williams, 19, and Beau Bryce-Maurice, 37, used blankets and towels to shield themselves and their dog Mindee from the heat. They also recorded video logs on their phones in case they were never found alive.

“Me and Charlie and Mindee are slowly dying,” Bryce-Maurice said laughing in one of the videos, seen by ABC Australia. “No one can find us. Can hear planes and shit now and again. You don’t know how disheartening it is when they f***ing fly off.”

“We were surrounded by crocodiles last night,” Bryce-Maurice noted in another vlog. “[They] tried to attack my dog.”

When the two fishermen failed to return home from their weekend trip on the Dampier Peninsula, relatives alerted local authorities who launched a massive search and rescue effort. By Tuesday afternoon, both men and their dog were rescued. They were fatigued, dehydrated and suffering heat-stroke but happy to be alive, as they had been running out of water when located by rescuers.

“They stayed on top of the vehicle and went through about six tides, which covered the vehicle on a number of occasions,” Sergeant Mark Balfour, from Broome police, told ABC Australia News. “Obviously in the Kimberley here you’ve got to watch the crocs and snakes, and I believe one of the gentlemen said a croc did come close to their vehicle while they were out there, so obviously they were a bit panicky about that.”

Crocodiles are known to live in big tidal rivers, creek mouths and mangrove swamps found on the coast of the Dampier Peninsula. Fishermen taking trips to the areas are advised to be careful and remain vigilant of the large reptiles and snakes.

“Saltwater crocodiles are the largest reptiles in the world (in terms of weight). They can grow to over 6 meters and their jaws can exert a pressure of several tons. They are huge, territorial and aggressive, and they are plentiful across the Kimberley,” the local tourist board says on its website.

The RT crew also came under fire while reporting from Syrian artillery position overlooking the industrial part of Deir ez-Zor, the same spot where a Russian lieutenant-general, Valery Azarov, was fatally wounded by an exploding shell in a sudden mortar attack by IS terrorists.

Terrorists are throwing everything they have in a desperate attempt to hold their positions, using the Euphrates River to replenish their numbers and supplies. On Wednesday, the army targeted ISIS fighters in the Hweijet al-Saker area, the neighborhoods of al-Hweiqa, al-Arddi, Khassarat and Kanamat as well as al-Husseinia village to the northeast of the city, SANA reported.

According to reports, Syrian forces also managed to repel an terrorist attack on the village of Hatlah Tahtani which is vital to control Saqr Island east of Deir ez-Zor city. The island serves as a key position for control of the northern part of the city.

Despite the IS resistance, the army hopes to clear the city within days.

“The city of Deir ez-Zor will be liberated in a week, at the most. And we’ll free some of the suburbs too. The cost will undoubtedly be high… it’s a challenging battleground. From dense urban areas – to lush river banks and even trenches,” Ibrahim noted.

Syrian forces are also successfully pushing IS to the east of Euphrates River, a report by Al-Masdar News said. Syrian forces are using the specially constructed bridge, erected by Russian engineers, to move military hardware and additional troops between the banks of the river.

Securing the rest of Deir ez-Zor province might prove to be more difficult, as Moscow and Damascus fear that while Washington claims it is focused on fighting Islamic State terrorists, on the ground, the US-led forces act in a different manner.

On Sunday, the Russian Ministry of Defense published aerial images which they say show US Army special forces equipment located north of Deir ez-Zor, where pockets of IS terrorists are holding their ground.

The US troops do not face any “resistance from the ISIS militants,” while their positions have no screening patrol, which could indicate that they “feel absolutely safe” in the area, the ministry said.

While Washington has denied the accusations, troops of the Syrian Democratic Force (SDF), a predominantly Kurdish militia backed by the US military, have recently attacked positions of the Syrian Arab Army in the Deir ez-Zor governorate, aiming to assert control over the oil and gas rich region of eastern Syria.

Despite this, Damascus hopes to clear all the terrorists from Syria by the end of the year. At the start of the week, the Russian military said Syrian armed forces have regained control of some 87.4 percent of the country’s territory.

“I say that the main battles in Syria are coming to an end, and, therefore, we are completing the last chapter in the history of the crisis,” Syria’s foreign minister, Walid Muallem told RT Arabic in an exclusive interview. “The Syrian state intends to liberate every inch of our country from terrorists. If we manage to do this before the end of this year, then we will only be happy about it.”

For those who love the idea of being surrounded on every side by Nicolas Cage, I have good news! For everyone else, I still have good news. It’s called The Cage Cage, and it’s a browser-friendly VR simulation of what it would be like to be trapped in a cage and surrounded by Nic Cage films. It’s as awful as it is magical, just like most Nic Cage movies.

Mike Lacher and Chris Baker, two self-proclaimed Nic Cage fans, made the site. Lacher told The Verge the idea was inspired by their love of watching Cage “losing his mind on-screen,” and the sheer humor of the name The Cage Cage.

“In terms of the clips, they show the kind of Cage we love: freaking out and making deeply weird choices,” Lacher says. “They tend to skew toward some of my favorites in the Cage cannon: The Rock, The Wicker Man, Face/Off, and Bad Lieutenant [Port of Call New Orleans]. With a good smattering of others.“

The Cage Cage is easy to try. As soon as you load the site, you’re surrounded by screens playing clips from some of the aforementioned movies. It’s chaos. Audio from every movie blares simultaneously, making it impossible to enjoy a single thing at a time. Instead, you are dunked into Cageland with no possible escape — except closing the browser. You can look away from Cage, but you cannot escape his spit-heavy performances.

Lacher says the project took just a few hours to make using aframe.io and some free concrete textures. “Thusly a great masterpiece was completed,” he says.

It might just be the Stockholm Syndrome talking, but after a few minutes in The Cage Cage, Nicolas Cage’s harmony of screams eventually fades into a hypnotizing, ambient sound. It’s sort of like being in a noisy cafe, if every patron was swearing and screaming about bees.
