In the latest TV ratings, ABC’s Shark Tank (with CBS in rerun mode) reeled in 6 million total viewers and a 1.1 demo rating, surging 28 and 38 percent week-to-week to mark its largest audience in three years and its best rating in 14 months.

Leading out of that, 20/20 (4.6 mil/0.8) was up a tick.

Over on NBC, The Blacklist opened Season 7 with 5.4 million total viewers and a 0.8 demo rating, marking its largest audience since late in Season 5 and its best demo number since its Season 6 premiere. Dateline (4 mil/0.7) ticked up.

Fox’s Friday Night SmackDown (2.1 mil/0.8) actually lost a few eyeballs while ticking up in the demo.

The Live+Same Day numbers reported in our daily-ish ratings column do not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increases in delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms.   • Hurricane Florence, weakened to a Category 2 storm late Wednesday night on its way to the shores of the Carolinas, the National Hurricane Center said.

Hurricane Florence weakened a bit on Wednesday night, prompting forecasters to downgrade it to a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds of up to 110 mph. The storm is headed for the Carolinas, bringing a risk of life-threatening storm surge and rainfall.

Hurricane Florence‘s center is expected to make landfall somewhere near the border between North and South Carolina on Saturday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), though the storm’s intensity will be felt starting Thursday.

(Reuters) – Berkshire Hathaway Inc, the conglomerate run by billionaire Warren Buffett, on Saturday said quarterly operating profit rose 67 percent, as insurance underwriting rebounded and several business units benefited from a growing economy.

Results easily topped analyst forecasts. Underwriting profit at the Geico auto insurance unit more than quintupled, the BNSF railroad benefited from demand to ship consumer products, grain, petroleum and steel, and the Berkshire Hathaway Automotive car dealership financed more vehicle purchases.

Megafon said that one percent of the provider’s entire traffic accounted for Tinder during the opening match at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

The number of foreign men using Tinder has grown as well with more people from Argentina, Israel and Mexico entering the app every day, says an active female Russian user of the service, as cited by Russian business daily Kommersant.

“Nearly 70 percent of male users on Tinder are foreigners at the moment… They are ‘liking’ photos and start conversations,” she said, adding that she might meet with someone.

Accounts in Tinder are tied to their accounts on Facebook. The app can match couples, allowing people to filter other users in accordance with their age range, gender and certain distance from their location.

The 2018 World Cup triggered users’ uptake for Badoo, a Russian alternative to Tinder. The number of daily registrations in Russia surged by 16.7 percent, according to Ariana Dzhanbaz, PR manager of the service.

“We see that people are planning to meet someone despite a highly eventful program in Moscow and tight schedule of matches,” she told the media. “We also noticed boosted activity for such options as ‘Double’ that allows searching for people who look like celebrities or someone they know.”

Football stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Fyodor Smolov, Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos are currently at the top of search requests on Badoo, according to the PR manager.

“After the match between Russia and Egypt I saw several foreigners in a restaurant. They have been browsing photos of girls via a dating service,” Dzhanbaz said. “Russian women in their turn are compiling so-called rankings of foreign fans — Australians, Swedes, Britons.”

According to the poll cited by the Daily Mail earlier this month, some 33 percent of fans want to ‘mingle with local women’ while in Russia for World Cup 2018. Half of that number reportedly hoped to strike up an intimate relationship during the tournament.

The poll, conducted for Sweden’s Expressen newspaper and published Monday, has put the Sweden Democrats in second place, with 21 percent of the vote, the highest score in the party’s history. The liberal Social Democrats, currently in a coalition government with the Green Party, are still in first place but polling at 23.1 percent.

The surge in popularity for Sweden Democrats is attributed to voters leaving Social Democrats for other left-wing parties, but also to the country’s open-door migration policy, which has been accompanied by a crime wave.

Gang-related gun murders –overwhelmingly carried out by men with migrant backgrounds– have surged from around four per-year in the early 1990s to 40 last year. Rapes and anti-Semitic attacks by Muslim immigrants have also surged. Grenade attacks were up 550 percent last year from three years prior.

Just last week, Rakmat Akilov, an asylum seeker from Uzbekistan, was given a life sentence for a truck attack last year. Akilov plowed a truck down a busy shopping street in Stockholm last April, killing five people and injuring almost a dozen others. Among the dead was an 11-year-old girl. He said he acted on behalf of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

“I often use Sweden as a deterring example,” Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Swedish television in January, warning about the dangers of unchecked immigration.

In April, a poll by Demoskop revealed that immigration is the top issue for Swedish voters ahead of the election. Law and order is the third most important issue, while integration comes in fourth. On immigration and integration, voters have the most confidence in the Sweden Democrats party.

The Social Democrats party seems to be be focusing on other issues, however. On Monday, Stockholm’s city council voted to ban ‘sexist’ advertising in public spaces, including ads that “show a stereotypical image of gender roles.” The council is run by the Social Democrats and Moderate Unity Party, described as “liberal conservatives.”

The Sweden Democrats’ rise appears to be tracking the broader swing in support towards parties critical of immigration across the European Union. Italy got a Eurosceptic government at the end of May, which immediately took a tough line on immigration. Over the past weekend, the Italian navy turned back a French ship that rescued 629 migrants in the Mediterranean, criticizing the EU leadership in Brussels for leaving Italy to bear the brunt of Europe’s migrant problem “all by itself.”

Last week, Slovenia’s anti-immigrant SDS-EPP party won the general election there, with 28 percent of the vote. The SDS-EPP has promised to lock down the Slovenian border and ban the wearing of the burqa in public. They have received open support from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a long-time crusader against immigration and the Brussels establishment.

The Sweden Democrats still face an uphill battle to get into government. Sweden’s establishment parties have long refused to enter into coalition with them. Electoral math still favors a loose alliance of centrist parties, currently polling 38.5 percent, while a leftist coalition around the Social Democrats is polling at 36.2 percent.

“The important thing for us is to get as much of our policy through as possible, and then it does not matter who we get it through with,” said party leader Richard Jomshof. “Anything is possible.”

Tesla surged more than 3% in early trading Monday following CEO Elon Musk’s announcement that the carmaker’s version 9 software would include the first steps to fully-autonomous driving.

“With V9, we will begin to enable full self-driving features,” the chief executive said in a Tweet early Sunday, telling users that a lane-merge issue had been fixed and will roll out with other updates in August.

The pound has reached new highs against the euro in almost a year.

Currently trading at 1.154, the surge follows a steady week when it struggled between 1.147 and 1.148.

The exchange rate has been affected by the European Central Bank’s latest policy meeting.

This saw the euro fall as they discussed the Eurozone inflation future.

It is good news as the pound last saw highs of this level in June 2017 and has struggled to regain that strength since.

The ECB’s concerns over the euro’s strength, which in turn affects inflation and makes it harder to stay close to 2 per cent for the Consumer Price Index.

According to CityAM the stronger euro “could be expected to have a more negative impact on inflation”.

The worsening has been put down to the volatile foreign currency markets, in particular, the pound, which has forgone steady rates.

They will continue to buy bonds of £25.9 billion as they have been doing until September.

If inflation does not just then this may be reconsidered.

Currency analyst Laura Parsons from TorFx, commented on the positive news for the pound today.

She told Express.co.uk: “The GBP/EUR exchange rate surged to its best levels in almost a year on Thursday as the euro crumbled following the release of dovish minutes from the European Central Bank’s (ECB) last policy meeting.

“The pound jumped to over €1.150 during the European session.”

She also explained what can be expected for the rest of the week regarding the exchange rate.

Ms Parsons said: “With UK data lacking today we’re not likely to see any significant GBP/EUR movement before the weekend, though the pound might be able to extend gains if Germany’s inflation data is negatively revised.”

As the UK exchange rate remains unsteady, it can be difficult for British travellers to know when the best time to buy foreign currency is.

One way to save money is to always pay in local currency over sterling.

Previously explained by Martin Lewis on his Money Show Live, by paying with money local to the country, the exchange rate is always better.

The large fees charged to convert it are dictated by the country the traveller is in which is often much higher.

Even the worst UK rates are better than the countries, more often than not.

The majority were for chronic and prolonged ailments like back pain, but some say they are ineffective in as many as 90 per cent of cases.

Opioids, mainly fentanyl, oxycodone, tramadol, morphine sulfate, buprenorphine cost £263million a year, NHS Digital figures show, but there is controversy over their “seductive” effect.

The Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan, 46, was feared to have died from a suspected opioid overdose in January and TV presenter Lorraine Kelly, 58, forced herself to come off tramadol after a horse riding accident in 2012.

The drugs have also been linked to the deaths of musicians Prince and Tom Petty. 

Overall, 1.11 billion prescriptions were issued in England last year, a marginal increase on 2016, at a total cost of £9.17billion.

The most prescribed drugs were cholesterolbusting atorvastatin, given out 37 million times, and thyroid medicine levothyroxine sodium, issued 31 million times.

GPs wrote almost 20 million paracetamol prescriptions, costing £61.9million.

Royal College of GPs chairwoman Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard said more prescriptions were inevitable as patients lived longer.
