The tough Aussie all-rounder dropped his shoulder when the fan got a little too close at the non-striker’s end, sending him to the ground and making an arrest that much easier for the pursuing police.

What the unfortunate nudie probably didn’t realise at the time was that Symonds – now a commentator for Fox Sports during the current T20 series betyween Australia and India – had prior form.

Footage has been unearthed from 11 years earlier of Symonds taking down a pitch invader (he had cargo shorts on so he’s not technically a streaker) during a domestic one-day game between Queensland and Western Australia at the WACA in 1997.

At the same venue that Terry Alderman fell and hurt himself badly trying to tackle a pitch invader in 1981, Symonds pushed any thought of personal injury aside to bring the interrupting fan down with an impressive tackle.

After a brief tussle the offending fan got up and evaded Symonds’ second attempt and escaped into the crowd, something 21 years later Symonds lamented.

It’s no wonder Broncos coach Wayne Bennett was interested when Symonds sounded out the super coach of the possibility of switching to rugby league.

Dutch speed skater Kjeld Nuis had just held his nerve to claim gold in the men’s Olympic 1,000 metres ahead of Havard Lorentzen.

But things took a bizarre turn at the Gangneung Oval when a fan jumped the barriers to run on to the ice.

Video footage shows him taking off his clothes before running around in a pink tutu with only a monkey protecting his modesty.

The long-haired invade had ‘PEACE + LOVE’ written on to his body before he was whisked away.

It was the one bizarre moment of another intriguing day in Pyeongchang – although it was a bad one for Team GB.

Great Britain’s women can now only win curling bronze at best after a semi-final defeat to Sweden, who will meet hosts South Korea in Sunday’s final.

Eve Muirhead, Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams and Lauren Gray suffered a 10-5 loss to Anna Hasselborg’s Sweden at Gangneung Curling Centre.

A short final shot from skip Eve Muirhead in the seventh end gifted the Swedes a three against the hammer and effectively ended the semi-final contest.

Muirhead had gone into the game full of confidence after a superb win over pre-tournament favourites Canada in their final round-robin match.

But the British rink were always up against it as Sweden capitalised on some ponderous play to establish an early lead.

Muirhead briefly drew her team level after the fifth but her dismal seventh meant that once again she will have to be content with bronze at best. They finished with bronze four years ago in Sochi.

Japan will be Saturday’s opponents in the bronze bout, after South Korea edged to an 8-7 win in a tight contest in the other semi-final.

The hosts held the upper hand throughout, but Japan scored two in the ninth end and a South Korea mistake in the 10th gave them another to force an extra end. But South Korea held their nerve to prevail.

Switzerland took bronze in the men’s event with a 7-5 win over Canada, who finish without a medal for the first time from the men’s and women’s team competitions.

Canada did win the mixed doubles event which is new to the Games.

The men’s final between Sweden and the United States takes place on Saturday.

Fifteen-year-old Alina Zagitova won the Olympic ladies’ figure skating title at the Gangneung Ice Arena on Friday, earning the first gold of the Games for the Olympic Athletes of Russia.

Zagitova held on to beat compatriot Evgenia Medvedeva by just over a single point after a pair of mesmerising free skates which earned identical scores of 156.65. Kaetlyn Osmond of Canada was a distant third.

Zagitova had gone into the free skate narrowly ahead of 18-year-old Medvedeva after a world record score in her short programme routine on Wednesday.

Kelsey Serwa won the women’s ski cross ahead of fellow Canadian Brittany Phelan at Phoenix Snow Park.

Fanny Smith of Switzerland took bronze, while Briton Emily Sarsfield was fourth in her quarter-final heat after coming second in her first round heat.

It will always be hard to top Gwyneth Paltrow’s tears or Sally Fields’ sobs, let alone Adrian Brody almost bending Halle Berry in half for a passionate kiss.

If winners can resist the inevitable temptation to drag politics into teh event, perhaps they should consider some press-ups liek Pallance. Or how about a full-frontal fresh approach to saying their thanks?

Just don’t try any fisticuffs like Sylvester Stallone and Muhammed Ali above…

Berry was the first black woman to win Best Actress at 74th Academy Awards. As the Oscars So white row rages, she has lamented again this year that her historic win did not herald the changes she had foreseen in the representation of minorities.

On a far lighter note, she showed her true class by stunning the audience and turning up to collect her 2004 Razzie for Worst Actress in the much-derided Catwoman.

In a hilarious, rambling speech she brought the house down thanking Warner Bros “For putting me in such a God-awful, piece of sh** movie.”

6. Jack Palance – Best Supporting Actor for City Slickers (1992)

Those one-armed push-ups have since become legendary but the rest of teh speech kicks some ass, too.

“Billy Crystal? I crap bigger ‘n him,” he joked about his co-star before ending with: “1949, my first film, the producer came to me and he said ‘Jack, you’re gonna win the Academy Award.’ 42 years later he was right. How the sonofab**** knew?”

7. Gwyneth Paltrow – Best Actress for Shakespeare in Love (1999)

Mainly famous for topping Sally Field’s notorious 1985 waterworks. Watch it again, if you have the strength.

8. Adrian Brody – Best Actor for The Pianist (2003)

Brody was a hugely popular winner, but it’s not his words that we remember from his acceptance speech.

The cheeky star acccepted his award from the previous year’s Best Actress winner, Halle Berry and what happened next became Oscars history.

Brody grabbed the beatiful actress, dipped her and planted a lingering kiss on the shocked star’s face as the crowd cheered.

9. Sally Field – Best Actress for Places in the Heart (1985)

Yikes, the ultimate cautionary case of too much hysteria.

Field collected her second Best Actress award and tried to make a clever riff on a famous line from her previous winning role five years earlier.

The oft-misquoted “You like me, you really like me” was in fact “I can’t deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me,” which was a variation on a line from Norma Rae.

All people remember, however, is the painful over-emoting and apparent neediness. Oops.
