NBC on Wednesday night hosted the ninth Democratic debate, held in Las Vegas. Who had the best showing just days ahead of the Nevada Democratic caucuses and with the Presidential Primary Election just around the bend on March 3?
The two-hour debate featured six candidates, including first-time qualifier Mike Bloomberg. He was joined on stage by former vice president Joe Biden; South Bend, Ind., mayor Pete Buttigieg; Minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar; Vermont senator Bernie Sanders; and Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren.
Those who did not meet the qualifications for Wednesday’s matchup included hedge-fund billionaire Tom Steyer (who qualified for the last five debates) and U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (out of the mix since the Nov. 20 debate). Meanwhile, three other candidates have dropped out of the race since the previous debate on Feb. 7: Colorado senator Michael Bennett, former Michigan governor Deval Patrick, and tech exec Andrew Yang.
Based on what you saw and heard Wednesday night, who is the most electable and would give President Trump the toughest fight in November? Vote below.
The next Democratic presidential debate will be held Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the Charleston Gaillard Center in Charleston, S.C., and air on CBS and BET.

Live from Loyola Marymount University, a comparatively sleek pack of seven squared off in the sixth Democratic presidential debate on Thursday night. Who emerged as the current frontrunner to go up against embattled President Trump?
Hosted by PBS NewsHour and Politico, the debate was moderated by PBS NewsHour anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff, Politico chief political correspondent Tim Alberta, PBS NewsHour senior national correspondent Amna Nawaz and White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor. The candidates that qualified were former tech exec Andrew Yang; Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Ind.; Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts senator; Joe Biden, former vice president; Bernie Sanders, Vermont senator; Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota senator; and hedge-fund billionaire Tom Steyer.
Coming out of the first, two-night debate in June, Harris led our poll that asked, “Who has the best chance to defeat President Donald Trump in 2020?” (followed by Warren, Biden, Buttigieg and Sanders). In the second round of debates in July, Yang came out on top, followed by Warren, Biden, Sanders and Gabbard. Yang also led our September poll following Debate No. 3 (followed by Warren, Sanders, Biden and Buttigieg), our October poll for Debate No. 4 (followed by Warren, Buttigieg, Sanders and Biden), and our November poll for Debate No. 5 (followed by Buttigieg, Sanders, Warren and Biden). It must be noted that Yang is typically a slow starter in TVLine’s debate polls, and yet unerringly enjoys an overnight surge.
Who from Thursday’s seven debaters delivered the best ideas, and delivered them well? In the poll below, choose up to two candidates that have the best chance to defeat Trump in 2020, and then hit the comments to discuss your choices.
The seventh Democratic debate is scheduled for Jan. 14, 2020, to be held at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and hosted by CNN and the Des Moines Register.

It followed Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.
Carragher, who made over 500 appearances at the heart of Liverpool’s defense but never actually won the Premier League, was driving from United’s Old Trafford stadium where he had been providing expert commentary, when he was goaded by the fan.

The fan’s 14-year-old daughter, sitting in the passenger seat of the car, can be heard begging her father to stop the taunts, which he filmed on his mobile phone.
Ignoring his daughter’s pleas, the fan then shouts out the 2-1 scoreline, which prompts Carragher to wind down the window of his car before expectorating. The resulting spit struck the young girl.
In the footage, the girl can be heard saying: “He spat on me.” The dad asks her: “Where did it hit you?” She replies: “On my face.”

I’ve known Jamie Carragher for 30 years and I can tell you now that incident is completely out of character for him, fair play for phoning the guy and his daughter up and apologising,he’s only human at the end of day and the frustration has got the better of him.
Carragher, 40, was quick to apologize to the girl, describing his behavior an “inexcusable” in a tweet that quoted an article condemning his action as “shocking.”
“Totally out of order & I’ve apologised personally to all the family this evening. I was goaded 3/4 times along the motorway while being filmed & lost my rag. No excuse apologies,” Carragher tweeted.

According to the Mirror, Carragher phoned the girl and her father on Sunday night and said: “I just want to apologise and I hope you are OK.” The youngster apparently told him: “OK, thanks for apologising.”
The girl’s 38-year-old mum expressed her anger at Carragher, who has a daughter of his own, for spitting on the girl, calling it “the lowest of the low.”
“I was extremely angry and disappointed that he could even bring himself to do something like that. Looking at her, you know she is a child,” she said.
“What did she do wrong? She did not do anything wrong. Spitting at someone is the lowest of the low. It is disgusting. In all the years I’ve watched football, isn’t it all about banter?”
Carragher, who won two FA Cups and the 2005 Champions League with Liverpool, was stood down from reporting duties on Sky Sports’ coverage of Monday evening’s game between Stoke and Manchester City as a result of the incident.

Among the throng of self-driving startups making pronouncements at CES, high ambitions were in plentiful supply, but specific business plans were harder to find. Among those revealing previously secret intentions in Las Vegas, one company worth keeping an eye on is Steer, the first company to obtain an autonomous-vehicle testing permit in Maryland. While others focus on getting passengers from point A to point B, Steer is more concerned about what to do with cars after travelers arrive at their destinations.
–
The company’s engineers have created what they bill as the first fully autonomous parking technology. Far beyond some of the self-parking features on the market, Steer’s technology allows the cars to drop off their passengers and then navigate themselves to nearby lots or garages and park themselves. Imagine being dropped off curbside at a sporting event or shopping mall. When you’re ready to head home, simply summon the car via an app on your mobile device.
–
Many drivers struggle with their parallel-parking skills, while others resent spending valuable minutes searching for an empty parking spot. Steer’s idea is to use Level 4 automation to eliminate the cumbersome aspects of parking.

“Sometimes in urban settings it can take 15 or 20 minutes to park. This takes that burden off you to figure all that out.”

“The reality in traveling today is that, once you get wherever you are going, your experience doesn’t start, because you still need to park your car,” said Anuja Sonalker, chief executive officer of Steer. “Sometimes in urban settings it can take 15 or 20 minutes to park. Or [you] don’t get to the train station and miss the train because [you’re] parking for another 14 minutes.” Steer’s technology “takes that burden off you to figure all that out. You just have to think, ‘The moment I get in front of Macy’s, my shopping experience begins.’ It’s a continuous, seamless experience for you.”
–
Steer is collaborating with Visteon, a global supplier of automotive electronics, to place its self-driving system on the company’s new autonomous-driving platform, which was also unveiled at CES. The partnership is not exclusive.
–
–
The linchpin to making Steer work may not lie in the self-driving system itself but in the company’s cloud-based repository of available parking options. Rather than undertake the laborious process of creating its own parking network, Steer is counting on restaurateurs, shop owners, and station managers to do it on their own so they can offer customers the convenience of autonomous parking. Using an assistant downloaded onto a smartphone, business proprietors can drive routes to nearby parking areas, and artificial intelligence baked into the technology will ensure it gets what it needs to run the route.
–
Sonalker said the Steer system is “proudly” lidar free; it operates using radar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors. But Steer’s decision to forgo lidar is more a calculated business move than a choice based on philosophical opposition. Sonalker said she doesn’t want the OEMs her company works with to be required to commit to lidar on their vehicles—and she wants to work with them now, while they’re still sketching broader plans for their autonomous futures.

“We are solving a problem that has a long -shelf life, but we want to get to the market -sooner rather than later.”– Sonalker

–
“Ultimately that cost gets passed along to consumers, and they can only bear so much, so our approach is very cost-centric,” she said. “We’re adding no incremental costs for automakers or consumers. We are solving a problem that has a long shelf life, but we want to get to the market sooner rather than later, because the longer you wait in this autonomous field, [the bigger the chance that] decisions will get made where things get locked into plans.”
And with parking a problem that pesters ride-hailing services and car owners alike, autonomous-parking technology could help bridge the skepticism a majority of Americans say they have for automated vehicles.
–
“I know there are people who love to drive and don’t like the idea of autonomous technology, but I have yet to meet a person who loves to drive who says to me, ‘You know, I love parking the car,’ ” said Sonalker, whose previous automotive startup, TowerSec, was sold to Harman in 2016.
–
“People love to take their car for a spin, but I have yet to see someone who says, ‘I love parallel parking.’ That’s something to take away from a human.”

US President Donald Trump has called for the NFL to suspend Marshawn Lynch. The Oakland Raiders player declined to stand for the US national anthem but did stand for the Mexican anthem during a game played in Mexico City on Sunday.
“Marshawn Lynch of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem. Great disrespect!” Trump tweeted on Monday morning. “Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down.”
Marshawn Lynch of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem. Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down.
The game was played in Estadio Azteca in Mexico City as part of an effort to promote the NFL to an international audience. The Raiders lost the game to the New England Patriots, 33-8.
Lynch was standing for the first few bars of the US national anthem but then sat down. He stood once again during the Mexican anthem. He was one of the few players to kneel at the start of the NFL season. More than 200 had joined in the protest by the third week, however.
Trump’s tweet was met with a barrage of criticism that he was “attacking black folks.”
Trump is proof that the most enduring and effective politics in America is still attacking black folks
If Trump tweets about Marshawn Lynch, and you find yourself discussing Marshawn more than Trump’s dangerous racist Black athlete game he keeps playing, then Trump won again. He played you.
If athletes not standing 4 anthem disturbs u more than racism & police brutality, ur reason y Black Americans r still protesting 4 basic civil rights in 2017
On Sunday, Trump said he should have left one of the three UCLA basketball players in jail, after they were arrested for shoplifting in China. His comments were aimed at Lavar Ball, father of one of the players, who sparred with Trump after he publicly wondered if the players would thank them for securing their release. All three players thanked Trump and the Chinese government in a press conference following their return to the US.
The president has repeatedly weighed in on the “take a knee” protests, which were started in 2016 by former NFL player Colin Kaepernick as a protest against police brutality. In September, Trump told an Alabama crowd that any player who doesn’t stand for the anthem should not be allowed to play.
“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out!” he tweeted. “He’s fired. He’s fired!’”
Trump also called on fans to boycott NFL games and tweeted that team owners should “fire or suspend” players who partake in the protests.
If NFL fans refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our Flag & Country, you will see change take place fast. Fire or suspend!
Dallas Cowboys owner and Trump donor Jerry Jones said in October that players who did not stand for the national anthem would not be allowed to play. “If we are disrespecting the flag, then we won’t play. Period.”
NFL owners met to discuss the protests after Trump’s call to boycott the league. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said that the league and its 32 teams “believe everyone should stand for the national anthem.” The NFL declined to change the official policy to require players to stand, however.
Vice President Mike Pence walked out of an Indianapolis Colts game after several San Francisco 49ers players knelt during the national anthem.
Lynch, who came out of retirement earlier this season, is known for comedic antics and outspoken political views. He wore a t-shirt that said “Everybody vs. Trump” prior to a game against the Denver Broncos on October 1. As a player at the University of California Berkeley in 2006, Lynch took a service cart for a ride around the field amid players and personnel. He relived the moment a decade later, taking his mom on a cart ride.

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva gained notoriety on Sunday when he stood by himself for the national anthem while the rest of the team waited in the locker room tunnel.
Villanueva, an Army veteran who served three terms in Afghanistan, became something of the face of people opposed to anthem protests and was the best-selling NFL jersey by Monday.
However, the incident seemed to confuse some teammates, who believed the team had all agreed to stand in the tunnel together. Head coach Mike Tomlin had said he wanted the team to have 100% participation with whatever they chose to do.
On Monday, Villanueva apologized for the incident and explained what happened.
Villanueva told reporters that he had asked quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to be at the front of the group in the tunnel so he could see the flag, an important symbol for him, even if he was okay with the Steelers’ decision to stand in the tunnel. However, Villanueva apparently walked too far out of the tunnel. And in the confusion of the Chicago Bears’ stadium, he found himself outside of the tunnel when the anthem began playing, so he decided to stand and wait.
“Unfortunately, I threw my teammates under the bus, unintentionally,” Villanueva said. “Every single time I see that picture of me standing by myself I feel embarrassed to a degree because unintentionally I left my teammates behind.”
Villanueva continued, saying: “I made coach Tomlin look bad, and that is my fault and my fault only. I made my teammates look bad, and that is my fault.”
Villanueva said he would support any teammates who decided to sit or kneel during the national anthem and that other players who have knelt during the anthem have thanked him for his service. Villanueva said the team “butchered” their attempt at, as he said, staying away from the situation.
Villanueva still believes in standing for the anthem, but also said he understands that players are kneeling due to social injustices, not out of criticism toward the military or disrespect for the flag. He also said he did not want to comment on US President Donald Trump’s criticisms of the NFL and those who protest the anthem.
On Monday, Roethlisberger put out a statement saying that he wished the Steelers handled the anthem differently and wants the team to show solidarity going forward. He said “there was no division” within the team.

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan stood arm-in-arm with his team today during the national anthem before kickoff of their game against the Baltimore Ravens in London.
The gesture comes in the wake of Trump’s comments and tweets on protests during the anthem, in which he called on NFL owners to fire players who decide to kneel during the anthem. On Friday while speaking at a rally in Alabama, Trump asked the crowd “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say ‘Get that son of a b—- off the field right now, out, he’s fired!'”
Since Trump’s comments on Friday teams, players, and commissioner Roger Goodell have all responded with statements defending players’ right to kneel. Goodell said the president’s comments showed an “unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL.”
Khan took these statements a step further and stood with his players on the field.

After the anthem played, Khan said it was an honor to stand with his team. You can read his full comments below, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
It was a privilege to stand on the sidelines with the Jacksonville Jaguars today for the playing of the U.S. national anthem at Wembley Stadium. I met with our team captains prior to the game to express my support for them, all NFL players and the league following the divisive and contentious remarks made by President Trump, and was honored to be arm in arm with them, their teammates and our coaches during our anthem.
Our team and the National Football League reflects our nation, with diversity coming in many forms – race, faith, our views and our goals. We have a lot of work to do, and we can do it, but the comments by the President make it harder. That’s why it was important for us, and personally for me, to show the world that even if we may differ at times, we can and should be united in the effort to become better as people and a nation.
New England Patriots ower Robert Kraft, another significant Trump donor, also spoke out against the president’s comments, saying that he was “deeply disappointed by the tone of the comments made by the president on Friday.”

The ceremony was held at St Paul’s, the only cathedral big enough to accommodate the couple’s 3,500 guests, including most of the crowned heads of Europe, the French president François Mitterand and US first lady Nancy Reagan.
Tens of thousands of loyal subjects lined the streets as members of the Household Cavalry, in their Ruritanian get-up of scarlet tunics and gleaming breastplates, with plumed helmets bobbing, trotted alongside the Glass Coach carrying Diana to the church.
And at St Paul’s the blushing bride was escorted up the aisle by her father Earl Spencer, her 25ft train of ivory taffeta and antique lace in her wake.

In short, it was the sort of ceremony befitting the celebration of a great love between a latter-day Romeo and Juliet. But, as we now know, nothing could have been further from the truth.
As the princess revealed from beyond the grave in 25-year-old fi lm footage shown for the first time in the UK in Sunday’s night’s Channel 4 documentary Diana In Her Own Words, she and Charles had met only 13 times before they plighted their troth on July 29, 1981.
The truth is this was a marriage of convenience for a future king in need of an heir and a spare because Camilla Parker Bowles, the love of his life, had got spliced to another man.
The warning signs had been there from the very start. When the newly engaged couple were famously asked if they were in love, Diana the 19-year-old ingenue responded at once with, “Of course!” But Charles, perhaps conscious of a certain someone watching his every move for signs of emotional betrayal, said: “Whatever ‘in love’ means.”

Monarchists attributed his equivocation to royal reserve but others saw it for was it was: semantic leakage of his true feelings. Diana certainly did.
As she said in the Channel 4 recordings filmed by her voice coach Peter Settelen: “That threw me completely. I thought that a strange question and answer. God, absolutely traumatised me.”
Once married life got under way, sex was at a premium. Diana told Settelen that things happened between the sheets “sort of once every three weeks”.
She added: “It was odd, very odd. But it was there, then it fizzled out about seven years ago, six years ago, well, seven because Harry was eight.
“Instinct told me it was just so odd. I don’t know, there was just no requirement for it from his case.”

Meanwhile, the spectre of her love rival was ever-present. Even on her big day at St Paul’s Diana’s eyes had raked over the congregation as she walked up the aisle in search of her romantic nemesis before settling on a blonde in a “pale grey, veiled pillbox hat”: Camilla.
As she was to tell Martin Bashir in her bombshell Panorama interview some years later: “There were three of us in this marriage so it was a bit crowded.” When she confronted Charles, he allegedly replied: “I refuse to be the only Prince of Wales who never had a mistress.”
The Channel 4 broadcast coincided with fresh revelations from an unnamed BBC cameraman who Diana hired in March 1997, five months before her death. In seven sessions they recorded 12 hours of her impassioned reminiscences as she off-loaded her anger at the Royal Family and Charles in particular.
Naturally Camilla got it with both barrels. According to the cameraman, Charles would call Camilla for “phone sex” while sitting on the toilet.
“She caught Charles and Camilla in flagrante after listening in to his phone calls,” he says. In one Charles was sitting on the toilet seat when she caught him.” He says she claimed, “Camilla was the raunchier of the two.”

At her wits’ end, Diana decided to consult “the top lady”, her mother-in-law the Queen: “I asked her, ‘What do I do? I’m coming to you, what do I do?’” to which the Queen replied: “I don’t know what you should do, Charles is hopeless.”
Not that Diana was living the life of a nun while her husband played away. In the tapes she admits to falling in love at the age of 24 with “someone who was part of all this” but once her infatuation was discovered “he was chucked out and then he was killed”. This is believed to be a reference to her personal protection officer Barry Mannakee who died in a motorcycle accident three weeks after being sacked.
Her relationship with Mannakee was never consummated, but a few years after the birth of Harry, Diana had embarked on a full affair with James Hewitt, a Household Cavalry captain. “I was a rebel,” she told Settelen.
“I always did the dares. I always did the opposite of everyone else. I wasn’t academically interested at all, I just wanted to be with people and have fun and look after people. But the rebel thing was always there. It was underlying. It didn’t come out. Or they didn’t see it.”

SYDNEY Roosters veteran Shaun Kenny-Dowall has been stood down indefinitely by the NRL club after last week being charged with drug possession.
Kenny-Dowall was allegedly caught with cocaine at a Sydney nightclub, with the utility back due to appear in court on June 21.
In a statement on Monday night, the Sydney Roosters said Kenny-Dowall would be stood down indefinitely “pending the conclusion of the club’s internal investigation and consultation with the club’s board of directors”.
