With Mike Richards‘ two-week stint as Jeopardy! guest host concluding on Friday, we’re offering up fans of the iconic game show something of a Sophie’s Choice: Who would you rather see behind the lectern full-time, Richards or inaugural interim emcee Ken Jennings? Since his run began on Feb. 22, Richards — who doubles as Jeopardy!‘s exec producer — won over social media with his movie-star looks, warm demeanor and magnetic charm. The positive reviews are all the more impressive when you consider that the onetime Pyramid host was an 11th hour pick. “I didn’t know I was going to be doing it until three days before, and so I had not prepared myself to host in the way that I know other guest hosts are,” Richards recently told USA Today. “So there was just a lot to unpack. “Plus, I also only owned one suit, so there was a little bit of scrambling there,” he added. “It was very fun; humbling doesn’t begin to describe the feeling. It hit me like a ton of bricks when Johnny Gilbert announced my name. That’s of course the last thing you hear when you start to walk out. … and it was overwhelming in the moment.” Richards picked up the guest-hosting baton from GOAT contestant Jennings, whose similarly well-received six-week tenure ended in mid-February. Jennings, in turn, on Monday will hand the gig off to Katie Couric. The former Today co-host will then be followed by NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers, 60 Minutes‘ Bill Whitaker and Big Bang Theory vet Mayim Bialik. Additional guest hosts will include CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta., as well as Dr. Mehmet Oz and Today‘s Savannah Guthrie. Meanwhile, a decision on who will succeed the late Alex Trebek permanently may not be made until the launch of Season 38 next September. As Richards told USA Today, “Let’s make sure we get someone we are going to feel even better about in a decade than we do this year.” Did Richards prove himself worthy of the full-time job? Or more pointedly, if it comes down to Richards vs. Jennings, who would you choose? Vote below! Julianna Margulies‘ ill-fated Good Fight guest stint was a hot topic at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour, with CBS All Access’ top exec weighing in on the headline-making kerfuffle for the first time. Quick refresher: The Good Wife star was thisclose to reprising her Emmy-winning role of Alicia Florrick on spinoff series The Good Fight, but the deal fell apart because “CBS refused to pay my [ask],” Margulies recently told our sister site Deadline, noting that CBS wanted to pay her a guest-star rate vs. her regular fee. “I’m not a guest star; I started the whole thing with The Good Wife. I wanted to be paid my worth and stand up for equal pay. “If Jon Hamm came back for a Mad Men spinoff or Kiefer Sutherland wanted to do a 24 spinoff,” Margulies added, “they would be paid.” On Thursday, Julie McNamara, CBS All Access’ EVP Original Content, said of the dispute: “We love Julianna and there’s a long, great history [with her]. We did want to bring her to guest on The Good Fight. There was a different [financial] expectation of what that meant, and it didn’t work out… It was just a deal that didn’t work out. I won’t go into the financial specifics of that.” (McNamara also teased that CBS All Access has “another project in development” with Margulies, but the exec declined to offer any specifics.) At TCA last February, Good Wife and Good Fight co-creator Robert King revealed under what circumstances Alicia might have appeared. “We thought maybe about making a big episode where she would be at the resistance, [and] Diane and her face each other,” King told reporters. “But that would be the end of the story. It felt like an asterisk.” The Good Fight‘s third season doubled down on all things Trump and, for her part, Christine Baranski admits the art-imitates-politics approach has become something of a double-edged sword. “On the one hand it is deeply cathartic because I can bring what I feel and what I think into my work,” the lifelong Democrat confesses to TVLine in the latest installment of our Dream Emmy Podcast series. “But it can also be draining because I can never [escape it]…But [series creators Robert and Michelle King] are writing these characters living in this moment in time, which I think is great. “I’m going on vacation soon and I plan to turn off the news for 12 days,” Baranski adds with a laugh. “I think we all have to have a rest. It’s making us nuts. I don’t care what your politics are. It’s all coming at us so hard and fast.” Also in the Q&A, Baranski reflects on her 10-year anniversary of playing Diane, dissects that infamous Season 3 head-banging scene, and weighs in on Julianna Margulies’ ill-fated Season 3 guest stint. Ally Sheedy was in the bathroom where it happened.
The upcoming second season of SMILF will flash back to the day Bridgette (Frankie Shaw) gave birth to son Larry and, as you can see from this exclusive first look, Sheedy — who guests as her midwife — had a ringside seat to the action.
Season 2, which premieres Sunday, Jan. 20, at 10:30/9:30c, also features a number of the series’ trademark fantasy sequences, one of which casts Bridgette as a blinged-out queen (see below). As previously reported, the Showtime comedy’s sophomore run finds Shaw’s titular single mom attempting to “move forward, exorcise old ghosts and atone for past misdeeds.” (WATCH TRAILER)
In addition to Sheedy, Season 2 guest stars include Working Girl vet Melanie Griffith and porn star-slash-alleged presidential mistress Stormy Daniels, the latter of whom will appear as a “wise street vendor.”

Recently released Tommy Robinson claims he was ‘mentally tortured’ in prison complaining of no TV, inability to eat prison food and being moved to facility with larger Muslims population.
Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, the former leader of the English Defence League (EDL) got a 13 month sentence in May for contempt of court. On Wednesday, the defense team for the darling of the British and international right successfully appealed the sentence and he was released on bail pending a retrial.
In several prison complaint forms posted to his Facebook page on Friday, Robinson’s claims of mistreatment included being moved from a prison where only 7% of inmates were Muslim to one where a third of them are; being locked up for 23 hours a day “for his own protection,”; and accused prison authorities of “punishing” him with no TV access in his cell.
“I’d like to be given a TV as I feel I am being mentally tortured,” he wrote.
Another complaint form saw him request “extra spends” in order to buy more food as paranoia over what people preparing his meals might do to it had resulted in him losing weight as he was only able to eat canned food.
“This would make up a bit for being held in isolation,” Robinson said.
The prison service has rejected the claims, with a spokesperson saying “Mr Yaxley-Lennon was treated with the same fairness we aim to show all prisoners.”
It added that claims of being held in solitary confinement were “totally false.”
Since his release, Robinson has refused to talk to mainstream media in the UK, accusing a BBC reporter asking for comment upon his release that “all you do is lie.”
Speaking to Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Friday, Robinson documented his mistreatment further, saying that he had to keep his windows and doors closed during the recent spell of hot weather for fear of having other prisoners spit or throw excrement into his cell.
“I was supposed to be in Her Majesty’s Prison Service, not Guantanamo Bay,” he said.

His Guantanamo Bay claim has received derision online, with British ex-Guantanamo prisoner and activist Moazzam Begg accusing Robinson of not being able to “handle a few weeks inside.”
During his Fox interview, Robinson also disclosed a never-mentioned-before Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) obtained from a previous five-month spell in solitary confinement when he was in prison in 2012.
In October 2012 Robinson was arrested for illegally entering the United States under a false passport while concealing a previous drug conviction.
After spending Christmas in jail, he was convicted and sentenced to 10 months in January 2013.
Other convictions include assault, participation in mass brawls and mortgage fraud.
Since his most recent incarceration, he has seen a swelling in support both within the UK and from the US and European political right. He has also received more than £20,000 in Bitcoin donations since he was jailed in May.

The Good Fight wanted a piece of The Good Wife. Julianna Margulies confirms to TVLine that she was invited to bring Alicia Florrick over to the CBS All Access spinoff during the series’ inaugural season, but she wasn’t quite ready to go there.
“I really didn’t want to do it when they asked me in the first season,” she recalls, “because I didn’t think that was fair [to the series or its cast, led by Christine Baranski, Cush Jumbo and Rose Leslie]. I felt like, ‘Get on your own two feet. Do your thing.’ Because if Alicia had come in, in the first season, it would have been [all] about Alicia and The Good Wife. And now it’s their show.”
Last year, Kela Ivonye relocated from his home base in Louisville, Kentucky to Silicon Valley for an extended period of time to participate in not just one, but two startup accelerator programs. But even though the two-time founder appreciated the funding, mentorship, and partnerships he gained from these experiences, he was committed to returning to Louisville to build his startup, MailHaven.
“We are really focused because we’re here [in Louisville],” says Ivonye, who returned home after completing the prestigious 500 Startups program at the end of 2017. “We find ourselves not getting jaded — being focused and solving real problems that are affecting people who live in this area, which is a demographic that is representative of a majority of America. Being in Louisville and working on this problem allows us to be well-grounded.”
Ivonye is not a Louisville native — he emigrated from Nigeria to study spatial analysis and urban planning in the undergraduate program at the University of Louisville. He says he had to be an entrepreneur from the start, figuring out ways to put himself through school.
“I came with little or no money. I had been buying and selling items to help put myself through college and was sitting class even though I hadn’t registered,” says Ivonye. “Luckily, instead of just kicking me out when they found out about that, they gave me a scholarship.”

However, when he identified a real-world application for the spatial analysis theories he was studying, he dropped out of graduate school to start his first company: a food delivery service that used an algorithmic-based formula to get food to customers significantly faster than any other service.
“There was probably one food delivery company in Louisville, and it would take them almost two hours to make a delivery. I saw an opening where I could use my knowledge to cut down on delivery times, thereby creating a better offering for consumers,” says Ivonye. His algorithm divided the city into districts to reduce drivers’ mileage and ensure deliveries were made within 30 minutes; an accompanying app allowed customers to track their food being delivered, similar to Uber Eats.
Though the company was turning a profit, it wasn’t set up to scale, as Ivonye had originally hoped. However, in observing customers’ behavior, he had identified another pain point in delivery — that of getting packages into the hands of a busy customer.
“Even with all our efforts, people were not coming out until the drivers were there, which would take about two to three minutes; that was a drag on our efficiency,” says Ivonye. “If there was a way where you keep the food in a receptacle for packages, you could just drop it off and then the homeowner can come out of their house and pick it up whenever.”

After missing a delivery that had to be sent back to his family in Nigeria, a costly mistake that took a few hundred dollars to rectify, Ivonye determined to solve the drop-off problem. His solution? A connected porch receptacle that allows couriers and customers to work together to ensure packages are delivered safely, securely, and with maximum convenience for both parties.
We’ve written about the porch pirate issue before — there are several companies producing IoT-connected storage boxes that allow a courier like UPS or FedEx to scan the package bar code, place it in the unit, lock it back up, and alert customers when a delivery has been made.
MailHaven’s solution comes in the form of a smart mailbox. The company’s app, which doesn’t require the hardware and is free to use, allows users to manage online purchases and track their shipments. It was released on iOS last year and has over a thousand users; Ivonye says an Android version is in the works.
but the hardware is where the startup really sees potential for innovation, and profit. In a report titled “The Internet of Postal Things,” the U.S. Postal Service says: “The connected mailbox could generate revenue from renting the mailbox to households, or selling the mailbox and charging a monthly service fee. If 5 percent of the 117 U.S. million households rented such a box for $ 3 a month, the product would generate $ 210 million a year in revenue.”
The MailHaven unit will eventually retail for $ 399, with a $ 9 monthly fee, though right now it is still being tested in a small pilot. The first such pilot took place last year with six households in California, during MailHaven’s stint at the Highway1 accelerator. The next trial will include 30 households in Louisville.
In addition to hardware expertise, Highway1 gave the startup some initial funding, later augmented by an additional $ 150,000 from the 500 Startups accelerator program. Ivonye says that the startup has raised its seed funding from these programs, angel investors, and family and friends.
They also found an investor in a large manufacturing company called Fabricated Metals that’s based in Louisville. Ivonye says that relationship was struck when he shared his pitch with the company president and found a kindred spirit.
“He was like, ‘Hey, my wife hates going to the post office whenever we have this problem’,” Invonye says. “So they were one of the first people to invest in us.” Fabricated Metals now also does all the manufacturing for MailHaven, meaning the product is an end-to-end Kentucky-based creation.
Ivonye has also decided to take part in a brand new funding initiative. Last week, MailHaven and 29 other startups from the summer 2017 class of 500 Startups released an asset-backed blockchain token, called 22X, that allows purchasers to invest in all 30 startups for equity. If the group hits their top-level goal, each will see about $ 1 million in funding.
Exploring innovative funding routes like the token sale and Fabricated Metals partnership has helped Ivonye navigate the often-challenging startup funding scene in his region.
“It’s difficult to raise in this part of the country, and it’s especially difficult if you are a hardware startup or founded by a non-traditional founder,” says Ivonye. “But what’s been awesome for us is we’ve been able to take those challenges and find some amazing opportunities. We are in a part of the country where people are very amenable to each other and people want to help each other.”

Casting Chris Brown as a controversial musician in black-ish‘s third season seemed like a natural fit, series creator Kenya Barris tells TVLine, but some of the reactions the episode garnered “saddened” the executive producer.
Brown played Rich Youngsta in a March installment that found Dre collaborating with the fictional rapper on an ad campaign that played heavily on black stereotypes. After some pushback from Ruby and Bow, and after watching Jack engage in some of Rich Youngsta’s less-than-ideal behavior, Dre revamped the ad.
“We wanted someone to play a troubled music star, which he was,” Barris says, adding that the show was unaware that Brown’s ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran (Claws) filed a restraining order against the singer in February, claiming that he had pushed her down stairs and threatened to kill her.
“It had been 10 years since the Rihanna incident, which happened when he was a kid, basically, 19 years old,” Barris says. “I saw him out, and he was very contrite and wanted to do something. I felt like, let’s do that.”
Reviews of the episode were mixed, with many entertainment publications — including TVLine — taking black-ish and ABC to task for giving Brown yet another gig despite his history of violence, misogyny and homophobia.”The thing I felt most bothered by, by sites and by reviews, is that we are beyond conscious of what we do on that show. We are very, very aware, very much so trying to hold ourselves to a really high standard,” Barris says. “And I felt the response was like, ‘Gotcha!’”
He continues: “The sad part about it is, the point behind that particular episode was fantastic. And it was completely missed… It really saddened me.”
The executive producer refers to the episode’s discussion of media representation via Stepin Fetchit, a black actor who achieved great success in the 1930s, but did so by portraying characters who were stereotypically lazy and unintelligent.
“If Adam Sander does a bad movie, he doesn’t bring down the whole white race. But if Tyler Perry does, it’s like, ‘See what you guys do?’ and that type of thing,” Barris says. “It made a really great point, and I feel like because of the controversy that people chose to dig into Chris Brown, something that people really could’ve gotten something from — and a really good episode of television, I believe — were missed.”

Ant, 41 – who announced his struggle with alcohol and prescription drug addiction in June before checking into an unnamed rehab facility to undergo two months of treatment – was rumoured to maybe not be ready to jet to Australia for the annual ITV series.
However, Kevin told crowds at the Edinburgh International TV Festival: “How very dare you. Ant is doing really well and we’re expecting him to return to I’m A Celebrity, so we won’t be resting it.
“We don’t often talk about shows that have been on for a long time but they are vitally important to ITV and we have to put a lot resource and effort and energy into keeping these shows fresh and good,” he added, according to the Radio Times.
Kevin even added enthusiastically when asked if Ant is irreplaceable: “Yes!”
The boss went on to say of the pair: ”There have been no new entertainment shows in the last 10 years that have taken the world by storm.”
The latest news comes after Holly Willoughby, 36, was rumoured to be hosting I’m A Celebrity alongside Dec, 41.
But, an insider insisted at the time: ”Dec wouldn’t work on screen without Ant on any major show and he has said the last thing he would do is go to Australia without him.
“To say he would consider working with Holly is ridiculous,” they continued. “He is a good friend of hers but he would not do that to Ant.”
Insisting that those close to the Britain’s Got Talent favourites are confident that troubled Ant will “bounce back” in time for the new series, the source shared: “Ant and Dec are a team with a huge emotional bond.
“They are like brothers and Dec will only be hosting I’m A Celebrity with Ant by his side,” they went on to tell The Mirror.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! returns to ITV later this year.
