Naga’s BBC colleague Huw Edwards has since rushed to defend the 46-year-old following the criticism she has faced online.

The Welsh BBC News journalist took to Twitter to issue a humorous jibe at the incident while joking that he will now be presenting the programme in front of the Flag of Wales in light of the debate.

However, his post has now been deleted “by order”, Huw has since claimed.

Huw initially shared a photo of himself, which he had edited so it seemed like he was hosting the news with the flag’s famous red dragon behind him.

He penned alongside the parody snap: “Flags are now mandatory — very pleased with my new backdrop for @BBCNews at Ten.”

Express.co.uk has contacted the BBC asking for comment.

‘Massive step forward!’ Pimlico Plumbers boss praises GB News launch amid cancel calls https://briefnews.eu/massive-step-forward-pimlico-plumbers-boss-praises-gb-news-launch-amid-cancel-calls/ https://briefnews.eu/massive-step-forward-pimlico-plumbers-boss-praises-gb-news-launch-amid-cancel-calls/#respond Thu, 18 Feb 2021 23:06:54 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/massive-step-forward-pimlico-plumbers-boss-praises-gb-news-launch-amid-cancel-calls/

Pimlico Plumbers founder Charlie Mullins has become a voice of reason to many TV watchers in recent months, joining the likes of Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain for a number of debates. In his latest stint on the ITV show, Charlie found himself at the centre of a row surrounding compulsory vaccines for employees, a strategy now widely being tipped in businesses up and down the country. In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Charlie discussed all about the backlash he’s received from his TV stints and why he’s supporting Andrew Neil’s GB News after it faced similar cancel calls.

“If I’m being honest,” Charlie began. “Whatever I’ll come out with, you’ve got the haters and the knockers. And they’ll always be there.”

Referring to the mandatory employee vaccine debate on GMB specifically, the Pimlico Plumbers boss continued: “But most people with common sense, they listen properly to it and comment from there, but most people comment on what they think they heard (and) saw.

“They read into it how they want to read into it, and I can’t change that, you know. I expect that backlash all the time.”

Charlie did mention, however: “I think the majority of people, I believe, see where I’m coming from and eventually agree with it.”

“I don’t feel I’ve done anything wrong and it will get the economy going again,” Charlie continued.

After being on the receiving end of social media critics and trolls himself, Charlie was then asked about the reaction GB News has faced ahead of its launch.

The upcoming news channel is chaired by Andrew Neil, who has promised to deliver “individual and news-based programmes, built around very strong presenters.”

However, the channel has faced criticism from The Financial Times as being “right-leaning,” and has even had a number of famous faces threatening a boycott.

Praising further, the Pimlico Plumbers boss continued: “He’s not everybody’s cup of tea and that’s when you can tell that he knows his stuff.

“So I would say that’s a great move and I’m not sure why, again, why will people doubt it and start saying it’s going to be a bit like Fox News?

“I mean, Fox News has still got a lot of good stuff on it. So if he’s [Andrew Neil] behind it, then I think what a great thing that is.

“You know, of course, and I look forward to being on it, because, again, I think he’s a fair guy but he also calls you out if he feels you’ve not got it right.”

EastEnders boss drops vital details about Sharon Mitchell’s next step to kill Ian Beale https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-boss-drops-vital-details-about-sharon-mitchells-next-step-to-kill-ian-beale/ https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-boss-drops-vital-details-about-sharon-mitchells-next-step-to-kill-ian-beale/#respond Fri, 01 Jan 2021 08:34:54 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-boss-drops-vital-details-about-sharon-mitchells-next-step-to-kill-ian-beale/

On Christmas Day, EastEnders fans found out Sharon (played by Letitia Dean) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) had joined forces in a bid to take down Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt). BBC One viewers saw the episode end with the Queen Vic landlady trying to kill her new husband with a poisoned Christmas pudding. She is determined to deliver Ian his comeuppance and has a killer plan to execute which Jon Sen, the soap’s boss has teased.

While Sharon’s initial plan to kill off Ian didn’t work, she is stepping up the anti.

Speaking about what’s to come in the New Year, the Executive Producer has spoken out about Sharon’s plan to finish Ian off once and for all.

If crushing a suspicious powder into the brandy wasn’t evil enough, it seems Sharon will continue with her plan to position her new husband.

“Of course the big moment from Christmas was Sharon’s deathly scheming against Ian after she masterminded the attack with Phil that didn’t go quite to plan,” Jon said.

“Sharon isn’t about to let Ian off the hook that quickly, her poisonous plotting is just getting started and she wants to avenge Denny’s death once and for all.”

With the mention of poison once more, does this mean Sharon is going to try again?

The actress who plays Sharon recently spoke out about her storyline and said: “I think [she] realises that if she doesn’t do something pretty drastic all her malicious hard work will be ruined.

“Ian’s shown Sharon how he feels, and she hasn’t really manipulated him emotionally throughout their marriage as they both entered it aware of the other’s feelings – or non-existent feelings in Sharon’s case.

It comes after Ian wants nothing to do with his mother now after she gave Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) a fake alibi – and this is the perfect situation for Sharon.

“She’s been battling with Kathy anyway and this accelerates things for her – she’s breaking Ian down, ostracising him from his family, although some could say he did most of that himself – and driving a wedge between him and his mum,” the long-term soap actress commented.

“She’s become very good at playing the doting wife!

“She’s determined to carry on with her plan and she needs to be very close to Ian in order to do so,” Letitia told Metro.co.uk.

Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt replaced on BBC Breakfast as Nina and Roger step in https://briefnews.eu/naga-munchetty-and-charlie-stayt-replaced-on-bbc-breakfast-as-nina-and-roger-step-in/ https://briefnews.eu/naga-munchetty-and-charlie-stayt-replaced-on-bbc-breakfast-as-nina-and-roger-step-in/#respond Sat, 19 Dec 2020 10:55:06 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/naga-munchetty-and-charlie-stayt-replaced-on-bbc-breakfast-as-nina-and-roger-step-in/

BBC One viewers are used to seeing Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt sitting on the infamous red sofa on a Saturday morning, but today, they were absent. Instead, Nina Warhurst and Roger Johnson were delivering the news from BBC Breakfast. As for who made up the rest of the presenting news, the usual journalists across Sport and Weather were present.

At six am when the show kicked off, Nina was heard saying: “Good morning, welcome to Breakfast with Roger Johnson and Nina Warhurst.”

“Good morning, our headlines today; more than two-thirds of people in England are living under the strictest Covid restrictions as more areas move into tier three,” Roger began explaining to those watching at home.

“The government says there’s growing concern about a new strain of the virus which seems to be spreading rapidly in the south-east,” Nina continued.

And Roger took over: “Teachers and school governors say that plans to test million of school pupils in England after Christmas are ‘undeliverable.’”

To complete the top news, Nina added: “And the ballroom battle for the Glitterball is nearly over – we look back on a Strictly series like no other.”

The camera then panned across the studio to Mike Bushell.

He said: “Well, there’s a change of direction for sports funding in the UK!

“New sports like climbing and surfing get funding, while more traditional ones see their budgets trimmed. But how will this affect the medal count?”

Rodger, on the other hand, is the main presenter for the regional news programme BBC North West Tonight.

As for where Naga and Charlie are, in the run up to Christmas their hours – as well as Louise Minchin’s and Dan Walker’s – change.

Last year, Naga presented the main morning show, and she was joined by Matt for the weather.

So perhaps she is due to return next Friday to host and is therefore having a weekend off.

Money Heist cancelled: Netflix step in to save La Casa De Papel after cancellation https://briefnews.eu/money-heist-cancelled-netflix-step-in-to-save-la-casa-de-papel-after-cancellation/ https://briefnews.eu/money-heist-cancelled-netflix-step-in-to-save-la-casa-de-papel-after-cancellation/#respond Sat, 20 Jun 2020 05:28:41 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/money-heist-cancelled-netflix-step-in-to-save-la-casa-de-papel-after-cancellation/

Money Heist began on a free-to-air channel in Spain and was an instant hit but as the show progressed, the viewing figures began to fall. When season two wrapped, the cast said goodbye to one another and prepared to move on with their lives as it had been decided La Casa De Papel would be cancelled. Fortunately, Netflix stepped in to save the popular series.

In Money Heist: The Phenomenon, it was revealed Netflix was the key to saving the series and continuing the story of The Professor (played by Alvaro Morte).

The narrator told viewers: “Our story begins in 2017 on a Spanish free-to-air TV Channel, Antena 3. We started off well with 4.5 million viewers. But…,” before trailing off.

“The first season did very well, especially at the start of the series, but viewership gradually declined in the second season,” producer Jesús Colmenar explained.

Rio star Miguel Herran added: “It dropped by half.”

While Netflix didn’t make a big announcement about the arrival of Money Heist, the cast noticed an increase in followers on their social media channels as the series took off worldwide.

Alex described: “Enormous banners in Saudi Arabia. I couldn’t believe it.”

Homages to La Casa De Papel and the Dali mask popped up everywhere including Brazil, Mexico and Columbia.

Money Heist went on to make it to the second most popular series in the main global ranking competing against every other show in history.

The Chase: Bradley Walsh forced to step in over contestant’s answer blunder https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-bradley-walsh-forced-to-step-in-over-contestants-answer-blunder/ https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-bradley-walsh-forced-to-step-in-over-contestants-answer-blunder/#respond Sat, 06 Jun 2020 06:21:35 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-chase-bradley-walsh-forced-to-step-in-over-contestants-answer-blunder/

Bradley Walsh was on hand to guide today’s batch of contestants through The Chase for their chance of taking home a share of the jackpot prize fund. However, the ITV host was left exasperated when one contestant kept mistaking the answer she had given for a different word despite Bradley’s numerous attempts to correct her.

The Chase viewers were introduced to Michael, 52, Rebecca, 25, Chris, 34 and Asham, 48.

Michael was the first contestant to face today’s Chaser, Shaun after earning £5,000 in his cash builder round.

He failed to secure his spot in the final and the next player followed suit as Rebecca missed out on the next round too.

Luckily, the third contestant was able to add some money to the jackpot prize fund after earning £4,000 in his cash builder round.

Asham was the final contestant to take on Shaun after surprising Bradley by revealing she had time living in a Buddhist monastery.

She scored just two questions correctly in her cash builder round but impressed the ITV host with her infectious personality and clever guesswork.

Her luck eventually ran out and Asham was down to a one question shoot-out with Shaun to secure her spot in the final.

“Where does a stevedore work?” Bradley asked before reading out the options of bullring, dockside and racecourse.

Bradley was forced to correct the contestant again before revealing dockside was the correct answer and she had been booted off the show.

The Chase viewers found the incident hilarious as one tweeted: “Tell her again Bradley for f**k sake RACECOURSE #thechase.”

“Me watching Asham during that chase there! Racecourse was an option and she kept saying racehorse! #TheChase,” a second said.

Praising the contestant, one viewer added: “Asham was a great ‘advert’ for Buddhism. So positive and full of life. Favourite contestant for ages. #TheChase.”

Someone else added: “Well #Asham #TheChase was very entertaining… I love people who are unashamedly just ‘them’ a one-off unique human being… I’d love her as a friend!!!”

Chris went on to tackle the final chase on his own and racked up an impressive 16 correct answers.

Shaun fell apart in the final and gave Chris nine opportunities to push him back and increase his chances of winning.

The last remaining contestant beat the Chaser and took home £4,000 after getting four of those push-backs correct.

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm.

Step Up Series Revived at Starz for Season 3 After YouTube Cancellation https://briefnews.eu/step-up-series-revived-at-starz-for-season-3-after-youtube-cancellation/ https://briefnews.eu/step-up-series-revived-at-starz-for-season-3-after-youtube-cancellation/#respond Thu, 28 May 2020 18:44:49 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/step-up-series-revived-at-starz-for-season-3-after-youtube-cancellation/

Step Up: High Water has danced its way out of the TV graveyard: The drama series has been picked up at Starz for Season 3, after getting cancelled at YouTube in 2019.

The third season will consist of 10 episodes, which will bring back several popular characters from the show’s first two seasons, while “expanding the scope and storytelling.” Additionally, Tricia Helfer (Lucifer) has joined the cast as a character named Erin.

“[Series creator] Holly [Sorensen] and her team have created a new and dynamic iteration of the series that captures the hallmarks that have made the Step Up franchise so successful and elevates the storytelling for the premium, global audience,” said Christina Davis, president of original programming at Starz. “This, coupled with the worldwide appeal of the multi-talented, multicultural cast, will make this series a great addition to our slate.”

Inspired by the Step Up film franchise, High Water stars R&B singer Ne-Yo as Sage Odom, the legendary founder of Atlanta’s famed High Water Performing Arts School. In Season 3, Sage’s relationship with partner Collette (Glee‘s Naya Rivera) will be challenged “as they face criminal charges, financial ruin and powerful political enemies who want to destroy Sage and High Water,” the logline reads.

Returning series regulars also include Petrice Jones (Tal), Faizon Love (Uncle Al), Marcus Mitchell (Dondre), Jade Chynoweth (Odalie), Carlito Olivero (Davis), Terrence Green (Rigo), Eric Graise (King) and Kendra Oyesanya (Poppy).

Step Up: High Water was initially available on YouTube’s subscription service, YouTube Red (now YouTube Premium), but was cancelled after two seasons as the video platform moved away from original programming.

Though there’s currently no timetable for the Season 3 launch, the first two Step Up seasons will be available on the Starz app and Starz On Demand prior to the new season’s debut.

Christine was keen to hear more from Linda asking: “Why do you feel sorry for him Linda?”

“I just do,” she replied. “I just think they were in a car the four of them going for a drive or whatever, not hurting anyone, self-isolating in the car, they couldn’t hurt anyone else.”

Saira interrupted: “But so many people could have done that up and down this country but they were told that they can’t.”

“I’m sure many people have done that Saira,” Linda retorted.

The Smash Musical Is (Finally) One Step Closer to Actually Happening https://briefnews.eu/the-smash-musical-is-finally-one-step-closer-to-actually-happening/ https://briefnews.eu/the-smash-musical-is-finally-one-step-closer-to-actually-happening/#respond Thu, 21 May 2020 12:49:55 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/the-smash-musical-is-finally-one-step-closer-to-actually-happening/

Forget about tech — the gestation period of Smash‘s musical-theater adaptation is the real hell. But the morning after a charity live stream with the show’s cast, there’s new hope for those wanting to see Ivy and Karen on the Great White Way.

The project, first announced in 2015, is officially heading to Broadway, TVLine has learned. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who wrote much of the series’ music, will pen the score. Bob Martin (The Prom) and Rick Elice (Jersey Boys) will co-write the book. And Joshua Bergasse, who won an Emmy for his work choreographing the NBC series, will return to choreograph the musical.

The stage show will include much of the music that Wittman and Shaiman wrote for Smash, and it will chronicle the lives of characters like Ivy (played by Megan Hilty in the series), Karen (played by Katharine McPhee in the series), Julia (played by Debra Messing in the series) and Tom (played by Christian Borle in the series) as they work to mount Bombshell, the Marilyn Monroe biographical musical-within-the-musical. However, we hear the stage musical will “depart liberally” from the TV series.

Steven Spielberg and Neil Meron, who were executive producers on the NBC series, and former Peacock net boss Robert Greenblatt will serve as lead producers on the show.

“I am personally thrilled to be a part of this musical and its road to Broadway,” Spielberg said in a statement. “Smash is near and dear to my heart, and it seems fitting that a new musical inspired by what we did on the show would eventually come to the stage. I’m beyond thrilled to be working with this incredible creative team and my producing partners, who began the Smash journey with me over 10 years ago.”

Meron added, “Speaking for myself and Bob Greenblatt, our partner when he was running NBC, we’re thrilled Steven wanted to embark on this musical with us. We’ve all felt that Shaiman and Wittman’s incredible score for Smash belonged on Broadway. Collaborating with first-class bookwriters Rick Elice and Bob Martin, and the world’s best choreographer Josh Bergasse, will be the icing on the cake.”

At the moment, there is no timeline for when Smash: A New Musical will debut on Broadway. But you can bide your time by watching the cast’s one-night-only concert from June 2015 and a virtual reunion (from 2020), both of which were livestreamed Wednesday evening as a benefit for The Actors Fund.
