Sir Starmer joined McGovern on Packed Lunch to talk about the cladding crisis and plans to force a parliament vote to resolve the issue. However, talk quickly turned to homeschooling and how Starmer is coping in the third lockdown. As he revealed he tends to help his children with “easier” subjects, McGovern took the opportunity to tease the Labour leader about becoming Prime Minister but not being good at maths. “Keir, can I ask you, we were talking on the show earlier about homeschooling and you know there’s lots of parents struggling with all of that at the minute,” McGovern began. “I was keen to know, how is all of that going on at house? Are you managing to homeschool amongst all of this going on?” Starmer replied: “Yeah well, my wife works in a hospital so our children are children of key workers. “But last week we were self-isolating and therefore we were homeschooling. READ MORE: The Voice UK: Sir Tom Jones mocked by Olly Murs as judges clash “Lots and lots of parents up against it trying to work with homeschooling.” “Which lesson are you best at?” McGovern probed. Starmer revealed: “Well, listen when it gets to things like Maths and English I am scratching my head trying to help the children with it so I stick to the easier subjects. Maths is the one we are struggling most with.” McGovern replied: “Just given that you mention Maths and there’s lots of figures involved in your job. “Do you think as Prime Minister you’d be alright if you aren’t that good at Maths?” “I didn’t say I wasn’t good at Maths, I said I wasn’t helping the kids at Maths,” Starmer hit back. “The homeschooling is a challenge for everyone but we are doing everything we can between now and 2024 to win that General Election. “And actually, to give people what they deserve on the back of this pandemic. Susanna Reid, 50, and her co-host Piers Morgan, 55, were joined by Sir Keir Starmer, 58, to discuss the latest developments arising from the coronavirus pandemic. However, the Good Morning Britain star wanted to ask the Labour Party leader whether he would challenge Prime Minister Boris Johnson, 56, about how children were going to cope as schools shut their doors. The journalist claimed students were going to suffer greatly now they won’t be in the educational environment for several weeks. Reid said: “So now schools are closed, I’m devastated because really we are damaging a generation of children.” Starmer agreed the decision was “really tough,” to which the presenter added: “I understand they have to be [out of school]. “I struggle with home learning and we have access to resources,” she continued, before challenging the leader of the opposition. “How are you going to ensure that the government delivers the laptops and access to home learning resources that a lot of people don’t have? “Because this is going to open up a gap in attainment hugely between private and state schools and within schools themselves between the haves and the have-nots,” the journalist remarked. READ MORE: Iain Duncan Smith snaps at GMB’s Charlotte Hawkins in tense Brexit row Starmer replied: “That’s exactly the problem. We’re back in Parliament on Wednesday so I will get my first chance in Parliament to press the Government on this. “We’ve been pressing them for months because you may remember this, of course, happened last year when Gavin Williamson promised millions of devices would be made available. “In the end, I think 40 percent of what was promised was delivered and that was the end of that. We can’t go there again. “There’s a huge mishmash. Children in overcrowded accommodation who don’t have access to devices or where there are date charges that they can’t afford,” the politician continued. The Prime Minister said on Sunday’s edition of The Andrew Marr Show there was “no doubt in his mind” children should return to the classroom before doing a U-turn just over 24 hours later. Starmer has called for closures to be implemented before the start of the new term, telling the BBC: “We need to go back to where we were in March with very, very strong messaging about staying at home. “I’m afraid that the closure of schools is now inevitable and therefore that needs to be part of the national plan for further restrictions.” Taking to Twitter, viewers responded to the interview on Good Morning Britain as one wrote on Twitter: “Sir Keir Starmer proving intelligence, understanding and having a clear plan. This man is class. #gmb.” Another added: “Yeah that’s right Keir Starmer calls for a national lockdown a few hours before Boris calls a national lockdown so it looks like it’s your idea. How thick do you think the public are #gmb.” Whilst a third commented: “@Keir_Starmer looking impressive on @gmb could this be his finest hour and the moment he breaks through as a PM in waiting? #GMB @susannareid100 @piersmorgan.” “Easy ride for Keir here. No real answers or anything of interest said. More coherent than Johnson though. #lockdown #gmb #KeirStarmer,” a fourth remarked. A fifth posted: “Sir Keir saying some children won’t get the same level of education at home. Shame no one came up with a plan to provide internet to all… Someone in the labour party #gmb.” Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV. Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has said he wanted to be able to “draw a line in the sand” after the anti-Semitism report’s publication, but Jeremy Corbyn hindered that. Since the release of the EHRC report into the Labour Party, Mr Corbyn has been suspended pending further investigation and has had the whip removed. Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Sir Keir said: “Within the Shadow Cabinet you have responsibility, I accept that. “We all have to accept the findings yesterday and apologise for them. “Recognise the hurt they have caused and be absolutely detemined as I am to implement the recommendations as quickly as possible.” BBC presenter Charlie Stayt interjected: “As Luciana Berger said very clearly, for people looking from the outside what happened to her wasn’t hidden. “The question to anyone who was in a senior role in the Labour Party over that period of time is, why weren’t you seeing it? READ MORE: BBC QT: Labour MP makes EMBARRASSING anti-Semitism confession “If as you say, you did call it out why did you stay metaphorically in the room? “You were backing Jeremy Corbyn whose leadership in this report has been called so far into question in terms of legality. “You backed him just by staying there.” Sir Keir continued: “I called this out in the Shadow Cabinet as did a number of other people and publicly. The EHRC concluded that the lack of training for people handling anti-Semitism complaints indirectly discriminated against Jewish members until August 2020, by which time Sir Keir Starmer was leader of the party. Labour has committed to proper training, with the EHRC recommending it should be mandatory and fully implemented within six months. Recommendations made by the watchdog include commissioning an independent process to handle anti-Semitism complaints. The EHRC’s lead investigator Alasdair Henderson told a press conference that blame could not be placed on one person alone and the problem went beyond Mr Corbyn, but added that “as leader of the party, and with evidence of political interference from within his office, he does have a responsibility ultimately for those failings”. Piers Morgan has had a break from his presenting duties on Good Morning Britain as he enjoys the summer but that hasn’t stopped him from speaking out on appearances from politicians. Today, Sir Keir Starmer appeared on the breakfast show to discuss how he believes MPs should “pull together” to fight a No Deal Brexit. Starmer also praised Jeremy Corbyn for bringing people together in an attempt to find a consensus. But Morgan wasn’t impressed with Starmer and told him to “grow a pair” to return to the show when he’s back from his holiday. The outspoken presenter also challenged Corbyn and Diane Abbot to interview with him on Good Morning Britain when he returns. In a clip shared on Good Morning Britain’s Twitter, Starmer said: “I think it is looking quite good. I mean the question is whether there is a majority to stop this reckless No Deal approach that Johnson has set upon. “Obviously that means bringing opposition parties together, that’s what we’re doing this morning. “There’s been a lot of discussion over the summer about how this would work. “So I think Jeremy Corbyn convening this, bringing people together, is the right thing to do.” Morgan took to his own Twitter page to share the tweet and slammer Starmer’s remarks. He wrote: “Amusing to see Labour’s senior politicians sneaking onto @GMB while I’m away, after hiding for the past year. “Now grow a pair @Keir_Starmer (and you @jeremycorbyn @johnmcdonnellMP @HackneyAbbot) & come back on again when I return.” Presenter Charlie Stayt asked: “Our top story today; later today Jeremy Corbyn will meet with other opposition party leaders as he looks to secure support for his plan to block a No Deal Brexit. “Well Shadow Secretary [Sir] Keir Starmer joins us now from westminster. What do you want out of this meeting today?” Starmer replied: “The purpose of the meeting is to bring opposition leaders together and try to agree a plan into next week. “I think it’s really important we act swiftly because Prime Minister Johnson is taking us on this reckless route to a No Deal Brexit, which will have really important ramifications for our country and we have to stop him in that. “And therefore the purpose of the meeting is to have a pretty frank and open discussion; to say to Boris Johnson as soon as we get back, ‘This parliament is not prepared to support a No Deal Brexit.’” Starmer added opposition leader would “take on a united front to take Johnson on in this reckless approach that he’s got”. Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am while BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One also at 6am. BBC Breakfast returned with Louise Minchin and Charlie Stayt presenting live from the studio in Media City. Joining them on a live video link was Sir Keir Starmer MP, who spoke passionately about the meeting being held today which will see several opposition party leaders gather to come up with a plan to stop a No Deal Brexit. During the conversation, Minchin wanted to find out why their were strong views against Boris Johnson’s proposal and it wasn’t long before Starmer hit out at the Prime Minister. Stayt kicked off the discussion with: “Our top story today; later today Jeremy Corbyn will meet with other opposition party leaders as he looks to secure support for his plan to block a No Deal Brexit.” “Well Shadow Secretary [Sir] Keir Starmer joins us now from westminster. What do you want out of this meeting today?” Minchin probed. “The purpose of the meeting is to bring opposition leaders together and try to agree a plan into next week,” the guest replied. “I think it’s really important we act swiftly because Prime Minister Johnson is taking us on this reckless route to a No Deal Brexit, which will have really important ramifications for our country and we have to stop him in that. “And therefore the purpose of the meeting is to have a pretty frank and open discussion; to say to Boris Johnson as soon as we get back, ‘this parliament is not prepared to support a No Deal Brexit.’” Minchin questioned: “What is the plan then? A vote of confidence? What is it? “ “As you may have seen this Prime Minister has apparently been taking advice on whether he can just shut down Parliament from 9 September through to the middle of October,” Stamer explained. READ MORE: BBC News: Charlie Stayt unimpressed with Naga Munchetty over complaint joke “That’s the signs of a Prime Minister who isn’t confident he’s going to get a deal and [someone who] doesn’t think he would win in a clash with parliament, so we’ve got to act quickly.” Thos watching at home then saw Minchin continue with: “What are you trying to do? To get Brexit, delay Brexit, stop Brexit? What is it?” “It is to stop a No Deal Brexit,” Starmer stated confidently. “We’re on this reckless course that Johnson has put us on. “He’s not putting an alternative deal before us. He’s pursuing a course which is likely to end up as No Deal Brexit, Parliament has never accepted that. “Boris Johnson thinks he can just knock Parliament out of the way…there’s going to be this confrontation next week. “We [opposition leaders] are going to take on a united front to take Johnson on in this reckless approach that he’s got.” Later on in the show, leader of the Liberal Democrats party Jo Swinton MP joined from Westminster, where she spoke about what she wants from today’s meeting. “I want us to be able to have confidence that we can stop the catastrophe of a No Deal Brexit,” she told Minchin. “Brexit can be stopped! We do not need to settle for this damaging path for our country. I welcome the opportunity to talk with others on the opposition benches who are concerned about No Deal as well.” BBC Breakfast airs every morning at 6am on BBC One.
Galloway was responding to Starmer statement to Labour members at the party’s annual conference, in which he said all options must be kept on the table to “break the impasse” that has befallen UK-EU negotiations on Brexit, including remaining within the EU.
He warned that Starmer may have wrecked any chance of Labour gaining power at the next general election, because this move would be seen as reneging on the decision of the majority of the public to back Brexit.
Galloway told RT: “It is a catastrophic piece of strategic positioning which may have just cost Labour the next election.
“A promise that might renege on the decision made in the Brexit referendum would be electorally catastrophic.”
Starmer told a packed conference in Liverpool: “We must have other options. And conference, that must include campaigning for a public vote.
“It’s right that parliament has the first say, but if we need to break the impasse, our options must include campaigning for a public vote and nobody is ruling out remain as an option.”
He received a standing ovation, but the former London mayoral candidate says that Starmer’s intervention was “unauthorized and contradicted earlier statements made by Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell.” On Monday, McDonnell stated that any future second referendum should not include remaining in the EU as an option.
Starmer’s announcement has unsurprisingly polarized those on social media. Labour supporter and Novara Media contributor, Grace Blakeley, claimed that he had sent a very clear message to the British people: “The British establishment is above democracy,” he said, adding: “He’s enabling the far right.”
Keir Starmer has just sent a very clear message to the people of this country: the British establishment is above democracy.
In doing so, he’s not just treating the people who elected him with disdain, he’s enabling the far right. https://t.co/1CKWJIN0CL

Remain would not win a second referendum. Remain could not win the first referendum with the entire political and business establishment, and most of the Left and union movement, behind it. It would not have that this time. The extent of denial among Remainers is off the charts.

Labour Leave have accused Starmer of trying to position himself as the “Remain replacement for Jeremy [Corbyn],” while a young Labour member told delegates in an impassioned speech that “if we go against the people’s will, we will lose these voters!”
Left-wing journalist Paul Mason was more supportive, however, comparing it to a speech made by left-wing Labour legend Tony Benn in 1980, labeling Starmer’s intervention as “a dramatic moment that sets the agenda.”
This could all get v nasty v fast – Labour leave accusing Keir Starmer of making a leadership pitch – 'Many people will wonder whether Sir Keir is trying to line himself up as the Remain replacement for Jeremy.'

Galloway, however, is convinced that a certain group of rich and influential elites will be claiming victory today. “The lobby led by Tony Blair, paid for by George Soros has won a great victory today,” he told RT.

Yesterday’s edition of Good Morning Britain saw ITV presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid enter into a tense debate with Labour MP John McDonnell.
In the wake of the explosive scenes on the live breakfast programme, fellow MP and Brexit Shadow Secretary Sir Starmer has reportedly refused to do an interview due to the hosts’ “mean” treatment of McDonnell.
According to journalist Morgan, 53, Sir Starmer was set to do the rounds with all the other morning news programme, in the middle of an important time for the government as prime minister Theresa May puts her Brexit deal to Parliament.
Morgan referenced the absence before launching a tirade at the politician.
He declared: “I’m just tweeting Keir Starmer, just telling him when he grows a pair, he can come on again.”
Surprised by the sudden tone change, Reid joked: “I thought you were texting Bradley Walsh.”
“Sir Keir Starmer won’t come on the programme,” Morgan went on. “He’s doing every other programme apart from us today, before his big speech at the Labour party conference.
“It’s apparently because we were mean to John McDonnell yesterday.”
“I don’t think we were mean to John McDonnell,” Reid then declared.
A GMB spokesperson has now clarified what happened on the programme.
“Keir Starmer was invited to do Good Morning Britain this morning,” they said, “and we would welcome him on the programme at any future date.”
Presenter Morgan continued: “We asked him what their policy would be on nuclear defence systems should we need to, if they were in government.
“Well sorry Sir Keir, these are rather important questions, and I still don’t know the answer.
“So rather than hiding and playing the big old ‘Oh you’re so mean, I can’t come on…,’ get on the programme and tell us, what is the policy going to be?
“What are any of your policies going to be?” he added.
Reid then reminded: “You’ve got an hour and 10 minutes.”
Later, ITV political editor Robert Peston revealed he was in solidarity with the team for Starmer’s decision.
He said: “If I see him, I’ll communicate to him he should have come on your show, because you would have been nothing but nice to him wouldn’t you…”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
