LONDON — The previously runaway property markets of some of the world’s largest financial centres are slowing down rapidly.

On Thursday new data from the Royal Institute for Chartered Surveyors (RICS) showed that the London property market continues to stutter, with one figure in property industry saying that the data shows that recent developments have “killed the fluidity of the London market.”

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said on Friday it was recalling more than 162,000 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivans because a software glitch may cause the vehicles to stall.

The Italian-American automaker said one accident had potentially been linked to the defect. Under a rare set of conditions, a vehicle’s engine control module may incorrectly assess the engine’s operating status and cause it to stall, Fiat Chrysler said.

Dealers will update the engine control software, the company said, adding that most incidents associated with the glitch took place at low speeds or when the vehicles were starting up.

The Center for Auto Safety, a consumer advocacy group, petitioned the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in November to investigate the issue after it said at least 50 owners had reported stalling in new Pacifica minivans. The agency asked Fiat Chrysler to answer questions about the stalling last month.

Fiat Chrysler said it had begun investigating the issue before the petition was filed.

The recall includes nearly 154,000 vehicles in the United States and more than 8,000 others around the world, but the company did not immediately say when the new software would be available.

(Reuters) — Big cash infusions for startups from an ever-expanding group of financiers, led by SoftBank and Middle East sovereign wealth funds, have extinguished hopes that the technology IPO market would bounce back this year.

These deep-pocketed financiers, which have traditionally invested in the public markets but are seeking better returns from private tech companies, have enabled startups to raise more money, stay private longer and spurn the regulatory hassles of an IPO even as they become larger than many public companies.

At The Wall Street Journal D.Live conference this week in Southern California, a number of venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, IPO experts and dealmakers spoke with Reuters about the surprisingly low number of IPOs and pointed to investors such as SoftBank for changing the business of startup financing.

“It’s not surprising if these companies get 10 term sheets,” said Nicole Quinn, an investing partner with Lightspeed Venture Partners, referring to formal offers of investment.

The result is a protracted IPO slump that has contributed to a 50 percent drop in the number of U.S. public companies over the last two decades, according to the Nasdaq. IPOs have fallen especially precipitously since 2014 – the year public market investors, including mutual funds, ramped up investment in private tech companies.

There are some signs of a more active fall for IPOs. Tech companies Switch, MongoDB and Roku have gone public in the past few weeks, with debuts from ForeScout Technologies Inc and Zscaler ahead.

Correction ahead?

Yet many investors are bracing for a market tumble after a sustained rally, raising questions about IPO opportunities for 2018.

Just 12 venture capital-backed tech companies went public in the United States in the first three quarters this year, compared to 27 for the same time period in 2014, according to IPO investment adviser Renaissance Capital.

The drought continues even though both the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI and Nasdaq Composite .IXIC are up more than 26 percent in the last year and market volatility is low, normally ideal conditions for an IPO.

Wall Street stock indexes have posted a string of record highs in recent weeks, and the Dow closed above 23,000 for the first time on Wednesday.

But Barry Diller, a longtime dealmaker and chairman of InterActiveCorp and Expedia, said the huge funding rounds had eliminated the traditional reason for an IPO.

“There is no reason to be public unless you need capital, and almost all these companies do not need capital,” Diller said.

SoftBank-Uber deal eyed

Increasingly, the big checks are coming from SoftBank, which in May closed a $ 93 billion investment fund.

So far this year, it has announced at least 14 investments in technology companies globally, including a $ 500 million deal with fintech company Social Finance and a $ 3 billion investment in shared workspace company WeWork, both private and already worth billions of dollars.

SoftBank is in the next week expected to finalize a highly anticipated deal with Uber in which it, along with other investors, would purchase as much as $ 10 billion in Uber shares, most of them from employees and existing investors in a so-called secondary offering.

“This is the third liquidity option,” said Larry Albukerk, who runs secondary market firm EB Exchange and spoke to Reuters by phone. “It used to be IPO or acquisition.”

SoftBank’s deals are causing venture capitalists to “prepare for more M&A exits,” and fewer IPOs over the long term, said Jenny Lee, managing partner at GGV Capital.

Meanwhile, Nasdaq’s private market business, set up in 2014, facilitated more than $ 1 billion in secondary market transactions last year, according to Bruce Aust, vice chairman of Nasdaq.

Secondary transactions allow employees and investors to get some cash by selling to other private investors, removing a significant pressure to go public.

The flood of private capital, and the lofty valuations that have come with it, have, paradoxically, created another reason for avoiding an IPO, said Chris Clapp, a managing director with consulting group MorganFranklin.

“Many times with my clients I don’t think they would achieve the same valuation in the public markets,” Clapp said in a phone interview.

Meal delivery company Blue Apron Holdings took a 27 percent haircut when it went public in June and software company Cloudera lost 53 percent of its valuation in its April IPO.

Snap, the owner of messaging app Snapchat, is down more than 10 percent from its IPO price in March.

On the 2011–2015 Dodge Journey, the driver’s-side front airbag can suddenly deploy due to a chafed wiring harness. The wiring may rub against the edge of the horn plate and a tab on the back of the steering wheel’s plastic cover, which can cut into the wire and deploy the airbag. Prior to any deployment, the airbag light may illuminate, the steering wheel controls for the cruise control and stereo may not work, and the wipers may come on at random.

FCA said it knows of at least six “minor” injuries since it first investigated the airbag problem in October 2014. The company recalled 209,135 examples of the 2011–2012 Dodge Grand Caravan for this same issue last month. Dealers will “apply a protective covering” on the wiring in late August. Vehicles built after April 20, 2015, have a redesigned steering-wheel cover.

But Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he will wait until the end of the season to make his final decision. And he will only carry on if he believes he can still produce top level performances rather than rely on his reputation and status.

“Let’s see what happens,” he said after the win over Southampton. “I mean the moment, how I feel, the situation, we have another two months of the season to go, because according to many I could not do what I’ve been doing.

“I am enjoying it but I will stop on top. I will not play one game by being simply ‘Ibrahimovic’ and for what I have done before in the game. If I don’t perform, if I don’t bring results, I will not play.

“I will not be like other players, playing on because they have made a great career and name and they are still playing because they are who they are. I will play as long as I can bring results.”

Ibrahimovic denied his decision will be shaped by whether Untied finish in the top four and qualify of next season’s Champions League – a trophy he has never won.

“No, it’s not about that.,” he added. “I came here and the club wasn’t in the Champions League. So I it had nothing to do with the Champions League. So somebody made up a story that if they don’t qualify for the Champions League I will not extend. It has nothing to do with that.”

Ibrahimovic puts his remarkable longevity down to pure hard work in training and never being satisfied with what he has achieved.

He added: “I feel in good shape. I train hard. People who know me from the locker room know that I train very hard. I have an objective every season I go into. And to reach that objective I need to train hard and I need to suffer when I train. That is how I achieve what I achieve.

“I’m from the old school where they work hard and get what they get from doing the hard work not like the new school where it is easy to get what you want.

“In my head I’m never satisfied – I always want more. I’m hungry to do more. That is my mentality. I’m not satisfied with what I’m doing – I always want more.

“This is my 32nd trophy. I’ve been in five different countries, I’ve been in the best clubs in the world and I’m repeating every year, what I am doing. This is another chapter in my career.”

Ibrahimovic has 26 goals in all competitions and if he continues his current strike rate is on course for around 40 because United could still have 23 more games to play – 13 in the Premier League and a possible 10 more in the Europa League and FA Cup, if they go all the way in those two competitions.

He bagged a career best 51 for Paris St Germain last season but will not reveal his personal target this season. “I will let you know when I am finished.”
