RELATED STORIES

Recently, a friend asked me what Tiny Pretty Things — the new series I’ve been mainlining for reasons we’ll get into in a moment — was all about.

“Ballet, bitches and butts,” I said, with zero shame. (Note to Netflix, which streams the show: Feel free to use that as a blurb!)

My friend knew to ask because she’d noticed that the new drama is set at a dance school, and she’s aware that I have a… let’s call it a totally-not-troubling! need to ingest pop culture dance content.

Have I ever taken more than a handful of the most rudimentary ballet lessons? Nope! Can I stand in first position for more than 30 seconds without my legs starting to tremble like a bowl of Jell-O atop an imbalanced washing machine? Not a chance! Am I perhaps, at this very moment, wearing these comfy, warm-up booties because New York City principal dancer Sara Mearns sports them on Instagram? Maybe!

The cycle repeats every few years: A ballet-centric movie or TV show will come out, and no matter whether it’s award-winning artistry or total trash, I’m soon revisiting my dreams of gliding across a stage on pointe. The 2000 film Center Stage shines like a Swarovski-studded tutu as the epitome of my dance delusion, but there are so many others pirouetting in its wake.

The movie Black Swan introduced me to the beauty that is Rodarte’s awesome open-knit arm warmers and the horror that is watching Natalie Portman stay perfectly in character while a physical therapist manually cajoles her actually dislocated rib back into place. Starz’s Flesh & Bone series — which really, really wasn’t what its trailer made it seem — at least had footage of grueling company classes and Ben Daniels screaming a lot.

The CW reality show Breaking Pointe, the Step Up movies, Robert Altman’s The Company, Disney+’s On Pointe — sign me up for all of it. When and/or if the Center Stage TV show ever comes to fruition, you’d better I’ll have massive riding-my-motorcycle-onto-a-Lincoln-Center-stage energy about that one, too.

tiny-pretty-things-netflix-commentary-dance-tv-showsBut back to Tiny Pretty Things: It’s scratching my ballet itch these days for two reasons. Just like many of the titles I just listed, A) The dancing is gorgeous. B) Pretty much everything else is a mess.

I say this with love! Imagine if you took the pilots for a murder mystery, a high school drama and a haves-vs-the-have-nots primetime soap, then you put ’em in a blender and gave the resulting mishmash a Freeform budget. Throw in some bloody feet, a lot of bare booty and sprinkle the conglomeration with words like developee and chassé, and you’re getting a sense of what I legitimately enjoy about this legitimately not-great series.

And wait — I haven’t even told you the plot yet. We enter the world of Chicago’s Archer School of Ballet via Neveah Stroyer, who wins a spot at the coveted academy after another student — Cassie Shore — falls from the rooftop and winds up in a coma. Was Cassie pushed? And if so, who did it?

Given the roster of her jealous, two-faced classmates, it could be anyone. Her roommate June? Her possibly psycho boyfriend Nabil? Her biggest competitor Bette? Or was it Ramon Costa, the bad boy (yet make no mistake, full-on adult) choreographer who was probably sleeping with Cassie and definitely keeps getting anonymous texts threatening to expose him for… something? Or school director Monique “Call Me Madame” DuBois (played by Lauren Holly), who’s shtupping one of her students?

tiny-pretty-things-netflix-commentary-dance-tv-showsOK, put that aside for a moment, because we haven’t even gotten to the dorm-room sex triangle involving Bette, her boyfriend Oren and his gay roommate Shane. Or the fact that Bette’s nascent dance career is being held together by Vicodin and lies, thanks to the injuries she’s hiding from the school’s staff. Or that Ramon thinks, at this school at this time, the best fodder for a commissioned ballet is Ripper, a balletic retelling of Jack the Ripper’s greatest hits.

Please understand that everything I just listed is about half of what’s going on, plot-wise, in Tiny Pretty Things‘ first season. And it’s tough to keep track of who’s feeling which way about whom — much less who’s likely to have attempted to kill Cassie — because the relationships among the students shift from friends to frenemies to outright foes and back with startling speed. BUT THOSE TUTUS, THO.

Toward the end of Episode 4, Ramon angrily addresses his students at the start of a rehearsal, calling them, “just a company of dancers, facing their own, immeasurable darkness” — a summation so unaware of its grandiosity that it could double as a tagline for the series. And who’d ever want to watch 10 episodes of that?

Uh, me. Totally me. So. Much. Me. And if you feel the same, grab your warm-up booties and meet me on the couch in 5,6,7 8!

TV’s Harley Quinn Set Stage for Birds of Prey: Playing Without Joker Is Aces https://briefnews.eu/tvs-harley-quinn-set-stage-for-birds-of-prey-playing-without-joker-is-aces/ https://briefnews.eu/tvs-harley-quinn-set-stage-for-birds-of-prey-playing-without-joker-is-aces/#respond Wed, 05 Feb 2020 15:54:07 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/tvs-harley-quinn-set-stage-for-birds-of-prey-playing-without-joker-is-aces/

RELATED STORIES

One of the exciting things about the upcoming Birds of Prey movie is getting to see Harley Quinn on her own, instead of as Joker’s sidekick. But if you can’t wait, there’s already a series that portrays just that: DC Universe’s Harley Quinn.

The adult animated series, which premiered on the DC Universe streaming service back in November, has become increasingly enjoyable every week. The pilot introduces us to Harley Quinn (voiced by The Big Bang Theory‘s Kaley Cuoco), who is happily in love with her boyfriend and partner-in-crime Joker (Alan Tudyk)… until he abandons her in Arkham Asylum. Well, that’s not entirely accurate: throughout the year spent in prison, in which Joker never shows up, Harley continues to be in love, to pine after him, steadfastly believing that he’s going to break her out eventually. Her new best friend Poison Ivy (Bless This Mess‘ Lake Bell) repeatedly tries to convince Harley to leave Joker, to no avail; even after Ivy breaks Harley out, Harley manages to get sucked back into the Clown Prince of Crime’s life. It takes some trickery for Harley to finally see the truth, claiming her emancipation from Joker and aiming to become a member of the criminal underworld on her own terms. Relatedly, the movie’s full title is Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn); it was influenced by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner’s comic book “reboot” of the character created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm for the animated Batman series.

Much of TV’s Harley Quinn functions as a very adult version of a Saturday morning cartoon, with familiar characters and animation styles, but one that’s relentlessly full of swears and graphic violence — watch too many episodes in a row and you might see the bright red blood when you close your eyes. It also takes a decidedly adult and intelligent approach to its subject matter, even when the show gets pretty dumb. The ridiculous jokes (some of which don’t land) and cartoonish violence (I cringed a number of times) is balanced out by the series’ admirable insistence on depicting the realities of abusive relationships, and the way you can warp your own thoughts and memories to make them fit into a narrative that feels safe — even when everyone on the outside is constantly telling you otherwise.

Harley Quinn’s Birds of Prey crew includes Renee Montoya, Huntress, Cassandra Cain and Black Canary

Harley Quinn doesn’t always work—some of the side characters are more eye-rolling than entertaining, and sometimes it feels as if the themes are being beat into your head with Harley’s giant wooden mallet, But when it does, it’s almost exhilarating to watch. The series’ commentary on sexism and misogyny is done through its own unique world. The third episode, “So You Need A Crew?,” centers on how no one will give Harley her own squad because she’s no longer with Joker, and how there’s a glass ceiling for female supervillains. When Harley meets Queen of Fables (Wanda Sykes!), she gets schooled on the unfair standards and limits put on women; in short, women are accepted as long as they don’t get too powerful. When Queen of Fables dared to try and become more powerful than male supervillains, she was punished disproportionately in contrast to the men who are simply thrown into Arkham. There’s also a difference in labels: a man robbing a bank is considered a “criminal mastermind” whereas a woman doing the same is simply a “crazy bitch.”

Much of what works about Harley Quinn is the fact that it never forgets how much trauma is built into Harley because of her past relationship with Joker (and even further back, as the series gives Harley new elements in her backstory). In “Being Harley Quinn,” Harley realizes that she can’t make basic decisions because she has no idea who she is without the abuser she was tied to for so long. As we literally dive into her mind, Harley investigates her own subconscious, which is littered with her ex, and takes a peek at her repressed memories, where she learns an uncomfortable truth.

At the same time, Harley Quinn remains endlessly fun. She does eventually assemble a ragtag crew of misfits — including a reimagined King Shark, though I do wish her crew didn’t include any men—and their criminal attempts help move the season along. There’s a wonderful friendship between Harley and Ivy, who become roommates, and which frequently sees a patient Ivy tries to rein in a naive, impulsive Harley. All of the voice actors are great, particularly Cuoco, but also Christoper Meloni’s sad-sack Commissioner Gordon or James Adomian’s take on Bane, which became an instant favorite and deserves a spin-off of his own.

But the center of it is always Harley, a reimagined antiheroine bouncing around with a childlike enthusiasm for mischief. It’s so easy to root for Harley despite her, uh, murderous streak, because it’s also so easy to see her simply as someone aiming to become her own woman — and yes, her own criminal — independent from her abusive ex.

Britain’s Got Talent 2019: Simon Cowell tears up as act PROPOSES to girlfriend on stage https://briefnews.eu/britains-got-talent-2019-simon-cowell-tears-up-as-act-proposes-to-girlfriend-on-stage/ https://briefnews.eu/britains-got-talent-2019-simon-cowell-tears-up-as-act-proposes-to-girlfriend-on-stage/#respond Sat, 18 May 2019 11:38:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/britains-got-talent-2019-simon-cowell-tears-up-as-act-proposes-to-girlfriend-on-stage/

There have been some touching performances already on the ITV contest as viewers saw David Walliams moved by the Flakefleet Primary School Choir and the judges well up over Dave Wardell and his dog Finn.

But Britain’s Got Talent fans will see a very special question asked in this evening’s episode when one act invites his girlfriend on stage to propose to her.

In the audition, singer Jacob Jones took to the stage to sing You Are So Beautiful, dedicating it to his girlfriend Faye.

He revealed how she had applied on his behalf, saying: “She sent it in, I had no idea about it.”

After he gave his performance, Jacob announced to the judges he wanted to do something else.

He said: “I was just wondering if I could ask my girlfriend to come up on stage.”

His partner made her way upon the stage where he declared: “I love you literally more than anything and I’m so glad that you believe in me and you did this to me and I wanted to ask you something.

“Faye Compton, will you marry me?” Jacob continued as he got down on one knee.

She gladly accepted his proposal as the delighted audience clapped and cheered the couple.

The judges were also overcome with emotion as Amanda Holden and Simon welled up at the action.

An insider said Simon was “chuffed” for the happy couple.

A source told The Mirror: “It’s one of the most emotional moments on the show we’ve seen for a long time.

“Simon was so chuffed for the pair of them. He was so emotional.”

Despite the joyous engagement, viewers will have to wait and see if Jacob gets the judges’ vote to go through to the next stage of the competition.

Last week’s instalment of Britain’s Got Talent saw viewers moved by an emotional performance.

Colin Thackery stepped onto the stage where he discussed his late wife and spoke about how he was delivering a song in her memory.

The former soldier sang Wind Beneath My Wings for his wife and it was evident all the judges and audience were taken with the performance.

David emotionally announced: “Colin… there is not a dry eye in the house.

“It was just the most perfect tribute. It affected us all deeply.”

Britain’s Got Talent continues tonight at 8pm on ITV.

Fortnite Prisoner stage 4 update as new skin location is UNLOCKED https://briefnews.eu/fortnite-prisoner-stage-4-update-as-new-skin-location-is-unlocked/ https://briefnews.eu/fortnite-prisoner-stage-4-update-as-new-skin-location-is-unlocked/#respond Mon, 18 Feb 2019 05:34:29 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/fortnite-prisoner-stage-4-update-as-new-skin-location-is-unlocked/

Epic Games are bringing to close one of their final season 7 challenges, how to unlock the Fortnite Prisoner stage 4 skin.

It’s been an ongoing task that started with hunting down and completing all parts of the Snowfall challenge.

Having unlocked the Prisoner skins, fans then had to work out how to complete each stage, with their being four designs available.

Most of these have included visiting special locations while wearing the skin in Battle Royale mode.

And Epic Games have finally added the place needed to unlock the Fortnite Prisoner Stage 4 outfit.

Like other unique outfits, the Snowfall skin can be evolved over time, with stage 4 thought to be the final design.

So here is how and where to unlock the Prisoner Skin Stage 4

THE PRISONER STAGE 4 LOCATION

A new location has been created by the recent earthquakes that have been hitting the map.

These started around Dusty Divot and eventually started forming cracks in the earth near the Tomato Temple.

Now, players need to head over to a hill found in the north-east area of the map, not far from the cliff edge.

The final Fortnite Prisoner stage 4 location can be found in the 2-I map coordinate, Which should be easy to spot from the air.

The new site comes complete with ritual firepots and stone slabs and doesn’t appear to warrant any huge tasks.

Players just need to make into the circle of pots and wait a moment, fires should spark up around, and you should have finally unlocked the stage 4 skin.

This final phase began on Saturday and should remain in place until the end of Season 7.

That means anyone who is trying to catch up and finish each stage should still have time to complete the final design.

There’s always the chance that Epic Games will have a secret stage 5 worked out for the final week.

However, so far there has been no evidence found by data miners to suggest Epic has something like that planned.

We should learn more about the Season 7 ending next week when a new update is released.

This will no doubt contain information on what new events might be coming, as the Prisoner appears to be part of it.

Many now refer to him as the Fire King and could be a big part of how the seasonal end event roles out.

Map changes are expected, and there have been hints that a fiery tornado could be unleashed on the map.

There have also been persistent rumours suggesting a volcano too and a massive biome change.

This would make sense as it is something that happened with the introduction of the Ice King during Season 7.

It’s been rumoured that the prisoner and the ice king will face off at the end of Fortnite season 7, resulting in a monster appearing from the deep.

Fortnite data miner @lucas7yoshi_ has uncovered in the update 7.40 files mention of a mysterious Kracken event.

The good news is that fans won’t have long to wait to find out what Epic Games has planned, as we edge closer to the finish line.

Fortnite season 8 could launch as soon as February 28, which is when Fortnite season 7 finishes.

Fortnite Prisoner stage 4 UPDATE: How to get ready for new skin reveal https://briefnews.eu/fortnite-prisoner-stage-4-update-how-to-get-ready-for-new-skin-reveal/ https://briefnews.eu/fortnite-prisoner-stage-4-update-how-to-get-ready-for-new-skin-reveal/#respond Thu, 14 Feb 2019 08:15:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/fortnite-prisoner-stage-4-update-how-to-get-ready-for-new-skin-reveal/

The Fortnite Prisoner skin is an Epic Games sidequest that can be unlocked by completing the Snowfall challenges.

These challenges are the secret battle stars and banners you might have heard Battle Pass users hunting for during Season 7.

Stage 4 of the Fortnite Prisoner is expected to unlock sometime this week, with fans hoping for something to happen today.

Thursdays have been the traditional time to check for news on what is happening next with the Snowfall Challenge, so things could be in motion by this afternoon.

And for those who are interested in unlocking the Fortnite Prisoner skin, there still could be time to complete the different stages.

Stage 1 involves completing all the challenges available to you until you have unlocked all the available secret battle stars and banners found in the game.

That means unlocking the Prisoner skin through completing 60 weekly challenges throughout Season 7.

It’s a hefty bit of work, but all the weekly cheat sheets and guides available online should make it an easier process.

Having unlocked the Prisoner skin, you can now start completing the next stages to put together his final design.

Stage 2 and 3 of the Prisoner skin can be unlocked by interacting with different objects on the Fortnite map.

It should be noted that you will need to equip the Prisoner skin when you visit these locations.

Polar Peak will be your first port of call, reach the castle and head inside until you find a room with a fireplace, desk, some bookshelves and chairs.

On the desk, you should find a key on top of an open book, which is the object you need to interact with.

Having done this task, you should then finish the match and will eventually see an unlock screen following completion.

The stage 3 key location for the Fortnite Prisoner skin can be found in Paradise Palms.

This will involve tracking down a campfire which you will then need to interact with.

The campfire you’re after is on one of the dusty mountains in the Paradise Palms area, within the I-7 map coordinate.

There have been reports that others interacting and using the campfire can mean missing out on the stage 3 unlock.

But when you do finally reach the right mountain and interact with the campfire, you should complete the match and have unlocked stage 3 of the Prisoner skin.

THE PRISONER STAGE 4

The Prisoner Stage 4 skin is expected to be released into the game today, February 14.

This will likely happen in the afternoon, following the release of the new Overtime Challenges.

Right now, we don’t know what fans will have to find on the map to complete the Prisoner skin.

The final design has been leaked and shows an evolved design based around the lava patterns on the character’s chest and hands.

This would suggest that fans will have to find some kind of hot object to induce the change; however, nothing has been confirmed yet.

But you can guarantee that fans will look to solve the quest as soon as they can later today.

There’s always the chance that some new event will be needed to unlock the Prisoner skin, but until we learn more about the clues, we’ll have to wait and see.

Judi Dench in hilarious ‘erection’ gaffe: People ‘walked off the stage in shock’ https://briefnews.eu/judi-dench-in-hilarious-erection-gaffe-people-walked-off-the-stage-in-shock/ https://briefnews.eu/judi-dench-in-hilarious-erection-gaffe-people-walked-off-the-stage-in-shock/#respond Fri, 25 Jan 2019 13:09:20 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/judi-dench-in-hilarious-erection-gaffe-people-walked-off-the-stage-in-shock/

The iconic actress was speaking on The Graham Norton Show – due to air tonight – about her new film All Is True when she recalled making an error during a performance of The Merchant Of Venice. The star singled out the play as her least favourite by the Bard, and it seems she has a bad memory to go along with it.

“I have never been fond of it,” she said. “Everyone in it behaves very badly.

“Against my will I did once play Portia the first year I was married and Mike [late husband Michael Williams] played Bassanio and I had a speech to him and I made a terrible, terrible mistake.

“Instead of saying, ‘I speak too long; but ’tis to peize the time, to eke it and to draw it out in length, to stay you from election’; I said ‘Erection’.

“The wind band that was about to play put down their instruments and walked off the stage in shock.

“It caused a lot of unrest!”

Discussing her new movie with Sir Kenneth Branagh, Dench said she needed next-to-no persuading to take the job.

“All the films I have done with Ken is the same story,” she explained.

“He just says, ‘I wonder if you would be interested…’ and I say ‘Yes’, and for this one I got a call from my agent to say Ken wanted to come down and talk to me about something, and I said, ‘Tell him not to come, I’ll do it.’”

Branagh interjected: “It is absolutely true. She said, ‘Don’t waste the petrol.’”

All Is True also stars Sir Ian McKellen, and tells the story of Shakespeare returning to his home in Stratford after the Globe Theatre burns down in 1613.

Branagh also directs, from a screenplay by Ben Elton.

All Is True is out on February 8. The Graham Norton Show airs tonight on BBC One.

Parents outraged after children hit the stage in KKK costumes in Arizona https://briefnews.eu/parents-outraged-after-children-hit-the-stage-in-kkk-costumes-in-arizona/ https://briefnews.eu/parents-outraged-after-children-hit-the-stage-in-kkk-costumes-in-arizona/#respond Tue, 11 Dec 2018 18:54:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/parents-outraged-after-children-hit-the-stage-in-kkk-costumes-in-arizona/ Parents are furious at an Arizona high school, after their kids dressed up in hooded Ku Klux Klan robes for a school play. But the school insists that it meant no harm, and that the play isn’t actually racist.

A high school play at the Arizona State University Preparatory Academy in Phoenix last Friday shocked parents, who saw their children appear on stage in full KKK regalia.

“Three students dressed as the KKK walked down the middle of the assembly as part of a play,” one parent told ABC15 Arizona, adding that “they were in hooded robes.”

However, if the parents had read the play – American playwright Larry Shue’s ‘The Foreigner,’ they would have known what to expect.

‘The Foreigner’ is a dark comedy, and a staple of amateur theater. In one of its climactic scenes, the heroes have to defend themselves against a Klan mob. The Klansmen are portrayed as buffoons, albeit dangerous and cunning ones. Eventually, they are made fun of and driven away.

Nevertheless, parents were still taken aback at the sight of their children in KKK robes.

“We can talk about racial prejudice, we can talk about the insensitivity, but to have our children put on the robes and assume the characters, it’s wrong,” one parent said. “There is no justification for it.”

The school stuck by its decision to put on the play, which was chosen by students themselves.

“We apologize if anyone was caught by surprise with the appearance of these characters. We are confident that a fair reading of the text of the play, and a fair interpretation of the intentions of students who performed it, reveals no endorsement of bigotry,” it said in a statement.

The angry parent wasn’t entirely convinced. “At least inform the parents, give us the ability to make that decision,” he said. “The KKK walked into my kid’s school Friday and I didn’t get to stop it.”

While displays of racial prejudice and bigotry are frowned upon in modern America, genuine critiques of racism can get caught in the crossfire.

Author Harper Lee’s 1960 classic ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ has been pulled from high school curriculums across the country for its “uncomfortable language.” Despite a core anti-racist message, Lee’s period-correct use of the n-word saw the book banned. Laura Ingalls Wilder’s ‘Little House on the Prairie’ series has met a similar fate, with Wilder’s name scrubbed from one book award earlier this year for her depictions of Native Americans.

Copa Libertadores: Football finally takes center stage as Boca & River prepare to meet in Madrid https://briefnews.eu/copa-libertadores-football-finally-takes-center-stage-as-boca-river-prepare-to-meet-in-madrid/ https://briefnews.eu/copa-libertadores-football-finally-takes-center-stage-as-boca-river-prepare-to-meet-in-madrid/#respond Sat, 08 Dec 2018 15:50:11 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/copa-libertadores-football-finally-takes-center-stage-as-boca-river-prepare-to-meet-in-madrid/

The 2018 Copa Libertadores will reach a conclusion on Sunday when River Plate and Boca Juniors meet in Madrid, capping one of the most acrimonious and farcical sagas in the history of football.

When the bitter Buenos Aires rivals advanced to the final of South America’s biggest club competition, setting up a first-ever Superclasico showdown at this stage in the competition’s history, fireworks were expected.

But few would have predicted it would be so explosive as to force the concluding leg of the tie to be played out 6,000 miles away from Buenos Aires, across the Atlantic in Madrid.

How we reached this point has already filled thousands upon thousands of column inches around the world.

Following the thrilling 2-2 draw in the first leg at Boca Junior’s La Bombonera stadium on November 11, the denouement was perfectly set for the return fixture at River Plate’s El Monumental home two weeks later.

That game never happened, after shocking scenes that saw River fans attack the bus carrying Boca players to the stadium, injuring several of them while leaving others exposed to police tear gas fired to disperse the baying crowds.

Amid a maelstrom of indecision, anger and farce, the game was first delayed and then postponed, before eventually being moved to a different continent by the South American football confederation, CONMEBOL.

It will now take place at Real Madrid’s iconic 80,000-seater Estadio Santiago Bernabeu home, which under any other circumstances would be a fine and fitting venue for one of football’s grandest occasions.

But while Boca Juniors and River Plate are both now in Madrid preparing for the game – followed by thousands of their endlessly loyal fans – neither team wants to be there.

Indeed, the contentious step to relocate the game has at least united them in one thing: opposition to CONMEBOL’s decision.

Boca officials have demanded that they be crowned champions automatically and that River be disqualified, an appeal which was rejected by CONMEBOL and later the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

River, meanwhile, have lamented the loss of home advantage, even if brought about by the hardcore element of the club’s own fans.

The blame game has reached far and wide – from the mayor of Buenos Aires accusing “mafia” elements of the River fan base from being behind the initial bus attack, to former Argentina and Boca legend Diego Maradona directly blaming the country’s president.

Meanwhile, one thing lost in the fog of tear gas and endless stream of invective is that a football game could finally, exhaustingly break out on Sunday.

And judging by the first leg, it could even be one worthy of the long and storied history of the competition it is played in.

That game back on November 11 saw Boca twice take the lead, only to be pegged back both times by a gutsy River team in an intense encounter that flowed from end to end.

When the two teams meet again on Sunday – almost a month later – we will finally see some football again.

Match details:

What time is the game?

The game kicks off at Real Madrid’s Bernabeu stadium on Sunday, December 9, at 19:30 GMT.

Ticketing

Fans from both clubs will be at the 80,000-seater Bernabeu, with 25,000 tickets allocated to each team, but only 5,000 on sale in Argentina.

Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi will also be in attendance as a special guest, although Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly declined an invitation.

Team news

For River Plate, striker Rafael Santos Borre is suspended and veteran forward Nacho Scocco is likely to miss out through a calf injury again, meaning Lucas Pratto will lead the line up front.

However, Marcelo Gallardo will have the boost of skipper Leonardo Ponzio returning to the base of midfield after recovering from the thigh strain that kept him out of the first leg.

For Boca, key winger Cristian Pavon, an Argentina international, will reportedly be fit to start after recovering from the muscle injury which forced him off in tears during the first leg.

Pablo Perez was a worry after suffering an eye injury in the bus attack that caused the postponement of the second leg, but is expected to be fit to start on Sunday on the left of midfield.

First-choice keeper Esteban Andrada is tipped to come in for Agustin Rossi after regaining fitness.

Head to head

The pair have met more than 200 times down the years in the Superclasico, with Boca ahead in the overall standings on 88 wins and River on 81.

Boca will be aiming for a lucky seventh Copa Libertadores title to put them level with fellow Argentine club Independiente on the all-time list, while River are out for a fourth title in all and first since 2015.

‘F that!’: Duma may allow musicians to shout obscenities from stage https://briefnews.eu/f-that-duma-may-allow-musicians-to-shout-obscenities-from-stage/ https://briefnews.eu/f-that-duma-may-allow-musicians-to-shout-obscenities-from-stage/#respond Tue, 04 Dec 2018 19:52:49 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/f-that-duma-may-allow-musicians-to-shout-obscenities-from-stage/

Musicians have every right to use obscenities for self-expression and must be allowed to swear from stage if their shows have proper age restrictions, the deputy head of the Russian Parliament’s information committee said.

“People go to concerts, already knowing what to expect there. They’re not going blindly. This is art. He (the artist) sees thing this way,” Andrey Svintsov from nationalist Liberal Democratic Party said about the use of foul language by some musicians.

“If you do not like it then just don’t go there. That’s it,” he added.

According to Russian laws, performers may face fines and other forms of administrative responsibility for employing obscenities during their shows.

But the MP believes the restrictions to be “absurd,” saying that musicians and concert organizers shouldn’t be punished at all.

The fines don’t stop any artists from swearing, but only “show the ignorance of those, who issues them,” he said.

However, Svintsov insisted that such obscene shows can only be visited by those above the age of 18, with relevant markings included in all of the promotional materials.
Foul language should be tackled within the family, but not through fines and restrictions, the deputy added.

In late November, a show of popular rap-artist Eljey was cancelled in Russia’s Far Eastern Republic of Yakutia. Earlier, one of the angry locals wrote a letter to Russian consumer watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, saying that “many Yakut residents were concerned by his questionable lyrics and his looks.” Eljey wears creepy contact lenses on stage and has his body covered in tattoos, while many of his songs contain obscenities and references to drugs.

In September, pop-singer Egor Creed had his sold-out gig called off in the southern Republic of Dagestan after the organizers said they couldn’t guarantee the safety of those attending. Creed faced death threats online as he was branded a “devil” and accused of promoting values unacceptable in Islam.

Hegerberg has played for Lyon since 2014 and helped the French side to three successive Champions League crowns.

The Norway international was named the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year in 2017 and added to her growing list of personal honours tonight.

Hegerberg was voted the Women’s Footballer of the Year at the Balon d’Or awards in Paris tonight.

In a short speech, Hegerberg said: “I want to ask every young woman to believe in themselves.”

But her night turned uneasy after the award’s presenter – Martin Solveig – asked if she would twerk on stage.

She immediately said “non” and walked off stage, leaving PSG and France star Kylian Mbappe shocked.

Asked about the comment after the ceremony, Hegerberg said: “He came to me afterwards and was really sad that it went that way. I didn’t really think about it at the time to be honest.

“I didn’t really consider it a sexual harassment or anything in the moment.

“I was just happy to do the dance and win the Ballon d’Or to be honest. I will have a glass of champagne when I get back, yes.”

Discussing the award, she said: “Being historical and the first woman to win the Ballon d’Or is a huge moment in my life. It felt right to have my teammates with me.

“It is a fantastic team with great characters. I have been at Lyon for four and a half years and it is a special mentality. We live and breathe football and I cherish it.

“It is a fantastic day for women’s football. It is historical and it is important to show young girls that they can believe in themselves and I hope they are inspired by this. They are the future.

“I cherish all awards as they are the result of hard work and self belief but the Ballon d’or is historical. Standing here today is the biggest moment of my life.”

Hegerberg started her career at Sunndal in Norway.

The 23-year-old made her professional debut for Kolbotn in 2010 and played for Stabæk and Potsdam before moving to Lyon.

The striker made her international debut back in 2011 but has been on a break for Norway duty since 2017.

She boasts 66 international appearances for her country, scoring 38 goals.

Solveig, 42, boasts four studio albums.

He has never had a No 1 record in France.

Fans on Twitter were quick to pick up on the DJ’s lurid request.

“Martin Solveig is an absolute disgrace,” one fan wrote.

Another put: “Martin Solveig end of Career, loser…”

A third said: “RIP Martin Solveig’s career.”

And a fourth wrote: “It’s a massive shame Ada Hegerberg wins the first women’s Ballon d’Or and it’s darkened by misogyny. I hope this marks the end of Martin Solveig the utter sleazebag. #ballondor”

In the aftermath of the incident, Solveig’s Wikipedia page was altered to read: “He is also breathtakingly sexist and very lucky not to have been kicked square in the balls by Ada Hegerberg.”
