The attacker was heard shouting gibberish before charging his kid with a knife in a common area of the Oak Forest Apartments on Sunday, Lewisville police department said after interviewing witnesses to the horrific incident.

“The information we have is that the suspect came out of the apartment carrying the child, and he was yelling some very loud, random things about religion and ‘Jesus is coming,’” police Captain Jesse Hunter said.

Moments later, the man placed his son on the ground and stabbed him multiple times with a small knife. One of the neighbors, who is yet to be identified, rushed to the child’s rescue, unloading three shots from his balcony. He managed to hit the attacker in his leg, “effectively ending the assault on the child,” Hunter said, noting that the tragedy was “probably the worst in my 20 years” in the police force.

Both the man and the child were rushed to the hospital, where the boy soon succumbed to his injuries. The 27-year-old father, whose name has not yet been released, was arrested after receiving medical treatment. He was booked into Lewisville city jail Monday afternoon.

Authorities are yet to charge the assailant, pending his toxicology results. The police investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities are still trying to piece together the motive for the attack, which occurred while the child’s mother was at work. According to police, the family had no prior history with law enforcement or Child Protective Services. The person who opened fire to stop the attack will not face charges.

The man assaulted three refugees from Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria outside a church in the western German town of Heilbronn on Saturday evening, local police said in a statement. All three men were injured, and a 25-year-old Iraqi was taken to hospital with severe injuries. The assailant was overpowered by a passerby, who restrained him until police arrived.

The 70-year old was “heavily intoxicated” at the time of the attack, the Heilbronn Prosecutor’s Office and the police said in a joint statement on February 18. They also noted that the perpetrator had a clean criminal record and was “previously unknown to the police.”

The incident is currently being treated as an “aggravated assault,” according to another joint statement that was issued on February 20. It added, however, that the case could be reclassified as “attempted murder.”

The suspect said during the questioning that he wanted to “send a signal against the current refugee policy,” the law enforcement agencies said. However, the man was released from custody as it is was considered unlikely that he would flee, hide or repeat the offense, Bettina Joerg, a spokeswoman of the Heilbronn Prosecutor’s Office said, as reported by local media.

Local officials reacted swiftly, voicing their unease at the situation. “I am deeply troubled by this revolting crime and my thoughts are with the victims. I hope they won’t suffer lasting consequences,”said Harry Mergel, Heilbronn’s mayor. “I call on people to treat refugees with humanity and be prepared to help them.”

Attacks on refugees are not uncommon in Heilbronn, a town of 123,000 people. Susanne Bay, a member of the regional parliament, told the newspaper that unknown perpetrators recently slashed the tires of a refugee family’s bicycles. In a separate case, Bay said, someone had sprayed a swastika on the family’s house.

Media have reported a drastic rise in hate-motivated crimes against refugees. In 2016, 921 attacks on refugee centers were reported, of which 857 had a suspected far-right background, German criminal police office (BKA) said in response to a request for information filed by Die Welt daily.

An appalling fatal attack on a young immigrant barber in broad daylight in Moscow was captured on film and uploaded online, causing outrage. The attacker, reportedly a dissatisfied customer who paid around $ 3.50 for the haircut, has since been detained.

The story was initially shared by State Duma MP Anton Belyakov on his Facebook page. Belyakov says that one of his friends knew the victim and characterized him as a very skillful barber. 

The account describes the victim, known as ‘Danya’ among colleagues, as an unassuming young man from the central Asian Republic of Uzbekistan. Media reports have identified him as 24-year-old Dastan Adekhanov.

Belyakov wrote that the conflict began after Adekhanov gave a male client a haircut, charging him 200 rubles ($ 3.49) on Thursday – a low price by Moscow standards.

The client was apparently dissatisfied and came back to complain on Friday.

“He [the client] said that he looked in the mirror and didn’t like his haircut,” Belyakov said.

The barbershop staff attempted to resolve the situation and improve his haircut, but the client did not like any of the options.

Instead of asking for his money back, the man suddenly dragged Dastan into the street.

Footage of the attack, uploaded by Belyakov to Facebook and YouTube, shows a young man in a black jacket being chased by a man in yellow T-shirt with what appears to be a long sharp object in his hand, reportedly a skewer. The attacker appears to stab the young man several times while onlookers stop to watch but do not intervene.

The man then walks away, leaving the victim in agony, and turns to walk back moments later to check on him. Moments later, the young man collapses and remains motionless. He reportedly died before an ambulance arrived.

While the authenticity of the video has not yet been verified, it has been partly confirmed by investigators. Russia’s Investigative Committee said in a statement on its website that a criminal case has been opened against a 26-year-old man who has been charged with murder. The statement, which did not disclose the names but said the victim was a 24-year-old man, said the attacker has been arrested and has confessed.

A police source told TASS on Sunday that the attacker was an unemployed resident of Russia’s Kirov Region.

Belyakov’s post and media reports that followed caused outrage online in Russia, with many condemning the suspected murderer and wondering why passersby did not intervene. Belyakov titled the video ‘On thugs and gastarbeiters [migrant workers]. A murder for 200 rubles.’

A medium performing a ritual dance in Thailand has reportedly died after accidentally stabbing himself in the heart in front of shocked onlookers.

Theprit Palee died on Monday in the village of Ban Pa Sak while carrying out a folk dance involving a metal sword, reports Sanook.

Dressed in brightly-colored clothing, Palee pointed the weapon towards himself before plunging it into his chest.

The ritual is normally meant to result in the sword bending. However, it appears that something went terribly wrong with Palee receiving fatal injuries.

According to local Thai reports, the 25 year old was carrying out a traditional ‘Fon Pee Mot’ ritual which honors people in the afterlife.

Images have since emerged online of Palee collapsed on the ground surrounded by people in the moments after his performance.

It’s understood that Palee had been carrying out the routine successfully for at least six years.
