If anyone was expecting to see Spotify’s growth tail off, then the company’s latest earnings report is chock full of disappointment. The streaming service has managed to increase the number of paying subscribers to 87 million, up from 83 million three months ago. More broadly, the platform has seen its total user numbers rise to 191 million, up from 101 million in the summer. The increased numbers haven’t led to an actual profit, but losses are way, way down, from €90 million ($ 102 million) in Q2, to just €6 million ($ 6.8 million) now.

Spotify is feeling pretty bullish about its future, pointing out that it is seeing the number of people quitting the platform going down. It’s also expanding its footprint with deals like the one it now has with Samsung that sees Spotify becoming the default music app. Plus, in the UK, an agreement with pay-TV outfit Sky will see users be able to pay for the streaming service as part of their TV bill. Not to mention that a $ 4.99 a month bundle deal, in partnership with Hulu and Showtime, is going down well with students.

This is the first time that Spotify has opened up about its new system for allowing indie artists and labels to submit tracks for playlisting. According to the company, more than 67,000 artists and labels have uploaded content, and more than 10,000 of them were selected for inclusion on Spotify playlists. It will also expect to throw money at podcasters to grow its brand in the spoken-word space following a deal with Joe Budden.

For the fourth quarter, Spotify is hoping to see total user figures reach as high as 206 million, with paid subscribers up to 96 million. Profits, however, may still be scarce — and moreso now that the company is giving away Google Home Mini speakers to all of its family plan customers. But those blips aside, it looks as if Spotify isn’t going to be cowed by the threat of other, wealthier streaming services on the scene.

As expected, has officially returned to Roku’s streaming platform. The music streaming app will be available on most Roku players and TVs running Roku OS 8.2 or higher. Access to the service starts today and will roll out to all supported device by the end of the year, according to Roku.

When using Spotify on Roku, you’ll be able to search albums and playlists and browse music recommendations right from your Roku device of choice. The app can be controlled using the Roku remote or via Spotify Connect, which allows you to navigate the app using a computer or mobile device.

In addition to running on Roku TV models running Roku OS 8.2 and higher, streaming player models 3600 and above will also get the app. Roku devices check for new software every 24 to 36 hours, though users can manually check for updates if you’re feeling impatient. To do so, open Settings > System > System update > Check now. Roku OS 8.2 is already available for Roku TVs and will roll out in the coming weeks for Roku players.

Spotify used to be available on Roku’s platform but disappeared last year because of technical issues. Last month, Roku promised the streaming music service would come back to its platform. The company revealed the imminent return in the release notes for Roku OS 9 earlier this month but made it official today.

Spotify first made its way to Roku back in 2012, but it pulled its support for the platform in late 2017 due to various technical issues. Roku promised that the service will come back to its devices with OS 9’s launch, though, and that’s exactly what’s happening now that the software upgrade has started rolling out to the company’s streaming devices.

According to Roku’s OS 9 release notes, the service will soon be available to the select devices that are getting the updated platform. The update will even give you the power to control Spotify via the Roku remote or via Spotify Connect on a laptop, tablet or phone. While OS 9 won’t be be available for Roku TV models until 2019, you’ll still be able to install Spotify on a Roku TV running OS 8.2 by adding it from the company’s channel store.

Aside from bringing back Spotify to the platform, OS 9 also introduces Automatic Volume Leveling, which ensures a uniform audio level across programs and all types of content. No more startlingly loud sounds when a commercial comes on or when you switch streaming channels. In the US, select Roku players will also let you control iHeartRadio, Pandora and TuneIn using voice commands. The company has listed all the devices getting the major update on its website, so check it out if you have an older model and aren’t sure if you’re going to be part of the rollout.

Wear OS gains a popular new app today that many have been waiting for, as Spotify announced that it’s bringing a stand-alone wearable app to Google’s smartwatch platform.

Spotify’s stand-alone app lets you browse and control music from your wrist. It seems to be a lighter version of Spotify’s mobile app, allowing you to browse your tracks and playlists and quickly save songs to your library. You can also control playback from your wrist—it appears similar to Wear OS’ native music controls, just built into a dedicated Spotify app.

The Wear OS app also integrates with Spotify Connect, the company’s method of connecting and controlling playback on Bluetooth devices. Now from your wrist, you can manage connections between Bluetooth speakers, laptops, and other devices and quickly change the playback source.

Spotify has removed episodes of InfoWars host Alex Jones’ podcast from its streaming service, according to multiple reports. The music streaming company deleted an unspecified number of The Alex Jones Show episodes for violating its hate content policy.

“We take reports of hate content seriously and review any podcast episode or song that is flagged by our community,” Spotify said in a statement to Billboard. “Spotify can confirm it has removed specific episodes of The Alex Jones Show podcast for violating our hate content policy.”

It’s unclear what speech specifically got those episodes removed from Spotify, and it’s unclear which episodes were deleted. Nevertheless, The Alex Jones Show still appears on Spotify with more than one year’s worth of episodes still available for streaming.

Last week, Drake smashed the single-day record for total number of album streams on Spotify with the release of his new record Scorpion, but the artist had some help in making that happen. Spotify placed Drake prominently on its playlists, effectively allowing the artist to “take over” the music service over the weekend. While Drake fans were likely pleased, others weren’t exactly thrilled about this turn of events. Some premium subscribers even went as far to demand refunds from Spotify for the service’s placement of advertisements on accounts that are supposed to be ad-free.

Billboard reports that disgruntled fans have been requesting refunds from the service. Some have met with success; a few of those who were denied have gone as far as to cancel their accounts. Spotify told Billboard that complaints were minimal and as a result, there is no official refunds policy for this promotion.

Many of Spotify’s users rely on the service’s curation for the playlists they listen to. The more you listen to on Spotify, the better your recommendations and playlists become. The question is whether it’s appropriate for the service to introduce this kind of blatant marketing into its playlists, allowing the promotion to override users’ preferences. It’s the first one that Spotify has ever done, and the service will likely be thinking hard about whether to repeat the effort.
