With Mary Poppins Returns heading to theaters next month, you might think that it’s a no-brainer that the original film’s star Julie Andrews would be making some kind of appearance in the Disney sequel. However, the actress has already confirmed she didn’t want to take away from Emily Blunt inheriting the role of the magical nanny, so she’s not popping up in Mary Poppins Returns. Instead, another major December release has been graced with the talents of Julie Andrews.

Aquaman has been completely finished for a little while now, with reactions from early screenings already hitting the web and other early screenings planned one week before the film officially hits theaters everywhere. But we’re only just now hearing that Julie Andrews is lending her voice to a certain character in the DC Comics adaptation.

Entertainment Weekly found out the Sound of Music star would be voicing a mythical undersea creature known as the Karathen. The character who holds the key to helping Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) broker peace between Atlantis and the surface world.

Julie Andrews hasn’t appeared in a live-action movie since The Tooth Fairy back in 2010. However, she has lent her voice to the Despicable Me franchise as Gru’s mother, as well as the Queen mother of Princess Fiona in the Shrek franchise. But this is the first time her voice has been lent to a major live-action blockbuster in over a decade. She previously voiced the narrator in Disney’s Enchanted.

So how did we get the voice of Julie Andrews in Aquaman? Producer Peter Safran explains:

“We wanted the Karathen to have the voice of a classic British actress, albeit somewhat digitally altered. And when we found out Julie was interested and available and excited to do it, casting her was a no-brainer. Who knew that Aquaman would have the real Mary Poppins this Christmas?”

Aquaman will be opening in theaters on December 21, 2018, just a couple days before Mary Poppins Returns arrives in time for Christmas. But you’ll be able to catch it a week earlier if you have an Amazon Prime membership. Which one will top the box office during the Christmas holiday weekend? Early projections have Aquaman with an edge over Mary Poppins Returns, but we won’t know for sure until the movies hit theaters.

We knew that the great Sherman Brothers wrote some classics but the breathtaking breadth of their truly great songbook is both a wonder and a wondrous break from weary reality.

A Spoonful of Sherman really can make any modern medicine life hands us go down – and this musical does it in the most delightful way.

The Sherman brothers composed some of the greatest music in movie history during the golden era of Disney animation and live action.

Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman wrote an extraordinary array of all-time classics from A Spoonful of Sugar, The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers, Feed the Birds, Chim-Chim-Cheree, I wanna be like you and Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang.

You could almost say they were Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

A thrilling new musical uniting all of these great tunes and many more will tour the UK throughout March, April and May this year.

The highly prolific brothers were the sons of the great Al Sherman (1897-1973) who wrote songs for the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and many singers of the golden American Songbook period of the 1930s-1950s.

They found their own fame under the patronage of the great Walt Disney himself, writing some of the most memorable songs from some of his created movies.

In a truly magical end to the story, the new show has been created by Robert J Sherman, son of Robert B Sherman and a successful composer in his own right. His latest musical, Love Birds, premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015.

A Spoonful of Sherman also boasts boy band star, musician and songwriter MARK READ, who was member of the smash hit number one boyband A1.

His leading lady is Olivier Award nominated SOPHIE-LOUISE DANN whose West End credits include Celia in The Girls, Bend it Like Beckham, Made In Dagenham, Lend Me a Tenor, 42nd Street, and Jolson.

The show opened this week in Darlington and will wrap up on May 18 in Exeter, including a five-day run in London.

Making a sequel to Mary Poppins over 50 years after the original film charmed audiences all over the world and quickly established itself as an instant classic that maintains all of its magic and charm in 2017 sounds like a terrible idea on paper…but it’s hard not to be completely won over by the thought of Emily Blunt stepping in for the great Julie Andrews and Hamilton maestro Lin-Manuel Miranda lending his talents as her co-star.

And now, a bunch of new photos from Mary Poppins Returns have debuted online, offering our first good look at Rob Marshall‘s upcoming musical.

The images were revealed by Entertainment Weekly and they show off not only Blunt as the ageless, magical, “practically perfect in every way” nanny and Miranda as Jack, a London lamplighter and the protege of Dick Van Dyke’s Bert from the original movie, but the rest of the Banks family, too. There’s Ben Whishaw as the grown-up Michael Banks, now working as a banker and artist, and Emily Mortimer as the adult Jane Banks, following in her suffragette mother’s footsteps by working as a union organizer. New to this world are Michael’s children, Annabel (Pixie Davies), Georgie (Joel Dawson), and John (Nathanael Saleh), who see Mary Poppins come into their lives following a tragedy.

And speaking of that tragedy, Entertainment Weekly also offered the most comprehensive description of what this movie is actually about yet:

Mary Poppins Returns, directed by Rob Marshall (Into the Woods), picks up 25 years after the events of the first film, fast-forwarding to London’s mid-1930s economic slump, the actual time period of Travers’ books. Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane has become the warm, loving home that banker and artist Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) shares with his wife and three children. But after the sudden death of Michael’s wife, the Banks family is shattered — even enthusiastic aunt Jane (Emily Mortimer), now a fervent union organizer, and long-time housemaid Ellen (Julie Walters) can’t help lift spirits — and so in time, the once-blossoming home is on the verge of foreclosure.

Cue the arrival of prim and peculiar Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt), who leads Michael’s wayward children (and Jane and Michael themselves) on a series of unbelievable adventures — to the top of Big Ben, the bottom of the ocean, into magical encounters with animated dancing penguins and upside-down cousins (hey, Meryl Streep!). If anyone can help this family find the light they’ve lost, it’s Mary Poppins.

Rob Marshall has directed movies I’ve loved (Chicago) and movies I’ve, well, not loved (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), but I have a good feeling about this one. He may very well have the proper sensibility to bring Mary Poppins back in the fashion she deserves. At the very least, the cast he’s assembled will go a long way to recapturing the magic that makes the original the best live-action movie Walt Disney ever made. And new songs from Hairspray‘s Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman certainly won’t hurt.
