The two men named by the UK as suspects in the poisoning of double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia – Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov – are not linked to the Kremlin or the Russian President Vladimir Putin in any way, the president’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told journalists. Putin earlier commented on the men that London has accused of being Russian agents, saying that Moscow knows who they are and that they are civilians. Peskov said he believes the allegations against Moscow will never be confirmed: “The British foreign minister [Boris Johnson], who accused President Putin, and the British Prime Minister [Theresa May], will have to somehow look in their European Union colleagues’ eye, after what they had told them,” Peskov said.

“Somehow, they will have to make apologies to the Russian side,” he said. “But of course, it’s still a long way off, and this idiocy has gone too far.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, said he was looking forward to the upcoming emergency session of the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), hoping it will put the Skripal case to rest.

“We have prepared at least 20 questions for discussion. We hope that this discussion will put an end to this issue,” Putin told journalists in Ankara, where he was holding a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Hamas is, consequently, the one with the ability to rein in the violence, by demanding that its supporters stay clear of the border fence, Keys argued.

“The real tragedy is that it can stop now. There doesn’t need to be any bloodshed, there doesn’t need to be any killings, there doesn’t need to be any injured. All Hamas has to do is to say: ‘Stay away from the security fence, don’t try to infiltrate Israel’ – and all of it can stop immediately.”

Keys called on the international community to get behind Israel and pressure Hamas to stop what Tel Aviv considers a campaign of incitement.

“The whole world should be asking Hamas: ‘Why aren’t you telling your people to stop this outrage, why do you continue to wage war against Israel?’ Because the second Hamas says that, all of this can stop,” he said.

Ahead of Land Day, which marks a start of the planned six weeks of Palestinian protests, the Israeli Defense Forces dropped leaflets on Gaza villages, cautioning them against coming closer than 300 meters (985 feet) from the security installations. “Whoever comes near will put himself at risk,” the leaflets read.

Reiterating the official Israeli justification for what several Muslim countries have condemned as the use of disproportionate force against protesters, Keys claimed that protesters planted bombs “right in front of the fence,” adding they were “shooting rockets and guns at Israelis.”

“If this was a peaceful protest, there would be no problem whatsoever. But attempts to swarm into Israel and overrun it with thousands of people are not great,” he added.  

When asked by RT to provide a specific example of the abovementioned offenses, since footage from the clashes seems to mostly show people throwing stones rather than rockets, Key referred to the IDF web page.

“There have been many attacks, the exact numbers are still being investigated,” he said, adding that those interested should go and watch for themselves.

Keys refused the idea that the spike in tensions might have been provoked by US President Donald Trump’ controversial decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital on December 6. The move sparked a wave of protests in Palestine that were echoed across the Arab and Muslim world, which decried it as a blow to an already stalled peace process.

“I think what has been causing the tension has been the denial of the fact that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital, not the recognition of a historical fact that stretches back 3,000 years,” Keys argued, saying Trump’s decision “is a wonderful move for peace, this is a wonderful move for justice, it’s a wonderful move for history.”

Media outlets based in the US and Britain have long enjoyed dominance in the global news market and have abused their position to manipulate audiences, a Kremlin spokesman told RT in an exclusive interview.

Russia is currently being targeted by an unprecedented campaign in the West, aimed at undermining its resurgence, Dmitry Peskov told RT’s Sophie Shevardnadze. The media are playing a major part in it, as they are selling an anti-Russian narrative to the people of Western nations. But what those outlets do is a disservice to their audiences, he argued.

“People are naked against these media wars. They are victims of these media wars,” he said. “They are being… driven into a certain way of emotions without even understanding that.”

Peskov said that for decades “Anglo-Saxon media” enjoyed a virtual global monopoly on delivering news about economy and politics. “They are the most powerful, the most influential, and they have the widest possible reach globally,” he said. “And, of course, this feeling of monopoly brings a will to manipulate this monopoly. You can use this monopoly as a tool of delivering your point of view, whether it’s right or wrong, it doesn’t matter, you can adjust it in accordance with the situation – to simply manipulate the [minds] of people throughout the world.”

He added that outlets like RT challenge this “huge machine” with alternative narratives and facts that don’t fit into how the Western media wants the world to see things. A good example of this is coverage of events in Syria and Iraq, Peskov said. Western media were all too eager to highlight civilian casualties of the operation in Aleppo, which they blame solely on Russian and Syrian forces, but failed to extend this kind of reporting to similar operations in Mosul and Raqqa, where the US-led coalition was in charge.

With Russia on the rise, America and the West are feeling more and more uncomfortable, Kremlin spokesman told RT in an exclusive interview. He added that Moscow and Washington use more Cold War rhetoric in their relations now.

President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he recognized the tell-tale signs of the Cold War, which in turn were regrettably reflected in Russia’s agenda. “We’re facing it in the international relationship,” Peskov said, speaking to RT’s Sophie Shevardnadze.

The press-secretary also pointed out that Russia had no motive to target Skripal, who was found unconscious with his daughter in Salisbury earlier in March. Britain is accusing Russia of poisoning them with a Soviet-era nerve agent.

“He was handed in to Britain as a result of an exchange. So, why should Russia hand in a man that is of any importance or that is of any value? It’s unimaginable. If he’s handed in – so Russia quits with him. He’s of zero value or zero importance,” Peskov said, referring to a “spy swap” in which Russia released four British spies, including Skripal, in exchange for 10 Russian agents. He also said that Skripal should be called “British spy” as he worked for the MI6 intelligence agency. “He is a Russian citizen, but he is not a Russian spy,” he said.

Peskov also said that the UK authorities were too hasty in blaming Russia without carrying out any investigation into the attack. “The first accusations came from politicians just a couple of hours after the accident… that ‘highly likely, Russia was responsible of that attempt of murder.’ And now we see the words of experts… from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons that say that the preliminary examination of this agent will take about three weeks. Is it contradictory? Yes, it is.”

He cited Putin, who said on the matter “we are not as crazy as to even to think about something of that kind [poisoning Skripal] before a presidential election [on March 18] and before such an important global event as the football championship [in summer].”

RT persecuted for threatening US, UK global ‘brainwash monopoly’

The crackdown on RT in the US and UK is a response to the broadcaster becoming a worthy rival to the British and American media’s global brainwash monopoly, Peskov said.

British and American media have started to “rule the word” in recent decades, Peskov said. “They are the most powerful; they are the most influential and they have the widest possible reach globally. And, of course, this feeling of monopoly, it brings a will to manipulate this monopoly.”

Washington and London have been using this media monopoly as a “tool” to deliver their point of view “whether it’s right or wrong – it doesn’t matter, you can adjust it in accordance with the situation – to simply manipulate the brains of people throughout the world,” he said.

“And this is why they strongly oppose the appearance of any rivals, even small rivals like RT – in comparison with this huge machine,” Peskov said. He specified that he meant no disrespect by calling RT “small,” jokingly adding that: “I sincerely believe that size doesn’t matter here.”

“You can be small, but you can do much more influential things. That is what you (RT) are doing. And that what makes them nervous because you are pretending to be a rival for them and this rivalry can ruin the system of brainwash,” the presidential press-secretary explained.

RT and Sputnik news agency were forced to register as foreign agents in the US last year. British MPs have also called for RT to have its UK broadcasting license revoked after the poisoning of double agent Sergei Skripal in Salisbury in early March, which London blames on Moscow.

  • President Donald Trump’s legal team’s former spokesman, Mark Corallo, plans to tell special counsel Robert Mueller that a key White House aide may have sought to obstruct justice last year.
  • Corallo reportedly spoke to White House communications director Hope Hicks on a conference call with Trump last year, during which Corallo said Hicks may have hinted at concealing crucial emails that are relevant to the Russia probe.
  • The emails related to a June 2016 Trump Tower meeting, between several Russia-linked individuals and members of the Trump campaign, that is being heavily scrutinized by Mueller and congressional investigators.

Mark Corallo, the former spokesman for President Donald Trump’s legal team, plans to tell special counsel Robert Mueller that White House communications director Hope Hicks may have hinted at concealing crucial emails that were exchanged prior to Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting in June 2016 with a Kremlin-connected lawyer, The New York Times reported. 

Corallo was contacted by the special counsel’s team last week for an interview, as Business Insider previously reported. The interview is set to take place sometime in the next two weeks.

“There is no other word one can use but ‘racist,’” a spokesman for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights said, as quoted by Reuters.

“You cannot dismiss entire countries and continents as ‘s***holes,’ whose entire populations, who are not white, are therefore not welcome,” the spokesman said.“This isn’t just a story about vulgar language, it’s about opening the door to humanity’s worst side, about validating and encouraging racism and xenophobia.“

It comes after the Washington Post reported on Thursday that Trump had asked: “Why are we having all these people from s***hole countries come here?”

He was reportedly referring to people from Haiti, El Salvador and some African countries during a discussion about protecting people from those nations as part of a bipartisan immigration deal. The president then said the US should take in more people from places like Norway, the Post reported, citing sources.

It didn’t take long for people across the globe to criticize Trump’s alleged remarks as being racist, including several Democratic lawmakers.

Speaking to MSNBC following the report, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said Trump’s comments “smack of blatant racism – odious and insidious racism masquerading poorly as immigration policy.” He added that Trump “does not speak for me as an American.”
