  • Older movies like "Top Gun" and "Spider-Man" beat some newer releases this Labor Day weekend.
  • A re-release of "Jaws" also appeared in the top 10 during a typically slow holiday weekend.
  • Theaters saw a bump in attendance after selling heavily discounted tickets to lure in moviegoers.

"Top Gun: Maverick" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home," movies that were first released months ago, scored wins at the box office this Labor Day weekend, bolstered by a $ 3 ticket promotional deal meant to lure in moviegoers during a historically quiet weekend.

As of Monday morning, "Top Gun: Maverick," first released in May, topped the charts, grossing an estimated $ 7.9 million from Friday through Monday, Deadline reported. "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which originally came out in December 2021, was re-released as an extended cut. It came in third at the box office behind "Bullet Train," grossing $ 6.6 million over the 4-day period, according to data compiled by The Hollywood Reporter.

"Spider-Man" was initially projected to top the charts for the weekend but dropped to third as studios reported more data.

Another re-release success story from the weekend was "Jaws," which earned just over $ 3 million for the 4 days. "Jaws" first opened in theaters in 1975.

Movie attendance spiked over the weekend, bolstered by the industry's first "National Cinema Day," a one-day event that featured heavily discounted tickets at more than 3,000 movie theaters across the US. The $ 3 deal helped movie theaters break an attendance record for 2022, drawing in 8.1 million moviegoers.

Still, with few new movies at this point in the summer, industry insiders said the weekend was largely an opportunity for theaters to show previews of future releases to customers.

"August and September is typically a slow time," John Fithian, head of the theatre association, told Insider. "But people miss that there are good movies coming out in the fall. We have a lot of good stuff coming."

What’s new in Spider-Man: No Way Home’s More Fun Stuff Version https://briefnews.eu/whats-new-in-spider-man-no-way-homes-more-fun-stuff-version/ https://briefnews.eu/whats-new-in-spider-man-no-way-homes-more-fun-stuff-version/#respond Sat, 03 Sep 2022 03:19:17 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/whats-new-in-spider-man-no-way-homes-more-fun-stuff-version/ Spider-Man: No Way Home has swung back into theaters with the release of its extended cut, “The More Fun Stuff Version.” Featuring 11 minutes of extra content, this longer film is a treat for audiences who enjoyed the original superhero blockbuster.

Overall, the movie’s additional footage doesn’t add any crucial details to the plot, as it’s mainly bits of comedy sprinkled into the mix for the audience’s enjoyment. Despite that, “The More Fun Stuff Version” makes for a fun cinematic experience that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will want to see. For those considering seeing this new edition of the film, here’s a list of notable changes audiences will want to look out for in theaters. Obviously, the following contains spoilers, but you wouldn’t be here if you didn’t know that, right?

Opening Chat

Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland, and Tobey Magure behind the scenes of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Audiences are immediately presented with new content before this film even begins. Before the studio logos appear in the movie’s opening, Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield show up on-screen in a Zoom recording to address the audience. Their conversation ends with Tom and Tobey telling Andrew they love him as a delayed reply to his character’s declaration of love in the film. Andrew even jokes that he had waited months for them to say it to him, making for a terrific moment for the three Web-Heads.

The Awkward Elevator Ride

spider-man-no-way-home-elevator-scene

In this brief moment, audiences see Peter and May riding an elevator up to Happy’s apartment with Norman, Otto, Max, and Flint. It’s not a particularly impactful scene, but it’s funny, nevertheless. The fact that all these strange and superpowered beings (plus Aunt May) wait in uncomfortable silence together makes them much more relatable, encapsulating the MCU’s comedic marriage between the peculiar and the mundane.

More Peter Interactions

spider-man-no-way-home-peter-two-statue-of-liberty

Fans couldn’t get enough of all three Spider-Men interacting with each other on-screen in No Way Home. In the film’s longer cut, they are shown at the Statue of Liberty talking more about Tobey’s organic web-shooters work, with Andrew’s web-slinger saying that he wants to see the holes in the former’s arms. They also discuss all the fantastical events in their lives, such as fighting aliens, and how they consider them normal in their lives as superheroes.

Back to School

spider-man-no-way-home-peter-walking-to-school

Following the revelation that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, audiences see more of how that affects his life at school now that everyone sees him as a superpowered celebrity. For example, they all chant for him to climb up the walls in the school gym. Betty Brant also interviews Peter’s teachers and friends about him, with Flash and Mr. Harrington lying about their relationships with him and Betty having an awkward conversation with her ex-boyfriend, Ned. Betty even interviews Peter himself, asking a ridiculous question about what he would say to the spider who bit him.

Stopping a Robbery

Tom Holland's Spider-man poses unmasked, preparing to fight the Green Goblin.

Tom Holland’s younger brother, Harry, had appeared in the film as a robber in one scene that was removed from the original cut, and audiences now get to see how it played out. After Peter strings up the burglar with his web, Peter gets into a hilarious argument with a few bystanders who argue over whether or not he was old enough to fight crime and if he was in cahoots with the robber. After the criminal in question lies about working with Spider-Man, one of Mysterio’s fanatics throws green paint on the web-slinger as a form of protest.

The Monster Mash

spider-man-no-way-home-peter-ned-mj-undercroft

A new montage is included in the film that shows Peter, MJ, and Ned setting up their workspace in the Undercroft to search for more villains from other universes, with Ned hilariously making a mess of everything. This comedic scene plays to the sound of “Monster Mash,” which perfectly fits its strange and mystical setting. It is also made even more bizarre when MJ finds a model of the Sanctum Sanctorum with a tiny Doctor Strange moving around inside.

Happy and Daredevil

spider-man-no-way-home-daredevil

Aside from the other Spider-Men and the film’s villains, one of the film’s beloved guest stars was Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock (a.k.a. Daredevil). He appeared early in the film defending Peter as his lawyer, but in the original film, he only had one scene. In the new version, Murdock is also seen with Happy Hogan talking to Damage Control. Though it appears Happy is in the clear regarding his connection to the Stark drone attack in London, he gets a video on his phone showing Peter and May entering his apartment with the villains they’re trying to cure. Of course, Happy gets sweaty as he’s dragged right back into the fire.

More Damage Control

spider-man-no-way-home-peter-damage-control

This film’s extended cut also features a longer version of Peter’s interrogation by Damage Control. Digging more into Peter’s past as Spider-Man, one of his interrogators asks him what he knows about “Night Monkey,” the fake persona Peter adopted while wearing his black suit in Far From Home. In the end, one Damage Control worker suggests that Peter’s greatest enemy is historical landmarks, which seems to be Marvel Studios making fun of itself over how they have all of Spidey’s greatest battles occur in places like the Washington Monument and the London Bridge. This is made even funnier when considering that the film’s explosive climax takes place at the Statue of Liberty. And speaking of which…

The New Statue of Liberty

spider-man-no-way-home-statue-of-liberty

One notable change in the MCU came in the form of the giant replica of Captain America’s shield outfitted onto the Statue of Liberty. The new version of the film focuses more on this remodeling of the iconic landmark, with Midtown High even having students make their own models of what they think the statue should look like. This includes an unnerving shot of a student presenting his model of the statue as Mysterio, clearly showing that he’s another one of Quentin Beck’s zealous followers.

A Second Post-Credits Scene

Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Fans have wondered precisely how Doctor Strange’s spell wipes all evidence and memory of Peter Parker’s existence, and the film’s new post-credits scene helps alleviate some of the confusion. The sequence involves Betty presenting a graduation video on the school news that looks back at all the fun times she and her friends had together in high school. But while Peter was present at these events, her photos show that he has either been removed or blocked from view, which shows in greater detail how Strange’s spell affected any traces of Peter ever existing.

It will take a while before audiences how Spider-Man handles a world without Peter Parker, but for now, this new version of the film should help bridge the gap for waiting fans.

Avengers Endgame and Spider-Man Far From Home trailers reveal THIS about MCU future? https://briefnews.eu/avengers-endgame-and-spider-man-far-from-home-trailers-reveal-this-about-mcu-future/ https://briefnews.eu/avengers-endgame-and-spider-man-far-from-home-trailers-reveal-this-about-mcu-future/#respond Fri, 18 Jan 2019 11:28:37 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/avengers-endgame-and-spider-man-far-from-home-trailers-reveal-this-about-mcu-future/

If you watch the trailer and then Spider-Man Far From Home’s they’re certainly very different. , but there are characters in Far From Home who died in Avengers Infinity War. And let’s not forget the fact that those alive in Endgame are not in the Far From Home trailer. Just what is going on? Well, one popular new fan theory argues that after Endgame there will be two separate MCU universes that are aware of each other but can’t share the same existence anymore.

Reddit user Sinsanity_ argues: “Notice how everyone in the new Far From Home trailer was either snapped out of existence in Infinity War or their status after the snap was unknown…

“None of the people who survived appear in this trailer. And none of the people in this trailer (snapped/potentially snapped) appeared in the endgame trailer…

“I think the Spiderman movie takes place in the warp world … I think after endgame the two universes are aware of each other and exist separately…

That’s why they were fine mentioning Iron Man and Thor but neither of them (or anyone else) made an appearance…”

They added: “It’s also why Happy has let himself go but isn’t depressed… “Endgame likely ends with the two universes becoming aware of each other and deciding to accept this separate existence with their respective heroes safeguarding their own universes.”

Whatever it takes to resurrect the dead in Endgame, it will certainly come at a great cost.

Speaking with Variety last year, Anthony Russo said: “I will say this: There is a real commitment on our end to the stakes.

“Yes, this is a fantasy world, and yes, remarkable things can happen in a fantasy world, but…”

Joe finished for him: “They come at an incredibly high cost.”

Avengers Endgame is released in UK cinemas on April 26 and Spider-Man Far From Home will follow on July 5.

Spider-Man Far From Home Trailer: When is Spider-Man 2 trailer out online? https://briefnews.eu/spider-man-far-from-home-trailer-when-is-spider-man-2-trailer-out-online/ https://briefnews.eu/spider-man-far-from-home-trailer-when-is-spider-man-2-trailer-out-online/#respond Mon, 14 Jan 2019 14:09:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/spider-man-far-from-home-trailer-when-is-spider-man-2-trailer-out-online/

Spider-Man has had his fair share of remakes, live action and otherwise. From Toby Maguire to Andrew Garfield, many actors have donned the red suit to save New York City from evil. The latest incarnation of Peter Parker comes in the form of Tom Holland, an undeniable favourite amongst the remakes. He made his first appearance as Parker in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War before starring in his solo movie Spider-Man: Homecoming.

When is Spider-Man Far From Home trailer out online?

The date for the trailer was leaked by Hollywood insider Daniel RPK, who has a track record of accuracy with Marvel dates.

According to RPK, who posted on Super Bro Movies, he revealed the trailer will arrive on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

He went on to say the originally the teaser was set to debut online at the same time as the Comic-Con screening, but Sony decided to hold it back.

Though the trailer itself hasn’t been shared online, those in attendance at Comic-Con were able to tweet their reactions.

SPIDER-MAN CAST: WILL THIS CHARACTER RETURN IN FAR FROM HOME?

Collider wrote: “So Sony Pictures just world premiered the Spider-Man Far From Home trailer (which looks f***ing awesome) and then Jake Gyllenhaal came out and surprised the CCXP 2018 crowd.

“The crowd was so loud during the trailer I could barely hear some of the dialogue!”

CinePop added: “Spider-Man is famous and going to Europe with friends on a tour, and prefers to leave the uniform in New York.

“Arriving in Venice he is approached by Nick Fury and recruited for a mission to defeat a giant villain made of Stone and Water.”

SPIDER-MAN 2: WILL MR DELMAR BE IN THE SPIDER-MAN SEQUEL?

They added: “Mysterio appears and saves the day, pretending to be a hero. Peter and his friends are in danger. And Aunt May and Happy Hogan are having an affair.

“Spectacular action scenes Peter and Michelle having a romance, Ned making us laugh.”

Spider-Man: Far From Home comes packed with an A-list cast, including some new faces to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

New to the sequel is Numan Acar, who has been cast as a character named Dimitri.

Though the studio has been quiet about who Dimitri is, many believe it is Dimitri Smerdyakov, aka Chameleon, a supervillain depicted in early Spider-Man comics.

Returning to their roles are Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Angourie Rice, and Hemky Madera as Parker’s best friend Ned, his rival Eugene “Flash” Thompson, his classmate Betty Brant, and Mr Delmar, the owner of a local bodega, respectively.

From the main cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming Zendaya, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Zendaya, and Marisa Tomei are all reprising their roles.

The surprise addition to the cast came in the form of Jake Gyllenhaal, who takes up the mantle of villain Mysterio.

Scant details have yet to be released about the Spider-Man sequel, though this is far from atypical when it comes to Marvel movies.

Fans will be most curious as to how Spider-Man returns to life in the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War.

Spider-Man was one of the characters to be snapped out of existence by Thanos.

Spider-Man Far From Home is out in cinemas July 5, 2019.

From Logan Paul to the French Spiderman, here are the viral winners and losers of 2018 https://briefnews.eu/from-logan-paul-to-the-french-spiderman-here-are-the-viral-winners-and-losers-of-2018/ https://briefnews.eu/from-logan-paul-to-the-french-spiderman-here-are-the-viral-winners-and-losers-of-2018/#respond Sun, 30 Dec 2018 13:18:26 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/from-logan-paul-to-the-french-spiderman-here-are-the-viral-winners-and-losers-of-2018/

As 2018 draws to a close, RT takes a look back at the weird and wonderful world of viral news, from the death-defying heroism to rage-inducing moments that grabbed our attention. Here are the viral winners and losers of 2018.

WINNERS

French Spiderman

Mamoudou Gassaman’s heroic climb up the side of a Paris building to rescue a trapped four-year-old places him firmly in the viral winners’ camp.

The immigrant from Mali didn’t hesitate when he saw a small toddler hanging precariously off the side of a balcony in May, leaping into action and scaling the building’s facade to reach the boy as onlookers watched in shock.

Gassaman’s Spider-man moment saw him become a viral sensation, and a petition was soon started to grant the illegal immigrant citizenship in recognition of his heroism. He soon met with French President Emmanuel Macron and was granted French citizenship and a job.

The 7 year old YouTube millionaire

Seven year old Ryan, of Ryan ToysReview YouTube channel, earned a cool $ 22 million for opening toys this year, making the pint-sized entrepreneur YouTube’s top earner for 2018.

Ryan is one of the popular ‘unboxing’ Youtubers who enthrall viewers by opening packaging on products (in his case toys) and then explaining their features. He earned about $ 21 million from advertising revenue alone, with the rest of his earnings generated from sponsored videos.

Knickers, the unbelievably large steer

The chances of a humble bovine reaching viral stardom are few, especially for something as seemingly innocuous as height but, for Australian steer Knickers, his towering stance was so great it saw him become a global viral sensation – and saved him from the slaughterhouse.

Knickers was pictured looming behind a herd of cattle on farmer Geoff Pearson’s farm in Western Australia. The steer is an unbelievable six feet four inches and appeared to dwarf his more vertically challenged counterparts.

Thunder-stealing pelicans

A pair of a attention-seeking Pelican wreaked havoc at a graduation ceremony at Pepperdine University in California in May.

The rogue birds swept ominously through the crowds at the graduation, causing the ceremony to grind to a halt as security struggled with how best to remove them. One of the pelicans even sat among the audience, flapping its large wings to the shock of some attendees.

Yodeling wonder

When 11 year-old Mason Ramsey opened his mouth to blast out some yodeling in a Walmart aisle one day in April, he had no idea it would bring him superstardom.

His rendition of ‘Lovesick Blues’ went viral and Ramsey wound up performing at Coachella – and even landed himself a record deal.

LOSERS

Logan Paul’s dead body disaster

Top YouTuber Logan Paul was trending for all the wrong reasons in January when he shared a video boasting that he had found a dead body while walking through Japan’s Aokigahara forest, a known suicide black spot. The video racked up over six million views in 24 hours that included a tsunami of hate directed at his stunt, described as sick and opportunistic.

Paul’s subsequent apologies fell flat and he went from one of the most popular YouTubers to one of the most hated. Despite this, his loyal fans continue to defend and support him.

Tide Pod Challenge participants

Eating brightly colored plastic packets of toxic chemicals for the lolz and social media glory seems pretty dumb, but that didn’t stop countless teens taking on the Tide Pod ‘challenge’ this January.

The trend got so bad that the detergent’s manufacturer brought out an ad urging people not to eat it, and YouTube removed videos of people attempting it.

Racist busybodies

In an ominous reflection of race relations in the US, 2018 saw a worrying epidemic of busybody Americans calling the police on African Americans going about their business.

As each case was made public, the racist instigators were quickly identified and shamed across social media, with many earning catchy nicknames like Permit Patty and BBQ Becky.

Some of the supposedly offensive acts that prompted the calls to police included sitting by the pool of an apartment building, an eight yea-old selling water and a politician canvassing for votes.

Seething snowflakes self-destruct over Kaepernick

When Colin Kaepernick appeared in a Nike ad in September, it proved too much for a subsection of US society.

The group of individuals were so incensed by Nike’s decision to feature Kaepernick after his #takeaknee ‘shenanigans,’ that they took a leaf out of the footballer’s protest handbook and took to social media to share their self-destructive form of boycott.
