Rapper Lil Nas X made his Saturday Night Live “debut” this week (by way of Chris Redd) in a cold open that also featured Britney Spears, cancelled Looney Tunes character Pepé Le Pew and disgraced Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz. Because why not. It was all part of Oops, You Did It Again, a recurring sketch in which Spears (played to perfection by Chloe Fineman) shines a light on the week’s biggest pariahs. She also called out Selling Sunset‘s Chrishell Stause — though not by name — for claiming that Spears doesn’t write her own social media posts, before thanking this week’s sponsor: Georgia, “voted best place… not to vote.” Lil Nas X (played by Redd) was the first guest in the hot seat, as Spears grilled him about giving the Devil a lap dance in his new music video, as well as releasing a controversial line of Satan shoes. “I don’t know why Nike is so mad,” the rapper said. “Their slogan is ‘Just do it.’ Well, I did it!” Spears, naturally, determined that the only way to even things out was for the rapper to give God a lap dance — which he did, though he reminded the audience that it was actually his friend Gary (played by Mikey Day) dressed up like God. You know, just in case you were confused. (Meanwhile, the real Lil Nas X tweeted, “snl going to hell.”) please welcome @LilNasX to Oops, You Did It Again pic.twitter.com/Ogz74KYlbK — Saturday Night Live – SNL (@nbcsnl) April 4, 2021 The second guest was Kate McKinnon as Pépe Le Pew, who proved that he’s a changed skunk by greeting Spears with a handshake, rather than the usual unwanted kiss. After insisting that he has no hard feelings about being taken out of the new Space Jam movie, the cancelled Looney Tune insisted, “I’m an actor. The part you see me play on TV and in the movies, that is not me.” Fair enough. Then came the true guest of dishonor: Davidson as Gaetz (with a strong dash of Quagmire from Family Guy). The hostess ran through all of the recent sexual misconduct allegations brought against Gaetz — including that he allegedly dated a 17-year-old girl who he took across state lines, and that he allegedly showed his Republican co-workers inappropriate pictures of the women that he slept with — before telling him, “I think I can smell a predator when I see one. After all, I was on The Mickey Mouse Club.” Britney’s final guest tonight was Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz. pic.twitter.com/Bde0PgSZuH — Saturday Night Live – SNL (@nbcsnl) April 4, 2021 Saturday’s episode welcomed actor Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah) as a first-time host, while St. Vincent returned to Studio 8H as a musical guest for the second time; she first appeared on SNL for the Andy Samberg-hosted Season 39 finale in 2014. Which of today’s TVLine Items pique your interest? RuthAnne Cunningham told Means Happy that different parts of 2013’s Work B**ch were put together by different writers – and that she was only told Spears had recorded it four days before it was released. Surprisingly, when it was put together, she had absolutely no idea who – if anyone – would end up singing it. “I came up with the melody parts, the ‘hold your head high, fingers to the sky’ section, for example. All the bits in the song that are sung,” she explained. “I wasn’t there for the recording itself, but she definitely sings the melody parts in her way, if that makes sense, so it sounds very unmistakably ‘Britney’. “I think she sounds great on it. I’m not sure where the British accent came from, but I love it.” Speaking to the new LGBTQ+ website, she said of the moment she head who’d sung it: “A call came four days before it came out and it was played down the phone to me. I was like, wait, that’s our song; I know that voice – is that Britney Spears?! “Then I was told it was the lead single for her new album and it was coming out in four days. I was like, s**t. “I mean it’s every 13 year old’s dream, isn’t it?” Spears is coming to the UK later in the year for some rare tour dates. The jaunt comes after the closure of her Las Vegas residency Piece of Me, which broke records and became one of the most successful shows ever of its kind. As for new music, Spears has long been rumoured to drop new material this year but that remains unconfirmed. She released her most recent opus, Glory, back in 2013 – led by the single Make Me (Oooh). Currently rumours are doing the rounds that she may collaborate with Panic! At The Disco, after Rock Sound reported them liking a tweet speculating on a duet. Spears shot to fame in 1999 and has sold over 100 million records worldwide, and 28.6 million digital singles in the USA alone. The huge star will play London’s O2 Arena on Friday 24 August, with another show now added for Saturday 25. However both dates are proving tricky for fans today, with demand incredibly high. Ticketmaster announced on social media: #tmAnnounced! Due to incredible demand, @BritneySpears adds a show in London on Saturday 25 August. Tickets on sale now.” The date joins her shows in Scarborough on August 17, Manchester on August 18 and Glasgow on August 22. She is also headlining the Brighton Pride festival on August 4, and playing a string of other dates around Europe. Fans have been struggling to find tickets, with one saying: “Totally devastated, so wanted to go to see #BritneySpears at the #o2 they sold out at 10am, I was ready & waiting #gutted.” Another raged: “@TicketmasterUK you need to do ALOT more work on how people snap up tickets to just sell them on. It’s like competing in the hunger games to see @britneyspears and I’ve been vigilant.” Tickets have begun appearing on resale sites for extortionate prices, leaving some fuming. “@britneyspears tickets sold out from 10am on the dot yet over 1000 for sale on get me in! What a joke,” tweeted one disgrunted fan. Indeed some seats for the O2 show are currently selling on GetMeIn for as much as £935. TicketMaster have updated fans on Twitter with news that mostly Platinum tickets remain; although they have promised they are “working on getting you more #PieceOfMe tickets. Watch this space.” There had been disappointment yesterday as well when ticket websites crashed during the fan presale, putting added pressure on today’s release. Spears is touring her Piece of Me set, which recently finished a record-breaking four-year run in Las Vegas. The music superstar has recently wrapped up her Las Vegas residency with the epic concert, and will now take it on the road. In the mix are a string of UK dates, including a headlining slot at August’s Brighton Pride. That show, which will take place on August 4, is already on sale – with tickets starting at just £25, rising to £37.50 as availability dwindles. She’ll also be at Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre on August 17, the Manchester Arena on August 18, Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on August 22 and London’s The O2 on August 24. Tickets for all those shows go on sale on January 27 at 10am, with pre-sale access available 25 hours earlier – from 9am on January 26. Amongst the other European dates, Spears will be in Berlin, Germany on August 6, Skanderborg, Denmark on August 8, Oslo, Norway on August 10 and Sandviken, Sweden on August 11. Then she returns to Germany to play Mönchengladbach on August 13, Belgium’s Antwerp on August 15 and Dublin’s 3 Arena in Ireland on August 20. This is Britney’s first full international venture for quite some time, although she has played occasional one-off shows away from Vegas since she began her residency back in 2013. She’ll also be playing several concerts around the USA, although currently only six cities overall have been announced – including New York. Fans have been reacting with utter excitement at the news – with Spears’ name, as well as Brighton Pride and Scarborough Open Air Theatre, trending on Twitter this morning. Spears herself said in a tweet: “I’m so excited to announce that we’re bringing the #PieceOfMe tour to select cities in North America, Europe and the UK! See you guys this summer.” Britney is also rumoured to be releasing new music in the coming months, although this is unconfirmed. Her latest opus Glory came out in 2016 to her best critical acclaim in years.

Two of my favorite PC games are Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and Mount & Blade (both Warband and the original), so consider me excited when I saw Tales of Glory for the first time. With a heavy focus on first-person melee combat among an assortment of knights wielding weapons like pikes and swords and spears, it looks like the recipe for one of VR’s most exhilarating titles yet.
We’ve seen a ton of VR games that focus on small-scale combat, such as 1-on-1 dueling or exploring a dungeon to fight a few enemies here and there, but there aren’t a whole lot of VR games that put you on the battlefield in a larger way. Naturally, that’s exactly what Tales of Glory aims to do.
Just like with Chivalry and Mount & Blade, you take on the role of a soldier in a big medieval battle. In Chivalry it’s all about the action with a smattering of game modes ranging from team-based objective warfare to straight up deathmatch. Mount & Blade, for those unaware, is a much more tactical affair as you roam the land amassing an army, challenging kings to battle, and sieging castles as you spread your banner throughout the kingdom. It’s also got one of the most dedicated and creative modding communities in all of PC gaming.
While Tales of Glory surely lacks the scope and polish of either of those titles, it more than makes up for it in its originality and execution. The fact of the matter is that there just isn’t anything else like Tales of Glory for VR headsets right now.
With 20 different battlefields, more than 20 different weapons to pick from including longbows, swords, polearms, maces, flails, and more, plus horseback combat and castle sieges, it’s a bit like a heavy dose of fantasy-themed wish fulfillment for me.
Battles can feature up to 100 NPCs total, which really lends a fascinating sense of scale. I’m used to VR games that tip-toe around action and don’t let you interact with more than a handful of characters at any time, but the first time you see a catapult crash into the side of a castle and send enemies ragdollign through the air — while in VR — is pretty special.
Right now it’s all just sandbox-style skirmish matches, but the mechanics are pretty solid. The weapons all feel different and when you start a game you get to pick from an assortment of them. Horseback riding feels a bit janky, but it was still fun to ride down enemies on an open field. Mastering the bow is really enjoyable, just as it is in other games like The Lab’s Longbow and even Skyrim VR.
All-in-all Tales of Glory in its current state is very much like a robust tech demo with a lack of structured content as the skeletal makeup of a much larger game. I really want to play that other, finished game, but this isn’t a bad start.
Since Tales of Glory is still in Early Access it has its fair share of bugs and optimization issues. In fact, unless you have a very high-end rig then you’re probably gonna hit stuttering and maybe even crashes. There’s still a lot of work to be done on this title, including a proper “campaign” mode for single-player and multiplayer features.

Instagram is on its way to hitting a billion users this year and with that kind of popularity comes a lot of traffic. But lurking among all of many, many harmless comments that get posted each day, there’s also the occasional post instructing Russian malware how to get in touch with its controllers. Because of course there is.
The Slovak IT security company ESET Security released a report yesterday detailing a cleverly hidden example of such a post. And its hideout? A Britney Spears photo. Among the nearly 7,000 comments written on the performer’s post (shown below) was one that could easily pass as spam.

The malware was situated in a Firefox browser extension pretending to be a security feature and it would search for hidden links in order to connect back to its control server. And the comment, now deleted, was actually a web address that required a fairly complicated, multi-step process to decipher.
In this case, the malware went through all of the comments on Spears’ Instagram photo and computed a number, or a “hash,” for each one, while it looked for a specific hash. When it found the comment with the right hash, it would check it out for particular characters, grab the letters that came after those characters and turn them it into a link. That link would then let the malware connect to its controllers. Such a method allows the controllers to change where it meets up with the malware without having to change the malware itself.
ESET Security said they thought this particular post was just a test and linked the malware scheme to a group called Turla, a cyber espionage group that the company says has targeted governments, government officials and diplomats for some time.
So, while that weird comment on your latest selfie might look like junk, it could actually be a conduit for some Russian malware and the subject of some upcoming breaking news. Happy posting.

When you think of plankton, you might think of docile, intricately shaped microbes gently swaying in ocean currents while generously providing food for all manner of sea creatures. Serene. Charming. In reality, they’re little savages who constantly take each other out with sophisticated ballistic weapons.
In a new study published in Science Advances, researchers nabbed the first high-resolution images of those impressive arsenals. The militarized microbes are packing spears, harpoons, and miniaturized versions of a Gatling gun, complete with up to 15 barrels. The images and analysis provide the most detailed assessment yet of plankton’s elaborate weaponry. Those ballistics were hypothesized by some to be the evolutionary root of similar ballistics seen in other, distantly related sea creatures, such as jellyfish. But with the new data, the authors, led by researchers at the University of British Columbia, suggest that the microbes’ arms evolved separately and are uniquely complex.
To get the money shots, the researchers used focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy and assembled the images to create 3D reconstructions. They started with Polykrikos kofoidii, a single-celled eukaryote in a group called dinoflagellates. They’re known to use a harpoon-like weapon to hunt down other plankton critters, including ones that cause toxic algae blooms.
