An American journalist who pointed out the extensive edits the New York Times made to its article about the Israeli bombing of Gaza found himself in a heated Twitter argument with the Israeli consulate.

A Twitter account “Editing The Gray Lady,” which tracks edits to the Times, revealed on Monday how the US paper of record changed its headlines and copy to describe the events in Gaza.

“Incredible propaganda,” Ben Norton, a New York-based writer for The Real News, commented on the edits, adding that the Times “bent over backward and rewrote its article to erase how Israel initiated the violence in Gaza, obscuring the fact that Gaza’s self-defense was ‘retaliatory’ and instead pushing the covert Israeli operation until the end.”

That attracted the attention of the Israeli consulate in New York, however, which admonished Norton to “get it right.”

Norton was having none of it, laying out a timeline of events in Gaza and insisting he did get it right and the consulate was wrong.

“If the terrorist propaganda TV station of a genocidal terrorist group like Hamas is your source of news, we understand exactly what sort of ‘journalist’ you are,” the consulate replied.

“Bombing a TV station of a news outlet is a war crime, even if you don’t like the journalists running it,” Norton shot back.

This is hardly the first time Israeli diplomats have used Twitter to directly address journalists reporting on the conflict. In August, Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon accused the BBC of lying over a Gaza story and demanded the British broadcaster “change it IMMEDIATELY.”

In July, Nahshon lashed out at CNN International to “STOP YOUR MANIPULATION,” saying they “got it wrong and not for the first time.”

CNN’s Acosta began his line of questioning by saying that the journalists “deserved” a reassurance that their work was valued by the President, and it would be a “good thing” if she would refute a label Trump first gave the press in January 2017, and never backed down from.

But Sanders would not swallow the bait, stating that Trump has “made his position clear,” but before she could get any further, Acosta began to ask another follow-up.

Sanders exploded, accusing the CNN correspondent of interrupting, and butting in to ask his question in the first place.

She then went on the offensive, accusing the press of “lowering the level of conversation in this country,” making “inciting anger” and “making personal attacks.” She then reminded Acosta that she is the first White House press secretary to require security protection, and brought up the press decision to use a comedian during the annual White House correspondents’ dinner, Michelle Wolff, who dedicated a significant part of her set to jabbing at Sanders.

“The media continues to ratchet up the verbal assault against the president and everyone in this administration. Certainly, we have a role to play, but the media has a role to play for the discourse in this country as well,” said Sanders.

Having tried to interject several times during Sanders’ answer, at least some of which she appears to have made notes for in advance, Acosta insisted again that Sanders refute the enemy line, which she refused.

While the 90-minute briefing was less than ten minutes away from wrapping up anyway, Acosta later tweeted that he walked “saddened” by a “shameful” performance.

The old quote came to the fore again after Ivanka Trump, the daughter of the president, said earlier on Thursday that the press was “not the enemy,” as well as insisting she was against controversial family separations for illegal migrants.

 There is little doubt that the line, when originally uttered, was primarily reserved for Acosta’s employer (along with the “failing” New York Times) and the political correspondent has done well to focus much of the anger on himself recently, including at a Trump rally in Florida, where he performed a piece-to-camera in front of a crowd of MAGA supporters baying for his blood.

Jimmy Kimmel got into a Twitter fight Thursday with Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore over “Christian values,” sparked by a segment Kimmel’s show orchestrated on Wednesday at one of Moore’s campaign events. Kimmel continued to respond to Moore on Thursday night’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

The feud started after Kimmel sent a “Kimmel Live!” writer to disrupt Moore’s speech at an Alabama church on Wednesday night, by shouting phrases like “Does that look like the face of someone who hits on teenage girls,” and “Does that look like the face of a molester,” while Moore spoke.

Moore is running for an open US Senate seat in Alabama amid accusations of sexual assault and allegations that he pursued relationships with teenage girls while in his 30s. He has denied those allegations.

“.@jimmykimmel If you want to mock our Christian values, come down here to Alabama and do it man to man. #ALSen,” Moore tweeted Thursday afternoon.

“Sounds great Roy – let me know when you get some Christian values and I’ll be there!,” Kimmel tweeted back at Moore.

Kimmel read the Twitter exchange during his opening monologue on Thursday night: “And I responded, and he responded back, and I responded again. It’s all on Twitter, but the bottom line is this: I accept the invitation. I will come down there.”

Kimmel went on to reference a rumor that Moore was banned from an Alabama mall for his interactions with underage girls, and he agreed to meet Moore at that same mall with a group of cheerleaders.

“If you can somehow manage to keep little Roy in your little cowboy pants when those nubile cheerleaders come bounding in,” Kimmel said, “we’ll have a little Panda Express and we’ll talk about Christian values.”

Kimmel considered whether Moore’s request to “do it man to man” meant that Moore wanted to fight him.

“If you are, I accept by the way. I accept that invitation,” Kimmel said. “There is no one I would love to fight more than you. I will put my Christian values aside just for you and for that fight.”

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo sparred with President Donald Trump’s top counselor, Kellyanne Conway, on Monday over a June 2016 meeting between a Russian lawyer and top Trump campaign officials.

During a contentious interview that went more than 30 minutes, Cuomo repeatedly asked Conway about the meeting between the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., the president’s son-in-law and top adviser, Jared Kushner, and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, who reportedly promised them damaging information on soon-to-be Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Cuomo grilled Conway on the differing statements Trump Jr. released over the weekend explaining the meeting, which was exposed by The New York Times, questioned the campaign’s credibility, and argued there are “huge legal and ethical implications” of the meeting. 

Conway shot back that CNN has its own credibility issues, accused Cuomo of “more punditry than reporting,” and denied that there is anything concerning about the meeting.

At one point, the two sparred over whether the word ‘Russia’ was relevant to the conversation. 

“Chris, you keep on saying, ‘Russia,'” Conway said. “What did this woman say? Why was she there?”

Cuomo shot back that “this is the word that Trump Jr. used: ‘Russia.'”

“Excuse me? In what context?” Conway replied. 

Cuomo said, “He used the word ‘Russia’ — she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Mrs. Clinton. These were his words. This is why he took the meeting.” 

Conway responded, “Here’s the unfair premise: that we are talking about this yet again, that you talk about Russia more than you talk about the United States.”

At another point in the exchange, Conway and Cuomo started arguing about CNN’s coverage of Trump.

“Tell whatever six vs. one anti-Trump panel we’re sorry that we cut into their time,” Conway said.

Cuomo then demanded that she “tell the American people something else” while she’s on the air.

“That they shouldn’t believe all of the White House and the surrogates and all your alt-right friends that want to destroy the responsible media,” Cuomo continued. “Tell them that they shouldn’t listen to that stuff, that the media matters and they should judge stories on their face and that they shouldn’t think that there’s some type of agenda out to get the president on behalf of the fake press.”

Conway then said that Cuomo was just trying to “go viral” with his statements.

Cuomo also noted that “all you guys do is bash CNN,” but said “thank you for the ratings.”
