Filmmaker Ava DuVernay‘s second project for OWN, following Queen Sugar, has found its leads.

Xosha Roquemore (The Mindy Project) and Alano Miller (Underground) are set to headline the inaugural season of Cherish the Day, an anthology that will chronicle the stirring romance of one couple, with each episode spanning a single day. The season-long narrative will unfold to reveal “significant moments in a relationship that compel us to hold true to the ones we love, from the extraordinary to the everyday.”

Roquemore and Miller will respectively play Gently James and Evan Fisher, a couple who meets and falls in love in Los Angeles, with the full season spanning five years across eight episodes.

Tanya Hamilton (Queen Sugar) will direct the Cherish the Day series premiere, which was written by executive producer DuVernay.

Roquemore’s previous TV credits also include I’m Dying Up Here and Black Monday, while Miller has had runs on The Red Line, Jane the Virgin and Halt and Catch Fire.

The eighth Harry Potter story is currently running as a hit theatrical production in the West End and on Broadway.

However many fans would one day like to see Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint reprise their roles as Harry, Ron and Hermione in a film adaptation.

Taking into account that the play is in two parts, would this mean two films, one or maybe even a trilogy?

Last year a rumour sprouted from alleged sources at Warner Bros that the studio was planning a Cursed Child movie trilogy.

He continued: “I think it’s got a wonderful, long, theatrical run…it works brilliantly as a piece of theatre. I love the fact that there’s another aspect of the Harry Potter world which is completely different from everything else.

“I think it’s very special as it is and there will be a time when she’s maybe ready to do it [as a movie].”

Assuming Rowling could be persuaded one day, perhaps a trilogy would be a little too much.

However two movies would be perfect, reflecting both Part 1 and Part 2 of the Cursed Child play.

Nevertheless it wouldn’t be surprising if the studio pushed for a trilogy for financial reasons.

After all Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy was originally meant to be just two films, but turned into three films.

While financial gain was denied, it did seem a little over the top especially when the last film’s Battle of the Five Armies takes place over just a few pages of JRR Tolkien’s short novel.

L’Oreal is trying to think smaller, and it’s getting help from Google.

One of the themes of the swanky Cannes ad festival this year was that it’s ever more challenging to get consumers’ attention, particularly on mobile phones. Thus, companies ranging from Facebook to Snapchat to Fox are pushing the industry to produce super short ads, with six second videos emerging as a defacto new standard.

The problem is that most brands and agencies are still oriented toward making expensive 30-second TVs, which they then try to retrofit for the web.

To help flip that approach, L’Oreal, which owns a stable of beauty brands, and Google are trying to take a crash course in six-second ad production. Specifically, L’Oreal and Google are jointly rolling out a new initiative they’re calling the Trend Hacker Boardroom.

Starting this month, staff from both companies will work together to sift through data on what people are engaging with on YouTube and look to put out timely six-second ads that will run prior to content on the video platform.

The hope is that L’Oreal will not only churn out ads faster — sometimes in a few days — but these ads will be that much more relevant based on what people are responding to at a given moment, said Nadine McHugh, the company’s senior vice president of omni media, strategic investments and creative solutions.

“It’s super hard to get somebody’s attention,” she said. “In this time challenged environment, advertisers have to think about a value exchange with consumers more than ever.”

lorealFoxtongue via FlickrIdeally, that means showing them short ads they may actually find valuable. L’Oreal might see that people on certain YouTube channels are talking about specific beauty looks or skin issues, and they might produce six-second ads featuring tips from L’Oreal.

Or if everyone’s talking about Fashion Week, L’Oreal might crank out behind the scenes clips from the various runway events in New York and London.

Debbie Weinstein, YouTube’s managing director, global brand solution, said that since launching six-second ads last year, the company has executed 600 campaigns. But this joint approach with a brand is a first in this category. “Lots of people can have data,” she said.  “It’s the insights that are hard. So we’re most impressed with [L’Oreal’s] disciplined way of testing and learning.”

The Trend Hacker Boardroom is being funded out of a special budget L’Oreal sets aside for experimental ad initiatives, said McHugh, which her team oversees. If the company doesn’t force itself to test new things, it’s too easy for individual brands to keep doing the same thing with their media plans, she added.

“We have a Shark Tank-like pitch where we try to find partners that might be on the cusp, so we can do things that have never been done before by our brands,” she said. “It’s our version of future proofing.”

One thing L’Oreal is thinking about in the near future is how the six-second video ads might help its TV work. The company has seen research that people look down at their phones once TV commercials come on the air, and that marketers may need more attention-grabbing audio in their ads to break that behavior.

So the tactics from the Hacker ads may help L’Oreal on TV. The company may even start running 10-second TV ads, she said.

“You have to get people to look up,” McHugh said. “We need to recognize this.”

The Resident Evil film franchise that starred Milla Jovovich and was directed entirely by filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson came to an end earlier this year with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. The video game movie series finale may have only grossed nearly $ 27 million at the domestic box office, but it raked in over $ 285 million internationally on a budget of just $ 40 million. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that a Resident Evil reboot is already being developed overseas.

The German production company Constantin Film is currently developing a Resident Evil reboot, and currently the plan is to have the story span six total movies, just like the film franchise that just concluded. This isn’t just putting the horse before the cart, this is throwing the cart halfway across the world before the horse has even learned to walk.

Variety first reported the news of the Resident Evil reboot after speaking with Martin Moszkowicz, chairman of the board at Constantin Film, at the Cannes Film Festival. The German company produced all the installments of the previous Resident Evil franchise, and they still own the movie rights to the video game series. Clearly they want to keep milking it for all its worth in the international box office scene.

As of now, there’s no word on who would direct the first film in the rebooted franchise, who will take the lead role, or if the franchise would have any connection to the original film series. The only thing we know right now is that the plan is to turn the video game property into another six-movie franchise.

While I’m not surprised that the Resident Evil franchise is being rebooted, I’m surprised that it’s going into development so soon. Along with that, it’s a little ridiculous that Constantin Films is already looking at crafting a six film franchise. Warner Bros. Pictures attempted to do the same thing with King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, but that plan was abandoned before the movie hit theaters. Can’t studios just think about one movie at a time instead of trying to plan an entire franchise from the get-go.

The upside of a Resident Evil reboot, at least for fans of the video game franchise, is that this creates the opportunity to have movies that are more loyal to the games on which it will be based. While the Resident Evil franchise was inspired by the games and brought characters from them to the big screen, it differed greatly from the stories in them, which frustrated many fans.

This weekend will bring a slew of major Star Wars updates thanks to Star Wars Celebration happening down in Orlando, Florida. We’ve already made our predictions about the announcements that will be made but haven’t been confirmed just yet, but there’s at least one thing that we know for sure will be revealed this weekend.

Star Wars Battlefront II is coming to consoles later this year, and the first trailer was meant to be debuted on April 15th during Star Wars Celebration. But someone jumped the gun and leaked the video, revealing some promising details about the video game sequel that many fans have been hoping would approve upon some of the more disappointing aspects of the title’s revival in the winter of 2015.

If the video above isn’t available, then you missed it. But don’t worry, because we’ll replace it as soon as it officially debuts on April 15 this weekend. In the meantime, let’s talk about what the brief 30-second tease reveals about the video game sequel.

The trailer opens with a voiceover of a female Imperial soldier saying, “I still remember my last orders” as the second Death Star explodes above the forest moon of Endor. This appears to be a tease at the campaign mode that will be included in the game, something that fans lamented was missing from the first iteration of the game that was revamped for current generation consoles.

What’s interesting is that the campaign seems to focus on being a soldier on the side of the Empire, which would make an interesting change of pace from the video games that frequently follow someone on the Rebel Alliance. The bumpers in the trailer tease “the untold soldier’s story” before another line of voiceover says “avenge our emperor”, which seems to further confirm that the campaign will focus on an Imperial soldier. Plus, as you can see in the top image, the official title card has Imperial pilot standing between two recognizable heroes.

Outside of the campaign, the trailer quickly teases the expansion of the multiplayer gameplay, which will be vastly improved by spanning all eras of Star Wars. We see shots of Hoth, the surface of Starkiller Base, and I believe Takodana, but the last one is just a guess.

The real exciting part is the reveal of the new trademark heroes who are joining the game. We see a shot of Darth Maul in the plasma refinery complex from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, but his opponent isn’t Qui-Gon Jinn or Obi-Wan Kenobi, but Yoda ready to wield his tiny lightsaber. Then we see Rey charging through the woods with explosions in the background before the trailer concludes with a shot of Kylo Ren as he looks behind him over his shoulder in what appears to be a cave.

We end on the title card reveal seen at the top of this page, which also includes a little banner at the bottom telling fans that if they pre-order, they’ll get to use Star Wars: The Last Jedi heroes. Which heroes? That remains to be seen.

In short, the trailer promises to fix some of the problems that fans had with the first Star Wars Battlefront, and hopefully the campaign will make the game stay interesting a little longer for those who get sick of playing multiplayer over and over again.
