The Flight Attendant officially premiered on Thanksgiving with three episodes, the first of which we recapped during the HBO Max series’ free preview.

What all did the titular Cassie confeess to the FBI in Episode 2? And what was she able to find out about the mysterious Miranda?

Confronted along with her colleagues by FBI agents Kim and Van upon deplaning at JFK, Cassie offered precious little about murder victim Alex Sokolov, and eventually asserted she was too jet-lagged/loopy to be of immediate assistance. Afterward, Cassie fretted that fellow flight attendant Megan had said too much to the feds, by claiming that she and Alex had been flirting. As such, once back home, Cassie downed copious months of vodka before slipping into a bubble bath to calm down — though her being vexed about Miranda caused her to accidentally shatter the barware in her hand.

The next morning, Cassie sweats through a spin class when the Alex in her head reminds her that she has his business card, and she thus knows where he works — and maybe Miranda, the associate who joined them for drinks at the hotel, works there too. So with a changed-up ‘do and going by “Alessandra Ricci,” Cassie shows up at Unisphere to meet with Alex. But when Cassie brings up the name Miranda with receptionist Sabrina, red flags start to get raised. Then, when HR honcho Jean Miller presses “Alessandra” about the exact nature of her business with Alex — and claims she knows of no “Miranda” — Cassie makes a run for it, down the fire stairs and to the street.

When FBI agent Van rings Cassie, inviting her to come by the next morning, she swings by gal pal Annie’s law firm, to shed a bit more light on her wild situation. Annie, to put it mildly, is apoplectic about the misguided moves her friend has made thus far. But as her lawyer, she is ready to make things right, provided Cassie gets a good night’s sleep and isn’t late for their morning with the FBI.

Self-destructive Cassie, of course, sets course for a laaaate, wild night, meeting up with coworker Shane and his friends, and eventually chatting up/hooking up with a guy named Barkley, who she meets at the bar. As such, Cassie meets up with Annie late the next morning, looking disheveled and reeking of booze. Annie lays out a simple plan, whereby Cassie will plead the fifth any time her lawyer gives the nod. And that works fine enough… for a hot minute. But when Van slaps down a graphic photo of bloodied Alex, followed by curious photos of Cassie disguised in her headscarf, and then in the Unisphere elevator, she snaps and admits that she had dinner with Alex and had lots of sex with him, but she definitely didn’t kill him. But maybe this mysterious Miranda knows something, she suggests…?

Cassie is rightly chided by Annie afterwards, but she suggests that now the feds think she is simply a drunk, slutty flight attendant and not a killer. (Though technically she could be both, Annie reminds.) Annie urges Cassie to stick with her regular routine and head off her next flight, to Rome. Which Cassie intends to do. But first, sparked by the theory that someone slipped into Alex’s room to kill him when Cassie tried/failed to head home that night, she “bumps into” Sabrina the receptionist, who is rightly guarded at first after the odd events of the previous day. But after a round (or a few) of drinks, Sabrina is willing to give her new pal alllll the hot goss, including how Miranda used to date Alex (possibly at the time of his and Cassie’s Bangkok bangin’), and how she also was not a “stalker,” but you know, a stalker. And a potentially volatile/violent one at that!

Which is not good for Cassie, seeing as on her way home that night, little does she know that Miranda — having obtained Cassie’s identity via a Bangkok bar receipt — is now in New York, and walking right next to her.

Elsewhere in Episode 2:

* When agents Kim and Van locked horns over the latter’s aggressive approach — he jumped the gun by bringing Cassie in, assuming the hotel surveillance tapes would incriminate her (but instead had been erased) — he reckoned the brass must like his tactics if in half the time he rose to the same rank as his partner. This set Kim off on a brilliant monologue about how Van, fitting the Bureau’s “male and pale” archetype, had a far easier ascension than she did as a Black woman who would never be given the latitude to make such bold plays.

* Megan met up at night with a clerk at some kind of store to train prescription drugs she has on hand for… non-scanned flash drives? (Despite multiple replays, the exact nature of this transaction, perhaps purposely, eluded me.)

* Cassie’s brother Davey is very worried about her — namely, her drinking — and whether it’s prudent for her to be around his kids anymore.

A reported shortage of hormone replacement therapy medication was an item under discussion on today’s episode of Loose Women. But when Christine Lampard read aloud an official statement from the Department of Health, show regular Saira Khan to reached her wits’ end with the issue.

Women in need of hormone replacement therapy to ameliorate severe symptoms of the menopause have faced supply issues for over a year.

There are now calls from doctors for the government to investigate why the shortages are still in effect.

In a letter to health secretary Matt Hancock, The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the British Menopause Society, and the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare have detailed the length of time women have been struggling with the shortages.

There is now concern hormonal contraceptive supplies are also being affected by the shortages and the Loose Women panel decided to weigh in on the issue on ITV today.

Christine followed up, saying: “One of those wishy-washy answers.”

Saira then took a moment to compose herself, taking overly-dramatic deep breaths.

The British Menopause Society is regularly updating its website on the availability of HRT products and alternatives.

According to Dr Edward Morris, the president of the Royal College, it’s believed the HRT supply should begin to pick up in February.

Good Doctor Recap: Shaun’s (Sort of) Secret Lunch Sparks Carly’s Jealousy https://briefnews.eu/good-doctor-recap-shauns-sort-of-secret-lunch-sparks-carlys-jealousy/ https://briefnews.eu/good-doctor-recap-shauns-sort-of-secret-lunch-sparks-carlys-jealousy/#respond Tue, 11 Feb 2020 11:53:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/good-doctor-recap-shauns-sort-of-secret-lunch-sparks-carlys-jealousy/

RELATED STORIES

This week on The Good Doctor, Carly grapples with her jealousy over Shaun and Lea’s continued friendship, while Morgan’s worsening condition takes its toll in the operating room.

After an early-morning quickie — or, as Carly puts it, a “pre-dawn romantic interlude” — Shaun and Carly are late to work. Carly wants to discuss the timing of their rendezvous over lunch, but Shaun has too much to get done. What he doesn’t divulge to his girlfriend is that his to-do list includes lunch with Lea. As his former roommate chomps down on a salad, she tells him that she has decided to quit her cushy startup job. She’s been stuck in a rut and she needs a change.

Meanwhile, back at St. Bonaventure, Shaun, Morgan and Lim treat social-media influencer Kayley (played by 13 Reasons Why‘s Chelsea Alden). When Shaun saves her life, he gains unwanted notoriety. The hospital wants to take advantage of the situation and prop Shaun up in front of the press, but the medical marvel doesn’t want to commit to an interview. Even if he did, he says, he doesn’t have the time — what with work and all the sex he’s having with Carly! That’s exactly what he tells Glassman before he switches gears and suggests that his mentor hire Lea to help digitize the clinic. Glassy is hesitant, but agrees to consider Lea if Shaun will reconsider talking to the press. And so, the following day, Glassman has Lea in for an interview as a favor to Shaun. He and Lea agree that they’d kill each other, but Lea proves her worth when she bypasses the clinic’s firewall to show that patients’ sealed records are at risk of being intercepted.

'The Good Doctor' 3x14: Carly and Morgan SceneElsewhere in the hospital, Shaun asks Carly out to lunch. He wants to pick her brain and see what she thinks about talking to the press. Once he gets his girlfriend’s opinion, he tells her that he’s on his way upstairs to see what Lea thinks. He then lets slip that he saw his bestie for lunch yesterday. Carly is visibly upset, not just about the lunch, but that Shaun has arranged for Lea to work at the hospital, where she can hover over their relationship. Shaun defends himself, saying that there was no reason to tell his girlfriend about the lunch before now. He also defends arranging a job interview for Lea; if she gets the job, she’ll be working all the way on the other side of the hospital. Carly eventually steps out for air and talks through her feelings with Morgan, of all people. Morgan says that Carly has every right to be jealous of Lea, then suggests that a little bit of jealousy is good. “Give into it, then get over it,” she says to her.

Eventually, Carly confronts Shaun. She acknowledges that Lea is a good friend, and she doesn’t want her boyfriend to cut Lea out of his life. With that being said, going to Lea for advice “was like Wyoming all over again.” Shaun is able to make sense of Carly’s feelings, then tells her that they’ll work through this together. As for talking to the press, he ultimately decides against it. He tells Glassman that he considered all the arguments, and he wants to be known as a good doctor, not a good autistic doctor.

'The Good Doctor' 3x14 - Morgan and Glassman SceneAs for Morgan, her conversation with Carly comes prior to Kayley’s surgery, on which she has been chosen by Lim to take lead. While outside, Morgan experiences pain in her hand; her rheumatoid arthritis is flaring up again. Rather than confess to Lim, she scrubs in for surgery and the patient suffers a complication. Morgan finds a fix, but the complication might have been her doing. Later on, Glassman confronts the third-year surgical resident and surmises that her arthritic pain caused the screwup.

Morgan also stirs up trouble outside the O.R. this week — or so we’re led to believe. Outside the hospital, she spots Melendez and Claire on a mid-afternoon run. In a subsequent scene, Lim walks into Melendez’s office and shuts the door. She tells him that there’s something awkward they need to talk about: “You and Claire.” Melendez gets up from his seat and tells his ex that she can open the door, because there’s nothing remotely improper going on between him and Dr. Browne. That’s when Lim reveals that she has received an anonymous favoritism complaint, and they need to deal with it.

This all happens amid the backdrop of a Case of the Week involving a single mom who uses her daughter’s stool to do a home fecal transfer. (The line “Mommy drunk my poop” will haunt my nightmares for weeks to come.) This disgusting twist turns out to be a blessing in disguise, as Mom’s abdominal pain forces the doctors to run tests on her daughter’s stool. The results reveal that the child has serious, yet treatable cardiac problems that have quietly plagued her up until now.

Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists (Sort of) Brings Back a fAmiliAr Foe — Plus, Is Alison Ready to Move On? https://briefnews.eu/pretty-little-liars-the-perfectionists-sort-of-brings-back-a-familiar-foe-plus-is-alison-ready-to-move-on/ https://briefnews.eu/pretty-little-liars-the-perfectionists-sort-of-brings-back-a-familiar-foe-plus-is-alison-ready-to-move-on/#respond Thu, 02 May 2019 01:08:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/pretty-little-liars-the-perfectionists-sort-of-brings-back-a-familiar-foe-plus-is-alison-ready-to-move-on/

It’s been three weeks since Alison signed her divorce papers on Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, but as we saw on Wednesday’s episode, it hasn’t made her life any less complicated. Not only did the mystery surrounding Nolan’s death continue to ramp up, but we also witnessed Alison struggling with a more relatable, less murder-centric problem.

“Trying to schedule FaceTime with Grace and Lily is like the UN trying to schedule a G-7 summit,” Alison vented, which could be taken to mean that Emily isn’t being super cooperative in the co-parenting process — you know, unless the babies also have unusually busy schedules for some reason.

“Don’t be so hard on yourself,” Taylor replied. “You’re a working mom. Your kids will appreciate how hard you’ve worked for them.” Alison thanked Taylor for trusting her, then remarked, “We do have a lot in common.” (Wait a minute, do I detect… sparks?! If so, this would take the concept of a “clone couple” to the next level.)

Alison eventually managed to squeeze in a remote visit with her daughters, though I was more focused on the framed photo — of just Alison with the twins — behind her during the call. The fact that Ali appears to have removed pictures of Emily from her new house gives me the impression that she’s finally moving on.

And if you enjoy callbacks to the original series, you probably loved this interaction between the two generations of Pretty Little Liars:

Mona: Remember that underground dollhouse I was trapped in? It looked like a bunker from the outside.
Ava: OK, we have to Google these guys.
Mona: You won’t find anything. We were minors, those records are sealed.
Alison: Remember when “A” made Hanna eat all those cupcakes?
Caitlin: Who’s “A”?
Mona: [Raises her hand.] It was a long time ago. It was a game that got out of hand.

Ali and Mona also decided that the gang should start referring to this unknown enemy by a familiar alias: “A.” (I’d also like to know where it was purely coincidental that Ava was wearing a red coat during this conversation!)

“I think it’s fun to bring back various elements on top of actually bringing back Ali and Mona,” Eli Brown (aka Dylan) tells TVLine. “I like these little spices from the old show. It’s like we’re putting little cumin on top, little red chili pepper flakes. It spices it up a little. And it’s cool to even say that I sat on set and talked about ‘A’ with Alison and Mona.”

How do you feel about this week’s callbacks to the original PLL? And with only a few episodes left in the season, who do you think killed Nolan? Drop your thoughts in a comment below.

  • Porsche built a single brand-new 993-generation 911 Turbo dubbed Project Gold.
  • The 993 was the last generation of the Porsche 911 sports car to be powered by air-cooled engines.
  • The Project Gold Porsche 911 will be powered by a 450 horsepower, twin-turbocharged flat-six from the 993 Turbo S.
  • Porsche will auction off the Project Gold 911 in October with proceeds going to charity.

The air-cooled Porsche 911 Turbo remains one of the all-time great sports cars two decades after the last one rolled out of the company’s plant in Stuttgart, Germany. The 993, the final generation of the 911 to use air-cooled engines, remains one of the most sought-after Porsches in the world. With two-decade-old 911 Turbos fetching upwards of $ 200,000.

Now, Porsche is bringing back its old warhorse for one more tour of duty to celebrate the sports car maker’s 70th anniversary.
