The US Agency for International Development (USAID) funneled funds into a “Justice for All” campaign to reform the courts in Albania in 2016, which was run by Soros’s “East West Management Institute,” according to the conservative watchdog Judicial Watch. The group obtained 32 pages of State Department documents through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit.

“The Obama administration quietly spent at least $ 9 million in US taxpayers’ dollars in direct collusion with left-wing billionaire George Soros’ backing of a socialist government in Albania,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement.

Soros is a billionaire and “shouldn’t be receiving taxpayer support to advance his radical left agenda to undermine freedom here at home and abroad,” Fitton added.

Following the report’s publication, a USAID official told Fox News that the agency did not provide grants to the Open Society Foundation (OSF) in Albania.

Documents published by Judicial Watch show that this is technically true. Instead, the US Embassy in Tirana and Soros’s Open Society Foundation “each provided funding to a local organization to conduct a public opinion poll on attitudes towards the Judicial Reform effort,” according to a document from February 2017.

The first poll, mentioned in an April 2016 memo, had the OSF ask Albanians about their “knowledge, support, and expectations on justice reform.” The OSF survey showed that 91 percent of respondents support judicial reform to some degree.

“For decades, there has been broad bipartisan agreement in Washington, DC, on the need to promote democracy and human rights abroad,” a spokesperson for OSF told Fox News in a statement, adding, “Of late there has been an unfortunate and misguided effort to politicize this process.”

Fitton and Judicial Watch were especially critical of US Ambassador to Albania Donald Lu, a holdover from the Obama administration whom they accuse of having inappropriately close ties to Soros. The embassy in Tirana, they point out, frequently asks representatives of Soros’s Open Society Foundation to “participate in technical reviews” of applications for funding the USAID receives, according to a February 2017 memo.

Judicial Watch accuses Lu of interfering in Albanian politics by backing the country’s socialist government at the expense of the opposition. In May 2017, the group said, Lu declared that the US would recognize the results of the Albanian general election even if the opposition refused to participate.

In March 2017, five Republican senators wrote to then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, asking about the reports that US taxpayer funds were spent on interfering in internal politics of countries like Albania, as well as neighboring Macedonia.

“This includes reports of diplomats playing political favorites, USAID funds supporting extreme and sometimes violent political activists, and the US government working to marginalize the moderates and conservatives in leadership roles,” Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) said at the time, adding that “this behavior is unacceptable and must be halted immediately.”

Judicial Watch has also made FOIA requests about the activities of Soros groups in Macedonia, Romania and Colombia.

Last month, the political establishment in Washington was up in arms over the Trump administration’s proposal to cut the budget for “democracy promotion” activities abroad, specifically funding for the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and its partisan adjuncts, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI).

A group backed by billionaire George Soros is planning nationwide “take to the streets” protests if President Donald Trump fires special counsel Robert Mueller before Christmas. Trump said he isn’t considering the move.

“This is our moment to stand up to protect our democracy. Let’s mobilize to show that we won’t let Donald Trump become the authoritarian that he aspires to be,” MoveOn.org said on its website about the protests. “The law applies to all of us, and it’s essential that it also applies to the most powerful people in our country.”

The organizer said firing the special counsel “would be a constitutional crisis for our country” and would “demand an immediate and unequivocal response to show that we will not tolerate abuse of power from Donald Trump.”

While MoveOn.org is primarily funded by small-dollar contributions from its millions of members, major contributors in the past included financier George Soros and Peter B Lewis, chief executive of Progressive Corp. Soros gave $ 1.46 million to the group’s Voter Fund during the 2004 election cycle.

After returning from the White House from Camp David on Sunday, Trump was asked by reporters if he was considering dismissing the special counsel, after it was revealed Mueller had obtained access to thousands of emails exchanged by officials of Trump’s transition team.

“No, I am not,” the president said.

Mueller was appointed by the Justice Department’s Deputy Director Rod Rosenstein in May to oversee the investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible ties of Trump’s campaign associates to Russia.

In October, Mueller indicted Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort and his business associate Rick Gates for several counts of tax fraud and conspiracy. The charges have nothing to do with Manafort’s campaign work, but involve his lobbying work for the Ukrainian government.

Earlier this month, Trump’s former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to FBI agents about the content of his conversations with the Russian ambassador six weeks after the election.

The General Service Administration had improperly provided the transition records to Mueller’s team, Trump’s general counsel Kory Langhofer said in a letter to congressional committee chairs.

The emails in question were provided to Mueller’s team in September, in response to requests from the FBI, but the transition team didn’t learn about it until last week, Langhofer said in a letter sent to the House Oversight and Senate Homeland Security committees, calling the disclosure “unauthorized.” A copy of the letter was obtained by the AP.

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland), the ranking member on the House Oversight and Government Reform committee, dismissed the transition’s arguments that GSA shouldn’t have turned over the records.

President Trump has repeatedly insisted that he has no plans to fire Mueller. That hasn’t stopped elected officials such as Representative Jackie Speier (D-California), who claimed on KQED on Friday that Republicans are trying to shut down the House Intelligence Committee’s probe into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 elections.

“I believe the President wants all of this shut down,” Speier said when asked if she believe House Republicans were bowing to pressure from the White House. “The rumor on the Hill when I left yesterday was that the president was going to make significant speech at the end of the next week. And on December 22, when we are out of DC, he was going to fire Robert Mueller.”

Speier said if Trump did that, it “would cause a constitutional crisis,” and “without a doubt there would be an impeachment effort.”

A spokeswoman for Speier said the congresswoman shared the rumor to put pressure on Trump not to fire Mueller.

Erica Anderson, Partnerships Manager at Google News Lab, announced Thursday that the company will partner with the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) at the Poynter Institute to “fact-check” news stories that appear on the search engine.

“With so much information available around the clock and across devices, being able to understand at a glance what’s true and what’s false online is increasingly important,” Anderson, said in a statement.

She said Google will work with the IFCN in three ways: increase the number of fact-checkers by holding “global fact-check workshops” and offering stipends for new fact-checking organizations; expanding the IFCN Code of Principles into new regions; and providing fact-checking tools to the IFCN community at no charge.

The code of principles requires news agencies to obey five commitments to ensure news agencies remain honest, transparent and nonpartisan. There are 36 signatories to the Code of Principles, including the left-leaning Washington Post Fact Checker and other fact-checking organizations from around the world.

Alexios Mantzarlis, the director of the IFCN at Poynter released a statement, saying the 12-month partnership will “enable the IFCN to encourage more fact-checking around the world, while also helping raise the standards and impact of existing initiatives.”

The Poynter Institute for Media Studies is openly funded by Soros’ Open Society Foundations. Soros, a veteran billionaire vulture-capitalist, supported former secretary of state Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election.

Recently, Soros was criticised for transferring nearly $ 18 billion to his Open Society Foundations, making it the second largest charity in the US after the Bill and Melinda Gates’ Foundation. The charity has been accused of inciting so-called “color revolutions” to install governments friendly to the US.  

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said through a statement that certain Soros funded organizations “defame the Jewish state and seek to deny it the right to defend itself.”

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also accused Soros of using his money to fund liberal NGOs influencing the European Union to accept asylum seekers in order to create a “new, mixed, Muslimized Europe.”

The Poynter Institute also receives funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the National Endowment for Democracy and the Omidyar Network, which is the nonprofit for liberal billionaire and founder of eBay, Pierre Omidyar.

The Google-Poynter partnership was announced days before executives from Google, Facebook and Twitter are all scheduled to testify before the Senate and House Intelligence Committees on alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Facebook, which has come under scrutiny for their part in spreading false news stories during the election, has also partnered with the Poynter Institute to launch its “disputed” news tag on stories deemed false by fact-checking organisations working with the social media giant.

Stories flagged by Facebook users as ‘fake news’ are passed on to these fact- checkers for verification. If the fact-checkers agree that the story is misleading, it will appear in news feeds with a “disputed” tag, along with a link to a corresponding article explaining why it might be false.

Google News Lab previously partnered with The Poynter Institute to introduce a “Fact Check tag” that labels news articles the company determines might contain fact-checks in order to “help readers find fact-checking in large news stories.”

A Republican congressman from Arizona suggested that a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia in August was organized by an “Obama sympathizer” and backed by financier George Soros in an interview that aired Thursday evening. 

Rep. Paul Gosar told Vice News that the Antifa group — short for anti-fascist — was responsible for the outbreak of violence in Charlottesville.

“Because let’s look at the person that actually started the rally,” Gosar said. “It’s come to our attention that this is a person from Occupy Wall Street that was an Obama sympathizer.”

Jason Kessler, the leader of “Unite the Right,” the group that organized the rally, admitted he did vote for President Barack Obama and had attended an Occupy Wall Street rally, though his views have since become more extremist and racist. The Southern Poverty Law Center outlined Kessler’s rightward shift, which began in 2013 after he was angered when a PR executive was publicly excoriated and fired over a racist tweet. 

The rally in Charlottesville, which left a 32-year old woman dead and multiple injured, broke out after white nationalists held a torchlight vigil to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from a park in the town, and were met by a large group of counterprotestors.

Gosar further suggested that George Soros, a billionaire Democratic donor, had provided financial backing to the Charlottesville rally organizers as some sort of subversive attempt to discredit the white nationalist groups. This theory has been widely debunked.

“You know, you know George Soros is one of those people that actually helps back these individuals. Who is he? I think he’s from Hungary. I think he was Jewish. And I think he turned in his own people to the Nazis,” Gosar said.

“Better be careful where we go with those,” he added.

Soros, who is Jewish and was only 13 years old when Nazi Germany occupied Hungary, has frequently been cast as a scapegoat by conspiracy-minded public figures on the right, including Alex Jones of Infowars.
