Special counsel Bill Forsyth released a report that accuses the school of fighting the release of certain relevant documents and releasing others that were heavily redacted or irrelevant. It says these actions hampered the investigation.

“Their biggest concern was the reputation of the university,” Forsyth said at a news conference in Lansing that was lifestreamed.

“Just come out with what happened here,” he said. “I believe they could disclose some of this without violating lawyer-clientprivilege.” School officials didn’t immediately reply to an email seeking comment about the report.

Hundreds of women and girls, most of them gymnasts, accused Nassar of molesting them under the guise that it was treatment during his time working for Michigan State and USA Gymnastics, which trained Olympians. He received long prison terms after pleading guilty to child pornography possession and sexual abuse charges. Forsyth and his team of prosecutors and investigators have brought criminal charges against five people, including former Michigan State President Lou Anna Simon . She was chargedlast month with lying to police during an investigation. One of her attorneys has said the charges are baseless.

According to the report, a major piece of the investigation involved interviewing survivors. Of the 280 interviewed, 13 saidthey reported the abuse to an identified employee at or around the time it happened, it says. Michigan State softball, volleyball, and track and field athletes have said they told an assistant coach and trainers about Nassar’s inappropriate behaviour. The school in May reached a $ 500 million settlement with 332 women and girls who said they were assaulted by Nassar.

Forsyth was appointed by Michigan state Attorney General Bill Schuette to investigate the school’s handling of Nassar. The investigation is ongoing, though Forsyth said he is stepping down at the end of this month when his contract ends.

Schuette unsuccessfully ran for governor last month and is leaving his office to make way for incoming Democrat General DanaNessel on Jan. 1. Nessel said in an emailed statement to the Lansing State Journal that she will carry on the investigation into what she called Michigan State’s “callous disregard” for victims.

Investigators have said Nassar’s crimes were mostly committed in Michigan at a campus clinic, area gyms and his Lansing-area home. Accusers also said he molested them at a gymnastics-training ranch in Texas, where Nassar also faces charges, and atnational and international competitions.

The U.S. Olympic Committee fired chief of sport performance Alan Ashley this month after an independent investigation concluded that neither he nor former CEO Scott Blackmun elevated concerns about the Nassar allegations when they were first reportedto them. The investigation report detailed an overall lack of response when the USOC leaders first heard about the allegationsfrom the then- president of USA Gymnastics, Steve Penny.

Forsyth said his investigation has been limited to investigating the university: “Who knew what, when they knew it and what,if anything, they did about it.” His report says the university has taken steps to improve its sexual misconduct procedures, but the repeated failures were made by people, not policies. “Until there is a top-down cultural change at MSU, survivorsand the public would be rightly sceptical of the effectiveness of any set of written policies,” it concludes.

Coronation Street spoilers: Peter Barlow to have SORDID affair with unexpected flame https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-peter-barlow-to-have-sordid-affair-with-unexpected-flame/ https://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-peter-barlow-to-have-sordid-affair-with-unexpected-flame/#respond Fri, 14 Dec 2018 11:27:38 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/coronation-street-spoilers-peter-barlow-to-have-sordid-affair-with-unexpected-flame/

Coronation Street’s Peter Barlow (played by Chris Gascoyne) has certainly had his fair share of women on the soap.

He’s been through three women already in serious relationships and has broken many more hearts along the way.

However, in the coming weeks, he will set his eyes on a new lady.

It is believed Peter will fall into the lap of Abi Franklin (Sally Carmen) in 2019.

According to The Sun, the Corrie bad boy will be a part of a hilarious new sketch over Christmas.

When asked about the upcoming storyline, Sally hinted it will be a saucy affair indeed.

The actress teased: “I’m ringing that man’s bell like Quasimodo on steroids.”

She went on: “It’s like being with a randy octopus.”

A soap source added to the publication: “Abi seems to want a full-blown relationship but clearly Peter is just up for sex.

“It’ll play out in the New Year, before Peter’s other big storyline which sees his boat go up in flames.”

There will be more drama over the months for the Barlows as they find themselves in the middle of an horrific fire.

Peter planned to go away on his canal boat for a couple months with Simon (Alex Bain).

But disaster strikes when the vessel goes up in flames, leaving Simon and Peter caught in the action.

Will one of them perish in the fire?

Chris has since spoken about a potential exit for Peter, revealing how he would like to see him die.

He is a historical alcoholic and as such Chris thinks he could go out drinking.

However, could his plan be completely scuppered by a mid-life crisis?

“He’s always had a crisis, I don’t think mid-life is any different. You’d think it would be a car, but it’s not, it’s a boat, Chris told press including Express.co.uk.

“He sees the boat as way to be himself and leave, but it’s a dream.”

Coronation Street continues tonight on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm

EastEnders spoilers: Bizarre duo to have sordid affair as fans spot MASSIVE clue? https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-bizarre-duo-to-have-sordid-affair-as-fans-spot-massive-clue/ https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-bizarre-duo-to-have-sordid-affair-as-fans-spot-massive-clue/#respond Thu, 08 Nov 2018 01:37:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-bizarre-duo-to-have-sordid-affair-as-fans-spot-massive-clue/

Since Linda Carter (played by Kellie Bright) removed her wedding band, EastEnders  fans have questioned whether she will split with husband Mick Carter (Danny Dyer).

The Queen Vic landlady has been unsure about the father of her four children after he was sent to prison for the attempted murder of Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ), a crime he did not commit.

In Mick’s absence, the pub owner has grown close to Stuart, who shot himself inside her establishment earlier this year and blamed the incident on her partner.

Now, fans of the popular BBC  drama series think Linda and Stuart will become an item, leaving Mick in pieces.

Suspicion amongst viewers grew when Stuart turned up at the Albert Square pub to visit Linda and told her he had seen a therapist about the shooting.

“I kept trying to get out of here, but there’s Mick with a gun. I thought I was gonna die, right here,” Stuart told Linda.

“I didn’t recognise him, Linda. What’s happened to the man who you and I love?”

Shortly after, the pair looked at an old family photo, which prompted Stuart to ask: “Do you think you ever really know someone?

“I don’t hate him, you know? I was angry, furious even, but the love, you know? It don’t go away, does it?”

Later, when Stuart returned home after talking about Mick, he sent Linda a text message, which read: “Thanks x.”

Despite initially struggling to include a kiss in her reply to Stuart, Linda eventually added one to the end of her message.

Upon seeing their exchange fans of the show rushed to Twitter to discuss whether Linda and Stuart would become an item.

One person asked: “OMG is Linda gonna get together with Stuart in EastEnders? His face says he probably got her where he wants her.”(sic)

Another cried: “Linda what are you doing no,” while a third added: “Linda is getting me so angry EastEnders.”

A fourth commented: “What was Linda playing at with the ‘x’ at the end of her reply text to Stuart? I think the two of them will become an item!”

Another furious viewer tweeted: “Linda is absolutely disgusting, I hate this vile storyline EastEnders.”

Meanwhile, someone else begged: “Seriously hope this is a Linda bluff to trap Stuart. If that ends up with a kiss I am literally NEVER watching EastEnders ever again.”

Another exclaimed: “There must be some sort of twist coming in EastEnders. There is no way Linda wouldn’t stand by Mick. If the writers tear them apart I would be gutted!”

Will Linda and Stuart get together and crush Mick’s hopes of returning home from prison to a loving wife?

EastEnders continues tonight on BBC One at 7.30pm.

The Sordid and Dangerous History of Hazing https://briefnews.eu/the-sordid-and-dangerous-history-of-hazing/ https://briefnews.eu/the-sordid-and-dangerous-history-of-hazing/#respond Sat, 29 Sep 2018 12:28:00 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-sordid-and-dangerous-history-of-hazing/

Like many college freshmen today, 18-year-old Mortimer Marcellus Leggett had high hopes when he entered Cornell University in the fall of 1873. He planned to become a patent lawyer like his father and aspired to join the school’s chapter of the prestigious Kappa Alpha Society. About a month later, young Mort Leggett’s battered body had to be retrieved from the bottom of one of the gorges that Ithaca, New York, is famous for after a Kappa Alpha initiation activity went horribly wrong. The following day, Cornell’s student newspaper dryly noted that Leggett had died while fulfilling “society purposes.”

While Leggett’s death may have been the first recorded fatality from fraternity hazing in American history, it was far from the last. For years, these modern rites of passage have often ended in harmful, and sometimes lethal, mishaps. The annals of higher education are filled with tales of pledges who have died of alcohol poisoning or when the grave they dug for themselves collapsed; who have never returned from the “one-way rides” they received to remote locations; who have lost testicles because of violent wedgies (true story). And so as another cohort of college freshmen enter the hallowed halls of academia this autumn, it’s important to remember that hazing in higher education has a long and checkered history, one that does not begin with Animal House, or even the advent of fraternities and sororities.

The cover-ups that we see on college campuses today go back all the way to the first fraternity hazing death in 1873.

Hank Nuwer, editor of Hazing: Destroying Young Lives

The harsh initiation practices now called hazing have been around for centuries. And their association with higher education is pretty much as old as higher education itself, going back to the founding of Plato’s academy in around 387 B.C. Plato himself lamented the “practical jokes played by unruly young men that injured the hazed and citizens who got in the way,” and likened the perpetrators to wild animals. Hazing, or pennalism as it was known at the time, continued into the Middle Ages and the founding of the first universities. In the 14th century, the University of Paris forbade the practice. Martin Luther endured hazing as a student in Erfurt, and advocated for the practice as a means of bolstering young men’s ability to meet life’s challenges.

Pennalism, including the practice of “fagging” (as it was called at universities like Cambridge and Oxford in the U.K.), was primarily a means of humiliating first-year students into acknowledging their inferiority to upperclassmen and converting them into de facto manservants to their collegiate superiors. Often it was not just a private arrangement: In Harvard’s early days, it was dictated by college rules, which required that, among other things, “freshmen run errands for all upperclassmen, never be ‘saucey’ and obey every upperclassman’s order.”

But it was not until extracurricular societies, including almost exclusively male social fraternities, started to proliferate on college campuses during the 19th century that hazing really came into its own. By the time Mort Leggett entered Cornell in 1873, hazing was a fact of life for many freshmen, usually taking the form of being paddled, getting one’s head shaved or performing some sort of physical challenge. The “preliminaries” that Leggett was told he would have to endure to “earn” membership into Kappa Alpha Society entailed being blindfolded and marched at night up a narrow trail adjacent to a ravine. When the young pledge was left unattended for a moment, he lost his bearings and tumbled into the gorge below. Neither KAS nor any of its members received any punishment, and key details of the incident, including that Leggett had been blindfolded, were omitted from accounts of the time, says Hank Nuwer, editor of Hazing: Destroying Young Lives. “The cover-ups that we see on college campuses today go back all the way to the first fraternity hazing death in 1873.”

And even when colleges took action against the perpetrators of hazing-related incidents, there was little true condemnation. Often when an offender was expelled from school, says Nuwer, practically the entire student body would walk him to the train station and treat him as a departing hero. It was only in the early 20th century, once hazing deaths became increasingly commonplace, that college administrators started to take notice and to call for an end to the practice. But, as still happens today, says Nuwer, support for the organizations and their rites among prominent alumni has blunted any real reform.

Hazing on U.S. campuses has continued largely unabated for much of the past century. One of the unintended consequences of the GI Bill, which helped millions of war veterans get a college education, was the introduction of even more physically strenuous — and hence more dangerous — rites into hazing’s arsenal. After hazing deaths fell off for a time during the Vietnam War (when fraternity membership was associated with being “square”), they came roaring back with the Animal House days of the late 1970s and ’80s when the overconsumption of alcohol grew to be an even more prominent feature.

In theory, hazing is less tolerated than ever today. Most national fraternal organizations in the U.S. have outlawed it, universities assure concerned parents it is not condoned on their campuses, and the prevalence of smartphones makes it even harder to cover up incidents. Still, for all the talk, says Nuwer, hazing remains prevalent. There has been at least one hazing death in the U.S. every year since 1961, and the practice is expanding in other countries, like India, where it is considered an essential part of the college experience. As Nuwer puts it: “No one has found the magic button to get an entire culture to stop.”

Army orgy: British troops 'smuggle prostitute into barracks & film sordid sex romp' https://briefnews.eu/army-orgy-british-troops-smuggle-prostitute-into-barracks-film-sordid-sex-romp/ https://briefnews.eu/army-orgy-british-troops-smuggle-prostitute-into-barracks-film-sordid-sex-romp/#respond Thu, 05 Jul 2018 14:00:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/army-orgy-british-troops-smuggle-prostitute-into-barracks-film-sordid-sex-romp/

British Army soldiers are under investigation after being accused of smuggling a woman into their army barracks and filming themselves having sex with her. Video purporting to show the tryst has since been shared online.

Four soldiers from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards based at Leuchars Station in Fife, eastern Scotland, could reportedly face severe penalties if found guilty of breaching army standards.

“We are aware of the video and the Army are investigating,” a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense told the Scottish Daily Record. “Any breach of the Army’s values and standards is taken very seriously and action, up to and including dismissal, may be taken.”

The Daily Record quotes a source as saying the woman is a prostitute hired by the men to have sex with them all for £200. The video is said to show two men having sex with the woman while another man performs a sex act on himself. The fourth man is seen filming the events as well as himself.

“They smuggled her into the base and took her to quarters. The video is doing the rounds and somehow landed with their commanding officers, who have told them they’re going to be charged,” the source reportedly told the paper. RT has contacted the MoD for comment but has yet to receive a response.

The news comes on the same day as the queen, the brigade’s official colonel-in-chief, is due to visit the base to present a new standard to the regiment, the oldest surviving cavalry regiment in the British Army.

From Nazi-themed stag-dos to sordid affairs… here are 7 Tory MPs who got the boot https://briefnews.eu/from-nazi-themed-stag-dos-to-sordid-affairs-here-are-7-tory-mps-who-got-the-boot/ https://briefnews.eu/from-nazi-themed-stag-dos-to-sordid-affairs-here-are-7-tory-mps-who-got-the-boot/#respond Wed, 08 Nov 2017 17:58:42 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/from-nazi-themed-stag-dos-to-sordid-affairs-here-are-7-tory-mps-who-got-the-boot/ Taxpayer-funded duck houses, Nazi-themed stag-dos, affairs involving Russian spies – you name it, a Tory’s been sacked for it. As Priti Patel awaits her fate for secretly meeting Israeli politicians, here’s a very small selection of Tory downfalls.

Aidan Burley

MP for Cannock Chase Aidan Burley was forced to stand down for organizing a Nazi-themed stag-do (or bachelor party) at a posh ski resort in the French Alps. Groom-to-be Mark Fournier was fined £1,250 by a French court for wearing an SS uniform and insignia which had been supplied by the MP: Burley was the best man.

Groomsmen allegedly chanted offensive Nazi slogans in a crowded restaurant, including ‘Hitler, Hitler, Hitler,’ and toasted the Third Reich. One of the party allegedly taunted a waiter simply for being French.

Burley was sacked as a ministerial aide when details of the episode first emerged in 2011. When a 2014 report commissioned by the party found Burley acted in a “stupid and offensive way” by buying a Nazi uniform, Burley stood down from parliament altogether.

David ‘from toe job to no job’ Mellor

National Heritage Secretary David Mellor was forced to resign in 1992 following his affair with Antonia de Sancha. “Minister of Fun” Mellor – who at the time was 43 and had been married for 18 years – had been conducting an affair with the 31-year-old actress.

The Sun paid de Sancha for her kiss-and-tell story, wherein she claimed Mellor enjoyed spanking and toe sucking, and that they would make love while he was dressed in a Chelsea FC shirt. She later admitted to having stretched the truth.

Although then-Prime Minister John Major stood by Mellor through this particular episode, further scandals – including the revelation he had accepted a holiday gift from a woman connected with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) – forced him to stand down.

Following embarrassing scandals like Mellor’s, Major used the 1993 Conservative Party Conference to launch his ‘Back to Basics’ campaign, intended as a nostalgic appeal to traditional values.

It spectacularly backfired, however, when a succession of Tory MPs were caught up in scandals. Like the time Transport Minister Steven Norris was accused of having five mistresses over 25 years, or when MP Michael Brown resigned following allegations of an affair with a 20-year-old male student (the homosexual age of consent, now 18, was 21 at the time), or when MP Stephen Milligan died of auto-erotic asphyxiation.

Mellor’s legacy lives on through a thinly-veiled Little Britain character, as well as Viz comic’s Baxter Basics MP whose antics continue to this day.

John Profumo’s Cold War scandal of sex and espionage

John Profumo, who was secretary of state for war, resigned (or was pushed out) in 1963 after admitting he had lied to the House of Commons about his relationship with a 19-year-old model and showgirl, Christine Keeler.

What made the affair particularly salacious is that Keeler was allegedly also having an affair with a Russian spy. This was, of course, at the height of the Cold War.

The affair helped to bring down the Conservative government of Harold Macmillan and is seen as the “first public humiliation of a minister for a sex scandal.”

Viggers and an island fit for ducks

Tory MP Sir Peter Viggers was forced to resign in 2009 over an outrageous expenses claim for a £1,645 “floating duck island” for his pond. Other expenses included £30,000 towards gardening at his home, including £500-worth of manure. Can you believe this s***t?

He described the decision to charge the taxpayer for the duck house as a “ridiculous and grave error of judgment.” The ducks had never liked the feature and it was no longer being used, he added.

Liam Fox and his blurred interests

Liam Fox resigned as Secretary of State for Defence in 2011 after breaking the ministerial code by letting best man and former flatmate Adam Werritty into official meetings. It emerged that Werritty, a lobbyist, met Fox on 18 foreign trips despite having no official role.

Fox admitted the distinction between his personal interest and government activities had become “blurred.”

Fox is now International Trade Secretary.

Boris ‘blundering’ Johnson

The original comeback kid! Boris Johnson was sacked from the Tory frontbench in 2004 over lurid claims about his love life. His fate was sealed by the mother of his alleged mistress, Petronella Wyatt, who said her daughter had become pregnant by him and had an abortion.

Johnson, married with four children, categorically denied the allegations as an “inverted pyramid of piffle.” However Tory leader Michael Howard relieved the then-arts spokesman and party vice-chairman of his responsibilities.

Blundering Boris is again a prime candidate for the sack. Last week, the Foreign Secretary made incorrect comments in Parliament which may land British mother Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe five extra years in an Iranian jail.

It’s worth nothing he was also fired from his job as a journalist at the Times for making up quotes. On top of several car-crash interviews and a list of other gaffes as long as your arm, the question has to be: How does this guy keep coming back?

Michael Fallon and the Westminster sex scandal

Former Defence Secretary Michael Fallon was the first minister to resign from May’s government as a result of the growing sexual harassment scandal at Westminster. He claimed his behavior in the past may have “fallen short,” admitting to inappropriately touching a female journalist.

Since then, it emerged he was forced to quit after Cabinet colleague Andrea Leadsom accused him of making lewd sexual remarks. When Leadsom complained of cold hands, he reportedly told her: “I know where you can put them to warm them up.” It has also been alleged that after a lunch near Westminster he made a lunge at a young female journalist and tried to kiss her on the lips.

Emmerdale spoilers: Emma Barton's sordid secret EXPOSED – but who will she kill next? https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-emma-bartons-sordid-secret-exposed-but-who-will-she-kill-next/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-emma-bartons-sordid-secret-exposed-but-who-will-she-kill-next/#respond Fri, 29 Sep 2017 03:37:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-emma-bartons-sordid-secret-exposed-but-who-will-she-kill-next/

After trying to trick Emma (played by Gillian Kearney) into thinking her late husband James (Bill Ward) was haunting her earlier during yesterday’s episode, Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) forged ahead with her plan to seek vengeance on the murderer in tonight’s instalment of the ITV soap.

In the chaos of her spooky antics, however, Gabby lost the crucifix pendant given to her by her father Ashley (John Middleton), helping Emma to piece together the fact that the teen was duping her.

While her younger brother Arthur (Alfie Clarke) kept Emma busy, the schoolgirl stole her keys and sneaked into her house, frantically tearing the place apart to find her beloved jewellery.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before Emma cottoned on and came rushing back to her house, terrified that the incriminating memory card might be found.

After nearly being caught red-handed, Gabby crouched in the cupboard before spying Emma clutching the SD card to her chest in relief.

When she left the room, Gabby quickly snatched the evidence, escaping behind Emma’s back and heading back to the safety of her own home with her brother.

Soon the youngsters were watching the horrific footage of Emma tormenting their late father Ashley (John Middleton) to find out how much he knew about her killing James.

The second instalment of tonight’s Emmerdale double bill ended on a dramatic note, with Gabby vowing to make her pay for her sins, telling Arthur: “We can’t let her get away with this. Tomorrow we’re going to teach her a lesson she’ll never forget.”

As Emma’s web of lies finally starts to untangle around her, who could be the next victim to fall at her hands?

Next week’s shocking episodes will see at least one character die as Emma is backed into a corner, leading to explosive events including a fire and a shooting.

Emmerdale continues tomorrow at 7pm on ITV.

Doctor Foster season 2: Gemma leaves in shock EXIT as Tom’s sordid secret is EXPOSED https://briefnews.eu/doctor-foster-season-2-gemma-leaves-in-shock-exit-as-toms-sordid-secret-is-exposed/ https://briefnews.eu/doctor-foster-season-2-gemma-leaves-in-shock-exit-as-toms-sordid-secret-is-exposed/#respond Wed, 20 Sep 2017 07:45:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/doctor-foster-season-2-gemma-leaves-in-shock-exit-as-toms-sordid-secret-is-exposed/

The latest instalment of the BBC drama was as eventful as ever, as Gemma’s (played by Suranne Jones) son Tom’s (Tom Taylor) secret was exposed, after his school friend Isabelle came clean and said that he had been forceful towards her at a party.

She explained: ”It was at the party, in Tom’s room. I kissed him and he said, ‘Let’s go outside to get away from people. Stuff happened and then he went off back home.

“We were kissing and it’s ok, it’s good, but I wanted to do more. Then, as we do, I’d had enough and I’d changed my mind. I just didn’t want to, but when I tried to move – he wouldn’t let me, he was grabbing, he got his hands on me really hard, he just wouldn’t stop touching me. I was hitting him and pushing him away but he wouldn’t stop.

“I screamed at him, he took a step back and just started crying, I ran and got away from there as fast as I could. I didn’t tell mum, as nothing really happened, but when Max found out, he asked Tom about it and Tom just hit him. We were trying earlier to sort it out but he just went mental.”

However, when Gemma’s ex-husband Simon (Bertie Carvel) decided to tell Kate Parks (Jodie Corner) what happened, she banned him from coming back into the house.

So, Tom decided to admit to his mother: “I was so drunk, I don’t really remember what happened, all I remember is her crying. I’m so, I’m so sorry, I’m s**t, it’s s**t.”

The pair then decided to flee the town for good, after Gemma – who sent Simon a text to say that he’d “won” – insisted that she would always have Tom’s back no matter what.

Ahead of the shock exit, fans of the much-loved series were left shocked last night as leading lady Suranne stripped off for a steamy romp with her cheating ex.

The GP and her former spouse had been discussing how to handle their son’s destructive behaviour at school when things heated up.

The pair had been at each other’s throats for the past two episodes but last night they gave in to temptation and enjoyed a steamy sex session in the living room.

Doctor Foster continues on Tuesday at 9pm on BBC One.

EastEnders spoilers: Jane to be KILLED OFF as she discovers Steven’s sordid secret? https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-jane-to-be-killed-off-as-she-discovers-stevens-sordid-secret/ https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-jane-to-be-killed-off-as-she-discovers-stevens-sordid-secret/#respond Thu, 31 Aug 2017 20:14:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-jane-to-be-killed-off-as-she-discovers-stevens-sordid-secret/

Clearly suspicious, Jane (played by Laurie Brett) began rummaging around for evidence after Steven (Aaron Sidwell) came clean to her and his father Ian (Adam Woodyatt) about having the “deadly disease”.

She eventually found a packet of pills in the drawer, before then finding the packaging in the bin, but the box clearly revealed that the drugs he’d been “taking” were meant for animals.

EastEnders viewers are well aware that it was Steven’s secret lover Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald) – who he has been cheating on his girlfriend Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) with – that gave him the pills in a bid to make the illness look more “realistic”, but what is going to happen now that Jane finally knows what’s really going on?

Viewers watched on tonight as Jane also saw that Max (Jake Wood) had left a voicemail on Steve’s secret phone, with it looking like she’s going to be discovering all about his sordid revenge plot, as well.

But, will the tables turn and Steven and/or Max now be seeking revenge on Jane? Will she make it out alive?

A teaser trailer has already shown Max telling Steven that he “needs to shut Jane up for good”.

Fans of the BBC soap were quick to take to social media to discuss tonight’s goings-on, with one person posting: “Looks like Jane is on to Steven #EastEnders,” while a second urged: “Go on Jane, rat him out!!! #eastenders.”

A third wrote: “I’m happy Jane twigged something isn’t right with Steven’s story. The medication he’s been taken is for a dog #eastenders.”

This comes as the BBC soap teased an enormous gas explosion that will definitely kill at least one character.

The dramatic scenes will air next week and bosses are keen to keep the name of the unfortunate Albert Square resident a secret.

Will Steven be caught up in the blast or will he make it out alive to reek more havoc?

EastEnders continues tomorrow night at 8pm on BBC One.

Bethany (played by Lucy Fallon) finally plucked up the courage to reveal what really happened the night Neil (Ben Cartwright) took her into the bedroom as her groomer Nathan (Christopher Harper) threw another one of his parties.

Her confession came after Craig (Colson Smith) secretly recorded Neil threatening him, when he told him that he was going to be asking to have another mentor in the police force.

Neil could be heard saying on the tape: “If you don’t keep your mouth shut, I’ll do a lot more to Bethany than I did last time. I didn’t hurt her, she loved it!

“Forget about Nathan and all those little slappers, this isn’t a game. If any of this comes out I will ruin you.”

Later on in the episode Neil could then be seen flashing Craig a grimacing look as he was led into a room to be questioned, but will he follow through with his threat? What will happen to Craig now?

As per usual, fans of the ITV soap immediately took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the whole thing.

One person shared: “Bethany’s being incredibly brave #CoronationStreet #Corrie.”

“This is why #Corrie is the best! Bethany you’re a star! Powerful and so well acted and written. I love #coronationstreet @itvcorrie,” a second posted.

A third wrote: “#coronationstreet I was ready to rage, I thought Bethany was going to convince him to delete the recording…”

A further social networker screamed: “#coronationstreet Bethany’s ordeal may finally be over!”
