“PS VR games are not compatible with PS VR2 because PS VR2 is designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience," PlayStation senior vice-president of platform experience Hideaki Nishino said on the latest episode of the Official PlayStation Podcast (as spotted by Nibellion). “PS VR2 has much more advanced features, like [an] all-new controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, inside-out tracking, eye tracking, 3D audio is coming together and 4K HDR, of course. This means developing games for PS VR2 requires a whole different approach than the original PS VR.”
Confirmed on Sony's Official PlayStation Podcast: PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2
(Around 29:10)https://t.co/4BBjwlwitRpic.twitter.com/Dx4AWj3QYg
— Nibel (@Nibellion) September 16, 2022
Some games that do work on PS VR have been confirmed for PS VR2 (such as No Man's Sky), but this is still disappointing news. It means players will not be able to access PS VR games from the new headset, so if they want to be able to dip back into older games from time to time, they'll need to keep the old hardware around.
It seems that newcomers to PlayStation VR will also not be able to check out games they might have heard good things about, such as Astro Bot Rescue Mission or Moss, unless the developers port their games to PS VR2. A more limited library of games may make the new headset a less appealing purchase.
The decision could have something to do with the fact that the PS VR2 uses different tracking methods. The controllers are completely different. PS VR uses the PlayStation Camera and light-based tracking, while Sony tracks the position of the new Sense controllers using infrared LED. Still, those hoping to bring (almost) their entire PS4-era collection of PlayStation games over to the current generation when PS VR2 arrives may feel discouraged.

LG’s 2021 line of A1 OLED TVs first appeared at CES 2021, offering support for Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Filmmaker mode, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and AirPlay 2. You can expect a color accurate picture with deep blacks, though some things are missing like a 120Hz display and HDMI 2.1. Still, at $ 797, the 55-inch A1 will deliver everything else you might want in an OLED TV.

Sony’s A80J OLED TV also popped up at CES 2021, offering Sony’s “Cognitive Processor VR” to improve picture quality on individual elements of a picture. It also delivers 120Hz 4K thanks to an HDMI 2.1 input, along with features like Dolby Vision, Google TV, Google Assistant and Alexa support. Again, it’s available at an all-time low price of $ 1,400, or 44 percent off the regular price.
Finally, if you want a low-profile TV that also doubles as a picture frame and smart device, Samsung’s 55-inch Frame TV is priced at $ 980, another all-time low. It can rotate between portrait and landscape modes and display up to 1,400 works of art, while offering features like 4K upscaling, HDR, Alexa and Samsung’s Tizen smart TV interface.
There are plenty of other good deals as well, including Sony’s 85-inch X91J priced at $ 1,800 (36 percent off), LG’s 65-inch NanoCell 90 series TV at $ 717 (49 percent off) and more. It’s best to act soon, though, as it’s strictly a one-day sale.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 console range has gone from strength-to-strength over the past few years but still faces some stiff competition.
While fans wait on the official PS5 release date announcement, big news has been revealed about one of its competitors.
It has now been revealed that the Nintendo Switch outsold the PS4 in a key market in 2018.
“Nintendo Switch generated the highest December month hardware dollar sales for a single platform since the Nintendo Wii in December 2009, and achieved the highest December unit sales for a single platform since December 2010,” the NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella confirmed this week.
It was also confirmed that the Switch became the best-selling console in the US in 2018, smashing Sony’s PS4.
“Nintendo Switch ends 2018 as the year’s best-selling hardware platform in both units and dollars,” Piscatella added.
“Annual unit and dollar sales of Nintendo Switch are the highest annual total for any hardware platform since the PlayStation 4 in 2015.”
But that doesn’t mean that Sony PlayStation hasn’t had their own good news to celebrate.
A new demo recently shared by a Studio working closely with the tech giant may have given us a peek at what is being worked on for the PS5 release.
Gran Turismo Sport was recently used as a piece for a very impressive Sony showcase at CES.
An 8K display, 98-inch LCD television, called the Z9G was videoed running GT Sport in impressive visual form.
Using tech wizardry involving upscaling, it certainly shows the PS4 game in a great light.
However, while this demo looks impressive, it’s almost certain that the PlayStation 5 will not offer 8K support.
Without the real consumer need, it seems unlikely that Sony could package such a device for the mass market.
What it does show is a company working on new techniques to make their games look great.
The series creator Kazunori Yamauchi recently talked up what could be coming next and also offered some interesting insight.
Yamauchi reportedly told Finder.com: “It takes six months to create a single car.
“It’s over-specced for PS4 Pro. So we are building for future versions of the console rather than the one we see today. I think it would be no problem to run it at 8K even.”
It’s still unclear when we will learn more about the PS5 and when it will be released in the UK and United States.
Piscatella recently shared a new prediction on when we might hear more about the PlayStation 5 and it’s good news for gamers.
According to the NPD analyst, PS5 will be announced later this year, along with Microsoft’s next console. This will be followed by both consoles hitting shelves in 2020.
Sony themselves have confirmed that they are set to host their own tech shows this year, although they haven’t revealed in what form they will come.
As there will be no PlayStation presence at E3 in 2019, it would certainly seem appropriate for the tech company to show off their next gaming machine at their own event.
Fans have also spotted that Sony PlayStation has started advertising positions for ambitious sounding game projects.
Multiple positions need filling, and from the sound of some of the job listings, a new third-person adventure could be in the works.
Described as “the next chapter of cinematic storytelling,” it would make sense that something like this would be being made for the next-gen.
A Lead Character Artist is needed at Sony Interactive Entertainment PlayStation, with numerous references made to joining the teams behind hits like Uncharted and The Last of Us.
So if Sony is looking to make a generational jump within the next few years, it sounds like they will have some special projects to show off.
And with the latest predictions being made by analysts, it sounds like PS5 release new isn’t that far away.
An ambitious new studio is currently hiring in the UK for what sounds to be a big PS4 games project.
Several job listings have been posted online that suggests just this, and reveal that it’s all going towards original PlayStation VR games.
The department for the new role is listed at a Manchester Studio but will be based mainly in London.
The Senior Level Designer post is currently open to applicants and appears to be for an existing team.
Anyone who wants to apply must have already shipped two games that have been deemed “Successful”.
The official blurb reads: “An exciting opportunity to join an ambitious new studio creating original games for PlayStation VR. Sony’s new VR studio is co-located in both Manchester & London.
“We are looking for an experienced senior level designer to join us in our London office. You will be skilled in creating level layouts, player objectives & enemy placements to deliver high quality, exciting missions.
“Having shipped several successful games, you will be excited by the prospect of applying your level design knowledge to Virtual Reality.”
Not much is know about Sony’s PlayStation VR game plans for 2019, but this could be part of an upcoming reveal.
However, while fans are hoping to hear more about Sony PlayStation’s plans for PSVR this year, it appears one project is getting a big free trial very soon.
Megalith launched earlier this month and brought the MOBA genre to the PlayStation VR.
The game currently has a pretty limited roster of “Titans” to use and is something that will need to change soon.
Plenty of feedback has been shared with developers Disruptive Games, who have confirmed what they are planning to do next.
This will include bringing new “Expansion” Titans to the game, which will be available to unlock in a number of ways.
“Expansion Titans can be purchased in the store but will also be earnable using earned currency the full game in a future patch,” a message from the development team reads.
“This gives players who own the full game the choice to grind out expansion Titans with free currency or purchase them immediately without a grind.
“We believe these upcoming changes will help reward players for their time investment as well open the gates for new players to experience Megalith.
“The ability to earn Thorn and Shade via earned currency will be released soon after the trial is deployed.
“We will share more information as we approach the release of these features.”
The other good news for PlayStation VR fans is that Disruptive Games are also planning to launch a new free trial of Megalith.
“We are working on a trial version of the game,” the dev statement adds.
“This will allow anyone to try Megalith for free and play with those who already own the full game.
“Players in the trial can also earn currency and unlock skins that will carry over to the full game if they chose to purchase it.
“Trial players will be limited to a hero rotation and will need to purchase the full game to have unrestricted access to the starting Titans.”
Many photographers use a DSLR or mirrorless camera to win on Instagram, but let’s face it, camera-to-smartphone transfer apps are generally lousy. Sony has acknowledged as much with the release of Imaging Edge, a new transfer app that replaces the PlayMemories, announced alongside its new A6400 mirrorless camera.
The app offers easier pairing and “instant” image transfers to your smartphone. There’s a new background transfer to smartphone feature that lets you shoot away and store images on your phone without lifting a finger. If you take a lot of photos, it even offers voice input for text captions that can sync between multiple devices. That’ll make things easier to sort or find afterwards, especialyl for pros.
Sony is also updating the desktop version of Imaging Edge with support for time-lapse movie creation to better support new interval recording features on the A7, A9, A6400 and other cameras. The new Imaging Edge app will arrive in March, while the desktop version is coming by the end of January.

The PlayStation 4 has had a lot of success over the past few months directly tied to their console exclusives.
Not available on Nintendo Switch, PC, or Xbox One, games like Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War and Detroit: Become Human have sold millions of copies.
They have also been proven to help PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles, something that has helped Sony reach 88 million units sold.
And it sounds like the company’s next big project is underway and looking for talent to help launch it.
PS4 news this week includes reports of Sony looking to hire for a new development team.
Multiple positions need filling and from the sound of some of the job listings, Sony PlayStation is looking to make something ambitious.
The new third-person adventure is being described as “the next chapter of cinematic storytelling.”
A Lead Character Artist is needed at Sony Interactive Entertainment PlayStation, with numerous references made to joining the team behind hits like Uncharted and The Last of Us.
And from the job description, many fans are hoping that this might be a project tied to a new Uncharted game.
It does sound hopeful, however, it should be noted that this remains pure speculation at this time.
Here’s the official job description, which reads: “Sony PlayStation Visual Arts provides world-class content, development and services to Worldwide Studios.
“We offer a full-service production studio with an emphasis in art, animation, as well as previsualization, character creation, motion capture, software development, face/body scanning, tracking and solving.
“We are looking for a highly talented, motivated and creative Lead Character Artist for the next chapter of cinematic story-telling.
“Here is your chance to be a part of the multi-award winning team responsible for the cinematic performances in premier Sony PlayStation franchises like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Killzone, and other iconic series.
“Our team is always at the cutting edge of technology and partners with the industry’s best minds and companies: Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studios, Guerrilla Games, Japan Studios, and other Sony PlayStation first-party studios.
“This is your opportunity to work closely with game and film industry professionals from all over the world and under one roof.”
Uncharted 4 remains one of the best selling first-party games from Sony PlayStation and is the game to beat when it comes to overall sales.
Could this be a new spin-off adventure set in the Uncharted universe? If it were, PS4 gamers could hope for its release.
However, if this is something much bigger, that would suggest that Sony might be working on a game for the PlayStation 5.
Rumours claim that the PS5 release date will be set for 2020 and include a range of first-party exclusives at launch.
And it’s fair to say that a new Uncharted game would certainly help a new console in the sales department.
Whatever this new project is, it seems likely it won’t be available to play in 2019.
But even if a new exclusive isn’t launched next year, fans know there are plenty that have already been announced.
Titles such as Dreams and Ghost of Tsushima are being launched next year and will be among other ambitious new titles.
Games like The Last of US Part 2 and Death Stranding dropping in the next 12 months wouldn’t help the chances of the PS4 continuing to sell well in 2019.
Sony PlayStation has already been backed to sell over 17 million units next year, which would help push the console even further in the all-time best selling console charts.
According to a report by research firm Strategy Analytics, the Nintendo Switch will be the best-selling console next year, with the PS4 in a close second.
“The report, Global Game Console Market Forecast, predicts that Nintendo will sell 17.3 million Switch consoles worldwide in 2019, while Sony will sell 17.1 million PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles.
“Microsoft will remain in third place, selling 10.0 million Xbox One and Xbox One X devices. The overall console market has performed well in 2018, with total global sales reaching 46.1 million devices, the highest level since 2010.”
Many analysts are expecting Sony to reveal their plans for the future of PlayStation next year, hopefully before E3 2019, which the company will not be attending.
It’s notoriously difficult for streaming music services to get a foothold in Japan — this is a country where CDs still reign (72 percent of music revenue was for physical media in 2017). All the same, Sony and Rhapsody are giving it a shot. They’re launching Japan’s first audiophile-grade streaming music service, Mora Qualitas, in early 2019. Pay ¥1,980 (about $ 17.50) per month and you can listen to lossless FLAC files at up to 24-bit/96kHz quality as long as you have the audio hardware to do it justice.
The service runs Rhapsody’s Napster technology under the hood and will initially run on Macs and Windows PCs, although there are promises of support for “many other platforms” in the future.
Mora Qualitas could fare better than Spotify and other rival both through the support of a domestic giant like Sony as well as its aim at an underserved audience. It still faces a slew of challenges, though. Music licensing is much trickier in Japan, and it might not go far if Sony and Rhapsody can’t promise a deep catalog. More importantly, the Japanese music scene has historically thrived on physical collectibles, including discs. Unless Sony and Rhapsody can convince J-pop fans that it’s easier to stream a hot new single than to rush to the store, they might not fare any better than their predecessors.

If you’re a fan of playing free PS4 games on your PlayStation consoles, there’s been some great news in the last week.
Big release news has been announced for Warframe, a free download on PS4 consoles that doesn’t require a PS Plus subscription to play.
There aren’t that many games on the PS4 that are both free to download and don’t need an active PlayStation Plus account.
But it appears that Warframe is one of the few and is getting a massive update in 2018.
For those who have never played Warframe, the Digital Extremes title is a third-person shooter that can be played cooperatively with other gamers.
Both online and offline gameplay is available with a lot of different modes to choose from.
And if you were thinking about taking it for a spin soon, it could be a good time to join up.
That’s because a massive new expansion is being released later this year, bringing a lot free new content to the game.
The open-world expansion Fortuna is coming to Warframe on PS4 this winter and will allow fans to explore the surface of Venus.
While Warframe has received a fair few expansions in the past, Fortuna is special in that it will add a brand new open-world area to the game.
Following in the footsteps of Eidolon, the Fortuna expansion will add a new city to explore and a map filled with enemies to defeat.
No exact release date has been announced for Fortuna on PS4, although it is expected to land before the end of 2018.
Here are some of the key features included in the PS4 Fortuna expansion:
The New Faction, Solaris United — The cyborg Faction Solaris United live in the Blade-Runner-esque debt-internment colony, Fortuna. Similar to the gathering bazaars of Cetus in Plains of Eidolon, Fortuna is an underground hub city that serves as a factory to clean coolant rivers and doubles as a trading hub for the region. Underneath the facade of harmony and unified labour, however, discontent runs deep.
Dig into the faction’s stories, learn about the plight of The Business, Eudico, Rude Zuud, the Ventkids, and others, and help them fight their oppressors.
Fortuna and The Orb Vallis — The Fortuna expansion takes place underground and above ground, comprising the underground Colony of Fortuna and the surface landscape of The Orb Vallis.
Fortuna is a hub city similar to Cetus in Plains of Eidolon, where players can socialise and pick up bounties and missions from the local Solaris denizens. The surface world of The Orb Vallis is an exotic terrain blanketed with Orokin structures, towering mushroom forests, oceanic flora, and endangered native creatures.
New Combat and Enemy Alert System — The Corpus occupiers, led by the profit-obsessed Nef Anyo, bring new technology, weapons, systems, and warriors to bear. The game’s four quadrants, bases of enemy operations, are patrolled by giant robo-spiders, while mid- and small-size robot spiders appear across the giant terrain.
Players will be prompted to liberate Corpus bases for rewards and can even enter their underground bases. They’re not small! Alongside new Corpus ground troop variants and new kinds of bounties, a new Danger Rating system challenges players to escape or double down.
New Warframe — The bloody, powerful Garuda Warframe offers a deadly combination of health-based abilities to wreak havoc on any enemy in her path. Deployment of her skills will leave you vulnerable with low health but greatly enhanced damage potential.
Skilful Tenno will chain together tactics to keep her energy high while skewering enemies, boosting shields, and leaving a trail of dismembered foes in her wake.
