An Air Canada passenger said her independence was stripped from her when she got off a 10.5-hour flight, only to discover her wheelchair had been damaged.
Maayan Ziv, the CEO of AccessNow, an accessibility app, was flying from Toronto to Israel for an accessibility conference and outlined what happened on Twitter.
"No one told me that the wheelchair was damaged. No one told me that anything had happened," Ziv told The CBC.
"Imagine someone basically chopping off your legs when you arrive somewhere — that's the equivalent of what it feels like," she said.
—Maayan Ziv (@maayanziv) September 8, 2022
The CBC reported the wheelchair was valued at around $ 23,000.
In a statement to the news outlet, Air Canada said the company did not meet their "normal service levels" in this incident and offered the 32-year-old a voucher. Ziv said the voucher was a $ 300 e-coupon.
After the incident, Ziv posted a video on Instagram, saying she feels like people with disabilities aren't seen.
"Too many disabled people have faced this trauma. Our stories, and our lives matter and this cannot continue to happen!," she said.
Air Canada and Ziv did not respond to Insider's requests for comment.

A detailed inventory of the items from the Mar-a-Lago probe showed that the FBI recovered dozens of empty folders marked "classified."
Other folders contained instructions on the outside saying that the contents should be returned "to staff secretary/military aide."
Investigators have so far recovered nearly 100 empty folders, according to the inventory unsealed and released by the Justice Department.
It's unclear where the contents of each empty folder are. But a legal expert who runs a law firm that specializes in national security detailed to The Hill two possible scenarios:
"The least optimistic scenario is that they are nowhere to be found because they are already with someone else," Kel McClanahan, executive director of National Security Counselors, warned.
"The ideal scenario that would describe this is that the empty folders are actually for the records that are somewhere else in the boxes — that someone just didn't keep them in the folder in the way they were supposed to, so they're not actually out there in the wild somewhere," McClanahan said.
Last month, the FBI probed into the former president's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida and recovered several boxes containing classified records that Trump took with him from the White House once he left office, according to the court records made public. Some of the boxes were distinctly marked as "top secret," Insider's Sonam Sheth reported.
Under the Presidential Records Act, he should have turned the records over to the agency upon leaving office.
The Justice Department is now investigating whether Trump violated any laws pertaining to the handling of government documents. A legal analyst has previously said he could receive a 10-year prison sentence if he's convicted of violating the Espionage Act, a law that dates back to World War I that essentially bars anyone from sharing or disseminating information that could potentially harm or disadvantage the US.
Trump has so far denied all assertions of wrongdoing, saying that he had "declassified" the documents. He also said that "everyone ends up having to bring home their work from time to time."

]]>Monday’s episode of The Good Doctor not only addressed racial profiling in modern medicine, but forced one of the residents to take a good, hard look in the mirror and confront her own preconceived notions.
After misdiagnosing a patient, Claire made a disconcerting discovery about certain practices at the hospital. When it comes to pain management, data showed that St. Bonaventure has been under-treating African American and Latinx patients by a considerable margin, and they’ll need to do better. The numbers were crunched after Claire used pattern-processing techniques taught in medical school to treat Zara Norton, a 34-year-old Black female who was rushed to the ER following a cardiac event. Based on her preconceived notions about this “loud and messy” patient, Claire administered an ACE inhibitor to bring down Zara’s blood pressure. Because the result supported Claire’s hypothesis that this was a standard case of hypertension commonly diagnosed among Black women, she nearly missed a diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, where the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick.
When Zara learned that Claire administered the ACE inhibitor based only on assumption, she asked that Dr. Browne be removed from her case. She even requested to be transferred to another hospital for her corrective procedure, but Dr. Glassman convinced her that she’d receive the best possible treatment if she stayed put. During the open-heart surgery, Andrews, Asher and Enrique faced an unforeseen complication. From the observation deck, Claire verbally intervened and saved Zara’s life.
After the surgery, Claire confronted Zara and admitted she was at fault. When Zara arrived at the ER, Claire had made assumptions based on race, not realizing that those assumptions were based on her own experience with racial profiling.
“When I got to med school, people took one look at me and thought they knew who I was: ‘Black girl on financial aid,’” Claire said. “‘She must not be that smart. She must’ve gotten a lot of breaks, will probably need a lot more…’ I worked so hard to prove them wrong, that I wasn’t who they thought I was, that I deserved to be there, that I fit in… When you came into the ER, loud and messy, I saw everything I have tried hard not to be. I think it made me angry, and I’m ashamed of that. And I’m really sorry.”
In response, Zara told Claire that she “used to be that way,” but she got “tired of working that hard to make white people comfortable.” That’s when it clicked for Dr. Browne. And when she discussed the matter further with Enrique, the two bonded over how exhausting it had been to prove themselves and get where they are now.
Elsewhere this week, Lim was challenged by the unique circumstances surrounding a pregnant patient with an aggressive pituitary tumor. The patient was Rio Gutierrez, a trans man whose recent lapse in testosterone injections made it possible for him and his fiancé Eli to conceive a child. His decision to carry the child to term and undergo an alternative procedure nearly cost him his vision, but the chief of surgery saved the day. Rio would make a full recovery.
As for Lim: After weeks of vehemently denying that she needed help to combat her post-traumatic stress disorder, one final episode in the OR doubled as her come-to moment. Once Rio was out of surgery, Lim returned to her office and fetched a prescription from her desk. She later told Andrews and Claire was taking Sertraline (aka Zoloft) to treat her condition.
Meanwhile, after teasing a potential obstacle for Shaun and Lea in the form of second-year radiology resident Dr. Cintia D’Souza, Monday’s episode revealed the big kiss seen in the coming attractions was part of a dream sequence. Despite Park and Jordan advising him otherwise, Shaun told Lea about his work crush. Lea wasn’t fazed, but she needed to help Shaun understand that his sexy dream did not signal a problem in their relationship. In order to make Dr. D’Souza less desirable to her boyfriend, Lea exposed Shaun to the resident’s “irresponsible salad bar practices” — hence the episode’s title. Relationship crisis averted!

In the latest series of Vikings, it has been no secret that Ragner Lothbrok’s (played by Travis Fimmel) son Hvitserk (Marco Ilsø) has been struggling with PTSD and substance abuse. However, no one was expecting this to lead him to commit one of the most shocking acts the series has ever seen.
Hvitserk was haunted by the burning ghost of his dead love Thora (Eve Connolly) and lived in fear Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen) would return.
However, a bad hallucination led him to believe he was killing a huge serpent which represented Ivar’s presence, when in fact he had fatally wounded Lagertha.
Following the murder, Hvitserk fled the scene, leaving Lagertha to enter the Great Hall of Valhalla.
However, things could have been very different.

“And I was glad that, she felt herself, that it was fate that she’d known all the time, that one of them that would kill her.
“So to that extent everything fell into place in the end. But for a long time I didn’t know. I was waiting myself to see what would happen.”
The scene was an emotional watch as fans saw the famous Viking utter her last words, welcoming death.
Years after the Seer had predicted it, a son of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) was the one to kill Lagertha.
Sam Heughan’s Jamie has made a new friend in these exclusive new Outlander photos, but somehow, we dinna think you’ll mind that he’s getting cozy with someone who’s not Claire.
That’s because LOOK AT THAT CUTE LITTLE KITTEN IN JAMIE’S HANDS! Sassenachs and gentlemen, may we introduce you to Adso, the cat?
The “wee cheetie,” as Jamie calls him, makes his first appearance in The Fiery Cross, the Diana Gabaldon novel on which Season 5 of the Starz drama is based. In the book, Jamie gifts his wife with the cat. “He’ll keep the vermin from your surgery,” he tells her, but Claire is dubious. “Well, possibly very small vermin,” she replies. “I think a large cockroach could carry him — is it a him? — off to its lair, let alone a mouse.”
Readers of Gabaldon’s literary series know that Adso becomes a constant presence in the big house on Fraser’s Ridge. The forthcoming season will chronicle Jamie and Claire’s efforts to build a neighborhood around their expanded North Carolina homestead.
Season 4 ended with Roger returning to Brianna after a prolonged absence (during which she gave birth to their son) and Jamie getting orders from the British to hunt down his rebel godfather, Murtagh (who’d managed to hook up with Jamie’s Aunt Jocasta before he went on the lam). The photo at the top of the post seems to depict Himself and Herself deep in some militia-related business: That’s gotta be while Claire is packing ye olde heat, right?
Outlander returns on Sunday, Feb. 16. Check out the photos above and below, then hit the comments: Is Adso incredibly cute or ridiculously cute?

“Holly, you’ll experience this and there will be lots of women watching this who have all had lots of unsolicited advice,” the politician began.
“Some of it very well meaning,” she went on to add, before Holly asked: “Was it from someone within you party that said it?”
Confirming the speculation, Swinson admitted: “In that particular instance it was,” to which Phillip was left stunned.
The host interjected as he wanted some clarity: “Someone in your party said wear a lower cut dress?”

Flights see travellers squashed into seats for many hours and for those who are longer or larger than the average sometimes struggle. Passengers are advised to stretch in their seat or walk around the aircraft during long flights to minimise the risk of blood clots. However, one flier with Israeli carrier Israir Airlines, came up with an inventive way to keep moving during a trip. The surprising move shocked passengers, with many claiming it showed very bad travel etiquette.
The photo was shared by Instagram account passengershaming and has accrued thousands of likes.
The snap captures the plane cabin of the flight – but in the aisle, the legs of a person can be seen sticking up into the air.
They appear to be doing a handstand between the seats, in a very unusual travel move.
The flier is wearing pale blue jeans and no shoes. Their sock-covered feet reach so high up they are touching the roof of the cabin.
Only the face of someone further down the aisle can be seen and they appear to be grinning.
However, it’s unclear if the smile is at the yoga antics or something else.
A cabin crew who was on the Israir flight took to Instagram to explain what had happened.
She pointed out that this sort of behaviour is unacceptable on board a flight and warns others against copying the passenger.
Flight attendant Julietta Weinberg posted: “I was one of the crew members on that flight and I would like to explain you that we did not allow this to happen and we spoke to that person and asked not to do that, but this handstand came over and over at least two times during the flight.
“So the first purpose of that photo was to make evidence in case that this person would damage the ceiling or damage his self and then make a different statement and sue the company, and the second purpose of that was to show others – what not to do during the flight (sic).”
Others have shared their own thoughts on the picture. Some were impressed and others were alarmed.
“I actually want to be friends with this guy,” one person wrote. “That’s fantastic and freaking funny,” another wrote.
Some were much more critical: “If you want to do your ‘yoga routine’ on an airplane then you should fly private,” one posted. Another commented: “Another opportunity to say look at me look at me.”
Some people even joked that they would have pushed them over if they’d been on the flight.
This is far from the first time passengers have been spotted doing bizarre activities on planes.
On another occasion, a male flier was seen playing the flute during a flight. He appears to be playing from a sheet of music in front of him and the instrument is raised to his lips.
To add to the comedy of the unusual scene, the man has long hair and a beard leading some to compare him to Jesus Christ.
Prince Charles is next in line to the throne as Queen Elizabeth II’s son and boasts a number of royal titles. He is most commonly The Prince of Wales but he is also The Duke of Cornwall when visiting the South West of England, and The Duke of Rothesay when he is in Scotland. Those who live abroad can often get confused about what to call the Prince, as one particularly mortifying experience proved. When Charles was in the USA, someone made the grave error of calling him the wrong name.
According to royal expert Brian Hoey’s book ‘Not in Front of the Corgis,’ Charles was not happy about the incident.
“On a visit to the United States, a country he adores, the Prince of Wales was addressed by a well-meaning American: ‘Hi Prince,’” Hoey wrote.
“His Royal Highness was not amused and his Private Secretary was instructed to inform future hosts that if fellow guests could not manage his full title, he would prefer a plain ‘Charles.’ Anything but ‘Hi Prince.’”
According to the royal website: “There are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting The Queen or a member of the Royal Family, but many people wish to observe the traditional forms.”
It adds: “For men this is a neck bow (from the head only) whilst women do a small curtsy. Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way.
“On presentation to The Queen, the correct formal address is ‘Your Majesty’ and subsequently ‘Ma’am,’ pronounced with a short ‘a,’ as in ‘jam’.
“For male members of the Royal Family, the same rules apply, with the title used in the first instance being ‘Your Royal Highness’ and subsequently ‘Sir’.
“For other female members of the Royal Family, the first address is conventionally ‘Your Royal Highness’ and subsequently ‘Ma’am.’”
Recent revelations about Prince Charles have suggested he is also rather particular when it comes to what he takes when travelling overseas.
Carolyn Robb, the youngest and first female chef who served Prince Charles and Princess Diana, worked in the royal household for 11 years between 1989 and 2000 and explained to MailOnline that Prince Charles requested to have his homegrown food from the UK with him even when he was abroad.
“He liked to have his own food with him,” she explained, meaning “piles and piles of cool-boxes” were taken around the world.
While it seems to be a strange request, it was to avoid falling ill during a full itinerary. She explained. “He couldn’t risk going down with a bad stomach when he was so busy.”
Sometimes, however, Prince Charles is caught unawares on royal tours and he was once spotted getting intimate with a third woman.
The woman was a model and she was captured with Charles in 1979 when he was on a royal tour of Australia before he married Diana in 1981.
Named Jane Priest, the Australian beauty famously ran up to Charles while he was jogging on Cottesloe Beach in Perth.
Breaking with all royal rules, Jane gave Charles a kiss on the cheek and was seen with her arms around the Prince.
The Standoff at Sparrow Creek earned positive reviews out of Fantastic Fest, and now the first trailer is here. This shadowy thriller finds a group of militia members descending into paranoia after one of their members engages in a mass shooting at a funeral. But who did it? No one knows for sure, and the clock is ticking. Watch the tense Standoff at Sparrow Creek trailer below.
Well, this certainly looks nerve-wracking. There are shades of Reservoir Dogs here, but in a much more subdued slow-burn kind of way. Here’s the official synopsis:
After a mass shooting at a police funeral, reclusive ex-cop Gannon realizes that the killer belongs to the same militia he joined after quitting the force. Knowing the police will be closing in on them, Gannon quarantines his fellow militiamen in a remote lumber mill. There, he sets about a series of grueling interrogations, intent on ferreting out the killer and turning him over to the authorities to prevent further bloodshed.
Reviewing Sparrow Creek at Fantastic Fest, Matt Donato wrote: “As an isolated scenario of steamy pressure-cooker provocation, and not a moral compass, fist-clenched captivation this effortless is rare. It all goes along with the pit left in your stomach as our world’s bleakest tendencies are disgustingly exploited by a smoking gun.” Our own Jacob Hall, who also saw the film at Fantastic Fest, had high praise as well, calling The Standoff at Sparrow Creek “intense and clever,” and adding: “This is disconcerting, dizzying filmmaking that challenges even as it thrills…As a thriller, the film is the kind of edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting, stomach-churning experience you hope to find when you sit down to watch the latest “Reservoir Dogs in a _____.”
All of this sounds pretty damn great, and I’m immensely interested in laying eyes on this movie when it arrives in January. I particularly like the shadowy, almost impenetrable visuals on display here – characters lurking in darkness, cast in silhouette against minimal light sources. So many indie films shirk any sort of visual style for a bland point-and-shoot mentality. When an indie film goes the extra mile with how it presents itself, I tend to take notice.
Written and directed by Henry Dunham, and starring James Badge Dale, Brian Geraghty, Patrick Fischler, Chris Mulkey, Happy Anderson and Robert Aramayo, The Standoff at Sparrow Creek opens in theaters, on VOD and Digital HD January 18, 2019.

Flights in first class are assumed to be an elegant affair with passengers behaving well. However, an alarming viral video has proven that some people behave no better in the superior class. The shocking clip shows a passenger doing something that is often frowned upon. They were filmed stretching their feet up onto the seat in front so they’re just behind a fellow flier’s head.
To make matters worse, the feet are completely naked – although they do at least seem clean.
What’s more, the passenger in front – and the person filming the outrageous etiquette – is none other than three-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White.
The American professional snowboarder and skateboarder can be seen shaking his head in disgust at the other person’s behaviour.
He captures his own disapproving face before raising the camera and filming the person’s feet behind him.
The disturbing video was uploaded to White’s Instagram account and shared by passengershaming.
Viewers have been horrified by the clip and have shared their reactions online.
“They have zero excuse! They have so much room!” one Instagram user commented.
Another posted: “Oh my goodness! I just can’t believe people act in this way! Doesn’t anyone ever say anything to them?”
Others felt even more strongly: “I guess this means that these barefooted animals aren’t just in coach, they’ve migrated to first class also,” a third person wrote.
Other people suggested White should have responded by tickling the offending feet or slapping them down with shoes.
This is far from the first time that passengers have been shocked by someone else’s feet during a flight.
A disturbing viral video filmed a female flier carrying out a grim activity that should only ever be done in private.
Sitting in the window seat of the plane cabin, the woman was captured picking dead skin off the bottom of her feet and dropping the flakes on the floor.
At no point does she stop to consider when the repulsive activity might upset others around her.
The bits of skin she is shedding are being dropped on the floor with little care.
In fact, the woman is scrolling on her phone while she gives herself this gruesome pedicure.
