In an expletive-ridden Instagram rant, Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr., said that anyone who would vote to reelect Donald Trump US President in two years are “some stupid motherf***ers.”

WARNING: STRONG LANGUAGE

“When the sh*t get back on and y’all get y’all jobs back and it’s time to vote, don’t vote for that ni***. Please don’t. Look what he do. He just don’t give a f**k,” the rapper, an outspoken critic of Trump, said.

The rapper accused Trump of not caring for his base, the American working class, by bringing the government into shutdown, that has already become the third-longest on the record and is forcing thousands of government workers to survive without paychecks for a third week in a row.

“Y’all honest, blue-collar, hard-working people and suffering. So if he don’t care about y’all, he really don’t give a f**k about us. So f**k him too, and f**k everybody down with Donald Trump. I said it,” the rapper said, before wrapping up his tirade with another F-bomb.

The comments’ section under the post immediately became an arena of fierce debate. While most commentators appeared to share the rapper’s viewpoint, some pointed out that he was nowhere to be seen when the shutdown happened under former President Barack Obama. Others cited achievements by the Trump administrations in his defense, while blaming Democrats for the shutdown.

“The government was shut down for 16 days in 2013 don’t be talking s*** until 16 days ended. I’m not a Democrat or Republican I just hate people who don’t know facts,” @daveruns4pizza wrote.

“Snoop, much love, always, but black unemployment is at an all time low. C’mon my n**ga,” another said.

“Ok, snoop you’re my favorite celebrity influence besides Brian Shaw (4 time WSM) but goddammit don’t insult the president for doing things he’s not doing,” another commentator wrote.

The talks between Trump and the Democratic leadership in the House and the Senate have stalled, with more than 800,000 workers, either furloughed or working without pay, continued to be affected by the shutdown across nine departments.

A round of talks led by Vice President Mike Pence has so far resulted in no breakthrough, with Trump saying on Sunday that “the shutdown could end tomorrow or go on a long time.” Trump, who said that he proposes a “steel barrier” rather than “a concrete wall,” said that he hopes for “some very serious talks” in the first half of the coming week.

Saturday’s Instagram tirade is far from Snoop Dogg’s first foray into politics. In November last year, the rapper, who is a well-known advocate for marijuana legalization, smoked a joint in front of the White House, documenting the whole stunt and uploading it on Instagram. In the video, Snoop is sitting on a bench, greeting fans and cursing Trump using fairly the same expletives.

A Trump clown has also starred in the rapper’s ‘Lavender’ music video, where he points a toy gun at him. The 2017 clip did not escape the US President’s attention, who called Snoop’s career “failing”.

The 47-year-old frequently spars with his fellow rapper and Trump supporter Kanye West. In October, he bad-mouthed Kanye, referring to him as “Uncle Tom. Ass n**ga.”

Standing against Soros: Facebook board defends COO Sandberg’s decision to snoop on billionaire https://briefnews.eu/standing-against-soros-facebook-board-defends-coo-sandbergs-decision-to-snoop-on-billionaire/ https://briefnews.eu/standing-against-soros-facebook-board-defends-coo-sandbergs-decision-to-snoop-on-billionaire/#respond Thu, 06 Dec 2018 15:02:37 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/standing-against-soros-facebook-board-defends-coo-sandbergs-decision-to-snoop-on-billionaire/

Facebook’s board of directors has defended COO Sheryl Sandberg’s decision to conduct opposition research into liberal billionaire George Soros. Facebook was under intense scrutiny for running a PR campaign against the magnate.

Sandberg admitted last week that she ordered staff to conduct research into Soros and his trading of Facebook stock, after he called the social media giant a “menace” to society during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January.

In a letter to Patrick Gaspard, president of Soros’ Open Society Foundations NGO, Facebook’s board defended Sandberg’s decision.

“To be clear, Ms. Sandberg’s question was entirely appropriate given her role as COO. When a well-known and outspoken investor attacks your company publicly, it is fair and appropriate to do this level of diligence,” read the letter, send on Wednesday.

Facebook’s Sandberg admits to snooping on Soros

This smear campaign involved Definers publishing anti-Soros content on NTKNetwork, a site owned by the company and described by one ex-employee as “our own in-house fake news shop.” Sandberg told NBC News that Facebook “absolutely did not pay anyone to create fake news,” and CEO Mark Zuckerberg denied any knowledge of his company’s work with Definers.

Eventually, outgoing Head of Communications, Elliot Schrage, took the fall for hiring the company, and while Sandberg admitted to conducting opposition research on Soros, she denied she had worked with Definers to investigate Soros’ link with anti-Facebook activists.

Facebook’s board stuck to that story on Wednesday, claiming in the letter that Sandberg knew nothing about Definers’ work with Facebook.

Since the New York Times’ report was published, Gaspard has called for independent, Congressional oversight of Facebook. He reiterated that call on Tuesday, stressing that “Facebook has a megaphone greater than that of sovereign states…there is too much at stake for you to continue to fail to lead.”

“These latest revelations add momentum tocalls for congressional review of monopolistic behavior,” he added.

Martha Stewart will never stop reinventing herself — here’s how she went from a stockbroker to hosting a cooking show with Snoop Dogg https://briefnews.eu/martha-stewart-will-never-stop-reinventing-herself-heres-how-she-went-from-a-stockbroker-to-hosting-a-cooking-show-with-snoop-dogg/ https://briefnews.eu/martha-stewart-will-never-stop-reinventing-herself-heres-how-she-went-from-a-stockbroker-to-hosting-a-cooking-show-with-snoop-dogg/#respond Tue, 09 Jan 2018 16:10:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/martha-stewart-will-never-stop-reinventing-herself-heres-how-she-went-from-a-stockbroker-to-hosting-a-cooking-show-with-snoop-dogg/ BI Graphics_Stay Hungry_800x100_POST (1)Business Insider

  • Martha Stewart has had a fascinating career path from model, to stockbroker, to cookbook author, to cooking show cohost with the rapper Snoop Dogg.
  • More than once, it has seemed like Stewart had finally failed — but she always comes back.
  • “I’m not Lenin or Stalin; I don’t have a master plan,” Stewart said in 1989. “There are just so many things can come along and interrupt it.”

Martha Stewart has lived the lives and careers of at least a dozen people in the last 76 years.

From model, to stockbroker, to cookbook author, to cooking show cohost with the rapper Snoop Dogg, Stewart has done it all.

There were times when it seemed that Stewart had reached the end of her career. In 2004, Stewart was found guilty on charges related to insider trading, and she spent five months in jail.

But since the scandal, Stewart has only come back stronger. Today, she has a show on VH1 with the rapper Snoop Dogg, called “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.” She has authored 87 books. Stewart’s reach extends to everything from her own meal-kit brand to a craft line at Michaels.

Stewart’s success took time

Stewart was born in 1941 as Martha Kostyra. She was raised in Nutley, New Jersey.

By the time Stewart was in high school, she had started her modeling career, which continued into her time at Barnard College. Living in New York City, the $ 50 an hour she could make modeling helped provide her with some spending money.

She married Andrew Stewart, a Yale Law School student, before graduating from Barnard with a degree in art and architectural history. Her first career was as a stockbroker at a boutique firm, but her passions lay elsewhere.

After moving with her husband to Westport, Connecticut, Stewart threw herself into renovating a farmhouse built in 1805 on Turkey Hill Road — a house that would become an iconic part of her lifestyle brand.

She started a catering company, which cooked gourmet meals for as many as 1,500 people at a time and exploded into a $ 1 million business.

The catering business also led to the book that launched her career.

Publishing executive Alan Mirken saw Stewart’s potential when she was catering a book-launch party, and he encouraged her to write a cookbook herself. The result was her first book, published in 1982 and titled “Entertaining.”

Becoming a “one-woman, multimillion-dollar industry”

“Entertaining” was a hit and sold 625,000 copies, according to Entrepreneur magazine.

Stewart quickly followed it up with more books, including “Martha Stewart’s Quick Cook Menus,” “The Wedding Planner,” and “Martha Stewart’s Christmas.” She became a regular guest on TV programs like “The Oprah Winfrey Show” while growing into a role as the go-to home-cooking guru for millions of Americans. By the late 1980s, people would spend $ 900 to fly to Connecticut for a three-day “entertaining seminar” at Turkey Hill.

“Today, the 48-year-old former model and Wall Street stockbroker is a one-woman, multimillion-dollar industry whose name has become synonymous with gracious living,” The Sun-Sentinel reported in 1989.

Stewart launched a magazine, Martha Stewart Living, in 1991. In 1997, she took over ownership of the magazine from Time Inc. by founding Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, which also included her books and TV show. Stewart was chairman, president, and CEO of the company.

The success required hard work — and some sacrifices. Mirken told The Sun-Sentinel that Stewart worked “28 hours a day and [made] commitments for 56.”

This intense work ethic seems to have contributed to Stewart’s divorce in 1990.

“I had to sacrifice a marriage because of the lure of the great job, the fabulous workplace,” Stewart told CNN recently. “But, I don’t regret it at all, because what I’ve done is something bigger and better than just one marriage.

Stewart’s downfall

martha stewartJemal Countess/Getty Images

In 2002, Stewart was hit hard by scandal when news broke that the US Securities and Exchange Commission was investigating her for insider trading. Suddenly, Stewart could no longer focus on her salads, but instead was swamped with negative press and forced to step down as Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia’s CEO.

In 2003, the SEC charged Stewart for insider trading, saying she sold stock in a biopharmaceutical company in late 2001 after receiving an unlawful tip from her former stockbroker. In March 2004, she was found guilty on all counts, including on charges of obstruction of justice, conspiracy, and making false statements.

“When judge said count 1, you could hear this gasp,” NBC News correspondent Ann Thompson reported at the time. “No one could believe it, no matter how you thought the trial was going, that this would be happening to this woman who is one of the biggest celebrities in this country of making false statements.”

Stewart served five months in West Virginia’s Alderson Federal Prison Camp. Stewart says that the prison stint cost her company an estimated $ 1 billion.

The comeback

After finishing her prison term, Stewart refused to keep a low profile. She was soon back on the air with “The Martha Stewart Show” and signed deals with Home Depot, PetSmart, and Michaels.

Stewart’s comeback has had its failures along with its successes. In 2015, Sequential Brands Group announced it would acquire Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia in a deal valued at $ 353 million, after the company posted losses 11 out of the previous 12 years.

But, in the last few years, Stewart has reemerged as a beloved and still shockingly relevant personality.

She was a surprise hit at the 2015 Comedy Central roast of Justin Bieber. In 2016, she launched a meal-kit line called “Martha & Marley Spoon.” She hosts a cooking show on VH1 with the rapper Snoop Dogg. And, her Twitter account is one of the best online.

In many ways, it makes sense. Stewart is constantly evolving — and she’s determined to come out on top.

“I’m not Lenin or Stalin; I don’t have a master plan,” Stewart told The Sun-Sentinel back in 1989. “There are just so many things can come along and interrupt it.”

A New York state judge has concluded that a powerful police surveillance tool known as a cell-site simulator, a device that spoofs legitimate mobile phone towers, is a “search” and therefore requires a warrant under most circumstances.

As a New York State Supreme Court judge in Brooklyn ruled earlier this month in an attempted murder case, New York Police Department officers should have sought a standard probable cause-driven warrant before using the invasive device.

The Empire State court joins others nationwide to reach this same conclusion. In September, the  District of Columbia Court of Appeals also found that stingrays normally require a warrant, as did a federal judge in Oakland, California back in August.

Ambient light sensors can be used to snoop on us while we’re web browsing https://briefnews.eu/ambient-light-sensors-can-be-used-to-snoop-on-us-while-were-web-browsing/ https://briefnews.eu/ambient-light-sensors-can-be-used-to-snoop-on-us-while-were-web-browsing/#respond Sat, 22 Apr 2017 09:20:50 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ambient-light-sensors-can-be-used-to-snoop-on-us-while-were-web-browsing/ There are more ways to access your data than by exploiting the various software vulnerabilities and hardware bugs that we seem to hear about on a daily basis. Our gadgets actually have all kinds of weaknesses that could allow nefarious parties to steal our information, and some of them are things we’d probably never consider.

One of those weaknesses stems from the fact that our PCs, tablets, and smartphones are stocked with sensors that extract information from our environments and use that data to make our devices more useful. Some researchers have found a way to use the innocuous-seeming ambient light sensor to grab potentially sensitive browser data and pass it along.

The ambient light sensor is used for a couple of purposes. It detects background light levels and adjusts screen brightness, and it works as a proximity sensor to determine when to shut off a smartphone’s screen during a call. As the researchers point out, the ambient light sensor is quite precise, and can measure light intensity from completely dark to incredibly bright.

The specific hack that the researchers developed uses the ambient light sensor to pick up color and lighting information from the screen by tapping into the data the sensor passes to the system. Because the sensor’s data is affected by what’s being displayed on the screen, it can be used in a variety of ways to pick up browser information that affects the light that the screen is giving off.

One simple example is the colors of visited links, which are normally obfuscated by the browser to avoid just this kind of snooping. Essentially, the light sensor readings can be used to distinguish between visited and unvisited links and thus inform an attacker as to which links the user had previously visited.

Another example involves using the ambient light sensor data to grab QR codes. That data can be used for such things as hijacking a user’s account when a QR code is used to provide emergency access to an account.

So far, the researchers have managed to create attacks that work in Firefox and Chrome on Android devices and on PCs with ambient light sensors. Certain problems exists, such as changing lighting conditions in real-world situations, and also screen brightness variations. Nevertheless, the attack presents yet another reason to wonder who might be stealing our information in ways that we’d never imagine — or prepare against.

House of Cards: What is Pollyhop and could Frank Underwood really use the NSA to snoop? https://briefnews.eu/house-of-cards-what-is-pollyhop-and-could-frank-underwood-really-use-the-nsa-to-snoop/ https://briefnews.eu/house-of-cards-what-is-pollyhop-and-could-frank-underwood-really-use-the-nsa-to-snoop/#respond Thu, 23 Feb 2017 16:19:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/house-of-cards-what-is-pollyhop-and-could-frank-underwood-really-use-the-nsa-to-snoop/

Season four of the drama saw Frank Underwood pitted against Republican presidential nominee Will Conway.

Like Underwood, Conway is a calculated schemer, who has used his military history, adorable family and boyish good looks to charm his way to the top.

During the two mens’ first meeting, we learn that Conway has links to a fictional search engine named Pollyhop and access to all of its user data.

The search history and other information harnessed by Pollyhop allows Conway to target his campaign to individuals based on their likes and dislikes.

This effectively allows him to present himself to each voter as their ideal candidate.

While this might sound farfetched, in real life politicians can use data to target voters.

In 2015, it was reported that Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz’s campaign was using psychological data harvested from Facebook.

A UK-based company called Cambridge Analytica analysed users’ likes to match individuals’ traits with existing voter data.

For example, it could work out whether a person owned a gun or not. None of this is illegal.

A spokesman for the company told The Tab: “Pollyhop comes down to digital voter targeting, which we do a lot of for political campaigns.

“The short explanation is that data analytics can help candidates determine who their persuadable audience is and then use digital targeting tools to ensure that those susceptible voters see things on their computer, mobile or tablet screens that compel them to vote for that candidate.”

After Cruz was defeated in the Republican primaries, the firm began working with Donald Trump.

Frank Luntz, a respected Republican pollster, has said: “There are no longer any experts except Cambridge Analytica. They were Trump’s digital team who figured out how to win.”

In retaliation to Conway’s scheme, Frank begins snooping on US voters, under the guise of protecting national security.

He is given a classified warrant from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court which authorises the NSA to listen in to phone calls and mine internet data.

While this is technically possible in real-life, it would be highly illegal.

Privacy specialist Julian Sanchez has said that “it’s not inconceivable” that an NSA director would let the president launch a bogus spy programme.

But NSA spokesperson Vanee Vines told Vocativ: “Data on U.S. voters for an election? Absolutely illegal and unbelievable.”
