Adidas is dropping its all new Ultraboost 19 running shoes later this week, but you won’t have to wait in line to get a look at them. The company is partnering with Snapchat to offer an augmented reality-powered preview. Sneakerheads will be able to use the Snapchat lens to see exactly how the shoes will look laced up on their feet before they are officially available on December 15th.

According to Adidas, the AR preview will be the first time Snapchat has partnered with a sneaker brand to let users try on a product through a lens. To see how your feet look clad in the kicks, fire up Snapchat and browse the lenses until you see the Adidas logo. You’ll get to watch a brief unboxing before being presented with the option to learn more about the shoes or try them on. Adidas will all be sharing the Snap lens with shoppers today via AirDrop in select locations in New York, Los Angeles and Houston.

Adidas is just the latest shoe company to embrace AR for a new releases. Nike tapped the technology to build hype for the release of the Air Jordan 11 Concord. Adidas has used AR previously to sell limited-edition versions of its sneakers.

Snapchat is introducing new Friendship Profiles that will celebrate your relationships with your closest friends. The feature will dig up some of the highlights of the conversations shared between you and your friends. Snap Inc. is also introducing new Bitmoji-centric features, including Bitmoji Stories and custom Bitmoji merchandise that will be sold through Snapchat.

Friendship Profiles will surface some of the stuff you and your friends have saved over the course of your time using Snapchat together. Chat messages, photos, videos and other content — basically anything that you and your friends have saved in your conversations will be surfaced to remind you of those shared moments. The memories will be showcased privately and can be accessed by tapping on your friends’ Bitmoji. Friendship Profiles will start rolling out today. Snapchat says they will be available to users globally in the coming weeks.

In addition to the Friendship Profiles, Snapchat is also rolling out some new Bitmoji content. First is Bitmoji Stories, which are comic book-style tales that will star your Bitmoji and feature appearances from your friends. The stories will start to appear in the Discover feed on November 14th, with new content cropping up over the next several weeks. They will be available only to English speakers for the time being.

If that’s not enough Bitmoji for you, Snapchat is also launching Bitmoji Merch. You’ll be able to plaster the cartoon versions of you and your friends on all kinds of gear including t-shirts, mugs, shower curtains and phone cases. The Bitmoji merch will be available starting November 15th. You can access it by visiting the Settings menu in Snapchat, then selecting the Snap Store. The feature will only be available for iOS users in the United States to start.

Snpachat has been putting a considerable amount of effort into beefing up its offerings to keep people on the app engaged. Earlier this year, it dragged Bitmoji outside of the Snapchat ecosystem so users could share stickers with their friends across iOS apps using the Bitmoji Keyboard. It’s also beefed up customization options for the cartoon characters and opened up its platform to third-party developers to create new ways to interact through Snapchat.

Snap and DC Comics have launched a DC Super Heroes Challenge that asks you to create a DC-themed Lens championing Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman for the chance to win an expenses-paid trip to San Diego Comic-Con in July. You don’t have to start completely from scratch, thankfully, as there’s a load of DC assets to bring into Lens Studio.

The Challenge is open to Americans, and you have until the night of July 8th to submit your AR masterwork.

This is Snap’s first Lens Studio Challenge involving a big-name brand, and it hints at how the company might spur you to create Lenses in the future — if your artistic muse isn’t enough to make it happen, a tangible reward might. No, Snapchat isn’t about claim a decisive victory over Facebook in the AR space as a result of this contest. However, it might give you a reason to keep returning to Snapchat (whether or not you’re a creator) when you’d otherwise drift away.

easyJet have fired the captain who was caught playing on social media tool Snapchat while flying last month.

The Sun reported last month that captain, Michel Castellucci and his co-pilot were caught on their phones playing with the app while flying a plane full of passengers at 30,000 ft in the air.

The image they took was posted on Mr Castellucci’s social media account, titled “Dancing first officer in cruise doing paperwork”, although he has since deleted his social media accounts.

The images captured neither pilot looking at the controls or out ahead through the plane window.

According to The Sun, the airline’s chief executive Johan Lundgren said: “We have clear policies on how we use social media and that is not part of that policy. It was very disappointing.”

He went on to add: “It shouldn’t have happened.”

After the leaked images, both pilots were suspended while the incident was investigated.

However, it has since been announced that Mr Castellucci has been asked to leave.

His co-pilot has also resigned over the released images.

The images attracted thousands of responses from angry passengers.

One outraged response read: “It’s dangerous, unprofessional, and sends out the wrong image.”

While another said “too much fun in the cockpit,” according to The Sun.

Johan Lundgren, easyJet’s chief executive, told the Press Association: “This is causing unnecessary difficulties.”

At the time of the incident, an easyJet spokesperson said: “At no point was the safety of the passengers compromised.”

Although they later admitted that the airline had fallen short of the “high standards” easyJet offers.

Although it is not publicised how often pilots are fired, flight secrets previously revealed that there are a number of things that can cause the dismissal of the cabin crew.

A flight attendant for over 15 years, Heather Poole, told mental floss that flight attendants are placed on a strict six month probation.

Heather revealed: “I know one new hire who lost her job for wearing her uniform sweater tied around her waist.”

However, one rule, in particular, should never be broken.

Heather explained: “The most surprising violation is flying while ill: If we call in sick, we aren’t allowed to fly, even as a passenger on another airline.” She went on to add: “It’s grounds for immediate dismissal.”

According to TechCrunch, Snapchat users have now started to see these changes.

The photo-based social network is now displaying Stories in reverse chronological order for some users, replacing the controversial redesign’s algorithmically sorted feed.

Showing the most recently shared Stories first in the feed makes them predictable and coherent to browse, since it allows users to check-in and see what it happening with their friends right now.

However, this type of reverse chronological order favours those who post frequently to the social network, burying other users at the bottom of the feed.

Snapchat’s move to algorithmic ranking in its big redesign earlier this year was in part designed to ensure users never missed Stories from those they interacted with on Snapchat the most – even if they posted far less frequently.

Facebook’s News Feed used a very similar algorithmic ranking method for a long time, and Instagram employed a similar technique when it moved away from a chronological feed two years ago.

Switching to algorithmic sorting helped Instagram and Twitter boost growth, likely why Snapchat made it part of the redesign.

However the move back to reverse chronological order should appease those who were against the changes introduced at the start of the year.

Snapchat has over 10 million daily users in the UK.
