‘Cosmic Snake’ Offers High Scores For Talented Cave-In Artists https://briefnews.eu/cosmic-snake-offers-high-scores-for-talented-cave-in-artists/ https://briefnews.eu/cosmic-snake-offers-high-scores-for-talented-cave-in-artists/#respond Thu, 07 Jun 2018 15:52:05 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/cosmic-snake-offers-high-scores-for-talented-cave-in-artists/ cos1.jpg

Cosmic Snake doesn’t have much to do with the classic game save for giving you a snake to control, although this one is more interested in digging holes and dropping ceilings on things than eating small bits and getting bigger.

In Cosmic Snake, you want to dig holes in all of that heavy, heavy dirt hanging over the heads of the creatures down below. Once you’ve dug enough to chop out a section of ceiling, it will come tumbling down, taking out as many creatures as the player can manage to catch in one go. The more the player gets, the better their score.

Folks, naturally, aren’t keen on being crushed, so they tend to move around. They’ll do this at varying speeds that can be chosen based on the player’s needs, from high-speed struggles to catch anyone to a pace that moves in turns, offering plenty of time to consider your next move. Either way, Cosmic Snake offers an ever-moving puzzle where the most talented hole-digger can rack up those high scores.

Cosmic Snake is available for $ 9.99 on Steam. For more information on the game and developer Mindware Co Ltd, you can follow them on IndieDB.

Shelby unveils 1967 GT500 Super Snake continuation — and a new roadster https://briefnews.eu/shelby-unveils-1967-gt500-super-snake-continuation-and-a-new-roadster/ https://briefnews.eu/shelby-unveils-1967-gt500-super-snake-continuation-and-a-new-roadster/#respond Thu, 17 May 2018 22:16:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/shelby-unveils-1967-gt500-super-snake-continuation-and-a-new-roadster/
Shelby American is reviving the legendary 1967 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake, planning an exclusive run of just 10 examples of the fastback and culminating what it calls the “unfinished business” of the muscle car’s parents, Carroll Shelby and Don McCain. Shelby also unveiled a new ultra-lightweight Series 2 roadster supercar at an event at its Southern California headquarters that boasts eye-popping output of more than 800 horsepower.

But let’s focus first on the Super Snake and its backstory.

The Super Snake and its big-block 427 cubic-inch V8 borrowed from the Ford GT40 Mk II race car originated in 1967 as an engineering study for high-speed tire testing by Goodyear. The modified engine raised output to 520 horsepower, and Shelby added heavy-duty front disc brakes, a Detroit Locker rear end, rear traction bars, Goodyear Thunderbolt tires and a redesigned grille for improved air cooling.

McCain, a former Shelby American employee, reportedly wanted to do a 50-car run of the muscle car, but the idea was ultimately scrapped as being too expensive. In more recent years, McCain worked with the Shelby engine division and pushed again to rebirth the Super Snake, signing 10 dash plates for the cars along with Carroll Shelby. McCain passed away a few years ago.

Shelby helmed the Super Snake at Goodyear’s test track in San Angelo, Texas, and pushed the car to 170 miles per hour. It later set a new top speed world record for its class.

But until now, a second example was never built, and the lone Super Snake prototype changed hands several times, selling at auction most recently in 2013 in Indianapolis for $ 1.3 million.

The new continuation versions will be built from original donor ’67 Mustangs with factory VINs and original titles and a Shelby serial number for the official Shelby registry. The cars will be stripped to bare metal before undergoing transformation. Customers can also opt for an original donor Shelby GT500 for the Super Snake transformation.

True to the original, Shelby will fit it with a race-inspired big-block 427 cubic-inch V8 from Carroll Shelby Engine Co., available in both aluminum and cast-iron blocks, only output shoots up to more than 550 horsepower. Power will be mated to a four-speed transmission, with disc brakes and the fastback’s original triple-stripe design. The muscle cars will be built to order and start at $ 249,995.

Series 2 roadster

Turning to the Series 2, Shelby dubs the convertible roadster a “clean sheet” car — all-Shelby and not based on an existing model or chassis — and successor to the 2,850-pound Series 1. It’s the result of an agreement between Shelby and Wingard Motorsports, which purchased the remaining Series 1 chassis and parts several years ago, to create a limited number of sports cars available in aluminum, carbon fiber or one of the first titanium car bodies.

“Working with Shelby, founder Bob Wingard revised the car to reduce weight by maximizing the integration of billeted aluminum and carbon fiber components,” Shelby American President Gary Patterson said in a release. “He further refined the suspension, braking and drivetrain to allow an increase of more than twice the horsepower of the original car. The Series 2 is now more than 12 percent lighter and will support over 800 horsepower.”

Yowza. The standard drivetrain is a five-speed ZF transaxle torque tube coupled to a multi-disc clutch system powered by either a Shelby 427 FE V8 or 427 Windsor motor, although other engines can be accommodated.

The car is built on the original aluminum honeycomb monocoque frames and uses an inboard cantilevered front and rear suspension design to minimize the sprung wheel weight, plus suspension fine-tuning courtesy of Penske Shocks. Braking comes from six-piston calipers on each corner and custom 19-inch monoblock performance wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tires. No cupholders, however.

Each commissioned Series 2 will be unique and one-of-one, with custom interiors, carbon fiber seats and aluminum bodies available in brushed, polished or painted finish with Shelby racing stripes. They’ll come with a one-year warranty for parts and labor and painted finishes. Just four will be available per year, though pricing wasn’t disclosed. If you order one, Shelby says it will offer a weekend training session at Spring Mountain Raceway near Las Vegas to bring you up to speed.

The US Marine Corps sent a massive amount of Marines to Thailand for the annual Cobra Gold military drill, an exercise that has been held in Thailand almost every year since 1982.

The exercise was originally intended to strengthen relations between the US and its oldest ally in South East Asia, but has since turned into a drill for multiple nations in the region. This year, 11,075 personnel from 29 countries will participate.

The US nearly doubled its own contribution to the exercise this year, with 6,800 personnel participating. The increase is likely due to the threat of a more powerful China.

“This exercise is the largest multilateral exercise in the Indo-Pacific region. It speaks to the commitment of the US in the region,” Steve Castonguay, a spokesman for the US Embassy in Bangkok, said.

Take a look at the awesome photos from the exercise here:

They were also included in the drills this year. As amphibious assault vehicles approach beaches, they fire smoke screens to make it more difficult to target them.

US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis visited Indonesia on Tuesday to repair ties with the country’s special forces, which committed gross human-rights violations under former Indonesian President Muhammad Suharto.

Mattis was expecting to watch the Indonesian special forces, known as Kopassus, perform a hostage rescue drill — but instead saw them walk on fire, drink snake blood, roll in glass, and more.

Mattis seemed to enjoy the demonstration.

“The snakes! Did you see them tire them out and then grab them? The way they were whipping them around – a snake gets tired very quickly,” Mattis later told reporters, according to Reuters.

Here’s what the Indonesian special forces do:

Hiss off! Venomous snake takes refuge in Australian man’s engine bay https://briefnews.eu/hiss-off-venomous-snake-takes-refuge-in-australian-mans-engine-bay/ https://briefnews.eu/hiss-off-venomous-snake-takes-refuge-in-australian-mans-engine-bay/#respond Wed, 03 Jan 2018 20:36:26 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/hiss-off-venomous-snake-takes-refuge-in-australian-mans-engine-bay/

A man who went out for a walk in suburban Sydney got quite a surprise when he returned to his red Mazda. Left on his windshield was a hand-written note warning him that a venomous red-bellied black snake had taken up residence in his car.

“Hi,” the note read, “this afternoon a red Belly slithered up into your front left tyre. Please be careful.”

The snake is a native of wet areas of eastern Australia that can grow up to 2.5 meters (about 8 feet), making it one of Australia’s largest venomous snakes. They’re considered dangerous, but shy, unlikely to bite unless severely agitated.

When Michael Garbutt popped the hood, he found the snake coiled up inside in the corner.

“To say I was shocked is an understatement,” he told The Sydney Morning Herald. “On reflection I don’t think I would have put my hand out to pop the bonnet if I had known it was there.”

So he took to Google to look for a local snake wrangler and found Andrew Melrose, of Shire Snake Catchers. By the time he arrived, the snake had moved down into the engine. Then it moved behind the wheel guard, and then under the engine to the front bumper, then back to the right front wheel. Melrose said he coaxed it out by gently touching its body.

“I’ve done it my whole life,” he said. “It looks simple but if you haven’t done it before you can get killed real quick.”

In the end, Melrose ended up grabbing the snake from the ground outside of the car and dropping it in a bag. The whole de-snaking process took about an hour.

Melrose said the snake is common on the swampy peninsula area where it was found, since it finds plenty of frogs, eels and other creatures to eat. He says it’s common to find them in cars.

“If they get startled they look for the first place that is safe,” he said. “The place I found it was very bare. There was no place for the snake to escape. People would have startled it and the only place for it to hide was the car. The driver could have driven off unaware and parked and the snake would have left the car when it felt safe.”

So let this be a lesson for you, Autoblog readers: familiarize yourself with your local venomous snakes. And keep the number of your local snake wrangler handy at all times. Or just don’t move to Australia.

I'm A Celebrity 2017: DEADLY snake removed from camp 'They walk there everyday' https://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-deadly-snake-removed-from-camp-they-walk-there-everyday/ https://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-deadly-snake-removed-from-camp-they-walk-there-everyday/#respond Thu, 23 Nov 2017 19:32:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-deadly-snake-removed-from-camp-they-walk-there-everyday/

Medic Bob revealed that he had removed the venomous snake last week from where Ant and Dec regularly present the show from.

On the ITV2 spin-off show, I’m a Celebrity… Extra Camp, Bob confessed to leading a team into the jungle to help him keep the dangerous creature from the campers.

Speaking to presenter Scarlett Moffatt, he said: “We keep it quiet from the celebrities in camp but last week I removed a venomous brown tree snake actually climbing along the drawbridge where Ant and Dec walk every day.”

After the revelation, presenter Joe Swash made an off-camera joke abut “knowing about small-eyed snakes”, to which Bob seized the opportunity to poke fun at him.

The bearded medic quipped: “Joe knows all about small-eyed snakes!”

According to The Sun, ITV bosses sent a team to take away a venomous Australian funnel web spider from where the celebrities sleep last week.

This came after campmates were urged to be cautious of ticks that could leave them paralysed.

I’m A Celebrity is notorious for having creepy crawllies running around, but they’re normally served on a plate.

In the first eating Bushtucker Trial both Rebekah Vardy and Georgia Toffolo came face-to-face with these critters.

In fact, the pair were forced to eat five dead crickets, five cockroaches, 20 mealworms, one hawkmoth and one huntsman spider in the First Dates-style challenge.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues on ITV1 at 9pm.

I'm A Celebrity 2017: Amir Khan caught out over snake fear as fans dig out this photo https://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-amir-khan-caught-out-over-snake-fear-as-fans-dig-out-this-photo/ https://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-amir-khan-caught-out-over-snake-fear-as-fans-dig-out-this-photo/#respond Mon, 20 Nov 2017 23:54:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/im-a-celebrity-2017-amir-khan-caught-out-over-snake-fear-as-fans-dig-out-this-photo/

When champion boxer Amir, 30, was forced to take part in the first Bushtucker trial of 2017 alongside Georgia “Toff” Toffolo, he ended up face to face with a jungle python.

Terrified of the creature, the sportsman cried that he wanted to be removed from the trial, telling ITV presenters Ant and Dec that it was no laughing matter.

While Toff was deeply upset with her task-partner after managing to keep her cool, one viewer discovered a throwback photo of the boxer posing next to a female snake charmer in a night club.

Appearing cool and collected, Amir pursed his lips not far from the yellow python’s head, sending viewers into a meltdown on Twitter.

“Amir Khan has been caught lying again for 3242627 time this year #ImACeleb,” one unforgiving person wrote.

Another viewer said: “For someone thats ‘terrfied’ of snakes, but can stand so close to 1 for a picture is pretty impressive isn’t it… #amirkhan #ImACeleb,” followed by: “The only snake in this jungle is Amir Khan for saying that he’s scared of them when he clearly isn’t. #ImACeleb.”

Viewers continue to joke about the situation, as one commented: “It’s a shame Amir Khan pulled that little tiddler snake out of the hole. He’d have coped much better with this big b**tard #ImACeleb #AmirKhan #Imacelebrity.”

The jungle contestant had initially complained to the show’s presenters about his ordeal, but they were simply confused at his apparent cluelessness on the long-running series’ format.

“I can’t believe you made me do this, I said before the show I’m terrified of snakes,” Amir snapped.

Snickering, Dec explained that that was why the creatures were put there, before adding: “You really haven’t seen the show, have you?”
