So even though I remain pretty steadfast in my worry that Rome and Regina’s adoption is going to fall through in spectacularly painful fashion… who’s up for a baby shower?!

This week’s A Million Little Things celebrates Baby Howard-to-Be, ramps up to Eddie and Katherine’s vow-renewal ceremony and forwards Gary’s nascent relationship with Darcy (much to Maggie’s brokenhearted chagrin). Read on for the highlights of “Mothers and Daughters.”

DELILAH’S NEW ‘TRAINER’ | Delilah and Miles go for a hike and get coffee; they’re very flirty, and it’s clear they’re still very much into each other. But when one of D’s mom-acquaintances says hello at the cafe, Delilah panics. Miles rolls with it and introduces himself as her personal trainer; afterwards, he completely understands why she choked.

Much later, though, Maggie and Delilah are discussing Miles when Regina’s mom butts in and demands details about the widow’s “hot new guy.” Sophie overhears and stomps off, but her anger is short-lived: She understands when her mom says that she hadn’t mentioned Miles because getting back into dating is “weird and kind of scary. Then she asks Delilah to tell her about her new man.

SURPRISE GUEST | As someone who has sat through myriad baby showers and been the guest of honor at one of her own, I implore the women of the world: PLEASE do not play that disgusting diaper game at these events. It makes all of womankind look bad. (If you have no idea what I’m talking about, suffice to say the party pastime involves a variety of melted chocolate bars smeared into a series of Pampers, and it’s exactly as gross as you think it might be.)

Anyway, that game is underway at Regina’s baby shower when Eve shows up unexpectedly. Regina’s mom doesn’t understand how close the two women have gotten, but by the end of the hour, Eve has won over her child’s Grandma-to-Be. And for her gift, Eve gives Rome and Regina two things. First, she reassures a freaked-out Rome that his being her kid’s adoptive father provides her a great amount of comfort. Second, she hands the Howards an envelope containing the child’s gender: She doesn’t want to know, but she knows they do, so she got the info at her last ultrasound.

The couple wants to share the celebration with her, but she tearfully tells them that she’s got to break off any extra contact: She loves them, but being around them is too hard, she explains. “I can’t be in your lives anymore, not after the baby’s born,” she says, leaving them speechless.

a-million-little-things-recap-season-2-episode-18-mothers-and-daughtersWHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO ALEX? | On the night that Lindsay and Eddie’s friend Alex died, the three of them were drinking and doing cocaine with Alex’s sister, Colleen, by the lake. But Eddie and Alex stayed later than the others; Lindsay eventually found him, soaking wet and asleep, by the waterfront. She snuck him home in the middle of the night, fearing they’d get in trouble with their parents. The next morning, the cops fished Alex out of the lake.

“You think I had something to do with Alex’s death?” he asks Lindsay, incredulously. “I don’t know,” she replies. “But you were the last person to see her alive.” Touché.

So Eddie becomes obsessed with finding out the truth before he and Katherine renew their vows, which is happening in, like, a day or so. His call to Colleen gets rejected rather quickly — she has no interest in rehashing the incident — so he and Lindsay drive up to the cabin and (I kid you not) stare at the water for a while until Alex and Colleen’s elderly father comes out and yells at them to leave the family alone. (Side note: If Eddie really doesn’t want any secrets to come between him and Katherine, and if their relationship is going so well, why doesn’t he just… tell her what’s going on?)

‘I’D KINDA LIKE TO HOLD YOU’ | Katherine learns Darcy and Gary are dating. Then Darcy helps her out when the electricity at her office goes on the fritz. Katherine is gone for a while when Maggie swings by to drop off some paintings from the apartment she’s in the process of vacating; she and Darcy meet, but neither knows the other’s relationship to Gary.

Eventually, Gary comes to the office, as well, where he and Darcy flirt their buns off. But when they both accidentally get locked in the electrical closet, the banter dies: Darcy has a panic attack so bad that Gary breaks the glass in the door just to get them out. Later, she explains that it all stems from her time in the service, and she cries while recalling a similar incident triggered by fireworks at a parade she and her son, Liam, attended. “I don’t know what to say, but I know I’d kinda like to hold you,” Gary says. Grateful, she lets him.

a-million-little-things-recap-season-2-episode-18-mothers-and-daughtersLater, she walks him home, and that’s when Gary chooses to tell her that Maggie wasn’t just a friend, as he’d led her to believe earlier in the hour. “Maggie and I dated. Actually, we lived together,” he says. “If I’m being completely truthful, she kinda broke my heart. And I want to be honest with you, because I really like you. And earlier, byou were so honest with me.” Darcy looks at him with a small smile on her face. “I kinda wanna hold you right now,” she says. They hug, then walk to his place and decide that they’re going to stay in for the evening. Then they kiss in his doorway… which is precisely when Maggie, who’d had a change of heart while listening to Cat Stevens’ “Don’t Be Shy” in her empty apartment, pulls up in a taxi. “Actually,” she says to the driver, holding back tears, “can you take me back home?”

Lucky stargazers in Russia and North America have been treated to a spectacular cosmic display, courtesy of an age-old star constellation shaped like a space dragon.

The annual Draconids meteor shower occurs every year in October, providing astronomers and amateur stargazers with an opportunity to see fiery space rock shoot across Earth’s sky. The celestial light show is best viewed on a clear night from the northern hemisphere as the meteors appear to come from the Draco the Dragon constellation in the north.

READ MORE: Perseid meteor shower (VIDEOS)

Discovered by the ancient Roman astronomer Claudius Ptolemy, the intriguing star formation, which is home to more than 14 main stars, resembles a serpent or dragon parading across the sky. It’s from this constellation that the Draconids appear to come from, sometimes raining down in their many hundreds.

So far, enthusiasts from Russia, Canada and the US have posted their incredible snapshots on social media, revealing meteors surging sideways over places like Siberia, Texas and the Blue Ridge Mountains, Georgia.

With the Draconids expected to last until October 16, there is still time to sneak a peek of the celestial experience.

  • The undercover inmates learned about the complex social dynamics that take place in jail.
  • Unwritten rules dictated how new inmates eat, sleep, socialize, and solve disputes.

Life in jail is no cake walk — and it’s even harder when you don’t know the unwritten rules.

Several law-abiding citizens learned those rules the hard way when they went undercover as inmates for the A&E show “60 Days In.” Now in its fourth season, the show followed the undercover participants as they navigated jail life at Clark County Jail in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, for two months.

The participants were given false identities and booked under fake charges during their stints behind bars, and needed to maintain their cover stories to prevent other inmates from catching on.

As they quickly learned, jail life is governed by strict rules that dictate the way inmates eat, sleep, socialize, and solve disputes. Most people don’t know about these complex social dynamics until they experience them for themselves.

Read on to find out about the complicated dynamics that take place in jail.

On their first day, new inmates often find themselves getting grilled by veteran inmates about the nature of their crimes. Inmates are on high alert for inconsistencies in someone’s back story, which could suggest they are an undercover mole.

The undercover inmates quickly learned that there is a strict social hierarchy in jail that governs everything from where you sleep to whether you get to shower or not.

New inmates are constantly getting tested by those higher on the social ladder. In one early episode, an undercover inmate named Jeff got pressured into buying commissary items for a veteran inmate. Word quickly spread that Jeff could be taken advantage of.

Kiri: Viewers DISGUSTED by 'creepy' shower scene as murder suspect walks in on his mother https://briefnews.eu/kiri-viewers-disgusted-by-creepy-shower-scene-as-murder-suspect-walks-in-on-his-mother/ https://briefnews.eu/kiri-viewers-disgusted-by-creepy-shower-scene-as-murder-suspect-walks-in-on-his-mother/#respond Thu, 25 Jan 2018 01:37:17 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/kiri-viewers-disgusted-by-creepy-shower-scene-as-murder-suspect-walks-in-on-his-mother/

The latest episode of Channel 4’s gripping drama Kiri saw one of the show’s main characters, Simon Warner (played by Finn Bennett), walk in on his mother, Alice (Lia Williams), in the shower.

Viewers watched in horror as the schoolboy ripped the towel from his mother’s naked body after refusing to leave the bathroom.

Simon’s parents suspect he murdered his foster sister, Kiri, after he began acting strangely in recent episodes.

In the first show of the series, Kiri was murdered and her ex-con father, Nathaniel Akindele (Paapa Essiedu), was thought to be the prime suspect, however, it has since emerged that Simon lied about his whereabouts on the day she was killed.

On Wednesday night’s instalment, married Alice had taken a shower following a quick rendezvous with her secret lover when her son forced his way into the bathroom.

It was there that Simon described in detail a sexual encounter he had with a schoolmate while his mother, dressed only in a towel, pleaded with him to leave the room.

The teenager then snatched the towel from her body and stormed out of the bathroom, a scene which viewers at home branded “creepy” to watch.

One person wrote on Twitter: “Awkward sex scene. Awkward shower scene. This is getting a bit more sinister than expected #Kiri.

Another added: “#Kiri creepy son watching mum in the shower,” while a third posted: “The mother and son in Kiri are seriously sending me some STRANGE vibes.”

“What’s wrong with this boy? Staring at his mum in the shower and all! #Kiri,” questioned another.

“The lad is a psychopath,” commented a fifth user, while another penned: “Right this foster family are getting stranger by the minute wtf.”(sic)

Lia Williams, who plays Alice in the Channel 4 drama series, recently revealed that the bathroom scene was “very difficult” to film but that she trusted the team around her and was fascinated by her characters complex life.

She told Radio Times: “It was a very difficult scene to do but it’s so intelligently done and I trusted everyone around me so much. We had an incredibly brilliant and sensitive director [Euros Lyn] who we knew would do it tastefully.

“The most exciting thing about playing Alice is that she’s such a complicated woman. The slightly oedipal relationship with her son is Jack Thorne being really interesting and brave as a writer.”

Speaking about when she first read the script for the scene, she said: “I just thought it was a really great scene because it’s so alarming.

“It’s one of the things that made me want to do it. I didn’t shy away from it at all, quite the opposite.”

Kiri concludes on Channel 4 next Wednesday at 9pm.

This Week In Trailers: Flower, Kate Can’t Swim, Maybe Shower, Above & Beyond, The Relationtrip https://briefnews.eu/this-week-in-trailers-flower-kate-cant-swim-maybe-shower-above-beyond-the-relationtrip/ https://briefnews.eu/this-week-in-trailers-flower-kate-cant-swim-maybe-shower-above-beyond-the-relationtrip/#respond Sat, 13 Jan 2018 17:11:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/this-week-in-trailers-flower-kate-cant-swim-maybe-shower-above-beyond-the-relationtrip/ Green Band Trailer

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: What better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising?

This week we go after a possible chomo, throw a party about a pregnancy we’re not entirely sure we want, visualize our relationship anxiety, go from EDM to rock star, and connect with a girlfriend who may not like girls anymore.

Flower

Charming.

As much as a movie about trying to catch a child molester can be charming, the tonal opposite of Hard Candy, this trailer absolutely pulls it off. Behind the direction of Max Winkler this is my first real introduction to Zoey Deutch and she owns completely. Add to this that the movie is getting a writing assist from Matt Spicer, who co-wrote Ingrid Goes West, and you have this itty bitty film that looks and feels like something that could be just the kind of under-the-radar gem that could get attention for all the right reasons. And, big ups for Tim Heidecker for crushing that straight arrow parental role with nary a whiff of what we’ve come to love from the guy.

Above & Beyond

Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki.

Ever hear of any of them? Me neither.

I was so ready, so close, to pushing that NEXT button before I realized we’re here to talk about some DJs who were actually trained musicians and wanted to go on the road to show off a different side of their talents. Directors Paul Dugdale and Myles Desenberg follow these men of the night as they roam the planet during the day to show their amply sized audience just how much they could rock without the electronic element. I’m taken with this simply because it’s a story about some well-known people who genuinely threw caution to the wind to see how this other thing would go. It’s an interesting narrative and it looks like it could sustain my interest.

Kate Can’t Swim

Vulnerable.

I miss these kinds of movies. What I mean by this is that I miss these stories that feel tiny in scope and have a very compact time horizon in which the drama is set in motion and, eventually, will collapse in very short order once all the pieces are in place. Director Josh Helman has a firm grasp on keeping things tight and even though the narrative is all but broadcasted from beginning to finish (I think we can fill in the holes) there’s still some tenderness between our protagonists that, at the very least, seems to indicate a solid story that maybe, possibly, hopefully, won’t end exactly the way we think.

The Relationtrip

Squeegee my third eye, man.

Just trying to comprehend what on earth directors Renée Felice Smith and C.A. Gabriel have made is a pretty simple equation: Bring together two people who maybe possibly probably are in love with one another, add in some visual delights that bring to life the neuroses that can whip us into a mental frenzy, and then direct it all in a way that doesn’t feel jarring and is completely relatable. It works for me. From the moment it starts you aren’t quite sure how this is all going to work but it gets so gonzo by the end that there’s no way I’m not going to check this out. All in.

Maybe Shower

The second coming-of-age when you come of age.

I worked with enough young people in my years in the job market that there’s this thing that I see happen in the social media postings of those just-graduated workers who are now in their late 20s, early 30s. Some of them are now going through that second coming-of-age where they’ve found their partner for life and are going down that road of deciding whether or not to have kids and how they’re going to negotiate what that process will, or will not, look like once they decide what they’re going to do about reproducing. Director Lex Lybrand, who I am always happy to see fighting the good fight for independent filmmaking, has made something that captures that nexus point of people who have moved beyond adolescence, beyond early adulthood, and are now entering an uncertain future that can either prolong their independence or forever bind them to something new entirely. Solid.

Nota bene: If you have any suggestions of trailers to possibly be included in this column, even have a trailer of your own to pitch, please let me know by sending me a note at Christopher_Stipp@yahoo.com or look me up via Twitter at @Stipp

The Made in Chelsea star swapped her camp clothes for a sexy khaki and black bikini to wash off the mud and dirt from another day living in the jungle.

Letting her hair down, the 22-year-old appeared to be getting used to life in the Australian wilderness as she relished underneath the waterfall.

The blonde beauty’s bikini top showed off her perky bust and teased at her cleavage thanks to the plunging neckline.

Toff was sent packing to Snake Rock in last night’s episode along with Vanessa White, Rebekah Vardy, Jamie Lomas and newcomer Kezia Dugdale.

But the divide certainly won’t hinder her chances of winning the ITV Show as she is currently favourite to be crowned Queen of the Jungle.

And Toff may have someone back in the UK to share her joy with as it was reported she is in a relationship with Kate Middleton’s younger brother, James.

A source told The Sun Toff plans to go public with her romance with the 30-year-old after her stint Down Under.
