“Billy Bailey is odds-on to lift the Glitterball Trophy later this month in what would prove to be a popular result,” Coral spokesperson John Hill said.

“The comedian has been the surprise package of the series and is the one to beat in the final few weeks of the show.”

Not far behind him is chart-topper HRVY, 21, who alongside EastEnders star Maisie Smith, 19, had been leading the charge early on in the competition.

The singer now stands at 5/2 to win the show, with the soap actress at 6/1, putting her in the third position at the moment.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7:25pm on BBC One. It Takes Two airs weeknights at 6:30pm on BBC Two.

She replied: “In my own industry I don’t find it difficult but when I’m on Strictly, for example.

“I’m a little more sensitive to people who are non-dancers and they have to get a dance ready in a few days and put it out at the weekend, in front of millions of viewers!

“So, I do carry that a little bit with me in my heart, it’s a lot of work,” she admitted.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7:15pm on BBC One and Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh airs Sundays from 10am on ITV.

Strictly’s Shirley Ballas hits back after Craig Revel Horwood row: ‘Don’t need critiquing’ https://briefnews.eu/strictlys-shirley-ballas-hits-back-after-craig-revel-horwood-row-dont-need-critiquing/ https://briefnews.eu/strictlys-shirley-ballas-hits-back-after-craig-revel-horwood-row-dont-need-critiquing/#respond Fri, 02 Oct 2020 20:42:17 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/strictlys-shirley-ballas-hits-back-after-craig-revel-horwood-row-dont-need-critiquing/

The soap star’s chances of winning currently stand at 2/1, with The Wanted singer Max George, 32, her hottest competition at 5/1.

“We think that Maisie is the one to beat on the dance floor this year and price her up as the hot favourite to win Strictly 2020,” Coral spokesperson Harry Aitkenhead said.

On the other end of the spectrum, comedian Bill Bailey, 55, and former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, 57, are at 50/1 to win.

“We think that Bill and Jacqui are going to be battling it out to avoid being the first celebrity of the series to be eliminated, and their odds of winning are very long indeed,” Aitkenhead added.

Strictly Come Dancing returns this month on BBC One.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas addresses Bruno ‘abandoning’ 2020 show https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancings-shirley-ballas-addresses-bruno-abandoning-2020-show/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancings-shirley-ballas-addresses-bruno-abandoning-2020-show/#respond Fri, 26 Jun 2020 01:27:25 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancings-shirley-ballas-addresses-bruno-abandoning-2020-show/

The highly-anticipated Strictly Come Dancing 2020 show is only a matter of months away form kick off and the rumour mill has gone into overdrive with potential celebrity contestants, major show changes due to coronavirus and even judge replacements. But while so much is up in the air with the on-going public health threat, head judge Shirley Ballas addressed speculation that Bruno Tonioli will not be appearing this year.

There have been numerous reports that the infamous choreographer’s position will be in jeopardy, as other work commitments could make his attendance difficult.

Bruno, who has been a member of the Strictly family since the programme first aired back in 2004, also judges the US version of Strictly, Dancing With The Stars, and takes a brief from the BBC show midway to fulfil his commitments on the panel over the pond.

He’s usually replaced for a matter of weeks or so by a celebrity guest and vice versa in the US.

And, due to coronavirus forcing countries across the globe to lockdown to keep their citizen’s safe, travelling to and from America and the UK could be a tad tricky.

But since sources speculated that he would choose the US version over the British extravaganza, Shirley branded the claims as “just rumours.”

Speaking on talkRADIO on Thursday, she brushed off concerns regarding Bruno’s situation.

“They are again rumours. So it will be according to the flights – if he can get backwards and forwards safely but knowing Bruno and he’s such an amazing man, he will do everything in his power not to let the British public down,” she explained.

“So let’s keep our fingers crossed. It will all go down to guidelines and rules.”

But a source relayed their concerns to The Sun – if they can axe Lord Sugar’s iconic show that has been on-air ever year since 2005, what does that mean for other huge hits such as Strictly?

“It does also beg the question what the knock-on effect to other shows could be. If the Apprentice can’t film, can Strictly and others?” they said.

“It’s a stark warning to the industry that even the biggest shows are not immune from this crisis.”

But the head judge revealed her latest knowledge on the situation that BBC continue to monitor as the start date draws ever nearer.

Emma’s feedback was: “I think Emma has grown so much through the competition,” but Shirley revealed she was “worried about Emma’s confidence” at the beginning.

Strictly 2019: Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas in HUGE row leaving Emma Barton near tears https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-and-shirley-ballas-in-huge-row-leaving-emma-barton-near-tears/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-and-shirley-ballas-in-huge-row-leaving-emma-barton-near-tears/#respond Sun, 03 Nov 2019 10:56:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-and-shirley-ballas-in-huge-row-leaving-emma-barton-near-tears/

Anton hit back: Sometimes there are four steps and three beats. Sometimes there are five steps and seven beats.

“Sometimes there are no steps,” he said, while shouting above the head judge.

Shirley didn’t let the interruption get to her, adding: “The first thing required in any dance is movement to music.

“You have to stay on time, thank you.”

Emma was close to tears when she heard the feedback, but managed to keep it together.

EastEnders spoilers: Phil Mitchell for steamy affair with Shirley Carter after baby shock? https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-phil-mitchell-for-steamy-affair-with-shirley-carter-after-baby-shock/ https://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-phil-mitchell-for-steamy-affair-with-shirley-carter-after-baby-shock/#respond Sat, 08 Jun 2019 03:57:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/eastenders-spoilers-phil-mitchell-for-steamy-affair-with-shirley-carter-after-baby-shock/

EastEnders dropped its shocking summer trailer earlier today and it has been hinted Phil (played by Steve McFadden) could cheat on wife Sharon (Letitia Dean).

Sharon has been playing away with Keanu (Danny Walters) who is also dating Phil’s daughter Louise (Tilly Keeper).

Louise is expecting the mechanic’s baby and Sharon is expected to find out she too is having a baby in coming weeks.

Now, the long-running BBC soap has teased fireworks this summer as Keanu and Sharon’s affair looks set to be revealed while Phil grows closer to Shirley (Linda Henry).

In the teaser the pair can be seen smiling at one another as they sit in Sharon’s club E20.

Phil tells Shirley: “Welcome aboard,” hinting they are making a deal. The pair have already enjoyed a romance in the past but split in 2014.

Could Sharon’s betrayal lead to sparks flying behind the former flames?

Meanwhile, it looks like Phil will learn the truth about Keanu and Sharon and it won’t go down well.

The hardman is pictured looking devastated as he looks at a laptop with Sharon lurking in the background wearing a very worried expression.

Later, Sharon is seen breaking down in tears and screaming. She is also seen attacking Keanu’s mother Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley).

Is this a big hint Karen will expose Sharon and Keanu’s affair as she tries to work out what is best for her son?

Unfortunately it seems Keanu will end up in hot water anyway as he appears to have been kidnapped and blindfolded.

The mechanic also looks badly beaten up – has Phil taken him as revenge?

In other EastEnders news, it looks like Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) could reunite with Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick).

Honey is currently in love with Adam Bateman (Stephen Rahman-Hughes) but the dentist has been cheating on her with Habiba Ahmed (Rukku Nahar).

Billy spotted the pair kissing and has tried to warn his estranged wife but she wasn’t interested in listening to him.

Fans have since seen Honey move in with Adam leaving Habiba heartbroken. But the pair have decided to continue with their tryst.

With Billy set on exposing Adam, just how far will he go to reveal the truth about the affair?

Could he enlist the help of Habiba who clearly wants Adam to herself?

EastEnders continues Monday on BBC One at 8pm.

Strictly Come Dancing 2018: Shirley Ballas says bizarre ROYALTY mistake caused name gaffe https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-shirley-ballas-says-bizarre-royalty-mistake-caused-name-gaffe/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-shirley-ballas-says-bizarre-royalty-mistake-caused-name-gaffe/#respond Fri, 30 Nov 2018 20:49:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-shirley-ballas-says-bizarre-royalty-mistake-caused-name-gaffe/

Last weekend’s edition of Strictly Come Dancing was an explosive one as the series trialled its first Lindyhopathon in a bid to give the remaining contestants a chance to win extra points.

Chaos ensued on the BBC show as things started to go wrong with the carefully planned set up for the dance extravaganza.

And then in a startling twist the Queen of Latin said Karen’s name wrong.

Appearing on This Morning to discuss the series today, Shirley addressed what had really happened to presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.

“It’s much easier than the first season, you’re holding the paddle pressing the things you know,” she began. “One or two glitches here and there, but basically it goes quite well.”

Not willing to let Shirley off that easily, Eamonn pressed: “What happened with iPad gate last week? Because we feel for you, we know you press the [home] button and you go like that to the home screen.”

“Well Darcey was doing the iPads,” Shirley answered with a smile. “And Craig had to write in his way, you know, first through seventh.

“The iPad seemed to go down and then we were fumbling for this piece of paper.”

Recalling the evening’s events, Shirley continued: “And for a split second I glanced up and saw royalty there.

“And then as I glanced down I saw Charles [Venn] and Karen, and it just rolled off my tongue [Prince] Charles and [Princess] Diana.”

The star laughed as she admitted her strange association and Ruth and Eamonn’s eyebrows raised at the story.

“I did apologise to Karen,” the judge insisted. “She took it with a great sense of humour. But yeah it’s just live TV so that happens…”

Keen to show her support for the guest, Ruth assured: “Always proves it’s live doesn’t it?”

“And actually people quite like it sometimes when it goes a little bit wrong… just a little bit wrong, don’t they?” she giggled conspiratorially.

The royal audience members Shirley had been referring to were Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and her mother Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

The two women were pictured standing up and cheering on the acts as they delivered their show-stopping performances, particularly former contestant Graeme Swann and his professional dance partner Oti Mabuse.

The pair danced a traditional Quickstep and had most of the audience on their feet, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to save them from the public vote.

Forced to dance against Ashley Roberts and Pasha Kovalev in the dance off, Graeme and Oti lost out as the judges unanimously voted to save the former Pussycat Dolls singer.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7.10pm on BBC One.

Strictly Come Dancing 2018: Shirley Ballas takes SWIPE at former contestant in shock snub https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-shirley-ballas-takes-swipe-at-former-contestant-in-shock-snub/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-shirley-ballas-takes-swipe-at-former-contestant-in-shock-snub/#respond Sat, 17 Nov 2018 06:12:04 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-shirley-ballas-takes-swipe-at-former-contestant-in-shock-snub/

Friday’s instalment of Strictly Come Dancing companion series It Takes Two is always an hour long, and as such, the Zoe Ball-presented show features a “Friday panel” of celebrities and various segments not normally on the rest of the week.

Tonight’s opening featured a mock-serious competition between the panellists, but former contestant Alexandra Burke and TV puppet star Basil Brush became the finalists.

Alexandra gave it her all to a soul classic, and swung her arms around dramatically.

Basil on the other hand, donned a bright pink feather boa and got down to a 90s dance hit on the BBC programme.

As the pair waited for their fates in anguish, Zoe, 47, switched to Shirley Ballas for the verdict.

Sharing her feelings on the performance, Shirley explain it was all down to “timing”.

Unfortunately, Alexandra instantly thought the judge was talking about her dance moves on the show.

“Due to great timing, and sophistication, I’m going to choose Basil,” Shirley suddenly declared.

Horrified, Alexandra’s jaw dropped almost immediately, and the singer proceeded to pretend she was going to cry.

On the other side of the screen, a smug Basil declared: “Boom boom, roll titles!”

Also on the show, presenter Gethin Jones interviewed Stacey Dooley, Ashley Roberts, Faye Tozer and Lauren Steadman ahead of this weekend’s performances.

Ashley spilled all on her experience with the brand new studio at Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom, but revealed she’s had to have her costume adapted for her all-important Jive.

“Maybe the bounce will help me in the Jive,” she reasoned, referring to the ballroom’s specially bouncy floor for dancers.

“But it’s slippery out there,” the contestant shared. “So I need a bit of extra rubber on those babies.”

Ashley also spilled all on her activities in the iconic English city.

“I didn’t know riding a donkey was what to do here,” she admitted in response to Gethin’s joke about the activity.

“I will look out for that little donkey and I will give it a ride.”

Making her fellow contestants Lauren Steadman, Stacey Dooley and Faye Tozer giggle, Ashley then declared: “I was at a fish and chip shop yesterday!”

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow at 6.45pm on BBC one.

Strictly Come Dancing 2018: 'You NEED harshness' Judy Murray addresses Shirley criticism https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-you-need-harshness-judy-murray-addresses-shirley-criticism/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-you-need-harshness-judy-murray-addresses-shirley-criticism/#respond Sat, 29 Sep 2018 15:39:59 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-you-need-harshness-judy-murray-addresses-shirley-criticism/

Tennis coach and television personality Judy Murray took part in hit reality competition Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, and excelled at the variety of ballroom dancing.

The 59-year-old was paired up with the BBC series’ long-running professional dancer Anton du Beke, and managed to get all the way to the Blackpool Tower Ballroom for a dance extravaganza.

Yet swiping the glitterball trophy wasn’t to be for the Scottish contestant, and she was knocked out following her epic Mary Poppins performance in the penultimate week.

Judy is a self-confessed Strictly fanatic, and while she took part during favourite Len Goodman’s reign on the show, she still thinks 58-year-old Queen of Latin Shirley has something new to bring to the judging panel.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the star shared: “I think she’s really good. She obviously knows her stuff, I think she communicates it well.

“With the judges, I think you need that mixture of fun, the harshness, the practicality, you need some to be technical, some to be more encouraging perhaps.

“You need a real mix of it.”

Judy went on to speculate over whether viewers have seen the real Shirley yet however, as last year saw the judge gradually dip her toe into her new role.

The tennis aficionado explained: “They are all experts in their particular field of dance and come from different dancing backgrounds.

“But probably because it’s only been her first series – she’s the one you haven’t really got much of a feel for.

“[Dame] Darcey [Bussell], Craig [Revel-Horwood] and Bruno [Tonioli] have been around for a long time.

“You’ll probably find her coming more into her own now she’s settled into it for the second series.”

Judy could be right, as so far the first episode of the dazzling dance competition showed Shirley as arguably the most critical judge, even more so than the notoriously tough Craig, 53.

When Seann Walsh took his first spin across the dance floor Shirley wasted no time in ordering the contestant to sort out his hair and “tidy himself up a bit”.

The comedian emerged from the stage with his professional partner Katya Jones, and appeared to be taking his role impersonating a bodyguard very seriously – all to the soundtrack of Justin Timberlake’s Sexy Back.

The pair kicked and spun their way through the energetic number, before arriving at the judges’ panel to receive their praise or criticism.

But the pair’s attempts weren’t enough to impress the head judge, as Shirley insisted she wanted to see something “a bit more classic”.

How will the contestants fare against the judges during the second show which kicks off tonight? And will tomorrow’s first evictee be unexpected?

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.30pm on BBC One.
