At today’s GTC conference keynote, Nvidia announced that its H100 Tensor Core GPU is in full production and that tech partners such as Dell, Lenovo, Cisco, Atos, Fujitsu, GIGABYTE, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, and Supermicro will begin shipping products built around the H100 next month.

The H100, part of the “Hopper” architecture, is the most powerful AI-focused GPU Nvidia has ever made, surpassing its previous high-end chip, the A100. The H100 includes 80 billion transistors and a special “Transformer Engine” to accelerate machine learning tasks. It also supports Nvidia NVLink, which links GPUs together to multiply performance.

According to the Nvidia press release, the H100 also reportedly delivers efficiency benefits, offering the same performance as the A100 with 3.5 times better energy efficiency, 3 times lower cost of ownership, using 5 times fewer server nodes.

‘Ship Shape: How Your Favorite Pairs From This Is Us, Jane, The Resident, Riverdale and Other Shows Are Faring https://briefnews.eu/ship-shape-how-your-favorite-pairs-from-this-is-us-jane-the-resident-riverdale-and-other-shows-are-faring/ https://briefnews.eu/ship-shape-how-your-favorite-pairs-from-this-is-us-jane-the-resident-riverdale-and-other-shows-are-faring/#respond Fri, 29 Mar 2019 15:25:10 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ship-shape-how-your-favorite-pairs-from-this-is-us-jane-the-resident-riverdale-and-other-shows-are-faring/

Here at TVLine, we don’t just report on revivals — we can create our own, too!

Case in point: We’re shaking the dust off ‘Ship Shape, a recurring feature we first introduced back in 2013 (simpler times…) to track the relationship statuses of our favorite TV couples. This romance report is being resurrected as we approach May Sweeps, which will surely steer some of these ‘ships into choppy waters.

In addition to tracking the latest developments for these on-screen pairs, we’re also offering our own forecasts for each couple, from the sunny skies ahead for Riverdale‘s ‘Bughead’ to the potentially stormy future that surely awaits This Is Us‘ Beth and Randall.

Our latest ‘Ship Shape also includes updates from Arrow, Grey’s Anatomy, The Flash, Jane the Virgin, The Resident and more shows.

If you don’t see your favorite love match represented this time around, be sure to give ’em a shout-out in the comments for future consideration.

Scroll through the attached gallery — or click here for direct access — to get the latest updates, then drop a comment and tell us: Which love stories are you rooting for?

Let’s block ads! (Why?)

Virgin unveils adults-only cruise ship complete with free dining and tattoo parlour https://briefnews.eu/virgin-unveils-adults-only-cruise-ship-complete-with-free-dining-and-tattoo-parlour/ https://briefnews.eu/virgin-unveils-adults-only-cruise-ship-complete-with-free-dining-and-tattoo-parlour/#respond Thu, 24 Jan 2019 19:58:42 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/virgin-unveils-adults-only-cruise-ship-complete-with-free-dining-and-tattoo-parlour/

Virgin Voyages has given cruise fans a sneak peak into its new ship the Scarlet Lady, which will launch in the USA next year. The cruise ship has been described as “Adult by Design, a sanctuary at sea for the 18 plus traveller.” It will host 2,770 passengers – which it calls sailors – and will offer a mix of itineraries, including voyages to Cuba on select sailings. Virgin Voyages are aiming to give their passengers more value for money. Free fitness classes, free dining, free filtered water and all sodas are included in the voyage fare.

There will also be a series of RockStar suites which Virgin claims are “throwing out traditional clichés on luxury and formalities.”

Eighty-six per cent of Virgin Voyages cabins will feature a balcony and 93 per cent will feature an ocean view.

Highlights of the Massive Suite, the top suite aboard the Scarlet Lady, include its own guitar-clad music room, views of the ocean from every corner of the suite and a massive terrace, complete with its own Peek-a-View outdoor shower, hot tub, hammocks and a runway outdoor dining table.

“Virgin has always avoided stuffy formalities and brought a lot of excitement and a bit of rebelliousness to our customer experiences,” said Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group.

“With these glamorous suites, Virgin Voyages is bringing rock and roll to the high seas and spoiling our Sailors like the rockstars they are.”

Tom McAlpin CEO of Virgin Voyages, added: “We have combined brilliant design and Virgin Voyages’ epic Sailor experience vision to create a completely new version of luxury – Rebellious Luxe, which is at the intersection of luxury and a rebellious attitude that makes everything we do different, indulgent and meaningfully relevant to our Sailors.

“Whether they want to sleep all day, praise the sun with yoga at dusk or party all night, our RockStar Suite Sailors can live out their fantasies aboard the Scarlet Lady.”

Well-being will be at the forefront of the onboard experience, activated through a mix of high-energy moments coupled with relaxation and rejuvenation.

There is an athletics club, running track, 360-degree ocean view yoga spot and a variety of fitness rooms.

Numerous restaurants can be found on board, offering every cuisine from steak and seafood to Mexican and pizza.

There is also a Korean restaurant which is “destined to be the loudest eatery on board, each meal will begin with a complimentary round of soju for the table and throughout the evening sailors are encouraged to take part lively Korean drinking games.”

Four lounges have currently been revealed – but more are to come, according to Virgin. One is inspired by New York sports clubs of the 1920’s; the space features oversized gaming for outdoor adult play, the largest daybed at sea, cabanas for relaxation, a sports bar for socialising post-workout and more.

On top of this, there are many grooming and pampering spaces, including an upscale barber shop, the first-ever tattoo studio on board a cruise ship and spa parties.

Virgin Voyages is committed to having one of the cleanest fleets at sea and has banned single-use plastics on board its ships.

Virgin has three more ships on order, due for delivery in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

In further cruise news, the Royal Caribbean’ Navigator of the Seas has revealed its incredible new on-board feature – the world’s longest waterslide at sea. The 800ft aqua-coaster is part of a $ 115milion makeover.

“Each Royal Caribbean ship brings a new adventure uniquely designed to deliver on our guests’ preferences from A to Z,” said Michael Bayley, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean International.

“Every detail matters and we’ve mapped out an unmatched combination of innovative features and experiences for this top-to-bottom transformation of Navigator of the Seas.”

Cruise ship secrets: Be wary of crew using THIS code word – it could mean there’s a fire https://briefnews.eu/cruise-ship-secrets-be-wary-of-crew-using-this-code-word-it-could-mean-theres-a-fire/ https://briefnews.eu/cruise-ship-secrets-be-wary-of-crew-using-this-code-word-it-could-mean-theres-a-fire/#respond Thu, 24 Jan 2019 11:29:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/cruise-ship-secrets-be-wary-of-crew-using-this-code-word-it-could-mean-theres-a-fire/

Cruise ships sail far and wide, from European destinations such as France and Germany to more exotic locations like the Caribbean. Cruises these days offer a host of luxuries, including onboard zip lining and water parks. But no matter how big or how opulent a cruise ship is, things can still go wrong. Brandon Presser served as a cruise director for a week, and during his time he picked a number of key codes crew members use onboard in emergencies, such as a fire.

He told Bloomberg in the event of a fire, the codeword they use is ‘Bravo’.

Other codewords used, using the NATO phonetic alphabet, are ‘Alpha’, used in a medical emergency, and ‘Kilo’, which is a request for all personnel to report to their emergency posts.

Presser said this can occur in the event of an evacuation.

He added: “It’s crucial for the staff to have code words so that passengers don’t get freaked out if something goes wrong.

“A ’30-30′ means the crew is asking maintenance to clean up a mess; three times during my stint I called in a ‘PVI’ (public vomiting incident).”

But the codewords to be most wary of are ’Echo’ and ‘Oscar’.

He said: “Be wary of ‘Echo’, which is called if the ship is starting to drift, or ‘Oscar’, which means someone’s gone overboard. A crew member told me he’s had only four or five ‘Oscars’ in 10 years of cruising.”

Another codeword which could be used by crew members on a ship is ‘Sierra’, which means ‘call for a stretcher’.

If someone dies on a cruise ship the announcement ‘Operation Bright Star’ is made, which alerts the crew to the death of a passenger.

Tina Molson, 52, from Cleethorpes, who worked in an onboard duty-free shop from 2002 to 2010, has explained that deaths aren’t that rare.

“Many of the older passengers go on cruise ships for months because it’s cheaper for them than living at home. Some even go to sea to die,” Tina told The Sun.

“There was often a death on board. On one ship we had a shop store room next to the freezer room where the bodies were stored. We called it the ‘coffin locker.’”

But cruises aren’t all doom and gloom – cruise ships were recently put under the spotlight by consumer watchdog Which? and a new firm has scooped the title ‘best cruise line’.

Viking Ocean Cruises UK was given the top spot with the survey of 20 companies.

The result was based on customer feedback, with a total of 25,000 people answering questions about cabin space, onboard facilities, WiFi service and overall value.

Viking received an average customer satisfaction of 88 per cent.

Cruise ship line Royal Caribbean has banned a group of Canadian men from ever travelling with them again after one of them was filmed jumping off a balcony into the ocean. A video of the daredevil leap is rapidly going viral after it was posted to Instagram. Nick Naydev estimated he jumped from the eleventh floor of the 18-floor Symphony of the Seas, making it a leap of about ”110-120 feet.” Naydev did the perilous stunt while the cruise ship was docked in the Bahamas, USA.

“He’s jumped from those kinds of heights before, and we didn’t really care about the consequences with the cruise company,” Konstantin Kryachun, who filmed the clip, told Yahoo Lifestyle. “We just wanted to get a video of it and make it go viral.”

The Instagram video has accrued nearly 160,000 views. Naydev uploaded it to his account with the caption “Full send.”

It shows the group laughing as Naydev climbs onto the railing and leaping into the water. The moment of impact was not captured – the irony of which was not lost on viewers.

“I was still drunk from the previous night,” Naydev said on Instagram about the incident.

“When I woke up I just decided to jump. “My feet were actually fine. It was my neck and tailbone that hurt.”

Some viewers have criticised the man while others have been impressed. “You are SO STUPID. If people copy this and gets hurt, it’s all because of YOU!” one person wrote. Another commented: “Living legend.”

Naydev responded to one Instagram comment explaining he had been picked up from the water by a small boat.

In another post, he revealed how he felt afterwards: ”I could barely walk for 3 days because my ass hurt so bad,” he commented. “The flight home was a nightmare but I’m fine now.”

The act resulted in the ground being forbidden to sail with Royal Caribbean ever again, however.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “This was stupid and reckless behaviour.

“He and his companions have been banned from ever sailing with us again. We are exploring legal action.”

‘Balconing’ has been a rising trend since 2010 and has resulted in a number of deaths of young British tourists on holiday.

The Foreign Office has issued a warning on the gov.uk website about the perils of the reckless stunt: “There have been a number of very serious accidents (some fatal) as a result of falls from balconies.

“Many of these incidents have involved British nationals and have had a devastating impact on those involved and their loved ones.

“Don’t take unnecessary risks around balconies, particularly if you’re under the influence of drink or drugs.

“Your travel insurance may not cover you for incidents that take place on a balcony or if you were under the influence of drink or drugs when it happened.”

Royal Caribbean cruise hit by norovirus outbreak – guests banned from leaving ship https://briefnews.eu/royal-caribbean-cruise-hit-by-norovirus-outbreak-guests-banned-from-leaving-ship/ https://briefnews.eu/royal-caribbean-cruise-hit-by-norovirus-outbreak-guests-banned-from-leaving-ship/#respond Fri, 11 Jan 2019 01:06:21 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/royal-caribbean-cruise-hit-by-norovirus-outbreak-guests-banned-from-leaving-ship/

One of the largest cruise liners in the world has been infected with norovirus as it pulled into port in Jamaica. Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas, which is currently home to 9,000 guests, put a ban on passengers leaving the vessel as they drafted in emergency medication. A total of 167 people are confirmed to have been struck down by the infection, which is a winter stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea. The vessel was transporting guests to the sunshine hotspot from Florida.

It docked in Falmouth, which is in the northern side of Jamaica, before the illness was flagged to staff.

Its passengers were in the midst of a seven day cruise around the Caribbean islands.

Owen Torres, a spokesman for Royal Caribbean, told FLORIDA TODAY of the outbreak which happened on Wednesday and said: “As of today, 167 cases of gastrointestinal illness have been reported since Sunday, representing two percent of the nearly 9,000 guests and crew on board.

“Those affected by the short-lived illness are being treated by our ship’s medical team with over-the-counter medication.

“Meanwhile, we are bringing additional medical staff on board and we’re engaging in intensive sanitary procedures to minimize the risk of any further issues.”

It is unclear whether the cruise ship was in quarantine.

Meanwhile, it is the latest in a line of mass illnesses to affect cruise passengers.

In October, German holidaymakers were forced to stay in their cabins and eat bread and water after a sickness bug swept the luxury liner Aida Prima, it has been claimed.

Around 300 passengers were left suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea by the suspected virus onboard the cruise ship.

The ship departed Palma in Majorca, Spain on 22 September but its Mediterranean voyage was cut short by the mass illness.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported that ill passengers had to queue for three hours to give officials details on their illness.

They then allegedly had to wait for five hours for the doctor to come to their cabin, only for the medical professional to stay just a few minutes.

Staff are said to have distributed leaflets with hygiene advice while sick passengers were brought bread and water in their cabins.

The ship docked back at Palma earlier than planned. To prevent the disease from spreading, passengers were taken by bus to a farm on the outskirts of the city to wait for flights back to Germany.

Express.co.uk has contacted Royal Caribbean for comment.

Cruise secrets: Why can passengers never find this mysterious location on a cruise ship? https://briefnews.eu/cruise-secrets-why-can-passengers-never-find-this-mysterious-location-on-a-cruise-ship/ https://briefnews.eu/cruise-secrets-why-can-passengers-never-find-this-mysterious-location-on-a-cruise-ship/#respond Sat, 08 Dec 2018 15:22:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/cruise-secrets-why-can-passengers-never-find-this-mysterious-location-on-a-cruise-ship/

Cruise ships may be filled with the latest technology and top entertainment – but there is one thing many vessels do not have.

Numerous cruise ships will omit one important place from the boat.

Some of the world’s biggest cruise lines refuse to have a 13th deck.

Instead, the decks will be numbered up to 12 and then skip straight to number 14.

Deck 13 simply doesn’t exist on these boats – but why are so many cruise companies doing this?

The reason behind such a glaring omission is not due to a construction error.

In fact, the explanation is entirely down to superstition and the belief that number 13 is unlucky.

Cruise liners are not alone in this. Many hotels also refuse to have a floor 13 or a room 13.

There is, in fact, a name for the phobia of the number 13 – triskaidekaphobia. This translates to a morbid fear of the number 13.

According to Otis Elevators, up to 85 per cent of lift panels don’t include the 13th floor.

However, the omission of deck 13 on cruise ships is in fact to help passengers who might suffer from triskaidekaphobia.

Some cruisers may simply refuse to book rooms of the 13th floor.

Andy Harmer, SVP Membership & Director, CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) said: “As superstition goes, in some cultures the number 13 is considered ‘unlucky for some’.

“Like hotels around the world that don’t have a floor 13 or room 13, the cruise sector is very much the same with many of the cruise lines skipping out deck 13.

“With so many international holidaymakers choosing to take a cruise holiday, a number of cruise lines have chosen to do this, simply in line with the tradition.”

However, not all cruise lines conform to this superstition. A Cunard spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “We actually have a deck 13 on Queen Mary 2.”

The MSC Meraviglia also has a deck 13, as seen on the new deck plan valid from Summer 2019.

But passengers have reported the absence of 13 on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas as well as on several Carnival ships, including Dream and Glory.

Express.co.uk has contacted Carnival for comment and Royal Caribbean declined to comment.

Cruise ship superstitions do not stop at deck 13, however. It’s also considered very bad luck to bring bananas on board a ship.

Cruise passengers left STRANDED in holiday nightmare when ship leaves without them https://briefnews.eu/cruise-passengers-left-stranded-in-holiday-nightmare-when-ship-leaves-without-them/ https://briefnews.eu/cruise-passengers-left-stranded-in-holiday-nightmare-when-ship-leaves-without-them/#respond Fri, 07 Dec 2018 13:55:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/cruise-passengers-left-stranded-in-holiday-nightmare-when-ship-leaves-without-them/

Cruise ship passengers were horrified when, during a stop-off to Havana, Cuba, their Norwegian Cruise Line ship left the island without them. US tourist Kevin Rohrer and his girlfriend returned to the dock after a day of exploring the city only to find they were completely stranded. The ship, Norwegian Sky, had left without them, despite the couple making it back well in time for its 5pm departure. Without the pair realising, the vessel had changed its departure time from 5pm to 2pm.

“It was a frightening situation. We were devastated,” Rohrer said in his complaint to the cruise company, reported Australian news site News.com.au.

“We exchanged money and we took a taxi to the airport. American Airlines told us they wouldn’t take a credit card and quoted us 472 pesos ($ 466). We didn’t have that much money.”

Norwegian is now refusing to compensate the two passengers for their predicament.

Rohrer produced an itinerary which showed the ship was due to leave Havana at 5pm.

However, the couple had missed a change to the itinerary which the cruise line had alerted passengers to in the daily news letter.

The newsletter was delivered to all passenger’s cabins, but Roher claims he hadn’t had time to read it before getting stranded.

Norwegian directed Rohrer to its terms and conditions when responding to his complaint.

It said: “In all ports of call, it is also the guest’s responsibility to be back on-board the ship no later than one hour prior to the ship’s scheduled departure time.

“Please be aware that shipboard time may differ from the port of call and it is the guest’s responsibility to follow the shipboard time.

“In the event a guest misses the ship, it will be the guest’s responsibility to pay all expenses incurred to rejoin the ship.”

Rohrer sought help from Michelle Couch-Friedman from consumer rights group Elliott Advocacy, following the incident.

He claimed Norwegian “made no effort to inform travellers of [the] change.”

In a statement sent to Couch-Friedman, Norwegian said that more than a month before the Havana stop, the company notified guests of the time change and circulated it on their e-documents, reported News.com.au.

The statement said: “Additionally, the day before calling into Havana, the Cruise Director announced the new time repeatedly throughout the day and additional signage was placed on the gangway for all those disembarking to see.”

However, Rohrer denies hearing of any change to the schedule. He is now understood to be in contact with a lawyer regarding the incident.

Cruise ships are also clamping down on one thing in particular, it has been revealed.
