Yep, Llama got the boot at the end of Wednesday’s episode. And I was sad to see him go: White Tiger’s off-key warbling and cornball dance moves are getting old fast, and I’d much rather have seen that cat take a hike (though the judges seem to looooove him) than to have the woolly weirdo pack it all in.

Ah well. Read on for a quick recap of the performances (and to find out who was under Llama’s big ol’ head).

The Masked Singer Recap Season 3 Episode 2 Llama Unmasked

LLAMA | This week’s clue package establishes Llama as someone whose career was stalling before he learned to envision his success “and to think on my feet”— like a stand-up or improv comedian, perhaps? He was playing an accordion in the montage, as well. And I realized this week that Llama wears a camera around his neck — all of these cemented my guess before he sang a single note of Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual.” The performance bopped right along, and he carried the tune well (if not expertly). (My guess: The Price Is Right host Drew Carey.)

MISS MONSTER | My name is Kim Roots, and I was today years old when I realized that “Fancy” wasn’t first recorded by Reba McEntire. [hangs head in shame] Once past that severe gap in my country-music education, however, I very much enjoyed Miss Monster’s take on the classic tune. Though she didn’t move much during her performance (more fodder for the idea that maybe she’s an aging R&B diva), she sure knew how to build the energy in that last chorus (also likely more fodder for the idea that maybe she’s an aging R&B diva). (My guess: “Ain’t Nobody” singer Chaka Khan.)

WHITE TIGER | We’ve already established that White Tiger is my least favorite competitor this season, so all I’ll say is that something about the way he sings the repeated “C’mon!” in Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch’s “Good Vibrations” infuriates me in a way that even his half-assed flossing does not. “You could’ve muted the song, and it would’ve been an incredibly entertaining performance,” judge Robin Thicke said afterward. He meant it as a compliment, but it really wasn’t. Clues in the video included: a skiing cow, a book called Wild World of Cats and the big cat saying, “Dancing heals my body after taking a beating.” (My guess: Former Patriots tight end Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski.)

The Masked Singer Recap Season 3 Episode 2 Llama UnmaskedKANGAROO | Kangaroo’s clue package started off with her on the basketball court, which got guest judge Jason Biggs (Outmatched) thinking about the theme song to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and guessing that the marvelous marsupial was actually that show’s Tatyana Ali… whose talents, as showcased during her time as Ashley Banks, included a strong set of pipes. Then she mentioned that she wants to be a role model for “my little ‘roo,” and it certainly seems like new mom Ali is a good guess. Her performance of Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” was impressive, as well. (My guess: Ali.)

TURTLE | The Shelled One’s falsetto was once again on rather nice display during James Arthur’s “Say You Won’t Let Go,” which is as pretty a song about vomiting as I’ve ever heard. You can tell Turtle has experience building a song through its emotional climax; that, along with a handful of nods in his video set-up (and some incredibly fervent comments from readers of last week’s recap) have me changing my mind about his boy-band past. (My guess: Summerland and All My Children alum Jesse McCartney.)

THE UNMASKING | When Llama is unmasked, he’s revealed to be Carey.

Now it’s your turn! What did you think of the episode? Did this week’s clues change your mind about any of the performers? Let us know in the comments!

On Friday, oil major Royal Dutch Shell and German energy storage company Sonnen announced that Shell would acquire Sonnen for an undisclosed amount.

Sonnen has been one of the top competitors with Tesla’s Powerwall in the US home battery market. The company built its base in Germany, attaching batteries for self-consumption to homes with solar panels. Sonnen now claims 40,000 batteries installed in households in Germany, the US, and Australia.

The company’s assets include proprietary software that optimizes a home’s battery use in combination with solar power.

  • Victorina Morales, who publicly came forward and told The New York Times she is an unauthorized immigrant working at one of President Donald Trump’s properties, said she’s unsure what will happen to her in the wake of the controversy.
  • Morales did not report for work on Friday, and ignored a call from her supervisor.
  • She told The Times she was frustrated with Trump’s constant invectives against illegal immigration — despite the fact that he has hired them.
  • “We are tired of the abuse, the insults, the way he talks about us when he knows that we are here helping him make money,” she said.

The woman who revealed to The New York Times she is an unauthorized immigrant working as a housekeeper at President Donald Trump’s New Jersey golf club says she has no idea what will happen to her in the wake of her explosive interview.

Victorina Morales, who told the newspaper she came to the US illegally from Guatemala in 1999 and has worked at Trump’s Bedminster property since 2013, did not report for work on Friday.

Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Shinji Araki (Appleseed) are set to serve as directors on the project using next-generation animation, with Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell) and SOLA DIGITAL ARTS (Netflix’s upcoming Ultraman anime) serving as the production studios.

Previous adaptations of Ghost in the Shell include a 1995 anime cyberpunk film, the 2004 anime TV series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and a live-action 2017 movie that controversially starred the not-Japanese Scarlett Johansson as Motoko.

  • Christine Blasey Ford’s attorneys asked for more time to decide whether Ford will speak to the Senate Judiciary Committee about her claim that Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in the 1980s.
  • Committee chairman Chuck Grassley granted the request Friday night. He initially gave them until 10 p.m. ET Friday to respond, otherwise the committee would move to vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.
  • In a letter to the committee cited by CNN on Friday night, Ford’s lawyer, Debra Katz, rebuked the committee for taking what she called a “cavalier” attitude toward “a sexual assault survivor who has been doing her best to cooperate with the Committee.”
  • “Our modest request is that she be given an additional day to make her decision,” Katz wrote.

Christine Blasey Ford’s attorneys say they need more time to decide whether Ford will speak to the Senate Judiciary Committee about her claim that Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in the 1980s.

In a letter to the committee cited by CNN on Friday night, Ford’s lawyer, Debra Katz, scolded the committee for taking what she called a “cavalier” attitude toward “a sexual assault survivor who has been doing her best to cooperate with the Committee.”

‘It’s okay, she’ll be 16 soon’: Dallas man charged after telling cop about 15yo ‘wife’ https://briefnews.eu/its-okay-shell-be-16-soon-dallas-man-charged-after-telling-cop-about-15yo-wife/ https://briefnews.eu/its-okay-shell-be-16-soon-dallas-man-charged-after-telling-cop-about-15yo-wife/#respond Sun, 15 Jul 2018 14:13:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/its-okay-shell-be-16-soon-dallas-man-charged-after-telling-cop-about-15yo-wife/

A Dallas man had a bizarre explanation for why he was with a 15-year-old girl after falling foul of the law for parking in a disabled parking space – the girl was his wife, he reportedly told police.

Jose Nahun Lopez-Cruz, 24, offered the confession after an officer spotted the pair getting out of a car parked in a disabled spot in the Trinity Groves area of Dallas, according to police records seen by the Dallas Morning News. The officer then asked the man about an open can of alcohol in the car, which the man said belonged to his teenage companion.

When policeman inquired about the girl’s age and her relationship to the man, Lopez-Cruz made the revelation, adding: “It’s okay. She is gonna be 16 soon.”

The girl was interviewed later with the aid of a translator. She revealed that the pair had been living together for two months and had been having sex on a near-daily basis. Police are also reportedly investigating the man’s immigration status. He was then arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child. He was also charged with drug possession after a bag of marijuana was found in his car.

It is unclear where the two were married. Texas law permits people to marry without parental consent at 18. However, people aged 14 and older may get married with the consent of their parents or legal guardians.

US to shell out $6.6mn for White Helmets ‘vital operations’ weeks after promising funding freeze https://briefnews.eu/us-to-shell-out-6-6mn-for-white-helmets-vital-operations-weeks-after-promising-funding-freeze/ https://briefnews.eu/us-to-shell-out-6-6mn-for-white-helmets-vital-operations-weeks-after-promising-funding-freeze/#respond Thu, 14 Jun 2018 18:48:59 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/us-to-shell-out-6-6mn-for-white-helmets-vital-operations-weeks-after-promising-funding-freeze/ The United States will resume funding for the controversial, militant-linked White Helmets, a month after the group had its financial support frozen. The State Department also lauded the group for saving “100,000 lives” in Syria.

President Donald Trump has authorized the US State Department, in conjunction with the United States Agency for International Development, to release $ 6.6 million for the “vital, life-saving operations” of the so-called Syrian Civil Defense group, known colloquially as the White Helmets, and for the UN’s International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM), a UN agency that is investigating war crimes committed during the conflict.

A statement released by State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert claimed that the White Helmets had saved more than 100,000 lives since the conflict in Syria began. The generous praise may even surprise the White Helmets – by their own estimates, they’ve only rescued some 70,000 people.

“Despicable. More money to the propagandists of the White Helmets, who so many Aleppo and Ghouta civilians say worked with or were terrorists of al-Qaeda, Jaysh al-Islam,” Eva Bartlett, an independent journalist who has made multiple trips to Syria, tweeted in response to the news.

The controversial group – which operates exclusively in militant-held areas of Syria, and whose members have been photographed and filmed fraternizing with jihadists – reportedly had its US government funding cut off in March. A CBS report claimed last month that $ 200 million used to fund the group, as well as other programs in Syria, were “under active review” and that the White Helmets hadn’t received US payments in weeks.

In contrast to their American allies, the British government vowed in May to keep money flowing to the White Helmets. UK Prime Minister Theresa May pledged last month to review the current financial package for the group, hinting at further funding down the track.

“We do support them, we will continue to support them, and… [we] will be looking at the level of that support in the future,” May said, during Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons.

A Freedom of Information Act request revealed that, as of March 2018, the UK government has funded the White Helmets to the tune of £38,425,591.23 (approximately $ 51,148,535).

The group has enjoyed celebrity status in the West, with a documentary praising it even winning an Oscar award. But the western-funded organization has run into hard times lately, both with funding and bad publicity. Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters recently lambasted the White Helmets at a concert in Barcelona, calling the group a “fake organization that exists only to create propaganda for jihadists and terrorists.” His remark came after emails emerged showing that the White Helmets tried to lobby Waters with Saudi money.

Meghan Markle will get a fancy new title when she marries Prince Harry — but it’s so weird that she’ll never use it https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-will-get-a-fancy-new-title-when-she-marries-prince-harry-but-its-so-weird-that-shell-never-use-it/ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-will-get-a-fancy-new-title-when-she-marries-prince-harry-but-its-so-weird-that-shell-never-use-it/#respond Sun, 13 May 2018 08:39:02 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-will-get-a-fancy-new-title-when-she-marries-prince-harry-but-its-so-weird-that-shell-never-use-it/ meghan markle wedding dress 3Niall Carson /Getty

  • The Royal Wedding will grant Meghan Markle a host of titles — including “Princess Henry of Wales.”
  • She can be called that because she takes the official first name of her husband — and Harry’s real name is Henry.
  • However, recent royal bridges have ignored the title, and recent tradition dictates that the odd-sounding style will never be used.
  • Princess Michael of Kent, who married in 1978, is the only living royal to be known by her husband’s name.

When Meghan Markle ties the knot with Prince Harry on May 19, she will officially become part of the royal family. That brings with it a new career, instant celebrity, a colourful cast of relatives — and several royal titles.

It is highly likely that Markle will become a duchess, like Kate Middleton did. But there’s another title she will gain from the marriage that she will almost certainly never use for anything.

  • Michael Avenatti, the Stormy Daniels attorney who published a damaging report this week showing Michael Cohen ran a shell company that took in millions of dollars from corporate entities after President Donald Trump’s election, dropped a cryptic hint about where some of that money may have gone.
  • Avenatti, responding to attacks from Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, on Friday, tweeted that Cohen’s shell company, Essential Consultants, LLC, paid “large sums of money” to a California-based entity called “Demeter Direct, Inc.” State public records show it’s linked to someone named Mark S. Ko.
  • The public records list Demeter Direct, Inc. as a Korean food retailer, but an archive of the company’s website describes it as a business strategy consulting and investment firm.
  • An address listed for the company is located inside a high-rise apartment building near downtown Los Angeles.
  • Another company name, PK2 Entertainment, is also linked to the Los Angeles address, and to Mark S. Ko.

Michael Avenatti, the Stormy Daniels attorney who published a damaging report this week showing President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, ran a shell company that took in millions of dollars from corporations after Trump’s election, hinted on Friday that Cohen paid out “large sums of money” from that shell company, too.

“In 2017-18 – Why was Mr. Cohen paying Demeter Direct Inc. in Los Angeles large sums of money from his Essential Consultants LLC account? Keep attacking me Mr. Giuliani and Fox News. Please.,” Avenatti tweeted in response to attacks from Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s newest lawyer.
