The Chasers have become iconic members of The Chase cast, showing off their quizzing prowess to defeat thousands of contestants over the years. For over a decade, Bradley Walsh, 60, has been on hand to help the players and act as host of the ITV quiz show. Unfortunately, as the network plans to launch a new spin-off of the popular series, the presenter will be absent from proceedings as the quizmasters take charge.

ITV has announced The Chase Extra will air on its streaming service exclusively and each episode will be a lot shorter than those broadcasting as part of the main show.

It will begin on Monday, March 8 at 6pm on the ITVHub and the six Chasers will each feature in their own instalment over subsequent weeks to ask those watching at home a series of 10 questions.

This includes Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, 55, Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty, 62, and Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, 50.

Joining them are Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, 38, Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace, 60, and newcomer Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis, 40.

In amongst all the quizzing, the brainiacs of Britain will offer viewers an insight into their world, revealing tips and telling jokes.

This means Bradley won’t be needed as the Chasers take centre stage to host their very own episodes.

The new and third spin-off of the original series has been commissioned as the show brought in a record audience last year.

On November 28, 2020, the programme saw its largest ever viewership with 5.1 million fans tuning into the episode.

Beat The Chasers, the second show to come from the original, also gained huge acclaim when five of the Chasers came together for the first time to take on contestants.

However, Darragh has not featured in the first two seasons so The Chase Extra will be the first spin-off he features in.

Commenting on the quizmasters working together for Beat The Chasers, Bradley explained their logic to try and defeat a contestant doesn’t always go to plan.

The presenter said: “I think sometimes they found it difficult to play as a team and that was what was interesting to me.

“To play as a team and not cut across each other, to jump in, get a question wrong.

“They’re not team players. They don’t normally play as a team. For them to try this out was an experiment to see how they got on,” he added.

Bradley continued: “There were times when they got into their stride, then you realised, ‘Hang on a minute, they could come unstuck here…’ I just thought it was wonderful.”

However, for the next spin-off, the Chasers will once again be playing independently, rather than as a united force.

Last year, The Chase celebrated its 10th anniversary with the introduction of Beat The Chasers and a new quizmaster in Darragh.

Viewers also saw Anne, Mark and Shaun embark on their own international adventure in a Road Trip series to mark the milestone.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.

“There’s a lot that’s threatening Bravo Team as we know it, and when they get through these first two episodes, the audience will be surprised at what Bravo looks like.”

Those words from SEAL Team executive producer Spencer Hudnut proved quite true during Wednesday night’s XL season opener, as Bravo Team and its extended HAVOC family faced no fewer than four big changes.

New homeowner RAY (played by Neil Brown Jr.), for one, is heading off to Warrant Officer training, having made the cut for the coveted, pay-raising promotion (and in the clear since Clay took the fall for the Marsden letter). MANDY (Jessica Paré), coming out of the latest deployment (during which she tragically lost another asset), revealed to Jason that she has decided she has in fact served her share of time; no longer can she just keep “moving forward.” CERBERUS (Dita) was stranded with Jason amid enemy combatants for a harrowing stretch, and though he eventually emerged “cleared for duty,” the feeling is that the brave canine has more than earned the simple life of a civilian doggo.

And then there is JASON (David Boreanaz) himself, who at the close of the premiere announced to the extended team that he was stepping down as an operator.

Mandy’s decision didn’t come as a complete surprise, given a recent report that Paré, an original cast member, was not returning as a series regular for Season 4 (which because of COVID interruptus technically gets underway next week). Still, many fans were preemptively upset about losing the savvy CIA vet — in part because of her undeniable and growing connection with Bravo 1.

SEAL Team Mandy Leaves“Look, we are all sad to see Mandy go,” executive producer Spencer Hudnut tells TVLine. And while the EP acknowledges that, because of how Season 3 got cut short, “It did feel like we were setting something up” between Mandy and Jason, “One of the things about this show though is that we really do strive to honor the experiences of our service members. And by dramatizing the combat, the trauma, all the emotional stress, there need to be consequences.

“Losing a CI in Venezuela, and then losing another one in Afghanistan… it has taken a toll on Mandy,” Hudnut explains. “The choice she made was a brave one, realizing much like Jason that this job has cost her so much, and she has the opportunity to break away and find a life for herself. As you can see in the moment, it’s a really difficult choice for Mandy, and one that maybe a day later she might not have made. But in that moment, she found the strength to walk away.”

Though she has walked away, that doesn’t mean viewers have seen the last of the character. “There are plenty of ways to close the door on a character, and the door is still open for her,” Hudnut says. “Mandy will be seen again in Season 4.” In fact, Pare — whom Hudnut hails as “one of my favorite people I’ve ever worked with” — will direct an episode later this season.

“I get people’s disappointment, and she and Jason have such a clear connection,” the EP notes. “But that connection influences what Jason decides later in the episode.”

SEAL TEAM JASON QUITS

Ah yes, Jason’s decision. It was no small one, either! “War has been my refuge for too long, and I’m done,” he shared with everyone in the back corner of the bar. “It’s time for Bravo 1 to take a step back from operating, and find a life for Jason Hayes.”

The next episode of Season 4 (airing Dec. 9) won’t lead right out of this significant series of decisions, departures and diversions but instead “pick up a bit down the road, where everyone is settled into their new lives,” says Hudnut.

But what will SEAL Team as a show look like, if Jason isn’t leading the good fight? “At the beginning of Season 3, he re-enlisted for a couple more years, so you can’t just walk away,” Hudnut reminds. “He is still a part of the Navy, so he needs to find a new way to ‘burn off’ his enlistment. And the struggle for him will be: Does that bring him any sense of satisfaction the way operating does?”

Said another way: “This is a character who really has evolved to realize he needs to put himself first. It’s a more balanced Jason Hayes than we have seen in the past. But can he maintain that balance without Bravo Team? He’s really going to be ‘all in’ trying to have a life, but circumstances might not allow that to happen.”

Sunday Brunch was back with presenters Tim Lovejoy, 52, and Simon Rimmer, 57, on hand to host the Channel 4 show. However, to mark the 25th birthday of soap opera Hollyoaks next week, the programme’s theme tune was replaced by the soundtrack which plays to the credits of the weeknight serial drama. Taking to social media, it seems viewers weren’t too happy with the shake-up imposed at the beginning of the latest episode.

Even Tim was unsure of what happened as once the title sequence had played, he said: “I’m confused – is this Hollyoaks or Sunday Brunch?”

The presenter then explained viewers would have heard the soap’s theme tune and they were joined by actors Nick Pickard, 45, and Jennifer Metcalfe, 37, to mark the anniversary celebrations.

Simon joked: “I bet [those watching at home] thought they’d pressed the wrong button,” and it seems they did.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “Omg I almost switched off when I heard #hollyoaks theme tune #SundayBrunch #confused.”

“Haven’t watched #Hollyoaks since I was at Uni but somehow still recognised the theme tune when it played over #SundayBrunch just now?” another confused viewer remarked.

“I’m more of a Brookside fan #SundayBrunch,” a third commented, to which a fourth posted: “‘What’s your favourite Hollyoaks moment?’ – The end credits! #SundayBrunch.”

Taking to their official Twitter account, Sunday Brunch bosses shared their excitement at having the stars of the soap on the show.

Captioning an image of the pair, sat socially distanced at the table, the post read: “It’s great to be celebrating 25 years of @Hollyoaks with @missjenjomet and Nick Pickard #SundayBrunch.”

However, there has been a number of changes to the show since the pandemic hit the UK back in March with guests speaking via video.

Tim has previously spoken out about working alongside Simon, explaining they have a lot of fun together both on and off-screen.

“We’re like Morecambe and Wise, we go to bed together in our pyjamas and get up the next morning,” the presenter joked.

“We spend every Sunday together, we see each other sometimes on a Saturday night, generally we speak to each other most days on the phone.

“We’re genuine friends which makes it so much fun,” the Sunday Bruch host said of his working relationship with his co-star in an interview with Digital Spy.

Simon has also spoken about his admiration for Tim, explaining: “We’ve worked together for ten years and we’ve never fallen out.

“We might have a little sulk with each other every now and then but he is genuinely one of my best friends in the whole world.”

The presenter also told Huffington Post he takes his job “very seriously” and has never done anything to put it at risk.

“I’ve done it without sleep, but never hungover and never drunk in ten years. Never ever ever. I love my job too much.”

Sunday Brunch airs at 9:30am on Channel 4.

A BBC insider said: “The show has been on for a long time and the producers think it’s time to give it a new look.

“Sue, Matt and Tuffers have been so popular, so the producers are aware they will have big shoes to fill.

“With the 50th anniversary this year they thought it would be a good time to revamp things,” the source told Daily Star.

Former professional tennis player Sue took over as presenter from commentator David Coleman in 1997 who had replaced David Vine in 1979.
