“It was adopted unanimously,” Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman said. Kiev explained the move by saying it was putting the “national interests of the country” first.

Earlier, Groisman told the local Channel 112 that Ukraine “will do everything to ensure that the aggressor country (meaning Russia) pays a high price for aggression in Ukraine.”

Russia and Ukraine signed a program of economic cooperation in 2011. The document, which was planned for implementation by 2020, provides for enlarging free trade and mutual protection of investments, creating a system of payment and settlement operations, and ensuring free movement of citizens.

Despite calling Russia an aggressor and signing a free-trade agreement with Europe, Moscow remains Ukraine’s largest trading partner. According to data quoted by RIA Novosti, the volume of trade between the two countries grew significantly last year. Ukraine sold 140 percent more goods to Russia, and imported 110 percent more compared to the year before.

Russia has a 9.4 percent share of Ukrainian trade, second only to the European Union as a whole. After relations between the countries deteriorated, Ukraine gradually lost half of its Gross Domestic Product, which shrank from $ 183 billion in 2013 to $ 93 billion in 2016. The Ukrainian hryvnia has depreciated more than three times against the dollar and more than two times against the Russian ruble over the period.

Gazillion Entertainment shut down on Wednesday just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, according to Kotaku. The move to lay off all staff came after Disney severed ties with the company and announced that Gazillion’s Marvel Heroes game would shut down.

The game was originally due to shut on December 31, but the company also got hit with a lot of requests for refunds, Kotaku said. Gazillion didn’t make an announcement, but numerous employees relayed what they were told.

The employees said they are not being paid severance or paid time off, and that their medical insurance ends next week. In a statement, Disney had said earlier, “We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.”

It’s a sad Thanksgiving for those associated with the company, which has had a rich history. The San Mateo, Calif.-based Gazillion had legendary ambitions as a maker of massively multiplayer online role-playing games.

 

Rob Hutter, the former head of Revolution Ventures, founded Gazillion with Doom co-creator John Romero in 2005 in an effort to create MMO games that could rival Blizzard’s World of Warcraft. Over time, Hutter raised more than $ 250 million for Gazillion, and he got the deal for a Marvel MMO in 2009. Previously, Cryptic Studios had a license to make a Marvel MMO, but that game was cancelled in 2007. MMOs proved to be hard to make and World of Warcraft was the toughest of rivals.

Romero’s own game was canceled and his Slipgate Ironworks division was shut down. About a year after that, Romero left. The industry also shifted from premium subscription games to free-to-play online games with microtransactions. That prompted big changes at Gazillion, which at its peak had more than 350 employees.

David Brevik, co-creator of Diablo and one of the former Blizzard North leaders, spent 6.5 years at the company. In early 2011, Brevik was named president and chief operating officer of Gazillion. Shortly after that, John Needham, former head of Cryptic Studios, replaced Hutter as CEO in 2011. One of the games that Gazillion shipped was Marvel Super Hero Squad, built by the now-defunct The Amazing Society studio in Seattle. That studio was run by Jason Robar and Jay Minn, and they focused on creating a family-friendly Marvel game for kids. Their game helped keep Gazillion afloat.

Brevik’s game was a version for adults, and it was renamed Marvel Heroes. It launched in 2013. Around that time, David Dohrmann, a board member who was then at Roth Capital Partners, and investors at Oak Investment Partners recapitalized the company, meaning they took control and put more money into the firm. Brevik became CEO.

Marvel Heroes was buggy at launch, and the developers had to fix it. They relaunched it in 2014, and its average Metacritic rating rose from 58 out of 100 to 81 after a number of key adjustments to content and the pricing model. The company did a further update and renamed Marvel Heroes as Marvel Heroes 2015. The game was a moderate success in its new form, but Gazillion laid off some staff in September 2015. Brevik resigned as CEO in January 2016, and Dohrmann took over.

Dohrmann, who later changed his name to David Von Dorman, attempted to reboot the company and launched the PlayStation 4 version of the Marvel Heroes — dubbed Marvel Heroes Omega — earlier this year. Von Dorman said early results were good, but apparently the players didn’t stick around.

In an email, Von Dorman said, “It’s obviously been a really difficult period – a turn of events that is very hard to fathom. You know we were very committed to building Gazillion and we were on that trajectory – but yes, sadly due to a series of events that happened at an incredible pace (the last 30 days) the company is preparing to wind down. I can tell you that above anything else, the management team tried as best we could to make sure our employees would be treated with respect and given severance packages. It is heart breaking that things ended up this way, but as mentioned our intent has always been to take care of our people. If we could have done this differently we would have.”

I interviewed each of Gazillion’s leaders over the years, and it was sad to see the company’s decline. Sorry to deliver a downer on Thanksgiving, but this is one of those cases where I cover a company from cradle to grave.

Onetime Louis C.K. champion FX will no longer have anything to do with the comedian in light of his admission of sexual misconduct.

The cable network has severed ties with C.K., effectively canceling his comedy series Louie. Moving forward, he also will not be involved in the FX comedies he co-created: Pamela Adlon’s Better Things and Zach Galifianakis’ Baskets, as well as FX Productions’ One Mississippi and The Cops.

The network’s statement reads:

Today, FX Networks and FX Productions are ending our association with Louis C.K. We are cancelling the overall deal between FX Productions and his production company, Pig Newton. He will no longer serve as executive producer or receive compensation on any of the four shows we were producing with him — Better Things, Baskets, One Mississippi and The Cops.  

Louis has now confirmed the truth of the reports relating to the five women victimized by his misconduct, which we were unaware of previously. As far as we know, his behavior over the past eight years on all five series he has produced for FX Networks and/or FX Productions has been professional. However, now is not the time for him to make television shows. Now is the time for him to honestly address the women who have come forth to speak about their painful experiences, a process which he began today with his public statement.

FX Networks and FX Productions remain committed to doing everything we can to ensure that all people work in an environment that is safe, respectful and fair, and we will continue our review of all of these productions to ensure that was and is the case.

The network’s move comes after The New York Times released a story Thursday in which five women alleged that C.K. masturbated and engaged in other inappropriate sexual behavior in their presence. On Friday, C.K. released a statement that read, in part, “These stories are true” and “There is nothing about this that I forgive myself for.”

Louie aired its Season 5 finale in 2015. In early 2016, FX CEO John Landgraf told reporters that C.K. “certainly hasn’t promised me further seasons” and warned that the show might never return, though he added that he and the comedian “talk every week” about doing more episodes. Soon after, C.K. himself said that he didn’t know if there would be any more Louie in the future.

“It’s such an autobiographical thing that I can do a version of Louie when he’s 60, if anyone still gives a s—t,” he told reporters at the time. “By the time I want to do it, I could call [FX] up and say, ‘I’m ready,’ and they could say, ‘Who is this?’”

On Thursday, HBO announced that C.K. would not take part in its Night of Too Many Stars comedy benefit. At the same time, FX released a statement saying the network was “obviously very troubled” by the claims and was reviewing the matter.

TBS, which ordered C.K.’s animated series The Cops to series in January, also has been suspended, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Ron Dennis has formally severed his ties with McLaren. He is selling his stakes in both McLaren Technology Group and the carmaking McLaren Automotive division, thereby ending a 37-year association with what remains—despite a miserable season so far—the second most successful Formula 1 team of all time after Ferrari.

Much of that success should be credited to Dennis himself; his forceful personality and entrepreneurial spirit saw him recruit some of the greatest driving and engineering talents for the company’s various projects. The McLaren team was struggling when Dennis merged it with his Project Four team; the link was referenced by the fact that every McLaren racer used a model code starting with MP4 until 2016, as did the MP4-12C road car. He quickly turned around its fortunes, leading it to a period of utter domination of Formula 1 under star drivers including the great Ayrton Senna. In 1988, the team won 15 out of 16 races, and the mercurial Brazilian took his first title.

Dennis was also one of the primary movers behind the creation of the original McLaren F1, which was designed by Gordon Murray and was the first road car to use a carbon-fiber structure. He was also responsible for the establishment of McLaren Automotive, and that division nearly doubled its sales last year.

But as C/D told you last November, a boardroom bustup over McLaren’s ownership saw Dennis forced from his role as CEO, and now it seems the divorce is final. Dennis is selling his 25 percent stake in McLaren Technology and his 11 percent stake in McLaren Automotive, and although the company isn’t saying exactly to whom, it confirms that the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company and TAG Group will become the unified Group’s majority shareholders. Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa will become McLaren Group’s new executive chairman, but management beneath him well be unchanged, meaning Mike Flewitt remains head of McLaren Automotive.

Dennis is being adequately compensated for his loss: Although McLaren hasn’t told us the exact amount, reports elsewhere are suggesting he will receive around $ 355 million for his stake. Both sides insist the deal is amicable, with Dennis quoted as saying “I have always said that my 37 years at Woking should be considered as a chapter in the McLaren book, and I wish every success as it takes the story forward.”

When we interviewed Dennis in 2010, he told us that the inscription he would like on his gravestone would be: “Ron Dennis, 1947 to so-and-so, one of the world’s great entrepreneurs.”

A British man has called for skunk, a potent form of cannabis, to be reclassified as a Class A drug after his son attacked his mother and severed his own penis before being detained under the mental act for his own safety.

The father, identified only as Nick, described his son’s psychotic break during an interview with BBC Radio 5 live. He believes skunk is the direct cause of the episode.

Nick said he supports the “war on skunk” initiated by British aristocrat Lord Monson earlier this year following the death of his 21 year old son, who took his own life in what his father believes is another skunk-induced mental break.

Nick said his son became “completely addicted” to the drug after boredom drove him to start trying it with his friends. He said his son then became “delusional and he used to sleep with a tennis racket in his bed because he thought people were living in the walls.”

“He became paranoid. He switched from a very bright, bubbly lad to – I can only describe it as a waste of space,” he added.

Describing the incident in which he attacked his mother and mutilated himself as both “devastating” and “surreal,” the boy’s father said his son “basically had a psychotic episode and did huge amounts of harm to both himself and his mother.”

As a result, he was placed in a mental health institute for assessment for a “five, six month period.” The father now feels like he has his son back and says his son has now developed a sense of dark humor about the incident, though he still has a long road to recovery both physically and mentally.

Following the tragic death of his own son, Lord Monson said that decriminalizing certain forms of cannabis would enable users to know what they are smoking, ensuring they would not fall victim to cannabis-induced psychosis.

“That is no different from our approach to alcohol,” he said, adding that “No one needs to drink moonshine whisky which makes them blind, they can buy legal whiskey.”
