A deceptively simple conversation between two Sesame Street muppets has the Twittersphere in a frenzy. Has our beloved childhood friend Grover been corrupted? Sometimes it takes a meme to remind us there is no ’universal human experience.’ We may hear “Laurel” and be 100 percent secure in our interpretation of those sound waves, but someone else hears “Yanny” and they’ll swear on all that is holy that they’re correct. Surely both sides can’t be right? the new Yanni v. Laurel? — some people swear they hear Grover saying, "that's a f**king excellent idea." i'm one of those people and i can't stop laughing pic.twitter.com/b3OdPpvtYn — J.D. Durkin (@jiveDurkey) December 27, 2018 We all love to watch our beloved childhood entertainers fall from grace. What’s more fun than a sweet innocent child’s character with the mouth of a sailor? what’s the other option, because all i hear is him cursing. — 𝚋𝚊𝚍 𝚋𝚒𝚝𝚌𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚢. (@shesILL) December 28, 2018 Others disagree – Grover is pure as the driven snow, and it’s Twitter users who have the dirty minds. He says "yes, yes, that sounds like an excellent idea". I don't know where you people get this stuff from but pretty sure it's just to stir up mess. — Mrs. Nathan Huffhine (@WatchYerButt) December 28, 2018 You must be drunk” Yes yes that sounds like a excellent idea” — DerrickD.Rush Mr No¢ (@TheDerrickRUSH) December 28, 2018 Some people take the opportunity to try to understand another person’s point of view. Look, I hear it now that you explained it, and in fact, I can't hear it the other way any more. But before? I didn't even know what else it could be. — The Call of Cthraiglu (@CraigKBryant) December 28, 2018 Others try to explain the phenomenon with science they’ve invented specifically for the occasion… If you listen to it with your phone normally held in your hand at a distance, it 100% sounds like “fucking excellent idea”. However, if you put the speaker to your ear, you can clearly hear “sounds like an excellent idea”. Chances are you watched “Sesame Street” as a child. And if you are now a parent of a young child, chances are you’re still watching “Sesame Street” today. Since its premiere on November 10, 1969, the puppets and people of “Sesame Street” have been entertaining young children and teaching them valuable lessons about everything from friendship to the alphabet, making it the longest running children’s television show.
There have been a few changes, including the show’s move from PBS to HBO in 2015, but over the years, “Sesame Street” has managed to stay relevant to each new generation of viewers. But even if you think you’ve seen practically every episode, there are some things about the beloved kids’ show that may come as a surprise.
Believe it or not, there are some things you didn’t know about “Sesame Street.”

When Mr. Snuffleupagus made his first appearance in 1971, he only existed in Big Bird’s imagination. As large as he was, he would always disappear before Big Bird’s neighbors could see him. In season 17, producers decided to make Big Bird’s bestie visible to everyone. But when he made his television debut, Snuffy looked less like someone you’d want to have a sleepover with and more like something you might see in your nightmares.
The original version had creepy yellow eyes and a thinner body.

Since the show’s premiere, four First Ladies have made appearances on Sesame Street. Barbara Bush, Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama have all stopped by to hang out with the “Sesame Street” gang to teach young viewers about issues including healthy eating and the importance of literacy. Hillary Clinton even shared a smooch with Oscar.
PBS
Oscar the Grouch, the crankiest neighbor on “Sesame Street” is known for his grumpy demeanor as well as his green fur. But you may not have known that his fur was once a completely different color. In the show’s first season, the beloved grouch had orange fur. When he reappeared as green in season two, Oscar told everyone that the color change was the result of a vacay in a damp swamp.

Why, Sesame Street? Why? After longtime staffer Mark Saltzman told Queerty that he’d always written Bert and Ernie as gay, the venerable educational show for kids didn’t respond, “Of course they’re a couple — who else would quarrel like that?” or even, “Viewers can ascribe to the roomies whatever qualities they feel best fit them.”
Instead, it pointed out in a statement that the beloved characters “are identified as male… and possess many human traits,” then discounted them as puppets who, as such, “do not have a sexual orientation.” (Which must have come as quite a shock to Kermit the Frog.) Frank Oz, who voices Bert, went so far as to ask, “Does it really matter?”
Here’s the thing, Frank: Yes, it matters. Especially in 2018, it matters a whole helluva lot. Sesame Street, known for its inclusiveness, had a chance to say, “Yep, Bert and Ernie are gay. So what?” It had a chance to say that gay people, like people of different races, people who use wheelchairs, people with Down syndrome, people who are HIV-positive, are just people. We’re not freaks, we’re your bickering neighbors. Different, maybe, but wrong? Nah.
Here’s the other thing, Frank: Per The Trevor Project, “LGB youth seriously contemplate suicide at almost three times the rate of heterosexual youth.” What do you think it would do for those kids if the TV show that they — and, perhaps more importantly, their friends and classmates — grew up watching sent the message that being gay is like being left-handed or being blonde? What would it do for those kids, Frank, if that ceased to be a reason for them to feel “other,” if that ceased to be a reason that their peers could make them feel so other that they considered killing themselves?
That was the teaching opportunity that Saltzman’s interview, perhaps inadvertently, handed Sesame Street, and the show blew it. Badly. What do you think? Shouldn’t the chance to embrace diversity, as Sesame Street has done so many times in the past, have been seized?

When The Happytime Murders, a comedy about foul-mouthed and sex-crazed puppets who look an awful lot like the ones created by Jim Henson, used the tagline “All Sesame. No Street.” in its marketing campaign, the creators of Sesame Street weren’t thrilled. They planned to sue the film for unauthorized use of the Sesame Street brand, and now distributor STX Entertainment has filed a response – through a puppet lawyer named Fred, Esq.
Just a few days ago, the Sesame Workshop (who own and operate Sesame Street) filed a suit against the upcoming movie The Happytime Murders, an R-rated movie produced by The Jim Henson Company that recently debuted a trailer that ends with an ejaculating puppet. The Sesame Street rights holders argue that imagery like that (“explicit, profane, drug-using, misogynistic, violent, copulating, and even ejaculating puppets”) will cause irrevocable damage to their brand, which has spent nearly 50 years building up a public trust and establishing itself as a destination for family-friendly children’s programming.

But Happytime Murders distributor STX Entertainment doesn’t seem too scared of the lawsuit. They sent a cheeky response through The Huffington Post via a puppet lawyer named Fred Esq., and even included a picture of their newfound legal counsel.
“STX loved the idea of working closely with Brian Henson and the Jim Henson Company to tell the untold story of the active lives of Henson puppets when they’re not performing in front of children. ‘Happytime Murders’ is the happy result of that collaboration and we’re incredibly pleased with the early reaction to the film and how well the trailer has been received by its intended audience. While we’re disappointed that Sesame Street does not share in the fun, we are confident in our legal position. We look forward to introducing adult moviegoers to our adorably unapologetic characters this summer.” – Fred, Esq., lawyer for STX Entertainment
At first I found it strange that Brian Henson – director of this film, son of Jim Henson, and chairman of the Jim Henson Company – was under fire from inside his own organization. But that’s where I was wrong: Sesame Street actually doesn’t have that much to do with The Jim Henson Company. Henson created the Muppets that appear on Sesame Street, but the rights to the series are controlled by Sesame Workshop, which is a separate company and a non-profit organization that produces the show.
It seems like it’d be easy enough to come up with a different tagline that doesn’t reference Sesame Street, but this response makes it seem like STX is not going to back down here. We’ll keep our eyes on this and see if it escalates further and a puppet judge has to get involved.
The Happytime Murders is slated to hit theaters on August 17, 2018.

Sesame Workshop, the parent company behind the long-running show Sesame Street, argued in the complaint filed in New York on Thursday that the STX Productions’ upcoming comedy starring Melissa McCarthy has “diluted and defiled” the pre-school children’s program by exploiting its mark and brand in the movie trailer.
The red band trailer released earlier in May features an explicit scene of two puppets having sex that involves (what appears to be) ejaculation, McCarthy’s character snorting ecstasy surrounded by gangster-like puppets, and a whole lot of bad-mouthing.
The trailer, which is by no means kids-friendly, makes a reference to the renowned children’s show with the tagline: “No Sesame. Only Street.”
Sesame Workshop argued that STX deliberately dropped its name in the trailer “intent on seeding confusion in the mind of the public” since both the original Sesame Street’s Muppets and “The Happytime Murders” are distinctly different works made by the same company, The Jim Henson Company. The son of late Jim Henson, Brian, is the director of the new movie.
While the situation seems to be no laughing matter to Sesame Workshop, which lamented that “the threat of irreparable injury” posed to Sesame’s brand “cannot be overstated,” the STX has only sniffed at the allegations so far, issuing a response under the name of one of the comedy’s puppet characters, Fred.

“We’re incredibly pleased with the early reaction to the film and how well the trailer has been received by its intended audience. While we’re disappointed that Sesame Street does not share in the fun, we are confident in our legal position,” the statement reads, adding that the STX “loved the idea” of joining forces with Brian Henson and the Jim Henson Company “to tell the untold story of the active lives of Henson puppets” away from children’s eyes.
The movie is set to premiere in the US on August 17. However, it may not go that smoothly, as the NYC judge has set the case hearing for May 30.

This week, two separate security alerts have revealed major holes in devices from Moxa, an industrial automation networking company. In one case, attackers could potentially send commands to a device’s operating system by using them as a username in a login attempt. In another, the private key for a Web server used to manage network devices could be retrieved through an HTTP GET request.
The first vulnerability, in Moxa’s AWK-3131A 802.11n industrial wireless networking gear—which can act as an access point, bridge, or client device—was revealed by Cisco Talos on April 3. Because of the way user authentication for multiple features works—leveraging the “loginutils” tool of the Busybox operating system—the usernames from failed login attempts are processed in such a way that they could be leveraged to inject command-line instructions by using punctuation to separate the command from the rest of the command-line output.
“Exploitation of this vulnerability has been confirmed via Telnet, SSH, and the local console port,” Patrick DeSantis and Dave McDaniel of Cisco Talos wrote in their report. “It is suspected that the web application may also be vulnerable as it relies on loginutils and examination of the iw_event_user binary reveals ‘fail’ messages for ‘WEB,’ ‘TELNET,’ and ‘SSH.'”

The Morning Watch is a recurring feature that highlights a handful of noteworthy videos from around the web. They could be video essays, fanmade productions, featurettes, short films, hilarious sketches, or just anything that has to do with our favorite movies and TV shows.
In this edition, watch Sesame Street‘s wonderful parody of Stranger Things 2. Plus, watch the first 17 minutes of the fifth season premiere of Agents of SHIELD, and check out an interview with Star Wars: The Last Jedi leading lady Daisy Ridley as she builds a LEGO Millennium Falcon.
First up, Sesame Street delivers an outstanding parody of Stranger Things 2 that is appropriately called Sharing Things. Cookie Monster stands in as a snack version of the demogorgon, and he’s on the hunt for treats after he’s eaten everything in the Snack-side Down (where there’s a great reference to fan favorite character Barb). There are so many clever references to the second season of the Netflix series that you just need to watch it right away.
Next up, the fifth season premiere of Agents of SHIELD may not debut until Friday, December 1 at 8pm ET/7pm CT on ABC, but you can watch the first 17 minutes of the two-hour premiere episode right here. Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his pals find themselves in space, face-to-face with some aliens. This should make for an interesting change of pace on the Marvel Studios TV series.
Finally, if you weren’t already in love with Daisy Ridley, then this interview with UK edition of Elle magazine might do the trick. The Star Wars saga star candidly answers questions as she tries to put together the LEGO Millennium Falcon. She doesn’t make much progress (because talking and building a LEGO set is kind of counter productive), but she does continue to be an absolute treasure of a human being.

A stash of cocaine was found by Florida police stuffed inside a doll which usually has a penchant for cookies.
Authorities found 11 ounces (314 grams) of the narcotic stuffed inside a doll of the popular Sesame Street character Cookie Monster, police said in a statement Wednesday.
The drugs were found in Key West, Florida, after an officer became suspicious of a black Dodge with tinted windows and a blurred-out license plate, and pulled the car over just after midnight.
The 39-year-old driver was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine after wily cops, already suspicious, noticed the familiar smell of marijuana smoke emanating from the car once the driver had cracked the window.
A search of the black Dodge turned up the doll, which cops thought felt a little heavy. Upon further inspection, an officer noticed a slit in the doll and when they peered inside found two packages containing the Columbian marching powder.
The driver was jailed with his bail set at $ 7,000.
