Disney Plus is a streaming service with a huge library of on-demand shows and movies from Disney's many brands. Since November 2019, the service has amassed more than 130 million subscribers.

Disney Plus includes a mix of content from Disney's vault and new programs developed exclusively for members. Subscribers can watch the studio's animated films, new Pixar movies, and titles from "Star Wars" and Marvel. Big-screen releases like "Thor: Love and Thunder" also stream on the service after they play in theaters.

Subscriptions start at $ 8 a month for ad-free streaming. Disney Plus can also be bundled with Hulu and ESPN+ for a starting price of $ 14 a month. In December, Disney will launch an ad-supported plan for $ 8 a month and increase the price of its ad-free plan to $ 11 a month.

What is Disney Plus? 

Disney Plus is an on-demand streaming service created by The Walt Disney Company.

With Disney Plus, subscribers can watch thousands of Disney movies and series on their devices (smart TVs, phones, laptops, tablets, and gaming consoles). The service includes unlimited downloads so you can watch anywhere, anytime. 

Disney Plus content comes from Walt Disney Studios' and Walt Disney Television's biggest names: Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and 20th Century Studios (formerly 20th Century Fox). 

How much does Disney Plus cost? 

Disney Plus currently costs $ 8 a month or $ 80 per year for ad-free streaming, but a price increase is coming in December. The ad-free price will increase to $ 11 a month or $ 110 a year starting December 8. At that time, Disney will introduce an ad-supported plan for $ 8 a month.

There's also an option to buy a bundled package with Hulu and ESPN+, which costs $ 14 a month for all three services. Subscribing to the bundle saves you about $ 11 a month.

The Disney bundle is also automatically included if you subscribe to any of Hulu's live TV plans. Hulu + Live TV offers access to over 75 channels. Hulu (with ads) + Live TV with Disney Plus and ESPN Plus costs $ 70 a month, but new members can save $ 20/month for their first three months.

How does Disney Plus compare to other streaming services?

While services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video feature a rotating mix of movies and TV shows from different studios, Disney Plus is focused entirely on Disney content.

Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Television offer an iconic library of family friendly movies, shows, and documentaries, but the Disney Plus collection won't change much on a month to month basis.

At $ 8 a month, it's affordable compared to major competitors, and the discounted bundle with Hulu and ESPN+ adds even more value.

Of all the major streaming services, it's also one of the most generous in the areas of multiple-device streaming, profile additions, downloads, and 4K playback. Some competitors, like HBO Max and Netflix, require subscribers to pay more to watch in 4K.

On the downside, Disney's focus on family friendly programming might limit the service's appeal to adults. That said, this approach could be changing. Disney Plus added three R-rated movies in July, and it's possible it could add more in the future to better compete with other major platforms.

  • Rep. Adam Kinzinger accused former Secret Service agent Tony Ornato of trying to discredit Cassidy Hutchinson.
  • The Republican told CNN this week that members of the Jan. 6 panel believe Ornato led the charge.
  • Ornato retired in August — two months after he emerged as a key figure in Hutchinson's testimony.

Members of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot believe former Secret Service agent Tony Ornato was personally involved in efforts to discredit former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony, according to a report from CNN.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, one of two Republican members of Congress on the committee, told the outlet this week that representatives on the panel think Ornato led the charge in contradicting parts of Hutchinson's public testimony earlier this year while he was still at the agency and additional, unnamed agents then backed his claims.

The longtime Secret Service agent who ran former President Donald Trump's security detail left the agency last month, saying in a statement that he retired in order to pursue a career in the private sector.

Ornato emerged as a key figure in Hutchinson's bombshell testimony before the committee in June.

Hutchinson testified that Ornato told her Trump had tried to grab the steering wheel of the vehicle he was traveling in and lunged at a Secret Service agent while demanding to be taken to the Capitol during the chaos of January 6, 2021, as he said, "I'm the effing president!"

In the aftermath of Hutchinson's testimony, anonymous sources began to reject her version of events in the press. Several media outlets reported that Secret Service agents were willing to testify that Trump did not try to lunge at them or take control of the vehicle on January 6 — though none have done so publicly.

Now, Kinzinger is accusing Ornato of being one of the anonymous culprits behind the backlash. 

"I just think it's so important to keep in mind that, through quote, anonymous sources, which we believe to be actually Tony Ornato himself, he pushed back against Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony and said, it's just not true and Tony will testify under oath. And then, of course, has not come in to testify under oath," the Republican told CNN.

Kate Driscoll, a lawyer for Ornato did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, but told CNN that her client plans to "continue cooperating in the investigations related to the events of January 6."

In response to pushback against Hutchinson's initial testimony, Rep. Liz Cheney, who is the top Republican on the January 6 panel, threw her full support behind Hutchinson and a DC police officer later backed up her claims, testifying that Trump had a "heated exchange" with his security team after they refused to drive him to the Capitol amid the insurrection. 

CNN reported this week that investigators have also learned new information about a series of deleted Secret Service test messages regarding the Capitol attack, citing anonymous sources who said it's unclear whether the texts are recoverable.

A spokesperson with the Secret Service pointed Insider to the agency's June 30th statement in response to Hutchinson's testimony:

"As we have done in the past, the United States Secret Service will make individuals with first-hand knowledge of the conversations and interactions referenced by the Committee available for sworn testimony. We are awaiting the opportunity to do so."

In a press release spotted by The Verge, Comcast said it would offer multi-gig internet packages in 34 cities across the country before the end of the year, with initial rollouts already underway in Augusta, Colorado Springs, Panama City Beach and Philadelphia.

Even if you don’t sign up for the new Gigabit 2x service, you’ll see an improvement in upload speeds. For instance, in Colorado Springs, Comcast says some tiers offer upload speeds up to 10 times faster than previously possible. The Gigabit 2x plan will initially limit customers to uploading files at 200Mbps. However, starting in 2023, multi-gig symmetrical speeds will be possible, thanks to a technology called DOCSIS 4.0.

Comcast has been transitioning to the standard for the past few years. Once that work is complete, it will have the network in place to offer 10Gbps download speeds and 6Gbps upload speeds on the same connection. In turn, that would allow it to provide symmetrical speeds across many of its cable packages. That’s an area where cable has historically lagged compared to fiber optic internet.

You will need a way to connect your electric, acoustic or bass guitar to your computer. Your first option is to download the Rocksmith Plus Connect app on an iOS or Android device. It will use your phone’s built-in microphone to detect your playing. Alternatively, you can use Ubisoft’s Rocksmith Real Tone Cable to connect your instrument. The advantage offered by the latter option is that you can add effects to your playing. Ubisoft notes it’s also possible to use a third-party audio interface, but not every single one will work and the company won’t offer you technical support in that case.

Notably, Ubisoft makes no mention of the previously announced PlayStation and Xbox versions of Rocksmith+. It does note, however, that the mobile release will arrive this fall.

BET is the latest network to join the standalone streaming service party: The cabler announced Monday that it will launch BET+, a subscription VOD service focused on the African-American audience, this fall.

Though a specific launch date and price point have not yet been announced, BET+ will feature more than 1,000 hours of ad-free content, including original programming and fan-favorite series, movies and specials.

BET’s series adaptation of The First Wives Club — originally developed at Paramount Network, then relocated to BET — will now debut on the streaming service in the fall. Based on the 1996 film, the 10-episode First Wives Club stars Jill Scott (Black Lightning), Ryan Michelle Bathe (This Is Us) and Michelle Buteau (Enlisted) as three New York City women who form a united front after all of their marriages fall apart.

He’s moving from a galaxy far, far away to a Brave New World: Alden Ehrenreich, who played a young Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story, will star in a new series adaptation of the classic Aldous Huxley sci-fi novel, according to our sister site Deadline.

The adaptation, which was originally developed by Syfy and scored a straight-to-series order from USA Network in February, is now expected to move to NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming service, which is slated to launch in 2020.

Brave New World, first published in 1932, is set in a futuristic utopian society “that has achieved peace and stability through the prohibition of monogamy, privacy, money, family, and history itself,” per the official synopsis. Ehrenreich will star as John the Savage, a subversive outsider who threatens to disrupt the stability of this perfect society.

Ehrenreich landed the role of a lifetime last year, taking over the iconic role of Han Solo from Harrison Ford in the big-screen spinoff Solo: A Star Wars Story. Prior to that, he had notable roles in the Coen brothers’ Hail, Caesar and Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine. As for TV, he has made appearances on Supernatural and CSI, but this will be his first role as a series regular.
