Dynasty paid homage to The Hangover on Friday, sending the show’s wildest party animals (and Cristal!) to Vegas for a bachelorette party that no one will be forgetting anytime soon.

TVLine spoke with showrunner Josh Reims about how the events of this episode will affect Dynasty‘s fourth season, but first, here’s a quick recap of what went down in the finale: After a night of debauchery, Fallon & Co. were forced to retrace their steps, leading them to discover that Sam — who was essentially roofied, thanks to an overpriced hipster mixologist — got married (!) to a stripper (!!) named “Scorpio” (!!!). Fortunately, Sam’s new hubby Ryan (played by Station 19‘s Lachlan Buchanan) turned out to be a real swell guy, putting his number into Sam’s phone… and not just as his emergency contact.

Back in Atlanta, Adam worked his twisted magic to further damage Blake’s uneasy relationship with the Moldavians; Alexis and Jeff consummated their marriage after she found herself experiencing (gasp!) feelings for her platonic husband; and Anders left town to go “hunting” for the truth about Adam’s sketchy past. Not only did he figure out that Adam pushed Alexis’ face into the fire, but he also knows that Adam is dating Kirby, so… let the games begin!

OK, time for some answers…

TVLINE | Let’s start with the snake in the hotel room. Real or fake?
[Laughs] Well, it’s interesting, because there were actually two snakes. One was real and one was fake. The one that went over Raphael [de La Fuente] was not real, but the one that went around the corner was real.

TVLINE | Now that we’ve established that, let’s talk about the season. Larger global issues aside, it must have been frustrating to have to hit pause when you were just getting to the climax.
It was a little frustrating. At the beginning of the year, I had this one image of how I wanted to end the season. Remarkably, we managed to keep building towards that. So when we had to stop at 20, I was like, “I can’t believe we’re not going to get to do this one scene. And I’m not going to say what that scene is, because hopefully we’ll be getting it at the beginning of next season. But we’d been building towards Fallon and Liam’s wedding from the beginning of the year, and it felt like that would have been a good end to the season, so that was a little frustrating.

TVLINE | So we would have seen a wedding?
Yes, we would have seen Fallon and Liam get married, which we may still see next season. Episode 20 recalibrated all of the relationships to take us into the last two episodes, and everything was going to sort of come to a head. Blake was going to finally go to war with Alexis, Jeff and Adam; Fallon and Liam were going to have their wedding; and we were setting Sam up to have a new relationship. So in that way, this sort of felt like a season finale, just not as big as a normal one would be. Obviously if we end up doing 21 and 22 as the first two episodes of next season, I’ll have to adjust a little, because I don’t want Episode 2 to feel like a finale. We’re hoping to use as much as we can of what our plan was, since both scripts were already written.

TVLINE | So we’ll be picking up right where we left off next season?
I think we have to. Because we’ve been building up to this wedding for so long, we’d be cheating the audience if [we didn’t give it to them]. So I’ve been toying with the idea of seeing if maybe we can do a few things before those two episodes at the beginning of next season, but either way, it feels like that’s where we’re headed.

TVLINE | And is it safe to say that Blake’s troubles with the Moldavians will continue? The minute that country was mentioned, fans had bells going off in their heads.
They’re definitely not over. I can’t say whether there will be a Moldavian massacre or not, but the Moldavians will definitely be returning. That episode was so ridiculous and fun to do, and I’d love to explore the royalty of Moldavia. We don’t want to do exactly what they did on the original, but whatever our version of the Moldavian Massacre is (which won’t be a massacre), we’re going to try and build up to that.

TVLINE | Back to the finale, I’d normally roll my eyes at someone drunk-marrying a stripper… but I happen to like that actor, so I’ll let it slide.
[Laughs] We went into the episode with Sam thinking, “I’m never going to have another relationship again.” So even though he got married under the influence, it showed that — deep down — he does want a relationship, whether he knows it or not. We were going to bring back Ryan (aka “Scorpio”) for Episodes 21 and 22, and we were going to explore the idea of Sam trying to have a relationship with this guy. It was going to be an interesting triangle if we were to bring back Fletcher, Sam’s married ex-boyfriend.

TVLINE | The actor who plays Ryan is also on Station 19. Is there any concern about him not being available when you’re allowed to film again?
Honestly, I don’t know. Hopefully, when we need him, it’ll still be fine.

TVLINE | I guess you could always recast him. Which reminds me… Is it too early to celebrate that we’re finally going to start a new season with the same Cristal?
[Laughs] No, I think it’s very exciting! I kind of wanted to do this thing — which I still might do — where we pretend at the beginning of the season that we’re getting another new Cristal. But I don’t want to scare Daniella [Alonso]. She’s so great in the role, and I’m so excited that she’s coming back.

TVLINE | Lastly, is Alexis… in love? I’m trying to decide if her speech to Jeff was genuine. It felt real!
It is genuine. She didn’t go into that marriage expecting to like Jeff. It was purely a business arrangement, but she does like — as she said — being Mrs. Colby. She did develop feelings for him, and when she walks in on Jeff with Mia, it does hit her harder than she expected.

  • The TruSkin Vitamin C Facial Serum ($ 19.99) is getting rave reviews on Amazon.
  • Customers have shared some impressive before-and-after photos.
  • People claim it has helped them clear up their acne, reduce redness, and even out their skin tone.
  • However, a few customers say they have experienced breakouts and rashes.
  • It’s always a good idea to start slow and test skin-care products on small areas first, even if the product has overwhelmingly rave reviews.

When most people think of buying beauty and skin-care products, cosmetics stores like Sephora and Ulta Beauty typically come to mind. However, Amazon is quickly becoming a go-to destination for under-the-radar and affordable beauty products.

The Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay previously went viral when Amazon customers shared some amazing before-and-after photos of its effect on acne, and now the TruSkin Naturals Vitamin C Facial Serum is giving similar results.

Waymo’s 360-degree demo ride shows what self-driving cars ‘see’ https://briefnews.eu/waymos-360-degree-demo-ride-shows-what-self-driving-cars-see/ https://briefnews.eu/waymos-360-degree-demo-ride-shows-what-self-driving-cars-see/#respond Wed, 28 Feb 2018 08:37:02 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/waymos-360-degree-demo-ride-shows-what-self-driving-cars-see/

One of the big steps necessary to roll out self-driving cars is getting the public to trust them, and Waymo’s latest attempt to achieve that is with a new 360-degree experience. Viewable on a computer, your phone or a VR headset, it feeds a simulation of mixed video and sensor data (LiDAR, radar and cameras) from one of the company’s Pacifica Hybrid minivans to give you a feeling of what it “sees” while driving along.

For many people, this is the first time they’ll be able to experience a ride in a self-driving car, and perhaps begin to trust that it’s at least as attentive as human drivers. The Alphabet (and formerly Google) company has big plans to launch a taxi service this year with thousands of these vans, and 360-degree video provides a preview of what it will be like.

After taking five years to accumulate one million miles driven, Waymo says its cars have racked up a million in the last three months (to with 2.7 billion virtual miles last year). That brings their total real-world mileage to five million across 25 test cities, adding as much mileage every day as the average person does in a year. Expect more “public education and awareness” advertising to follow, but for now, just take a peek around as Waymo does the driving.

‘See if it fits’: Brief panic as SUV enters pedestrian passage in St. Petersburg (VIDEO) https://briefnews.eu/see-if-it-fits-brief-panic-as-suv-enters-pedestrian-passage-in-st-petersburg-video/ https://briefnews.eu/see-if-it-fits-brief-panic-as-suv-enters-pedestrian-passage-in-st-petersburg-video/#respond Wed, 21 Feb 2018 19:35:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/see-if-it-fits-brief-panic-as-suv-enters-pedestrian-passage-in-st-petersburg-video/

Video footage has shown frightened pedestrians flee after an SUV casually entering an underground passage in St. Petersburg. However, the incident wasn’t terror-related: the driver claims he was only carrying out a bet.

A CCTV video circulating online shows commuters going about their day in the underground pedestrian passage near St. Petersburg’s Moskovskaya metro station on Wednesday morning. People are soon seen running for their lives when the black SUV begins traveling down the stairs into the passage.

Once the vehicle had made it down the stairs, it proceeded to take a leisurely drive through the underground passage. A video obtained by RT’s video agency Ruptly shows passersby looking on and filming the SUV as the smiling driver bizarrely shouts “Everyone disperse, only the strongest remain!” and attempts to maneuver the vehicle to exit the passage.

It also shows the driver dropping even less coherent phrases to puzzled police after he left the vehicle. Luckily, there were no injuries in the incident, a city representative told RIA Novosti.

The man’s initial questioning reportedly revealed he “wanted to check if the car fits into the crossing or not,” while he also claimed someone “dared” him to try and drive underground. It was not immediately clear if there really was any bet, while Russian media reports also suggest the man has been monitored at a psycho-neurological clinic.

While the driver appeared to be all-smiles about his stunt, the sight of a car driving into pedestrian crossing was certainly not amusing for passersby in the age of terrorist attacks which have seen vehicles used as deadly weapons. In late December, four people were killed when a bus crashed into an underground passage in Moscow. The bus driver claimed the vehicle took off from a halt on its own, while a surviving passenger said he believes there was a malicious intent.

Apple Orders New Sci-Fi Series ‘See’, From ‘I Am Legend’ Director Francis Lawrence https://briefnews.eu/apple-orders-new-sci-fi-series-see-from-i-am-legend-director-francis-lawrence/ https://briefnews.eu/apple-orders-new-sci-fi-series-see-from-i-am-legend-director-francis-lawrence/#respond Sat, 13 Jan 2018 07:14:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/apple-orders-new-sci-fi-series-see-from-i-am-legend-director-francis-lawrence/ Apple sci-fi

Apple is slowly but surely building up a nice little library of television shows. Now the company has added one more to its roster: a series called See, which is written by Eastern Promises and Taboo writer Steven Knight and will be directed by Francis Lawrence, the filmmaker behind I Am Legend and the Hunger Games sequels. Read more about the newest Apple sci-fi series below.

Deadline reports that Apple has given a straight-to-series order to See, which is being described as an “epic, world-building drama” that’s set in the future. Those are literally all of the concrete details we have about the show at this stage, but Deadline also mentions that while the number of episodes is officially yet to be determined, they’re apparently confident that See will end up with an eight-episode order for its first season.

This is actually the third sci-fi show that Apple has green lit since splashing down in Hollywood and attracting attention for getting into the original content game. The first is a reboot of Steven Spielberg’s anthology series Amazing Stories which is being spearheaded by Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller. The second was ordered back in December, a space drama from Battlestar Galactica‘s Ron Moore which imagines what would have happened if the global space race never ended.

Apple has also ordered an untitled drama set in the cutthroat world of morning television that stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. For now, those are all of the shows that the tech giant has officially ordered, but we do know they’re developing a drama series called Are You Sleeping from Confederate co-creator Nichelle Tramble Spellman. That one is set to star Octavia Spencer and depicts the human consequences that occur when a popular true crime podcast digs into an old murder.

We don’t know enough about See to know if it’s worth getting excited about on a story level, but the pairing of Knight and Lawrence for a sci-fi story is undoubtedly intriguing. Now we’ll just have to wait and see how Apple plans on distributing the damn thing, since the company has yet to reveal how they plan on actually getting any of these shows in front of audiences. The acquisition of this many shows this early in the game leads me to think that they may be leaning toward a subscription service of their own, but time will tell.

Insane NFL game ‘impossible to see’ https://briefnews.eu/insane-nfl-game-impossible-to-see/ https://briefnews.eu/insane-nfl-game-impossible-to-see/#respond Sun, 10 Dec 2017 22:57:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/insane-nfl-game-impossible-to-see/ THE Associated Press tallies each player who protests during the national anthem each week. This week’s entry from Buffalo: “Near white-out conditions from snow made it nearly impossible to see.”

The Bills-Colts game on Sunday (Monday AEDT) was at times literally unwatchable (but fun!) on TV, and at times literally unwatchable (and seemingly miserable!) from the stands. How the athletes managed on a field that could see up to a foot of snow and with swirling winds is a wonder.

(Notable first-half numbers in a game the Bills led 7-0: 11 total pass attempts for a total of 49 yards, one field-goal attempt, one field-goal miss.)

Buffalo ended up winning 13-7 in overtime after a LeSean McCoy touchdown run.

The running back is something of a snow master, given that he ran for 217 yards and two touchdowns in similar conditions for Philadelphia against Detroit in 2014.

Here was the view from the press box, courtesy of ABC News in Buffalo:

From the field level, it was immediately clear that walking, much less running, would be a problem.

The ticket-paying fans were wondering why they signed up for this — paid money for this.

“It’s hard to look at the game. Where is the end-zone lines? Where is any line?” said one fan in video appropriately posted by Numb Bills Fan.

“By our standards, this is f***ing insane,” another chimed in. “You know what I mean?”

‘Twin Peaks’ Season 3 Parts 17 & 18 Recap: “See You at the Curtain Call” https://briefnews.eu/twin-peaks-season-3-parts-17-18-recap-see-you-at-the-curtain-call/ https://briefnews.eu/twin-peaks-season-3-parts-17-18-recap-see-you-at-the-curtain-call/#respond Mon, 04 Sep 2017 21:16:11 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/twin-peaks-season-3-parts-17-18-recap-see-you-at-the-curtain-call/ The Verdugo Mountains in Los Angeles have been ablaze for days. It’s the largest wildfire in the city’s history. The smell of smoke and ash filled my apartment at the bottom of the hills on Sunday morning. Still half asleep, I wandered aimlessly from room to room trying to place the source, momentarily forgetting about the scorched mountains above me. Until last evening, I didn’t connect how strange the timing of these fires was with the final two episodes of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. It felt like a burning eulogy for the fictional Washington town and wonderful, strange universe Lynch has created — a place that never really existed, yet has been an intimate part of people’s lives since it first aired in 1990.

The ecosystems in the mountains rely on wildfires to control growth, but the chaparral in Southern California catches fire more frequently. Invasive, non-native plants grow in place of the blackened earth, increasing the size, intensity, and frequency of wildfires. It’s a positive feedback loop that destroys everything around it.

Lynch’s characters become trapped in a similar time struggle, one that changes the coordinates of our reality and refutes our demands for clarity and resolution. “What year is this?” Agent Cooper asks at the conclusion of episode 18. It’s not a question with an answer, but a dark revelation that our hero is lost in a world where his fate has already been decided. It’s a metafiction that poses a much more complex question than the one the series started with: “Who killed Laura Palmer?”

Recapping the final two episodes is a daunting task, but if you’re still clinging to any linear narrative sense of Twin Peaks, it went something like this. Episode 17 opens with Lynch’s Gordon Cole telling Albert about a secret he’s been keeping. He’s known about an evil entity called a “Jowday,” which has since been shortened to “Judy.” Andy escapes death by the gun-toting hand of the imprisoned Chad, thanks to a TKO by Great Northern security guard Freddie — you know, the guy with the impossibly strong, green fist. Evil Cooper heads for the Twin Peaks Sheriff Department, pulls a gun on Sheriff Truman, but is shot by Lucy instead. The real Agent Cooper arrives at the station, puts the carved green and gold ring on Evil Coop, and the woodsmen arrive to prepare the body for battle. The spirit of BOB leaves the body, looking like a grotesque cancerous mass, and is destroyed by Freddie — but nothing can be vanquished that easily in Twin Peaks. There’s a bigger story to tell.

The muttering Naido is transformed into Diane and reunites with Cooper with a kiss. Lynch is frequently criticized for his lack of diversity in casting and his misogynist gaze. The character of Naido is also problematic as a disfigured non-being who doesn’t speak, can’t see, and is merely a symbol for the real Diane, who has been styled in Chinoiserie. Any reference to the horrors of the Atomic Era get lost as we cringe watching one of Lynch’s only non-white characters vanish for a white woman to take her place.

Cooper goes to the Great Northern and is transported to the location of missing FBI Agent Phillip Jeffries, who is now living life as a smoking coffee pot of sorts in a motel room in Twin Peaks’ dark alternate reality. Their conversation sends Coop back in time to the night Laura Palmer is murdered. Coop tries to prevent Laura’s murder and bring her back to current-day reality — and we even see her plastic-wrapped corpse on the river banks vanish — but she disappears before the journey can be completed.

The final episode opens with a confusing repeat of events. MIKE creates another Dougie Jones, who is reunited with Janey-E and Sonny Jim. Cooper returns to the Red Room and speaks with MIKE and The Arm. “Is it future or is it past?” asks MIKE. It’s another question with no answer as we will come to learn. The Arm taunts him, but is really speaking to Twin Peaks’ audience: “Is it the story of the little girl who lived down the lane? Is it?” As the series tells us, the “owls” are not what they seem.

Cooper winds up leaving to reconnect with Diane at Glastonbury Grove. They drive to a point on the highway that will suck them into yet another alternate reality. The couple, in their vintage car and fashions, look more like the mid-century archetypes they were created to be than ever. Lynch has a love affair with the time period, but also uses it to admonish us, as he demonstrated with films like Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive. “Kiss me. Once we cross it could be all different,” Cooper tells Diane. And it is. On the other side they become Richard and Linda (and consummate their relationship). Coop wakes the next morning to find a Diane/Linda “Dear John” letter, and he heads out to a diner in Odessa, Texas where a Wild West-style shootout occurs as he tries to get the name of the waitress not currently on duty.

Newly armed with the mysterious woman’s address, Cooper discovers that Laura Palmer, or the woman who looks like her, is now known as Carrie Page in this other reality. Palmer/Page agrees to go with Cooper back to Twin Peaks to see Sarah Palmer, Laura’s mother — but when the duo arrive at the home, nothing exists as it once was. The Palmer residence is now owned by the Tremonds (the name of the character who also goes by Mrs. Chalfont and lived with her grandson at the Fat Trout Trailer Park and, later, in Twin Peaks). Completely overwhelmed with confusion, Cooper questions the year. Carrie hears who we assume is Sarah Palmer crying out “Laura!” Carrie screams, and the screen fades to black. We see credits rolling over Cooper and Laura in the Black Lodge while she whispers in his ear.

As predicted last week, the finale doesn’t tie up all of the series’ loose ends. There’s no telling if the fan theory about Audrey is true, or what her fate is. We don’t know if Becky survives the trauma of an abusive relationship and gets past Steven’s death. Jerry Horne has been found, but how will catching a glimpse of Evil Cooper at work affect his already fragile sanity? The elliptical nature of Lynch’s universe that crackles with electricity reserves its power for the unknown, which is sometimes magical and seductive, other times maddening and messy, and often stunning. That’s Twin Peaks.

Microsoft app helps blind people ‘see’ the world with AI https://briefnews.eu/microsoft-app-helps-blind-people-see-the-world-with-ai/ https://briefnews.eu/microsoft-app-helps-blind-people-see-the-world-with-ai/#respond Wed, 12 Jul 2017 15:59:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/microsoft-app-helps-blind-people-see-the-world-with-ai/

Microsoft has launched an iPhone app designed to help blind and partially-sighted people better navigate the world. The app, Seeing AI, uses ‘computer vision‘ to narrate the user’s surroundings, read text, describe scenes and even identify friends’ facial cues.

The project has been in the works since September 2016; in March this year, Microsoft demonstrated a prototype of the app for the first time. It uses neural networks, similar to the technology found in self-driving cars, to identify its environment and speak its observations out loud.

Point your phone camera at a friend and it’ll tell you who they are. Aim it toward a short piece of text such as a name badge or room number and it’ll speak it instantly — a marked step up from the optical character recognition (OCR) technology of yore. Plus, it guides the user into capturing the object in question correctly, telling them to move the camera left or right to get the target in shot.

The app also recognizes currency, identifies products via their barcodes and, through an experimental feature, can describe entire scenes, such as a man walking a dog or food cooking on a stove. Basic tasks can be carried out directly within the app, without the need for an internet connection. It’s currently available to download for free in the US on iOS, but there’s no indication when it’ll come to other platforms or countries.

In a blog post by Harry Shum, executive vice president of Microsoft’s AI and research group, the company explains that Seeing AI is “just the beginning” for this kind of AI application. Machine learning, perception and natural language processing have evolved over time into separate fields of research, it says, but “we believe AI will be even more helpful when we can create tools that combine those functions.”

A Marine explains how intermittent fasting helped him ‘see his abs’ https://briefnews.eu/a-marine-explains-how-intermittent-fasting-helped-him-see-his-abs/ https://briefnews.eu/a-marine-explains-how-intermittent-fasting-helped-him-see-his-abs/#respond Sat, 10 Jun 2017 13:18:33 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/a-marine-explains-how-intermittent-fasting-helped-him-see-his-abs/ US Marine and Fortune 500 CEO coach Andrew Wittman explains how he used intermittent fasting to get a lot more toned and finally see his abs. Following is a transcript of the video.

Back in — when I was deployed, I want to say 2010, 2011, coming up to where it was my 45th birthday, I wanted to see my abs. I’m reading all the studies on how you get your body to do that. There was a lot of research on intermittent fasting, and — course, they did the studies on soldiers. Thank you, US Army.

So they found out your body really doesn’t go into starvation mode. You could go 3 weeks on 800 calories and you don’t lose any muscle mass as long as you’re working out. Well, I could do that. So I started the fasting, the intermittent fasting, consuming my calories between 4 o’clock in the afternoon, 8 o’clock at night, by 8 o’clock at night, I’m done. I don’t eat again until 4 o’clock the next day at the earliest.

And during that time I will drink lots of water. I’ll drink black coffee or unsweet tea, and that’s pretty much it. I started in Kosovo — we deployed, I can tell you the dates. It was my wife’s birthday, February 3. I got back on May the first, I think. I followed this routine for right about 3 months, 12 weeks, 90 days, and I saw my abs… Booyah.

Sprimo portable air monitor lets you ‘see what you smell’ https://briefnews.eu/sprimo-portable-air-monitor-lets-you-see-what-you-smell/ https://briefnews.eu/sprimo-portable-air-monitor-lets-you-see-what-you-smell/#respond Thu, 06 Apr 2017 06:23:45 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/sprimo-portable-air-monitor-lets-you-see-what-you-smell/ Although the idea of an app that lets you “see what you smell” at first sounds borderline unsavory, dig a little deeper and we discover that it could actually turn out to be something really very useful.

Air pollution is a serious problem around the world though it’s often hard to know the true quality of the air we’re breathing at any given time.

That could be about to change thanks to an interesting new device launched this week on Kickstarter that plugs into your phone and provides data to the aforementioned accompanying app.

Developed by a two-person team based out of Silicon Valley, the Sprimo lets you check the quality of the air at any time and in any place, whether you’re indoors or outdoors. All you need to do is whip out your phone, plug in the Sprimo, and fire up the app.

The Sprimo boasts “cutting-edge gas detector technology able to detect thousands of volatile organic compounds.” Within seconds of activating the app, you’ll be offered an assessment of the surrounding air quality according to the level of airborne toxins and chemicals, while temperature and humidity readings are also offered.

A neat touch is that if enough people use Sprimo, the app will also offer interactive mapping of local and regional air quality readings so you can check readings far beyond your immediate vicinity.

Made from durable, high-impact ABS plastic and stainless steel, the diminutive device requires no power source and is cable-free.

More: Know how clean the air is by turning on a Philips Hue smart lightbulb

The first version is for iPhone only, though an Android model is also in development. Early-bird Kickstarter backers can secure a Sprimo with a pledge of just $ 20, which represents a generous 50 percent saving on the expected retail price. It’ll ship to anywhere in the world from July, 2017.

Sprimo isn’t the first portable air monitor to hit the market, but if it can offer reliable functionality at such an attractive price point, it could become a popular choice for the increasing number of people taking an interest in the air they breathe.
