WARNING: This article contains spoilers for The Handmaid’s Tale season three episode 11.

In the most recent instalment, June (played by Elisabeth Moss) went on a trip to Jezebels, only to bump into Commander Winslow (Christopher Meloni).

And while it looked as though June was about to subject to another sexual assault, she flipped and assaulted the Commander.

A struggle ensued but June managed to get a hold of a pen and repeatedly stabbed him with it, ending his life on the Hulu series.

A Martha found June in the aftermath of violent scene and helped her to escape before disposing of the body.

But has June really managed to get away with killing such an important man in Gilead?

One fan believes that the events of the episode point to an explanation for Winslow’s disappearance for those who will be investigating where he’s gone.

Reddit user Beteljuice01 wrote: “I just realized that it may line up perfectly that this all could be blamed on Winslow. Most commanders wouldn’t know handmaid’s by names they’re not people enough for that to those men. On top of that Jezebel’s is a drug and alcohol filled bender house.

“If Winslow didn’t bring a guardian with him then he probably showed up at Jezebel alone without telling anyone. We didn’t really see any aunts this time so if the Martha’s and everyone else says he left there’s not really any proof now that he’s been cremated.

“When you add that with the timing of the Waterfords disappearance they could be blamed for each other. People could believe that Winslow setup the Waterfords and went off to his happy life.

“That would be too narratively perfect but that’s sort of luck June has gotten time and time again.”

Could this be how Winslow’s death is explained and what leaves June able to continue her mission of taking down Gilead?

The episode also saw Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) arrested for war crimes.

The couple headed out on a road trip that quickly went wrong.

They encountered government rep Mark Tuelle (Sam Jaeger) who Serena had previously met with and he said he was taking them to a safe space to talk.

But he really led them into Canadian territory where soldiers swiftly apprehended them.

However, many think this could merely be a set-up on Serena’s part.

It should be noted that while Serena is taken away by the soldiers, she wasn’t seen being arrested by them.

But could she really be behind it?

The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 episode 12 airs Wednesday, August 7 on Hulu.

  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk released a statement on Monday in which he shed light on some of the questions raised last week by his statements about taking the company private.
  • But Musk’s explanation is incomplete and raises new questions, experts say.
  • Musk’s new statement doesn’t back up his claim last week that he had “secured” funding to take Tesla private, Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, the senior associate dean for leadership studies at the Yale School of Management, told Business Insider.
  • And Musk doesn’t explain an estimate he makes about the amount of funding he’ll have to raise to convert Tesla into a private company.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk released a statement on Monday in which he shed light on some of the questions raised last week by his statements about taking the company private. But Musk’s explanation is incomplete and raises new questions, experts told Business Insider.

Last week, Musk said he was considering taking Tesla private for $ 420 a share and implied that he had the funding to do so “secured,” pending a shareholder vote. But, at the time, he didn’t explain where that funding would come from.

  • Brexit committee of MPs calls on the government to provide more information on the “settled status” scheme for EU citizens living in the UK.
  • A deal on citizens rights is “far from” done, MPs of the Exiting the European Union Committee warned.
  • EU citizens in the UK, and UK citizens in the EU are “likely to lose some of the rights they had previously” after Brexit, the MPs said.
  • The committee called on the government to make the applications free, rather than the £65 currently planned.

LONDON — EU citizens living in the UK are “far from” having their rights secured after Brexit, an influential group of MPs has warned.

The Exiting the European Union Committee said the rights of EU citizens living in the UK — and of UK citizens living elsewhere in the EU — are still a long way from being finalised and said “substantial issues” remain before their basic rights are guaranteed.

Winter Olympics 2018: WATCH the moment Billy Morgan secured bronze medal in Big Air https://briefnews.eu/winter-olympics-2018-watch-the-moment-billy-morgan-secured-bronze-medal-in-big-air/ https://briefnews.eu/winter-olympics-2018-watch-the-moment-billy-morgan-secured-bronze-medal-in-big-air/#respond Sat, 24 Feb 2018 03:23:04 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/winter-olympics-2018-watch-the-moment-billy-morgan-secured-bronze-medal-in-big-air/

The Brit went into the competition as a possible contender to pick up a medal but after two runs he sat down in eighth.

Heading into the final run, Morgan had nothing to lose and everything to gain and he pulled off a magical routine with a double grab to move up into the medal positions.

Morgan punched the air as he nailed the landing and awaited the scores from the judges.

And he couldn’t quite believe it as he was given a 85.50 that proved good enough for bronze.

Then it was a nervous wait as other jumpers competed to take third place away from him.

Max Parrot was the final one to go, a silver medallist in the slopestyle at this Olympics, but he choked on his final jump, leading to scenes of jubilation from the British section of fans.

In picking up the bronze, Morgan ensured Great Britain achieved their greatest ever medal haul at a Winter Olympics with five.

Sebastien Toutant won gold for Canada while USA’s Kyle Mack finished in second for silver.

Dom Parsons (bronze), Lizzy Yarnold (gold), Laura Dees (bronze) and Izzy Atkins (bronze) are the other medallists for Great Britain in Pyeongchang so far.

'Excalibur' secured with CEMENT pulled from stone in Brecon Beacons – was it a STAG do? https://briefnews.eu/excalibur-secured-with-cement-pulled-from-stone-in-brecon-beacons-was-it-a-stag-do/ https://briefnews.eu/excalibur-secured-with-cement-pulled-from-stone-in-brecon-beacons-was-it-a-stag-do/#respond Thu, 19 Oct 2017 09:04:59 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/excalibur-secured-with-cement-pulled-from-stone-in-brecon-beacons-was-it-a-stag-do/

The legend of Excalibur is famous around the globe; the story of the sword stuck in the stone removed by King Arthur is one people have told for centuries.

Has the story come to life? A sword fixed into a stone with cement near Llangorse Lake, in the Brecon Beacons, has mysteriously disappeared.

Baffling the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, the sword was first reported missing on Saturday.

The tourist attraction is close to one of the locations rumoured to be near to Camelot.

Garnett Davies, who owns Lakeside Caravan Park and installed the tourist attraction, was the first to notice the popular sword was missing at the weekend.

Davies is hoping to find the original sword, telling Radio Wales photographer Adam Tatton-Reid he had started a fundraising page to raise money for a replacement. The page has raised over £500 already.

He told MailOnline: “We want it back. It was crafted specially by a blacksmith and cost several hundred pounds.

“The kids will miss it more than anyone.

“With little information to go on, it’s unlikely that the sword can be tracked down.”

The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority confirmed that no-one had been arrested.

Powys councillor Emily Durrant believed it wasn’t anyone who lived locally but had “suspicions” of a group that had visited the area that same evening.

With the sword being specially made by a local blacksmith, it is hoped that it can be retrieved instead of making a new one.

The King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table isn’t the only mysterious legend to excite historians.

Recent ancient structures have recently been found in Saudi Arabia, dating back thousands of years.

The 400 mysterious structures have been found on the edge of volcanoes in the Harrat Khaybar region.

The reason or purpose of the buildings has confused experts.

At last, Wonder Woman 2 has secured Patty Jenkins as director https://briefnews.eu/at-last-wonder-woman-2-has-secured-patty-jenkins-as-director/ https://briefnews.eu/at-last-wonder-woman-2-has-secured-patty-jenkins-as-director/#respond Tue, 12 Sep 2017 01:13:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/at-last-wonder-woman-2-has-secured-patty-jenkins-as-director/

Wonder Woman has become one of the biggest superhero movies in history, earning $ 410 million in the US and another $ 405 million abroad. Its star, Gal Gadot, inspired major fan meltdowns at Comic-Con. And yet Warner Bros. waited months before figuring out who would direct the sequel. Now they’ve finally cut a deal with Patty Jenkins, who wrote and directed the first film. Jenkins will be getting $ 8 million, a bit of a raise from the $ 1 million she got last time.

This has been a roller coaster ride for Jenkins, who rocketed from the beloved indie director of Monster to one of Hollywood’s most sought-after blockbuster makers. She’s even aroused the ire (or perhaps envy?) of director James Cameron (Terminator, Avatar), who scolded her publicly for creating “an objectified icon” out of the hero from Themyscira. He said Wonder Woman is “just male Hollywood doing the same old thing… it’s a step backwards.” Jenkins seemed a little mystified at being called “male Hollywood.” She replied on Twitter that “there is no right and wrong kind of powerful woman” and that women can judge for themselves what kind icons they prefer.

Obviously Warner Bros. wants Jenkins to keep doing whatever it was that brought in almost a billion dollars. Variety reports that she’s already working on a script with DC film universe head Geoff Johns. Her contract reportedly involved her writing, directing, and producing the sequel, as well as “a substantial backend of box office grosses.” Godot is returning to star, and the movie is slated for release December 13, 2019.

Samsung secured record profits in the second quarter https://briefnews.eu/samsung-secured-record-profits-in-the-second-quarter/ https://briefnews.eu/samsung-secured-record-profits-in-the-second-quarter/#respond Thu, 27 Jul 2017 05:08:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/samsung-secured-record-profits-in-the-second-quarter/

As expected, Samsung registered a record operating profit of 14.07 trillion won ($ 12.6 billion US) in Q2 2017. Interestingly, the breakdown reveals that while its mobile division’s (including Galaxy S8 / S8+) sales were up over the same period last year, profits dropped slightly, which Samsung attributed to higher component costs. Luckily, since Samsung also makes chips for phones, storage and more, that division drove the record profit and seems poised to continue.

Looking forward, Samsung confirmed a new Galaxy Note is coming soon “with enhanced performance and features, to maintain the strong sales momentum of its premium smartphones, together with the Galaxy S8 and S8+.” Meanwhile, it also says “continued growth is expected thanks to stable supply of 10nm mobile processors and increased supply of OLED DDIs for flagship smartphones.” Those OLED displays likely include not only its devices but also the rumored OLED iPhone 8, which will reportedly arrive with displays made by Samsung.

Microsoft tests a secured Edge browser for business https://briefnews.eu/microsoft-tests-a-secured-edge-browser-for-business/ https://briefnews.eu/microsoft-tests-a-secured-edge-browser-for-business/#respond Fri, 05 May 2017 07:49:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/microsoft-tests-a-secured-edge-browser-for-business/

If the idea of a more secure Windows browser appeals to you — and why wouldn’t it — then you might want to have a peek at the latest Windows 10 Insider Preview Build. That’s because it includes the Windows Defender Application Guard for Microsoft Edge, which was announced last September but is finally available for testing today. This Application Guard essentially encases your browser in a virtual machine, so that if your browser ever gets attacked by malware, it won’t affect the rest of your PC.

To enable this, you need to use the “Turn Windows features on or off” dialog, and then mark the checkbox for “Windows Defender Application Guard.” Now when you open Microsoft Edge and click on the menu, you’ll see the option for a “New Application Guard window.” Click it, and a new special isolated browser window will appear.

The whole thing is possible due to the Virtualization Based Security (VBS) made possible by Windows 10. The virtual PC created by Application Guard would keep the Edge browser separate from storage, other apps and the Windows 10 kernel. Other browsers offer “sandboxes” too, but Microsoft says that Application Guard is unique because there’s a hardware container that makes it impossible for malware and other exploits to seep through.

There are a couple of caveats though. Running Edge in a virtual machine will likely slow it down, and since each browser’s session is siloed, all data and cookies are lost once you close it. It’s also only available for Enterprise users for now, presumably because their security needs are much higher than the average person. Still, perhaps it could be introduced as an optional feature later on for everyday users.

Aside from Application Guard, the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build also includes an improved PDF Reader for Microsoft Edge and integrated Cortana settings.

Researchers have uncovered a rash of ongoing attacks designed to damage routers and other Internet-connected appliances so badly that they become effectively inoperable.

PDoS attack bots (short for “permanent denial-of-service”) scan the Internet for Linux-based routers, bridges, or similar Internet-connected devices that require only factory-default passwords to grant remote administrator access. Once the bots find a vulnerable target, they run a series of highly debilitating commands that wipe all the files stored on the device, corrupt the device’s storage, and sever its Internet connection. Given the cost and time required to repair the damage, the device is effectively destroyed, or bricked, from the perspective of the typical consumer.

Over a four-day span last month, researchers from security firm Radware detected roughly 2,250 PDoS attempts on devices they made available in a specially constructed honeypot. The attacks came from two separate botnets—dubbed BrickerBot.1 and BrickerBot.2—with nodes for the first located all around the world. BrickerBot.1 eventually went silent, but even now the more destructive BrickerBot.2 attempts a log-on to one of the Radware-operated honeypot devices roughly once every two hours. The bots brick real-world devices that have the telnet protocol enabled and are protected by default passwords, with no clear sign to the owner of what happened or why.
