Saturday Night Live‘s Season 46 premiere, with host Chris Rock and musical guest Megan Thee Stallion, delivered 7.77 million total viewers and a 1.68 demo rating, marking the NBC sketch comedy series’ most watched season opener in four years (since 2016, when Margot Robbie and The Weeknd drew 8.3 mil).

Excluding that 2016 telecast, this weekend’s episode represents the most-watched season premiere since 2008 (when Michael Phelps and musical guest Lil Wayne delivered 10.15 million).

SNL‘s return also marks the No. 1 most-watched entertainment telecast of the week to date on the Big 4 networks and No. 2-rated, behind only The Masked Singer’s 1.87.

There were some 3.45 million Muslims living in the United States in 2017, according to research by Pew Research Center. That number is expected to jump significantly over the next couple of decades.

Using a variety of different measures, including its own survey and demographic research, Pew determined there were some 3.45 million Muslims of all ages living in the US, and that this religious denomination comprises about 1.1 percent of the US population. The US Census Bureau does not ask questions regarding religion affiliations in its surveys.

That put Muslims in third place in terms of numbers behind Christians and Jews, respectively. However, that number is expected to change rather rapidly by 2050.

According to Pew, “the US Muslim population will grow much faster than the country’s Jewish population. By 2040, Muslims will replace Jews as the nation’s second-largest religious group after Christians.”

Projecting ahead to 2050, it estimated that the US Muslim population would reach 8.1 million, or 2.1 percent of the nation’s total population — nearly double the number today.

Pew provided a glimpse of the demographic dispersal of the Muslim population, noting that they were not distributed evenly. Washington, DC has a rather large Muslim community, the survey noted, while some states, like New Jersey, have two to three times as many Muslims adults per capita when compared to the national average.

In its first survey of Muslim Americans in 2007, Pew estimated that there were 2.35 million Muslims in the US. By 2011, the number had increased to 2.75 million (including 1.8 million adults).

“Since then, the Muslim population has continued to grow at a rate of roughly 100,000 per year, driven both by higher fertility rates among Muslim Americans as well as the continued migration of Muslims to the US,” the polling organization said.

Meanwhile, religious conversion did not have a significant impact on the number of Muslims now residing in the country. Pew explained this was due to about as many Americans converting to Islam as those leaving the faith.

French carmaker Peugeot is partnering with Boston, Massachusetts-based tech firm nuTonomy to test self-driving cars in Singapore.

NuTonomy’s software, sensors and computing platforms will be installed in Peugeot 3008 models as part of plans to develop the technology needed for large fleets of autonomous cars, PSA and nuTonomy said in a statement on Wednesday.

The latest PSA Group project seeks to work on “level 5” autonomous capable vehicles, which require no driver input, and will allow both companies to study how an “on-demand autonomous vehicle mobility service” performs, they said.

The combination is the latest between technology and automotive companies after Daimler, which owns Mercedes-Benz, last month unveiled an autonomous cars development partnership with supplier Robert Bosch, while BMW has announced an alliance with chip maker Intel and Israel’s Mobileye.

Autonomous driving in urban areas requires a more radical approach to vehicle design, particularly for software and sensors, to help a car navigate inner city obstacles, said Anne Laliron, Head of the Business Lab at PSA Group.

“That is the reason we jump on the opportunity to work with nuTonomy,” Laliron told Reuters.

PSA Group will use the project to learn about what components make sense, and which suppliers are available, Laliron said.

Following the initial phase of this partnership, the companies will consider expanding their on-road AV testing initiative to other major cities.

nuTonomy, a software company founded by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) academics and McKinsey management consultants was the first to begin on the road testing of driverless taxi services in Singapore last year.

It raised $ 16 million last May in a funding round led by Highland Capital Partners and has backing from Singapore government authorities and Samsung Ventures, among others.

German auto supplier ZF said in 2016 that it will supply hardware like sensors and cameras for autonomous PSA, which will hit the roads in 2018. Four of PSA’s self-driving cars successfully drove 360 miles between Paris and Bordeaux in 2015.

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake has struck 89 kilometers from Mashhad, Iran’s second most populous city, the US Geological Survey reported, adding that the tremor had a been registered at a shallow depth of 13 kilometers.

The quake hit northeastern Iran, 96 kilometers from the city of Mashhad, which has a population of over 2.3 million people.

There have been no reports of casualties or damage so far.

Tasnim news agency reported several aftershocks, which are expected to continue, while adding that phone service in the affected areas has been disrupted.

The epicenter was located at Sefid Sang, a city in Khorasan Razavi Province’s Qalandarabad District, the Iranian Seismological Center of Tehran University reported, as cited by Tasnim.

“It was horrible. It made a lot of noise. Everything was shaking,” a Mashhad resident told AFP.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has dispatched rescue teams to the affected areas, Tasnim said, adding that at least five aftershocks have followed the major quake.

Four tectonic plates (Arabia, Eurasia, India, and Africa, Anatolia) are responsible for seismic activity in the region, USGS said. In particular, the collision of the Arabian and Eurasian plates “causes crustal shortening” in the Alborz and Kopet Dag Mountains in northern Iran, which leads to earthquakes, it added.
