3232NASA replaces Artemis 1’s leaky fuel seals
https://briefnews.eu/nasa-replaces-artemis-1s-leaky-fuel-seals/
https://briefnews.eu/nasa-replaces-artemis-1s-leaky-fuel-seals/#respondMon, 12 Sep 2022 07:24:42 +0000https://briefnews.eu/nasa-replaces-artemis-1s-leaky-fuel-seals/NASA has completed a critical repair of its next-generation Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. On Friday, engineers replaced the leaky seal that forced the agency to scrub its most recent attempt to launch Artemis 1. On September 3rd, a fitting on one of the fuel lines to the SLS began leaking hydrogen. Ground crew at Kennedy Space Center tried to troubleshoot the problem three times, only for the leak to persist and force NASA to call off the launch attempt. On Friday, engineers also replaced the seal on a 4-inch hydrogen “bleed line” that was responsible for a smaller leak during an earlier August 29th launch attempt.
Engineers have replaced the seals associated with the hydrogen leak detected during the #Artemis I launch attempt on Sept. 3. The teams will inspect the new seals over the weekend and assess opportunities to launch: https://t.co/dT8A4UEkvdpic.twitter.com/xXzwbYOxMp
With the new gaskets in place, NASA plans to conduct a fueling test to verify they’re working as intended. The dry run will see engineers attempt to load the SLS with all 736,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen and oxygen it would need during a regular flight. NASA hopes to successfully complete that test as early as September 17th. “This demonstration will allow engineers to check the new seals under cryogenic, or supercold, conditions as expected on launch day and before proceeding to the next launch attempt,” the agency said.
On Thursday, NASA announced it was targeting September 23rd for another go at putting Artemis 1 into space, with September 27th as a backup. Whether it can make those dates will depend on next week’s fueling test and a decision from the US Space Force. Flight regulations require that NASA test the battery of Artemis 1’s flight termination system every 20 days. That’s something it can only do within the Kennedy Space Center’s Vehicle Assembly Building. The Space Force previously granted the agency an extension on the 20-day deadline. NASA has now asked for another waiver.

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! is one day closer to crowning a campmate the King or Queen of the Jungle. Last night, Ian Wright was the fifth famous face to return to reality after the public failed to save him from elimination. And according to Mediaworks, the next celebrity to leave the show has been revealed. Is Roman Kemp in danger?
Adele Roberts, Andrew Maxwell, Cliff Parisi, James Haskell and then last night, Ian have all left Snake Rock and returned to luxury.
Each one of the celebrities’ exits were predicted by Mediaworks and tonight, new data shows the Capital FM Breakfast host could be following in their footsteps.
As for how they predict the next evictee, a spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “Social media can offer insight into the public’s attitudes toward each participant due to it being very emotionally charged content.
“We’ve been using AI technology to analyse 100 daily tweets for each I’m A Celebrity contestant, and we’ve seen popularity drop for the likes of James Haskell and Cliff Parisi on our sentiment score over the last couple of days, correlating with the eviction of both contestants.”
“Based on the sentiment of tweets shown towards Roman since last night’s eviction, we’ve noticed a sudden drop in popularity towards him, as shown in the daily sentiment score graph.
“This has resulted in him being in the bottom two of the charts ahead of another eviction tonight.”
But Roman isn’t the only person who could be finding themselves chatting to hosts Ant and Dec later this evening.
Caitlyn Jenner has also plummeted when it comes to the daily sentiment score gra
While the challenge was physically demanding, both Roman and Caitlyn succeeded in winning all of the all important stars.
But neither of them were happy with the state they were left in after enduring the ongoing mess.
When asked how she was feeling following the trial, Caitlyn was too stunned to string a sentence together.
Roman meanwhile explained how gross he found the situation.

Milos Raonic dispatched Scott Griekspoor in three sets to give Canada a 3-1 win over the Netherlands on Sunday afternoon in their Davis Cup world group qualification playoff at Toronto.
Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., beat Griekspoor 7-6, 6-3, 6-4, for his second win of the five-match tie.
Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., won his singles rubber on Friday night, while Toronto's Daniel Nestor and Vancouver's Vasek Pospisil lost their doubles rubber on Saturday.
Griekspoor was subbed in for No. 44 Robin Haase an hour before the match. The 27-year-old was making his Davis Cup debut and is ranked 224th on the ATP Tour. He peaked at No. 205 in the world on Aug. 6.
Haase lost a lengthy five-set match to Shapovalov on Friday night, while Raonic had a brief three-set win over Thiemo de Bakker earlier that night, making him better rested.
Raonic, No. 20 on the ATP Tour, was the highest-ranked player in the tie.
Despite being a lopsided matchup on paper, Griekspoor came out strong, taking a 3-1 lead in the first set. Raonic leaned more and more on his big serve, firing nine aces to Griekspoor's one to battle back and take the set.
Raonic took firm control of the match in the second set. He added six more aces and finished off the frame when Griekspoor's volley return went wide.
He put away the third set with back-to-back aces. Raonic finished with 23 aces to Griekspoor's five.
The 46-year-old Nestor was honoured in a pre-match ceremony where he was inducted into Canada's Tennis Hall of Fame.
Nestor's skill in doubles competition made him invaluable to Canada at the Davis Cup, as he competed in 53 ties over 25 years, a reliable doubles competitor who earned a team-best 33-13 doubles record and was 15-15 in singles rubbers.
Nestor won eight Grand Slam doubles titles over his lengthy ATP Tour career with a variety of partners and won gold for Canada at the 2000 Sydney Olympics with Sebastien Lareau. He and Vasek Pospisil finished fourth in the 2016 Rio Games. In 2002, Nestor peaked as the top doubles player in the world.

With the game seemingly headed for penalties, the Uruguayan unleashed from the edge of the penalty area with a shot that as too good for Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young.
But the result was overshadowed by a scary incident that left City midfielder Luke Brattan unable to be moved for more than 40 minutes.
Fortunately for Brattan, fears late eased that he suffered a serious a spinal injury after copping an accidental boot to the head from Roar player Stefan Mauk in the 36th minute.
Brattan, a former Roar championship-winning player, lay on the turf being tended to by medical staff from both clubs.
While a St John’s Ambulance was at the ground, a lack of proper equipment to deal with the suspected neck and spinal problems led to the decision being made to wait for a Queensland Ambulance to arrive.
However in good news, a Melbourne City spokesman later said the injury was not as bad as first feared.
He said Brattan had pins and needles sensation in his arms but had movement in his legs, and was taken to Redcliffe Hospital in a precautionary measure to undergo a series of tests.
The incident occurred when Brattan slipped while battling for possession with Mauk, who joined the Roar in the off-season from City.
Brattan fell to the ground as Mauk lunged for the ball, and Mauk accidentally made contact with Brattan’s head.
Play eventually resumed, with the Roar’s French winger Eric Bautheac having a great chance to put Brisbane ahead in the 57th minute after a Jack Hingert cross found him at the far post.
But the marquee man failed to keep his volley under the crossbar.
The Roar continued to attack with Danish winger Tobias Mikkelsen finding Henrique with a low cross in the 64th minute.
But Brisbane’s Brazilian-Australian livewire was foiled by a timely tackle from City defender Nathaniel Atkinson.
Fornaroli had good chances late in normal time to put the visitors ahead but failed to hit target on both occasions.
However, he made amends in the 120th minute to break Roar hearts in front of 6151 fans and continue Brisbane’s poor FFA Cup record.
City coach Warren Joyce paid tribute to both teams for the way they handled the tough situation involving Brattan.
“Nobody like people leave in an ambulance, so I think it has an effect on everybody connected with the game tonight,” Joyce said.
“In saying that, the mentality and the attitude to get on with the game, and play at such a tempo at this stage in the season was a credit to both sets of players.”
Roar coach John Aloisi was shattered after his side’s defeat.
“I’m gutted, so are the players. We deserved to win, we had the better chances … didn’t punish them and then to concede a goal late on like that, a world-class finish, it’s hard to take,” said Aloisi, who also expressed his concern about Brattan.
“As long as Brattan’s okay, that’s the main thing.”

With scores locked 22-22, Isaako shaped to kick a field goal before weaving his way to the line for a sensational matchwinner for his injury-hit side. His try capped an incredible back and forth contest, highlighted by the showdown between NSW Origin centre hopefuls, James Roberts and Latrell Mitchell. Roberts used sheer speed to beat five to put the Broncos level with seven minutes to play after Mitchell had tormented him in a devastating first half display.
Incumbent Queensland forward Dylan Napa was sin-binned in a frenzied finish after felling Korbin Sims and will face a nervous wait at the judiciary after offering an early plea last week.
The hyped showdown between potential Queensland hookers Andrew McCullough and Jake Friend was unremarkable but the clash of centres more than made up for it. In another example of his State of Origin readiness, Mitchell toyed with Roberts to set up two first-half tries and look dangerous every time he touched the ball.
Roberts joked earlier this week that he still had the 20-year-old’s palm print on his chest from a fend in last year’s finals series.
He added to that show reel by brushing Roberts aside to usher the Roosters’ first try for Luke Keary 12 minutes in, while an accidental knee to Roberts’ groin completed a forgettable first 40 minutes for the Broncos speedster. He responded well, though, setting up Isaako for a four-pointer 10 minutes into the second stanza that reinstalled the host’s lead.
Again the Roosters had a reply, Isaac Liu bumping off McCullough beside the posts for a 18-16 lead entering the final 15 minutes before Boyd Cordner pounced on a Keary grubber to put Sydney ahead 22-16 with 13 minutes to play. Debutant Kotoni Staggs was thrust into the action after just three minutes, replacing a groggy Tom Opacic after he copped a knee while tackling Blake Ferguson.
His try and assist helped the Broncos, missing five regulars through injury, stay in the hunt before Roberts and Isaako powered them home. The win puts both sides level on 12 points, with 6-5 records entering the Origin period.

Poulter, 42 had been three shots clear of his 23-year old rival standing on the 11th tee but then found himself one behind when Hossler birdied four holes in succession from the 11th to move one shot clear at 19-under par.
Poulter then drew on his enormous Ryder Cup experience to hole a 20-foot birdie putt at the 72nd green top tie Hossler’s score of 67 and both finished on 19-under to send the event into extra holes.
Hossler then handed Poulter his first victory anywhere since 2012 in finding a fairway bunker with his drive and then send his second into the water guarding the green eventually taking a triple bogey ‘7’ to Poulter’s victory par.
“I had a good read on my putt on the final green in regulation as Beau’s putt was on much the same line and I knew it was going to break a fraction right and it did, so I rolled it in at the right time,” said Poulter.
“But I had to dig deep today and I am delighted with the way I played and how I’ve managed to come behind to win.
Poulter now joins a Masters field of 87 and returning to Augusta National for a first time since 2016 and with his appearance making amends after the controversy of falling short a week ago in qualifying for the year’s first major.
The firebrand English golfer drew on his Austin disappointment in missing out a week ago by .0302 of a World Ranking point and after being given incorrect information he had qualified for the Masters in winning his WGC – Dell Technologies Match-Play semi-final encounter.
In fact, Poulter then lost his afternoon quarter-final encounter in Austin to move to World No 51.
Poulter has used both his anger and ‘Ryder Cup-like’ determination to now head to Augusta National and in what will be a first Masters appearance since 2016.
“Last week was painful and to come here this week I was tired and I was frustrated on Thursday and I did not play my best stuff and I had packed my bags to leave on Friday,” he said.
“Thanks to a mental switch I said to myself ‘let’s go and play golf and see what happens’.
“So, to come out on Friday and shoot eight-under and then five-under on Saturday while today I was patient and I waited my time.
“This is just amazing as I haven’t won a stroke-play event in the States so this win, and to do it after the disappointment of last week and to be now going to Augusta, and to have done it in this fashion is amazing.”
The win is Poulter’s 17th career victory but only a third on the PGA Tour after two earlier WGC victories while it is a first anywhere since capturing his 2012 WGC – HSBC Champions win in Shanghai.
Also, Poulter is the first PGA Tour winner in 35 years to come from lying 123rd after a first round and win.
Triple Major winning Jordan Spieth gave his Masters goal a huge boost with a closing 66 to share third place with Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo (68).

Roger Federer won his 20th Grand Slam after victory over Marin Cilic
Federer eventually extended his Grand Slam record in the men’s game after an incredible three-hour battle on the Rod Laver court as it took five sets and some stunning changes of momentum.
Cilic fought bravely but Roger Federer was just too good in the end and won 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
World No 2 Federer came into he match hot favourite having not dropped a set on the way to the final and after beating Cilic in the Wimbledon final last year.
And he surged to an early lead in comfortable fashion before Cilic rounded to make a game of it.
Federer simply blew Cilic away in the first set and looked on course for a straight-set victory but things swung round in the second set.
Cilic took it to a tie break and managed to get level in the match and make it a contest.

Federer then swarmed forward and won the third without much trouble before Cilic managed to get on top again.
But that was the end of the fight and Federer roared home in the final set to make it 20 Grand Slam titles and a sixth Australian Open title.
“I’m so happy, it’s unbelievable,” Federer said on court afterwards.
“It’s been a long time waiting for this final. It’s easier in the afternoon, but when it’s at night you think about it all day. I’m happy it’s over now. It’s a dream come true and the fairytale continues.
“After the year I had last year, it’s incredible.”
The 36-year-old, the second oldest man to win a slam title behind Ken Rosewall, moves four clear again of Rafael Nadal in terms of overall titles and is only three behind Serena Williams and four adrift of all-time record holder Margaret Court.
The crunch moment of the match came in the opening game of the decider. Playing at his peak, Cilic overpowered Federer from the baseline but the second seed withstood the pressure to save two break points.

Roger Federer is the greatest tennis player of all time – but how much do you really know about him?

1. Classified ‘unfit’ to serve in Swiss military due to back problems in 2003
A successful HawkEye challenge on a Cilic second serve helped him break in the next game and another break for 5-1 left him serving for the title. He needed only one match point, with Cilic netting a backhand return.
The Croatian appealed to HawkEye but the serve just clipped the line.
“First of all congrats to Roger and his team,” Cilic said, who will move up to No 3 in the world tomorrow.
“It’s amazing what he does year after year. All the best for 2018.
“It was an amazing journey for me. It could have been the best two weeks of my life. I had the chance at the beginning of the fifth but he played a great match.
“My team have been unbelievable for the last two weeks. We started this year amazingly well and hopefully we can reach more finals and lift more trophies!”

Marin Cilic will move up to No 3 in the world after reaching the Australian Open final
Controversially, the roof was shut on Rod Laver Arena, with the tournament referee using his discretion to implement the extreme heat policy even though it was an evening match and the temperature was not at the 40C threshold.
The combination of heat and humidity arguably made conditions more brutal than when the temperature was hotter earlier in the tournament and the referee may have had the fate of women’s runner-up Simona Halep in mind.
The women’s final was played in similar conditions, although not quite as hot, and ESPN showed a picture of Halep in hospital on a drip on Saturday night, apparently suffering from dehydration after her gruelling battle with Caroline Wozniacki.
The decision certainly seemed to play into Federer’s hands. If the Swiss is great outdoors, he is the master indoors, suffocating opponents with his pace of play.
Cilic certainly looked like he needed space to breathe as he dumped a smash into the bottom of the net to drop serve in the opening game and it got worse from there until he composed himself to hold in the fifth game.

Roger Federer makes it 20 Grand Slam titles with victory at the Australian Open
Although the first set was gone, the last couple of games at least allowed the 29-year-old to get a foothold, and it was he who eventually claimed a second set that saw both men have chances.
Cilic looked like he might have missed his opportunity when he netted a weak backhand on set point at 5-4 but he made up for it with a terrific tie-break, his improvement in the match demonstrated by the rock solid smash that clinched it.
He was the better player at the start of the third set, too, but Federer found his level again to take it and looked poised to cruise over the line at 3-1 in the fourth.
However, Federer was struggling to find a first serve and Cilic began to crush the second one with his forehand. The Croatian engineered an unlikely turnaround by winning five straight games to force a decider.
He piled the pressure on at the start of the fifth, overpowering Federer from the baseline, but the 36-year-old held firm to save two break points. And with that Cilic’s window of opportunity shut.
