Bella was retired to a rescue home after just four contests. 

But the seven-year-old blue greyhound is now the canine lead in All The Money In The World, the latest offering from Blade Runner and Alien director Ridley Scott.

The film, which has landed Christopher Plummer a Best Supporting Actor nomination, tells the story of the kidnapping of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty’s 16-year-old grandson in 1973. 

Bella’s docile nature made her a natural in auditions for the film, which owner Liam Stubbings saw on a Facebook advert. 

Liam, 42, who along with his partner Kelly was sworn to secrecy about the audition last summer until now, said: “Greyhounds are not known for their obedience but Bella just lay down and sat there.” 

He added: “She’s not your average greyhound. She’s incredibly laid-back. It’s unusual for a greyhound not to have any chase instinct.”

Bella appears in the movie eating scraps from the floor in a flashback scene in Morocco, which was filmed at Yelverton Hall, Norfolk. 

Liam, from Heybridge, Essex, said: “Apparently the director Ridley Scott had been wandering around the set for the Morocco scene and came to the conclusion he wanted some greyhounds sniffing around there.” 

Liam, who is a volunteer with Kelly at Clarks Farm Greyhound Rescue in Little Totham, where they first met Bella, said she won over director Scott at the audition. 

Liam said: “It’s been a nightmare not being able to talk about it and tell people how well she’s done.

“We went to the set and Bella lay down to get accustomed. 

“This American guy came over, making a big fuss of Bella and chatting to me. 

“Then someone came over and said, ‘Ridley, we’re ready to start filming’.” 

Plummer, who at 88 is the oldest actor ever to be nominated for an Oscar, stepped into the role as J. Paul Getty at the last minute to replace Kevin Spacey following sex allegations against the actor.

Within the first five minutes of Sunday’s Teen Wolf premiere, it was clear that Scott & Co. were ready to get the heck out of Beacon Hills — if only their beloved hometown was ready to let them go.

“So much of 6A was about Stiles, so with these last 10, we really wanted to tell the story of the teen wolf — of Scott and his final battle,” executive producer Jeff Davis tells TVLine.

And with Scott, Lydia and Malia finally starting to forge their own paths in the world, Davis the universe could not have picked a less convenient time to drop a new end-of-the-world crisis — complete with a heap of mythology — in their laps. I think I’m most disappointed for Malia, to be honest; those “mysterious French men” she had planned for herself sounded really fun.

In less fun news, the episode also introduced a few new troublemakers, including a hellhound named Halwyn (played by Eye Candy‘s Casey Deidrick), whose fiery, shirtless existence was cut tragically short by an Argent bullet shot by Beacon Hills High School’s new guidance counselor. Of that character, Davis says there’s a “very good reason for her ending up in the situation she’s in,” one which will be revealed in Episode 615.

Besides the eye candy of it all, Halwyn’s death was also a bummer because he was basically the key to solving Lydia’s latest bonkers premonition — and what would a Teen Wolf premiere be without one of those? This particular vision found Lydia traipsing through the halls of BHHS, which were almost completely covered in spiderwebs. Naturally, those spiderwebs spoke to Lydia, warning of gunshots and screams and other pleasant things. Then came the kicker: “You let it out! You were supposed to ride with the hunt forever!” And with Halwyn unable to solve this final riddle for them, the pack will have to do some old-fashioned detective work.

Not participating in the mystery, at least not full-time, will be Stiles, whose voicemail to Scott made the pack question whether they should even get him involved. Besides, he has enough to worry about with his classes at Quantico — especially after the episode’s final moments, in which he discovered that Derek Hale is on the FBI’s radar for “mass murder.” (Bonus scoop: Davis says that the next time we see Tyler Hoechlin’s character, he’ll be in South America. As for Stiles, you can expect to see him pop up in “several episodes.”)

If you’re looking for more concrete answers, particularly related to the “price” that Lydia mentioned in the episode, Davis isn’t saying much — only that the mystery will “unfold over the course of the season.” So buckle up.

Assorted thoughts:

* I very much enjoyed all the hellhound-on-hellhound action this week.

* I also loved Malia as the source of comic relief. (“It’s just rats — rats and wolves. Maybe a little bug problem.”) Furthermore, I never want to see another rat on this show, and I definitely don’t want to hear the phrase “rat king.”)

* Lydia telling her mom “You know stuff, that means you have to do stuff” was such a brilliant, simple way of explaining how everyone has ended up where they are.

* Scott’s post-practice chat with Liam was damn near heartwarming and gave me all kinds of Derek-Scott flashbacks. (Dear Hayden, you’re missing out.)

The film critic, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, blamed the focus on backstory for the film’s arguably shoddy quality.

“It’s absolutely confirmation for me that Ridley Scott is as good as the script he’s working from,” he said, pointing to films like The Martian and the original Alien as “brilliant” examples.

“What we have is an attempt to do this kind of backstory that firstly has characters speaking in a way like no characters speak on Earth or in outer space; that also has a kind of ponderousness in a way which is so full of its own sense of portent that what it undermines is what was actually driving Alien in the first place.”

He added: “Which was this weird mutating thing… inspired by a wasp that lays eggs in a stunned prey.”

Kermode went on to talk about the thrill of the simplicity in the original Alien’s story; that it was just about mutating creatures turning their attention to humans. 

He continued: “Now what we’ve got into is a cycle of movies that are about backstory. Which isn’t ever what Alien was about.”

Alien: Covenant has an approval rating of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating a generally favourable response, but the writing has repeatedly come in for criticism.

“Nothing extraordinary. But when someone like her says that, you hang on to it for years. 

“When I got this job, I thought immediately of that moment.”

Alien: Covenant is out now.

Neil deGrasse Tyson appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in the US to explain one big problem with Ridley Scott’s premise.

The movie revolves around a group travelling to a new, previously unknown area.

“There is no sensible space mission that is going to send humans to a planet before we send robots,” Neil pointed out.

“Because if anything’s going to do some killing, they’ll kill the robots first and not the people.

“That’ll tell  us, ‘let’s try a different planet!’ So I don’t know what they’re doing there.”

Other than that, though, it seems Covenant’s set-up is reasonably legit.

Neil went on: “They’re sending people who are going to make babies and start a new civilisation – that’s cool.

“Genetic research shows only about 12 families started all human life in North and South America, so it’s not hard to imagine just a few fertile couples beginning an entire new generation.

“But these are the movies – and every time a movie takes place in space, the plot is they go to space and something bad happens.”

This new Season 6B teaser starts innocently enough, with Scott and his pack — in this case, Lydia and Malia — tracking down a killer in the woods. Pretty standard fare for a night out in Beacon Hills.

But it’s not long before Scott realizes they’re not alone out there — that someone, several someones actually, is hunting them down. And they’re shooting to kill.

“It’s something new, but also old,” Teen Wolf showrunner Jeff Davis tells TVLine of Season 6B. “Scott and his supernatural friends become pariahs once again. They’re feared and hunted. It’s very much a season of fear. Our inspiration was H.P. Lovecraft, so you’re going to be seeing a lot of dark horror. We have some really disgusting stuff coming up.”
