Wild oysters used to populate America's coasts. Conservationists are trying to bring them back — not just for eating, but to save our coastlines, too. https://i.insider.com/6328c88a4f9291001883ba82?format=jpeg
Mary Beth Gahan
I spend my days helping people learn how to coupon, find clearance deals, and save money.
I started my Instagram account in early 2020 because I was always telling people about the deals I was getting. My boyfriend at the time said, "Why don't you just put it online so the people interested in it will see it?" It just kind of grew from there.
My desire to find coupons came from a real need: In 2016, I was a broke college student and a new mom.
Everything was expensive and I was trying to find a way to save as much money as I could. I didn't really think I was going to get into couponing like I did. I thought I was just going to use coupons here and there, save a little bit of money. Then I realized just how much this could really impact people and how much money you really could save.
I started in 2021 with about 2,000 followers. At the beginning of this year, I had 10,000. Now, I'm at 23,000. It used to be a side gig thing, but with the referrals, brand deals and sponsorships, this is my main job. It's great. Growing up, I always wanted to do something for myself on my own and not worry about being bossed around by people.
When I wake up, I'll check different apps and see if any rebates have been posted. If they have, then I kind of cross-check with the sales going on with Target, Publix, CVS, wherever. Then, I search for coupons online. Really all you have to do is Google the brand and the coupon you're trying to find. Google does a pretty good job of pulling up anything relevant.
Then I go to the store, find the deals, and take pictures and videos. After that, I post the deals for people on my page.
Over the past couple of years and especially since Covid started, more companies are starting to pull coupons out of the Sunday paper insert. The Smart Source inserts also harder to find. But you can get the coupons digitally, like through the Kroger app or the Target app.
A lot of stores are now changing their coupon policies; they're not wanting to accept printable coupons or paper coupons anymore because of people using them illegally or printing multiple coupons. I think a lot of stores and a lot of brands are going digital, so they want people to do more of the apps and the rebate apps.
There are ways to save pretty much across the board. I never pay for toilet paper, skincare products or makeup – even diapers and wipes. You can get those extremely cheap. I think the main things that people for sure can get for free, or even make money getting through rebate apps, are toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner. The things people use every day, there is no need to ever pay for those because there's always a sale, a coupon or a rebate app that you can use to get them for free.
I use a multitude of apps, but if anyone was going to get just one app, get Ibotta. It has the most rebates on it and it's super user-friendly. All you have to is upload your receipt, click the items you got, then you get reimbursed through an account.

Both Google and Meta have taken steps to start paying US publishers for aggregating their news content, but neither tech giant has yet found a perfect solution that would fairly compensate publishers and potentially help combat the mass shuttering of newsrooms across America. The Wall Street Journal reported that Facebook stopped its program paying US publishers in July, and more recently, media outlets haven’t been thrilled by terms of Google’s “News Showcase” program, either, and were mostly resisting partnership.
In the latter case, WSJ reported that some media outlets were holding out on joining the News Showcase for a very specific reason. They were waiting to see what happened with a new bill—the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act—which seemed like a better deal. If passed, the JCPA would force Google and Meta to pay US news publishers collectively bargaining for fair payment. However, now, Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has introduced a new amendment to the JCPA which, the Chicago Tribune reports, was narrowly approved this week. And Cruz’s new stipulation may have effectively killed the previously bipartisan bill by diminishing Democratic support, thus crushing US publishers’ supposed dream deal.
What Cruz has suggested is an amendment to prohibit tech companies and news organizations from using the collective bargaining tool to collude on efforts to censor content. While the bill itself waives an antitrust agreement so that news organizations can collectively bargain with tech companies, Cruz says that this key antitrust exemption would not apply if during the negotiation process anyone “engages in any discussion of content moderation.”

The Justice Department is looking into Donald Trump's main fundraising arm, Save America, with a federal grand jury doling a fresh set of subpoenas this week to aides who worked in the Trump administration and the former president's election campaign, according to multiple reports.
The subpoenas appear to be a part of the DOJ's larger inquiry into the events leading up to the Capitol riot, ABC News reported. The Justice Department is currently investigating the moments leading up to the insurrection, attempts to obstruct that inquiry, and the scheme to overturn the 2020 vote using a slate of fake electors.
About a half-dozen current and former aides were subpoenaed, The New York Times reported, citing anonymous sources familiar with the investigation. This includes former Trump White House aides William B. Harrison, William S. Russell, and Nicholas Luna, as well as Ivanka Trump's chief of staff Julie Radford.
The interest in Trump's Save America PAC is a new development in the DOJ's probe, although it's unclear what particular actions the fundraising vehicle is being investigated for or how it relates to the inquiry into the January 6, 2021, attack, according to The Times.
Federal prosecutors are interested in the formation of the PAC and its spending practices, ABC News reported. A source familiar with the subpoenas' language told CNN that the department may be investigating whether those associated with the PAC employed baseless claims about the 2020 election to defraud people.
Save America did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
The development comes as Trump is mired in a series of ongoing criminal probes by the Justice Department.
On Thursday, the DOJ appealed a federal judge's order that would allow for an independent party to review thousands of documents that were seized from Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort.
In its filing, federal prosecutors wrote that the appeal would "likely" succeed.

]]>In the immediate wake of last week’s shocking explosion, we saw the charred and crumbled cafe, and Ray’s body on the floor behind the fallen table at which he had and State Dept. colleague Olivia Green been seated. And then a figure approached, nudging his body… which was still alive, we saw.
Back home, all they knew was that Ray was missing, and Jason personally delivered the news to Naima, at the family’s new home. Soon enough, all of Bravo descended upon the Perrys, as did Natalie and a most welcome Stella (who apparently still grabs the occasional coffee with Ray’s wife). While congregated, Sonny and Thirty got into it a bit, each blaming the other for Bravo being grounded. But it wasn’t long until Bravo got buzzed to report in, leaving Jason and Clay behind. Jason, though, was resolved to play some role in the search for Ray, so he brusquely walked away from Natalie and set off to see what he could make happen.
Following some awkward small talk about Stella’s failed attempt at another go with Clay (back when he was just starting out with Rebecca), she observed that he wasn’t spinning up with the others. He explained in no detail that he had been suspended from operating, and Stella gave him the pep talk he really needed.
Back at command, Davis laid out the intel on where Ray might be and who might have him, and then, since Bravo isn’t approved to operate, each team member was assigned to Alpha, Charlie or Foxtrot. Jason meanwhile stormed into Lindell’s office, insisting that 1) Bravo regroup for this rescue mission, 2) led by him and C) with Clay on the team. Lindell gave the OK on the first two, but was iffy on the third — until Jason pressed a bit harder, and soon enough the reconstituted Bravo Team was spinning up with the others. Jason, though, made clear to Sonny that this was a one-off for him, and that when it comes to leading Bravo, maybe Sonny should step up sometime.
Once in Tunisia, Jason strongly questioned a plan to breach one location before the second, saying it’d be wiser to hit them both at the same time. Bravo thus took the second possible location, even though it meant having no sat cover. Alas, they were spotted as they drove toward the building, and a firefight soon ensued, with the baddies having the higher ground/advantage shooting from the windows. Ray, meanwhile, was indeed inside the second location, and once he saw everyone start to scramble, he wrenched himself free from the wall he’d been shackled to.
But just as Bravo turned the tables and seized an opportunity to breach, a fleeing Ray was clotheslined in a hallway, bagged, and dragged to an SUV parked outside. As such, Bravo found no one inside the building — though later Davis produced video from a found cell phone that showed Ray had been there, and they just missed him. And now, with his captors poised to trade the valuable Westerner to the highest bidder, there was no knowing where and with whom Ray would end up….
What did you think of the fall finale, “Shockwave”? And how awesome was it to see Stella back? (Rebecca who?) SEAL Team returns Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 got real in the promo released Thursday ahead of the sister series’ November 12 premieres. The clip, you see, doesn’t just feature the ABC shows’ fictional life savers, it also shines a spotlight on actual essential workers from across the US.
“We all have heroes,” begins Grey’s leading lady Ellen Pompeo’s voiceover, “people we aspire to be… the ones who fight… who help us to survive…
“When it matters, the ones who always show up to save the day,” she concludes. “Thank you.”
It’s not just the video that’s paying tribute to essential workers, either; Season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy and Season 4 of Station 19 — which are kicking off with a two-hour crossover event — are also being produced in their honor. “This season, our work is dedicated to the healthcare workers who put their lives on the line every day to try to save ours,” explains Krista Vernoff, showrunner for both dramas. “Wear a mask, save someone else’s life.”
In an Instagram post, Pompeo added that “since we shut down filming [in March], 7,000 healthcare workers have died from Covid. I dedicate my Season 17 to all who have fallen and to every one of you who by the grace of God is still standing…
“This season is for you with humility and a bit of humor to get us through,” she continued, “and endless amounts of gratitude. I hope we do you proud.”
Previously, Vernoff told TVLine that the pandemic would play into both series. It’s “a whole new world for our hospital and for all of our characters.” Regardless, she promised that at least Station 19 was moving into a lighter season than its previous one. “The team pulls together and finds a lot of joy despite the heaviness of the world.”
Press PLAY on the video above to check it out. Then hit the comments with your hopes for Season 17 of Grey’s and Season 4 of Station 19.

Much of The 100‘s series finale remains a mystery, but one thing’s for sure: Jackson, Murphy and Raven will do everything they can to keep Emori from joining our list of the show’s most heartbreaking deaths.
TVLine has an exclusive clip from Wednesday’s final hour (The CW, 8/7c), which drops viewers into the latest episode of Sanctum’s Anatomy. As you’ll recall, Murphy’s beloved was impaled by an uncomfortably large metal bar when that bomb went off in the bunker, and she remains very much on death’s door.
Fortunately, the characters on this show tend to work more effectively when they’re under a time crunch — and this apparently also applies to emergency abdominal surgeries. (Raven tells Jackson that she’s familiar with defibrillators because “I’ve used one on myself” is such a flex.)
Of course, Emori isn’t the only character whose life is currently hanging in the balance. The show’s penultimate episode ended with Clarke discovering that Madi has lost most of her brain function; Octavia even offered to euthanize her, only to be interrupted by another troubling discovery — Cadogan has the code.
Hit PLAY on the video above for an exclusive peek at the series finale of The 100, then drop a comment with your hopes below. After seven seasons, how should it all end?

“It did get things under control before, but that’s the last resort,” he noted.
Kate soon continued the discussion, adding: “Yep, Boris Johnson has said on the front page of The Sun, ‘Stick to the rules so we can save Christmas.’
“That’s the general idea behind it,” she told ITV viewers, urging them to stick to the rules.
Today’s programme saw much discussion on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic after it was announced some parts of the country would be imposing curfews.

Money Heist began on a free-to-air channel in Spain and was an instant hit but as the show progressed, the viewing figures began to fall. When season two wrapped, the cast said goodbye to one another and prepared to move on with their lives as it had been decided La Casa De Papel would be cancelled. Fortunately, Netflix stepped in to save the popular series.
In Money Heist: The Phenomenon, it was revealed Netflix was the key to saving the series and continuing the story of The Professor (played by Alvaro Morte).
The narrator told viewers: “Our story begins in 2017 on a Spanish free-to-air TV Channel, Antena 3. We started off well with 4.5 million viewers. But…,” before trailing off.
“The first season did very well, especially at the start of the series, but viewership gradually declined in the second season,” producer Jesús Colmenar explained.
Rio star Miguel Herran added: “It dropped by half.”

While Netflix didn’t make a big announcement about the arrival of Money Heist, the cast noticed an increase in followers on their social media channels as the series took off worldwide.
Alex described: “Enormous banners in Saudi Arabia. I couldn’t believe it.”
Homages to La Casa De Papel and the Dali mask popped up everywhere including Brazil, Mexico and Columbia.
Money Heist went on to make it to the second most popular series in the main global ranking competing against every other show in history.
Seen sitting and ready to give advice, the money-saving expert was told they would return to him once the presenters had finished questioning the Housing Secretary.
However, it was some time before Martin was seen back on screen, with Lorraine Kelly, 60, replacing Ranvir before they spoke with the financial advisor again.
One of the main pieces of advice the reporter wanted to stress was for those who were self-employed not to make any rash decision.
With Chancellor Rishi Sunak, 39, recently telling freelancers a package is being crafted to help them with their finances, Martin reiterated this advice.
