After 10 years of MCU movies, Captain Marvel has only been referenced once. During the end credits scene of Avengers Infinity War, Nick Fury began to page her before dying in Thanos’ Snap himself. However, the message was sent, with the film ending on her red and green star logo. Her solo movie, set in the 1990s, is released a month before and fans are expecting Carol to be somehow key in the fight back against Thanos.

One theory is that the pager sent a message to Captain Marvel in the past. And now Fury star Jackson has confirmed that Brie Larson’s superhero can, in fact, time travel.

Speaking with ET, he said: “She’s pretty much the strongest character – in terms of someone with powers are able to do things – in the Marvel universe.

“So, for Carol Danvers to be that person and for Brie to become that person, it’s gonna be a dynamite thing.

“I mean, [the Avengers] are up against some really, really tough odds right now – we saw throughout Infinity War – so now we know that we need something that’s as powerful as Thanos.”

But noticeably in one toy leak was that Captain Marvel wasn’t wearing a suit.

Presumably, this is because she can naturally time travel thanks to her powers?

No doubt her solo movie will give a few hints as to her involvement in Endgame.

Avengers Endgame will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.

  • Disney and Marvel released the official trailer for next year’s “Captain Marvel” and we finally know why the hero punched an elderly lady in September’s first teaser trailer.
  • As revealed in the trailer, which debuted during Monday Night Football on ESPN, the woman was actually a Skrull, a shapeshifter from another galaxy.
  • The superhero movie will take place in the ’90s, before the events of other Marvel films, and star a de-aged Samuel L. Jackson who helps Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) navigate life as a superhero after she’s reborn with super powers to become Captain Marvel.
  • If you didn’t get enough of Jude Law in “Fantastic Beasts,” he’ll be in the movie too along with Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Annette Bening, and Clark Gregg.

‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Taking Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders Abroad https://briefnews.eu/spider-man-far-from-home-taking-samuel-l-jackson-and-cobie-smulders-abroad/ https://briefnews.eu/spider-man-far-from-home-taking-samuel-l-jackson-and-cobie-smulders-abroad/#respond Tue, 07 Aug 2018 19:25:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/spider-man-far-from-home-taking-samuel-l-jackson-and-cobie-smulders-abroad/ Nick Fury in Spider-Man Sequel

Spider-Man: Far From Home is in production right now overseas, and a couple rumored casting additions have just been confirmed that continue to undo certain events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After briefly appearing in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War, former SHIELD agents Nick Fury and Maria Hill will be getting involved in Spider-Man’s upcoming adventure abroad. But the question is how? Spoilers for Infinity War follow.

Vulture has learned that both Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders will have roles in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Their involvement in the Spidey sequel has been rumored for the past few weeks with Jackson posting to Instagram from both London, England and Capri, Italy, both locations being used for the sequel.

Recently added cast member Numan Acar posted to Instagram to confirm his role in the movie not too long ago, and fans quickly took notice that hashtags for #MariaHill and #NickFury were included in his post before he edited the text and removed them. He also included Jake Gyllenhaal as a hashtag as well, seemingly confirming his reported role as the villain Mysterio, but that’s something that has yet to be officially announced. The actor has been spotted in London recently though, adding more fuel to the reports.

This will be the first time Nick Fury and Maria Hill have encountered Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They will probably end up looking into the same threat while overseas in Europe. Undoubtedly, Peter Parker will be all too eager to be involved in their spy world, so cue plenty of pop culture references to James Bond and Jason Bourne.

But we’re still wondering exactly how the story of Spider-Man: Far From Home will unfold. After all, let’s not forget that Spider-Man, Nick Fury and Maria Hill all turned to dust at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. We talked about how Far From Home appears to be ditching the Iron Spider suit in favor of the other suit that Tony Stark designed for Peter Parker, which could indicate that the movie takes place before the events of Infinity War instead of after Avengers 4. Or it means that Spidey’s cool new suit gets trashed.

As for the rest of the Spider-Man: Far From Home cast, JB Smoove has some kind of role, and Michael Keaton is supposed to reprise his role as Aadrian Toomes, AKA The Vulture. Plus, Peter Parker’s classmates played by Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are supposed to be back as well. Hopefully, we’ll get official word on the cast sometime soon.

Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5, 2019.

Samuel Umtiti sends France to World Cup final https://briefnews.eu/samuel-umtiti-sends-france-to-world-cup-final/ https://briefnews.eu/samuel-umtiti-sends-france-to-world-cup-final/#respond Wed, 11 Jul 2018 01:17:45 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/samuel-umtiti-sends-france-to-world-cup-final/

Samuel Umtiti's 51st-minute header sent an impressive France into the World Cup final with a 1-0 win over Belgium in an absorbing first semi-final on Tuesday.

Didier Deschamps' side will face England or Croatia in Moscow on Sunday as the French look to lift the trophy for the second time following their triumph on home soil in 1998.

In an enthralling, albeit highly tactical rather than incident-packed match, it was once again a set-piece that proved decisive with Umtiti's near-post header from an Antoine Griezmann corner settling matters.

Samuel Umtiti scored the game's only goal as France advances to the World Cup final after defeating Belgium 1-0. 1:05

Having gained the lead, France showed the defensive nous to nullify the threat from Belgium’s Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne, closing out the game for a win that sent them to their second straight major tournament final, following their loss to Portugal in Euro 2016.

It had been suggested that France needed to step up a level in quality if they were to get past the Belgians and they did just that.

But the worrying factor for whoever wins Wednesday’s game in Moscow is that France still look to have another gear to move into.

Deschamps, coach at Euro 2016 and captain of the 1998 World Cup winners, suggested as much.

“We showed character and mentality, it was very hard for us tonight. We worked hard defensively, we needed to take advantage a bit more in the counter-attacks but congratulations to my players and my staff,” he said.

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez was left frustrated by his team missing out to a set-piece goal, a familiar outcome in this tournament.

“Unfortunately for us the difference was a dead-ball situation. The game was very close, very tight and it was going to be decided by a little bit of luck in front of goal,” he said.

Belgium took early control of midfield with France content to sit deep and eliminate the threat of counter-attacks Hazard and De Bruyne.

But it was by no means a purely negative approach as the French offered their own danger on the break, perfectly illustrated when Paul PogbaΓÇÖs delivery sent Kylian Mbappe racing towards goal and Belgium were thankful their keeper Thibaut Courtois was alert to snuff out the danger.

The first real opening came in the 16th minute when De Bruyne hooked the ball into the path of Hazard whose shot was just wide of Huge LlorisΓÇÖs far post.

Hazard was dangerous again moments later when he cut in from the left and unleashed a rasping drive which clipped off the back of Raphael Varane and just over the bar.

From a Belgium corner, Toby Alderweireld tested Lloris with a smart shot on the turn but as the half progressed France began to create more.

Olivier Giroud flashed a header just wide and Mbappe set up Benjamin Pavard whose low shot was kept out by the outstretched leg of Courtois.

It was a fascinating first half and all that was missing was a goal but one came soon after the break.

From Griezmann's corner, Umtiti beat Marouane Fellaini at the near post and powered a header home to put France ahead.

Fellaini flashed a header just wide and Axel Witsel forced a good save out of Lloris as Belgium pushed forward for an equaliser and France hung on in six minutes of stoppage-time to reach their third World Cup final.

Samuel L. Jackson Was as Surprised by the Ending of ‘Split’ as You Were https://briefnews.eu/samuel-l-jackson-was-as-surprised-by-the-ending-of-split-as-you-were/ https://briefnews.eu/samuel-l-jackson-was-as-surprised-by-the-ending-of-split-as-you-were/#respond Mon, 18 Jun 2018 01:58:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/samuel-l-jackson-was-as-surprised-by-the-ending-of-split-as-you-were/ Samuel L Jackson Split

Warning: Spoilers for Split follow, so turn back now if you haven’t seen it yet.

M. Night Shyamalan‘s 2017 psychological thriller Split has one of the most surprising endings of the past decade, stealthily setting up an unexpected sequel that fans have been wanting for years. And though he wasn’t directly involved with Split, Unbreakable star Samuel L. Jackson was just as surprised at Split’s ending as we were. Read his reaction to the movie’s shocking reveal below.

Samuel L. Jackson Split Reaction

Split follows a young girl (Anya Taylor-Joy) who’s kidnapped by “Kevin” (James McAvoy), a man suffering from dissociative identity disorder and who has 23 distinct personalities battling for space in his head. We thought the movie ended with the girl escaping and “Kevin” surviving an intense underground fight sequence, but then there’s a quick extra scene that completely changes everything we saw before:

Mic drop. The movie was set in the Unbreakable universe the whole time! The key characters of this universe – Bruce Willis‘s superhero David Dunn, Samuel L. Jackson’s supervillain Elijah Price/Mr. Glass, McAvoy’s Kevin/The Horde, and Taylor-Joy’s Casey Cooke – will return in Glass, the Unbreakable sequel fans have been clamoring for since 2001. But to hear Samuel L. Jackson tell it, he had no idea this was coming.

In an interview with Vulture, Jackson explains how he found out about the sequel:

“I remember when Night called me last year to say, ‘I need you to watch this movie I just made, and after you watch it, I’ll tell you what I’m thinking.’ So I watched Split, and at the end of it, we get Bruce in the café and the woman talks to him about Mr. Glass.” Jackson gasps in surprise, recalling the moment. “I was like, ‘So are we gonna make this movie?’ And Night says, ‘Well, it depends on the opening weekend.’”

Split’s $ 40 million opening weekend ended up being good enough to warrant this long-awaited sequel, which will pit Dunn against The Horde with Mr. Glass somewhere in between:

“All of a sudden, my character has the thing he wanted: the heroic good guy, the bad guy, and I get to be in the middle of them,” Jackson said. “It has a distinct satisfaction if you remember what his theory was all along, that there are people out here with extraordinary powers who can do extraordinary things. And it’s amazing to watch James have an argument with four different characters in front of my face.”

Aside from Split’s surprise ending, McAvoy’s towering performance is definitely the most notable thing about it, so I’m very much looking forward to seeing more of him playing multiple characters in the same body when Glass hits theaters on January 18, 2019.

Jlloyd Samuel dead: Former Aston Villa star dies in car crash, club to pay tribute tonight https://briefnews.eu/jlloyd-samuel-dead-former-aston-villa-star-dies-in-car-crash-club-to-pay-tribute-tonight/ https://briefnews.eu/jlloyd-samuel-dead-former-aston-villa-star-dies-in-car-crash-club-to-pay-tribute-tonight/#respond Tue, 15 May 2018 20:10:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/jlloyd-samuel-dead-former-aston-villa-star-dies-in-car-crash-club-to-pay-tribute-tonight/

The horrific news broke this afternoon – just hours before Aston Villa’s play-off semi-final second leg with Middlesbrough.

Samuel made 240 Premier League appearances for Villa and Bolton Wanderers and was capped twice at international level for Trinidad and Tobago.

The news was confirmed in a statement from the Trinidad and Tobago FA, who described how his ‘vehicle caught fire’ after a collision in England.

The statement read: “We’ve received some terrible news that former National defender and Ex-Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers player Jlloyd Samuel died in a car crash this morning in England.

“According to reports, Jlloyd was returning home after dropping his kids off to school and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

“His vehicle caught fire and his body was discovered burnt.

“The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association and his former national teammates at this time extends deepest condolences to his family members both in the UK and here in Trinidad and Tobago.”

Aston Villa tweeted: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of our former player Jlloyd Samuel at the age of just 37 in a car accident

“Our players will wear black armbands as a mark of respect tonight and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this very difficult time.”

The club added: “We will be holding a minute’s applause tonight as a mark of respect for our former defender Jlloyd Samuel, who passed away earlier today.”

Bolton’s official account tweeted: “Everybody associated with Bolton Wanderers Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former defender, Jlloyd Samuel.

“Rest in peace, Jlloyd. Our deepest condolences are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Stan Collymore paid a heartfelt tribute to his former team-mate, who he described as a fantastic pro.

“Devastating news about J Lloyd Samuel,” he said. Was a fantastic young pro @AVFCOfficial and I know many at our club will be truly distraught today.

“I know our club will honour him tonight and remainder of the season. Rest in peace Jay.”

Samuel spent three years playing in Iran after leaving Bolton and has most recently been player-manager of Cheshire non-league side Egerton.

Speaking about his experiences of playing in Iran, Samuel said last year: “When I first arrived at the training ground, they gave me a special welcome – I saw the sheep, the sheep looked at me, I was looking at the sheep and the next thing the neck is gone.

“People were walking through the blood, they put it on themselves and then carried on like nothing had happened.

“I soon realised that was their culture, they do it for good fortune. If they are struggling in the league, or need good luck for a big derby match, then they would do it before a game.

“In the end I would turn around, I did not want to see it, I was not against their religion, but it is something I did not want to see.”

Is Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury Actually in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’? https://briefnews.eu/is-samuel-l-jacksons-nick-fury-actually-in-avengers-infinity-war/ https://briefnews.eu/is-samuel-l-jacksons-nick-fury-actually-in-avengers-infinity-war/#respond Fri, 06 Apr 2018 09:39:55 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/is-samuel-l-jacksons-nick-fury-actually-in-avengers-infinity-war/ nick fury in infinity war

Avengers: Infinity War is packed with characters, but there’s one character who allegedly won’t be in the film (and no, we’re not talking about Hawkeye). That character is Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury. Jackson himself has said, flat-out, that he won’t be in the film. But could the actor be bending the truth? We might have the answer below. Or we might be wrong!

This is a potential spoiler for Infinity War, so if you want to go into the latest super-charged entry in the MCU, turn back now.

Avengers: Age of Ultron was the last time we saw Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the MCU. While we know for a fact that he appears in Captain Marvel, is there a chance we might see him before that, in Infinity War? Perhaps. Jackson has been absent from any and all Avengers: Infinity War promotional material, and that could be because he’s not in the film. In the past, Jackson himself has said he’s not in Avengers: Infinity War, nor is he in Avengers 4:

“I wasn’t in the ‘superhero argument’ movie [Captain America: Civil War], I’m not in Avengers 3 and 4. They’re shooting them now, and they haven’t called me yet. They wouldn’t let me go to Black Panther-ville, so it’s kinda like how you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?!”

Jackson might be telling the truth. Or he could be practicing the fine art of misdirection to make his appearance in the film a surprise. We have no concrete proof of this, but in the spirit of wild speculation, we turn to IMDb. /Film reader Brian Sosin pointed out to us that on the IMDb page for Avengers: Infinity War, there are two crew members listed with direct associations to Jackson. They are:

Jake Garber … make up artist for Samuel L. Jackson

And:

Qualen Bradley … stand in: Samuel L. Jackson

Of course, it goes without saying that anyone can edit IMDb, and that there is often incorrect info uploaded to the site as a result. That said, it’s also likely that Garber and Bradley uploaded these credits themselves. Smaller crew members on big films will typically add themselves on IMDb since no one else will, and it helps with their résumés. This is very common and it has helped shed light on (and spoil) major movies in the past.

So is Samuel L. Jackson in Infinity War? If he is, my guess is that it’s a small part. He might even appear in a post-credit scene that sets up Avengers 4. Having Fury pop-up post-credits would also be a direct call-back to the very first Marvel Cinematic Universe film – the character made his MCU debut in the Iron Man post-credit scene, after all. Since Infinity War is being billed as the culmination of every MCU film up until this point, there’s a certain dramatic unity to bringing Fury back for the post-credits here.

This would also lead directly into Avengers 4. In the quote above, Jackson says he’s not in Avengers 4, but the actor was allegedly spotted on the set. Then again, there’s a chance this is all misdirection. Michael Rooker appeared in a “deleted scene’ on the Thor: Ragnarok Blu-ray, even though he was never intended to be in the film itself. And he was also seen around the Infinity War set, which turned out to be a master act of trolling.

In other words, nobody knows nothing, and we’re all just speculating wildly until Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27, 2018.

Leeds United news: Samuel Saiz explains Elland Road transfer and Real Madrid education https://briefnews.eu/leeds-united-news-samuel-saiz-explains-elland-road-transfer-and-real-madrid-education/ https://briefnews.eu/leeds-united-news-samuel-saiz-explains-elland-road-transfer-and-real-madrid-education/#respond Mon, 23 Oct 2017 07:09:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/leeds-united-news-samuel-saiz-explains-elland-road-transfer-and-real-madrid-education/

Saiz, 26, got the Whites’ promotion push back on track with a brace in the 3-0 win against Bristol City on Saturday.

The Spaniard, who came through the youth ranks at , made the move to Elland Road from Spanish outfit Huesca in the summer transfer window.

And he said: “I came to Leeds because it is a big club and it is my dream to play with Leeds in the Premier League.

“I am confident we can get there this season if we work hard.

“Leeds is a very big club but I was brought up at Real Madrid, which is the biggest in the world and the most successful.

“I trained with the first team, which was a great experience.

“I learnt so much and I hope that will help me at Leeds.”

The game at Ashton Gate ended in controversy after defender Gaetano Berardi broke City striker Matty Taylor’s nose with a headbutt.

Berardi saw red but Taylor was also sent off and midfielder Marlon Pack said: “The ref sent Tayls off for initiating it. I’ve never heard that one before.

“It’s very confusing but hopefully the video will back Tayls up and it will be rescinded.”

City defender Bailey Wright added: “The ref got caught up in the emotion. Matty says he’s not done anything and I trust him. He’s an honest lad.”

Jessie T. Usher is the ‘Son of Shaft,’ Samuel L. Jackson and Richard Roundtree Also Returning https://briefnews.eu/jessie-t-usher-is-the-son-of-shaft-samuel-l-jackson-and-richard-roundtree-also-returning/ https://briefnews.eu/jessie-t-usher-is-the-son-of-shaft-samuel-l-jackson-and-richard-roundtree-also-returning/#respond Sat, 19 Aug 2017 13:56:18 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/jessie-t-usher-is-the-son-of-shaft-samuel-l-jackson-and-richard-roundtree-also-returning/ son of shaft

The new Shaft movie won’t be another reboot. In fact, it’s going to be a family affair. The newly titled Son of Shaft has cast Jessie T. Usher in the title role, but he’s not coming alone. He’s going to have a little help from his father. And his great uncle. Because it seems that previous Shaft actors Samuel L. Jackson and Richard Roundtree have also signed on to join director Tim Story‘s action/comedy.

Deadline has the news, reporting that New Line is currently negotiating to bring Jackson and Roundtree back into the fold. This means that Son of Shaft will have a direct connection to the previous film versions of the character, with Usher carrying the legacy of one of cinema’s coolest characters.

Richard Roundtree originated the character of John Shaft on the big screen in Gordon Parks’ 1971 film Shaft. He returned to play the badass private detective in 1972’s Shaft’s Big Score and 1973’s Shaft in Africa. Roundtree even made a cameo appearance in John Singleton’s 2000 reboot-of-sorts, also titled Shaft, which followed Samuel L. Jackson as NYPD detective John Shaft, the nephew of the original John Shaft. Hopefully, Usher’s character will also be named John Shaft, to make this all extra awesome/confusing.

If you haven’t seen Jessie T. Usher before, you probably haven’t watched the Starz series Survivor’s Remorse, which begins its fourth season this month. And like the rest of the world, you probably skipped Independence Day: Resurgence, where he played Dylan Hiller, the son of Will Smith’s character from the original movie.

In Son of Shaft, Usher will play the son of Jackson’s John Shaft (which makes him the grand nephew of Roundtree’s John Shaft) and they will have something of a mismatched buddy cop dynamic in the new movie. Here’s how Deadline describes the movie, which will see the millennial Shaft teaming up with old school daddy Shaft:

He will play the son of the detective, who, after long being estranged from his father, finds himself teamed up with him. The young man is an FBI agent, a cyber expert, and the partnership with dad is an uneasy collision of old school meets new school.

Tim Story, who signed to to direct Son of Shaft back in January (long before we knew any of these story details), recently told us that his movie will be a blend of action and comedy. Heck, he dropped the father/son detail right there on our lap:

My Shaft movie is going to be definitely not straight action. We’re going action-comedy or comedy-action, I’m not exactly sure which one comes first. We’re going to definitely make sure the stakes in the world are real, and then you’ve got these characters who are dealing with kind of a father/son situation, we’re going to see them put a family back together.

John Shaft is one of the main ’70s “blaxploitation” icons for a reason: he was effortlessly cool, the kind of streetwise badass who just oozed charisma…until it was time to kick ass and take names. Then he was all business. The remake is less memorable, but Jackson’s turn as Shaft 2.0 was as entertaining as you’d expect. So the thought of seeing three Shafts on the big screen together is certainly intriguing.

And honestly, that brings me to my one big hang-up here. Tim Story has made laid-back comedies (Babershop) and superhero movies (Fantastic Four and its sequel) and buddy cop action films (Ride Along), but can he make a Shaft movie? While I’m glad New Line has entrusted this character to a black director, John Shaft is too powerful and too important of an icon to be reduced to parody. Hopefully, Story’s promised comedic touches will enhance Shaft’s legacy rather than reduce him to a joke.

Son of Shaft is set to begin filming later this year.
