Christie Brinkley‘s pursuit of the Mirrorball is over before it even began. Ahead of Monday’s Dancing With the Stars premiere, the supermodel has dropped out of Season 28 due to an injury.

Instead, Brinkley’s daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook will step in for the remainder of the season, and she plans to perform a premiere routine despite having little time to rehearse.

“While rehearsing for the premiere of Dancing with the Stars, Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm. She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show,” ABC and BBC Studios confirmed in a statement. “Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, a Sports Illustrated model, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother’s place for the remainder of the season. We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor.”

DWTS is keeping its celebrity/pro dancer pairings under wraps until tonight’s premiere, but it’s rumored that Brinkley-Cook will be dancing with Val Chmerkovskiy. Season 28 kicks off at 8/7c on ABC.

A former US Navy submariner has filed a lawsuit alleging that Obama administration officials denied him equal protection under the law, and went easy on Hillary Clinton for the same offenses.

31-year-old Kristian Saucier served a year in federal prison for taking photographs of classified sections of the submarine he worked on. In the suit, filed in Albany, New York, on Monday, he argues that the same officials who threw the book at him went much easier on Hillary Clinton for using a private email server to handle classified State Department documents.

The US Department of Justice, former FBI Director James Comey and former President Barack Obama are named as some of the defendants in Saucier’s complaint.

Saucier was a 22-year-old machinist’s mate on the nuclear-powered USS Alexandria when he took the photos. He argued he meant no harm and was taking the photos to show his family where he worked. Instead of risking a charge of treason, Saucier pleaded guilty to unauthorized retention of national defense information. He received an ‘other-than-honorable’ discharge from the Navy, spent a year in prison and was placed on house arrest until President Donald Trump pardoned him in March.

“They interpreted the law in my case to say it was criminal,” Saucier told Fox News in June. “But they didn’t prosecute Hillary Clinton. Hillary is still walking free. Two guys on my ship did the same thing and weren’t treated as criminals. We want them to correct the wrong.”

Trump took a personal interest in Saucier’s case during the 2016 election campaign, while hammering Clinton for her email server indiscretions.

“They took the kid who wanted some pictures of the submarine,” he told a crowd at a rally before the November election. “That’s an old submarine! They’ve got plenty of pictures, if the enemy wants them, they’ve got plenty of them.”

“They put him in jail for a year. And then she’s allowed to run for president!” he said.

“I could have just taken the pardon by President Trump and gone on with my life,” Saucier told Fox News. However, he explained that he now feels obliged to address the double-standard that saw Clinton get away.

“The U.S. Constitution clearly states that all citizens are born with inalienable rights to be free from persecution by the government,” Saucier said. “My conviction and subsequent sentence for a minor military infraction compared to the treatment of politically connected individuals is a glaring example of a violation of the rights of all Americans to have equal protection under the law.”

Saucier was supposed to be represented by his attorney, Ronald Daigle. Daigle had helped Saucier secure the pardon from President Trump in March, but had his license suspended this month for taking money from the estate of a deceased person without proper authorization.

Saucier is one of seven people to receive a pardon from President Trump since he took office last year. Most recently, Trump pardoned Oregon ranchers Dwight and Steven Hammond, convicted of arson in 2016. Their sentencing in 2016 prompted the armed takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge by Ammon Bundy and a collection of militia members and ‘sovereign citizens,’ which led to a 40-day standoff with law enforcement.

A 30-year-old Russian citizen who attempted to sail solo from Sweden to Spain in a sailboat he bought in Stockholm has been rescued after a major search operation discovered a message written in moss.

The man, who has not yet been identified publicly, was reported missing Wednesday, after family and friends lost contact with him two days into his voyage, reports The Local Sweden. Sweden’s Coast Guard launched an immediate search and rescue operation involving boats and helicopters in coordination with the Maritime Administration, the Swedish Sea Rescue Society and a number of civilian volunteers.

Hopes of finding the stricken sailor dimmed Friday when search teams located the wrecked boat off the southeast coast of Sweden. They quickly established that the man had been stranded since Wednesday, reducing the likelihood that he would be found alive.

Before all hope was lost entirely, however, rescuers flying in a helicopter above the Östergötland archipelago spotted a man on a small island next to the word ‘Help’ written in large letters with moss he had collected. The sailor was quickly taken to hospital in Linköping and is reportedly in good condition.

A man livestreamed Hurricane Irma from his boat in Key West, as the Category 4 storm prepared to make landfall over the lower Keys.

The footage was broadcast from the sailing vessel Andromeda on the boat’s dedicated Facebook page.

Footage was interrupted on a number of occasions, finally cutting out as the eye of Hurricane Irma was just 20 miles east-southeast of Key West.

Rough seas were seen and strong winds could be heard as the sailor, Ryan Stone, pointed out debris in the water from his docked vessel.

In an earlier post he wrote that there was very little reception, suggesting a cell tower may have been lost.

His posts from September 8 show a much calmer scene as the boat owner made preparations to ride out the storm on board.

According to his Facebook post, the daring sailor planned to livestream for as long as he could, hoping to stay online for at least 24 hours.

Responding to a commenter, he admitted he had never been on a boat during a hurricane before. Stone said he was confident he and his crewmate would make it through, but was concerned about the damage the boat.would sustain.

Earlier, his crewmate Dustin Greer, also live streaming from the boat on his Facebook page, said it was a strong vessel and “the safest place to be.”

The Andromeda is described on its Facebook page, set up on August 13, as a sailing vessel built in 1976 in Holland for a wealthy attorney in Florida. Previous posts on the S/V Andromeda Facebook page are geolocated to Key West, Florida.

Stone runs the travel company Soul Escapes which offers tourists an alternative Key West vacation.

A US flag-bearing vessel of the name is registered on Marine Traffic. However, this appears to be a different boat and was last recorded in the Biscay Bay in France on August 31.

A Navy sailor who works at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Va. is under investigation for a “suspicious” fire that destroyed up to 900 urinalysis samples and records, The Virginian-Pilot reports.

Investigators say a large metal cage locker that housed the samples was “intentionally” set on fire with gasoline on May 1, the same day the sailor’s unit initiated a full drug test for its members, according to an affidavit filed Aug. 15.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the sailor’s cellphone records, according to AP.

An investigation revealed that the sailor spent $ 5.23 for gasoline at a Norfolk 7-Eleven around 4:45 p.m. May 1, and his vehicle was captured on an Oceana gate surveillance camera entering the base at 7:30 p.m., according to court documents. The vehicle left at 8:56 p.m – nine minutes after a fire alarm was received.

A Naval Criminal Investigative Service spokesman told the AP no one has yet been charged in the case.

Tokyo (AFP) – US and Japanese naval forces are searching for an American sailor who went missing during a joint drill in the South China Sea, officials said Wednesday. 

“US Navy and Japan Maritime Self-Defense-Force ships and aircraft are searching for a sailor from USS Stethem reported missing while the ship was conducting routine operations in the South China Sea” early Tuesday, the US 7th Fleet said in a statement.

“Multiple searches were conducted inside the ship but were unable to locate the sailor,” it said.

Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force, the country’s navy, confirmed two of its vessels as well as helicopters have been taking part in the search.

The two nations have called off their routine joint operation to focus on the search, a Japanese navy spokesman told AFP.

The sailor’s name is being withheld while the search is ongoing and the exact location of the search was not disclosed.

The incident comes weeks after seven American sailors were killed when their Navy destroyer collided with a Philippine-flagged cargo ship in a busy shipping channel off Japan’s coast.

Aged 19 to 37, the seamen were found by divers in flooded sleeping berths a day after the collision tore a huge gash in the side of the USS Fitzgerald. 

Japanese and US naval forces have been holding drills in the contested South China Sea in the face of Beijing’s increasing assertiveness over its maritime claims in the region. 

China is also involved in a simmering territorial row with Tokyo over disputed islands in the East China Sea.
