RT’s ‘The Keiser Report’ hosts are going gonzo in their new project, hitting the road to learn about the Trump presidency, the mainstream media brainwashing and what went wrong with the American Dream – straight from the people.

In their shout out to Hunter S. Thompson, Max Keiser and Stacey Herbert will travel the country behind the wheel from one coast to another to witness what real America looks like in 2019. In search of answers to their question, they’ll invite artists, writers, historians, economists and ordinary Americans for a frank and honest chat.

“America has always been home to such a diverse group of people; it’s always been the land of robber barons, outlaws, vagabonds, inventors, and dreamers. We want to meet them all and ask: ‘What’s happened to us?’” Keiser said.

“Gonzo America” premieres Wednesday, January 6 on RT International.

Media’s hyping of Russia threat a ‘grotesque absurdity’ – John Pilger on RT’s Going Underground https://briefnews.eu/medias-hyping-of-russia-threat-a-grotesque-absurdity-john-pilger-on-rts-going-underground/ https://briefnews.eu/medias-hyping-of-russia-threat-a-grotesque-absurdity-john-pilger-on-rts-going-underground/#respond Wed, 19 Dec 2018 20:12:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/medias-hyping-of-russia-threat-a-grotesque-absurdity-john-pilger-on-rts-going-underground/

Investigative journalist John Pilger has called out the “grotesque absurdity” of those in the Western media who hype the so-called threats from Russia and China to Cold War levels, in an interview with RT’s Going Underground.

Pilger told RT’s Afshin Rattansi that he finds it “difficult to believe” how some journalists “should go along, should allow themselves to be indulged by the British government at a time when there is a litany of lies about Russia, about China — about so many issues that endanger us.”

“I’ve never known such a grotesque absurdity as the elevation of Russia and China and the perceived enemies to the kind of Cold War status they had when I was a child,” he said.

Pilger also discussed the growing scandal around the UK government-funded Integrity Initiative which had posed as a charity fighting disinformation, but had been conducting secret influence campaigns across Europe and working hand-in-glove with selected journalists to maintain high levels of anti-Russian sentiment within the mainstream media.

The full interview with Pilger will air on Saturday on RT.

A California jury has ordered Monsanto to pay $ 289 million to a man who alleged the company’s glyphosate-based weed-killers, including Roundup, caused his cancer.

RT’s Boom Bust discusses possible future lawsuits against the GMO giant. In other news, Russia has sold off nearly all of its holdings of US debt recently. The show talks about what could be behind the drastic move.

Meanwhile, the European Union is targeting ‘citizenship for sale’ policies in the bloc. Is money laundering in Europe the key reason for that?

‘Come on England!’ Jose Mourinho makes shock selections in RT’s exclusive World Cup predictor https://briefnews.eu/come-on-england-jose-mourinho-makes-shock-selections-in-rts-exclusive-world-cup-predictor/ https://briefnews.eu/come-on-england-jose-mourinho-makes-shock-selections-in-rts-exclusive-world-cup-predictor/#respond Wed, 06 Jun 2018 08:08:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/come-on-england-jose-mourinho-makes-shock-selections-in-rts-exclusive-world-cup-predictor/ Managerial mastermind Jose Mourinho has backed England to come out on top against Belgium in their World Cup group battle in Russia – a shock selection in RT’s exclusive #MatchMourinho predictions playoff.

The top Portuguese coach will be appearing as a special RT guest host at the World Cup, and we are giving you the chance to pit your footballing wits against one of the shrewdest tacticians in the game as part of our #MatchMourinho predictor.

We can now exclusively reveal exactly who Mourinho is tipping for glory in Russia.

One of his shock selections came in Group G, where the Manchester United manager cheered ‘Come on England,’ as he announced that he fancies the Three Lions to finish on top of the pile ahead of their Red Devil rivals from Belgium.

The two teams meet in the final group game in Kaliningrad on June 25, and Mourinho is backing long-time underachievers England to edge out a much-fancied Belgian team, although he unsurprisingly believes both teams will progress as the top two at the expense of Panama and Tunisia.

Many would have backed the Red Devils to come out on top against England, given that they are taking a talent-laden squad to Russia, which includes the likes of wing-wizard Eden Hazard, playmaker Kevin De Bruyne and prolific frontman Romelu Lukaku – but Mourinho thinks otherwise.

Other World Cup selections saw double Champions League-winner Mourinho back hosts Russia over a Mohamed Salah-led Egypt to progress to the knockout stage from Group A, along with group favorites Uruguay.

His next selection proved controversial, as he favored Spain to prevail over his native Portugal in the battle of the Iberian giants to finish top of the pile in Group B – although, predictably, he backed both to progress as the top two.

Elsewhere, mystic Mourinho’s group stage calls included tipping Australia to make a shock progression from Group C alongside France – consigning Cristian Erikson’s Denmark to an early exit alongside Peru, a team heading to Russia as many people’s dark horses for a strong run.

Group D also threw up a Mourinho curveball, as the Man Utd manager settled on Super Eagles Nigeria to soar into the knockout stages along with Lionel Messi’s Argentina.

According to the Portuguese, that means Euro 2016 sensations Iceland will be heading home early, as well as a Croatia team boasting the midfield maestros Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic.

Groups E and F saw Mourinho back the big names, with his picks being Brazil, Switzerland, Germany and Mexico to advance respectively.

However, his predictive prowess reverted to upsets for Group H, and the Portuguese manager backed Senegal to top the pile ahead of Poland – despite the Poles having the prolific forward Robert Lewandowski in the ranks.

If you think Mourinho has hit the target with his group stage predictions or is well wide of the mark, let us know.

You can post your own predictions and reactions on RT Sport’s Facebook page, and go head to head with the Special One himself. RT’s World Cup prediction party will continue as we reveal Jose’s knockout stage selections soon, with more surprises sure to be in store.

Mass walkout of Spycops inquiry – RT’s Bill Dod leads debate with activist & retired top cop (VIDEO) https://briefnews.eu/mass-walkout-of-spycops-inquiry-rts-bill-dod-leads-debate-with-activist-retired-top-cop-video/ https://briefnews.eu/mass-walkout-of-spycops-inquiry-rts-bill-dod-leads-debate-with-activist-retired-top-cop-video/#respond Thu, 22 Mar 2018 17:54:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/mass-walkout-of-spycops-inquiry-rts-bill-dod-leads-debate-with-activist-retired-top-cop-video/ Over 60 people staged a mass walkout of the “spycops” inquiry, calling for the chairman at the helm of the investigation to step down. RT spoke to two men from opposite sides of the debate to see what they want from the inquiry.

Victims have slammed the inquiry’s move to grant members of the Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) anonymity. The SDS is the Special Branch unit, which infiltrated political and activist groups between 1968 and 2008. Some undercover cops engaged in sexual relationships with activists, and in at least one case fathered a child under false pretences. Some activists even stole the names of dead children to assume their identities.

Chairman of the inquiry, Sir John Mitting, has faced the ire of victims and campaigners for ruling that the anonymity of some police officers would remain in place. Lawyers have questioned whether this will compromise the investigation and the quality of evidence given by victims.

Phillippa Kaufmann QC, representing the core participants, told the court on Wednesday that: “it is now abundantly clear that we simply cannot participate in this hearing in a meaningful way. Our clients are not prepared actively to participate in a process where their presence is mere window dressing lacking all substance and meaning which would achieve nothing other than to lend the process a legitimacy it does not have.”

Kaufmann said that Mitting’s reasoning for not releasing the names of certain police officers was “scant and largely uninformative”. She also questioned his suitability to oversee the case.

As a result, attendees abandoned the courtroom, chanting “Mitting out” and unfurling a banner outside of the courthouse that read: “Tear down the #spycops inquiry’s brick wall of silence”.

After the drama at the Royal Courts of Justice had concluded, RT’s Bill Dod sat down with Undercover policing inquiry core participant Merrick Cork and retired MET superintendent Simon Turner to debate the issue, and to get to the bottom of what both parties are looking for in the inquiry.

‘The days of trusting our government are over’ – RT’s Afshin Rattansi on BBC Question Time https://briefnews.eu/the-days-of-trusting-our-government-are-over-rts-afshin-rattansi-on-bbc-question-time/ https://briefnews.eu/the-days-of-trusting-our-government-are-over-rts-afshin-rattansi-on-bbc-question-time/#respond Fri, 16 Mar 2018 12:42:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-days-of-trusting-our-government-are-over-rts-afshin-rattansi-on-bbc-question-time/

Going Underground’s Afshin Rattansi hit out at the UK government on the BBC’s Question Time program, after the very first question from the audience tackled accusations against Russia over the Salisbury poisoning scandal.

An audience member dove right into the Russia debate, asking: “How certain are you that the Salisbury attack was beyond doubt the responsibility of the Russian state?”

Labour’s Shadow Brexit secretary Keir Starmer commended the UK Prime Minister Theresa May in his response, stating that May was correct in expelling Russian diplomats following the attack on ex-double agent Sergei Skripal, which left the former spy, his daughter Yulia and a police officer in serious condition in hospital.

Rattansi swooped on Starmer’s comments, stating: “This person to my right who has had close contact with the intelligence services says ‘only Russia had these chemicals,’” he said, pointing at Starmer.

“That’s something, given that Britain vetoed in the past few hours a UN Security Council resolution asking for an investigation into these atrocities in Wiltshire. Why did Britain veto that resolution? That’s interesting, isn’t it?”

Rattansi’s statement referred to a move made by the UK on Wednesday blocking a UN Security Council statement drafted by Russia which called for an “urgent and civilized” investigation into the poisoning of former double agent Skripal.

Continuing, RT presenter Rattansi turned on Starmer and the Labour Party. “Why is it that neo-con, neo-liberal Labour Party members continue to try and use WMDs to push us into war,” he said. “That is an implication, certainly, over what your leader Jeremy Corbyn has been saying.”

Host David Dimbleby interrupted, attempting to steer the conversation back to the audience member’s original question. “I’m sorry, we’re getting off the point,” Dimbleby said. “You were asked a very simple question by Paul Wilson, do him the honor of answering his question. ‘How certain are you that the Salisbury attack was beyond doubt the responsibility of the Russian state?’”

On the matter, Rattansi stated: “Even the prime minister said it was only highly likely, so it is not beyond reasonable doubt. We must have an urgent investigation.”

When asked for his personal opinion, Rattansi said “I really don’t know,” before quoting RT’s tagline: “In a sense, RT as a channel, Going Underground, we try and look at certainty and question more.

“We cannot believe our governments anymore like we used to, just because a prime minister stands up and says, ‘the security services have told us so.’ Those days are over.”

Social media was divided by Rattansi’s comments. While some praised the presenter, others attacked him and the TV channel he represents.

The RT journalist thanked the BBC for inviting him on the program despite comments made from MP Sarah Wollaston calling for the other panelists to “walk out in disgust” over his involvement in the program.

“And can I just say thank you to the BBC for inviting me because the head of the liaison committee in Parliament, Sarah Wollaston MP, has told all the people on this panel to walk off,” he said. “That’s free speech in this country,” he added.

In turn, Starmer said: “I have not had a conversation with her, she has not spoken to me.” Rattansi replied: “She has tweeted that the entire panel should walk out, I never said she had spoken to you.”

‘Joke was on me, I missed flight’ – Amused ad awards chief about RT’s ‘blame us’ campaign https://briefnews.eu/joke-was-on-me-i-missed-flight-amused-ad-awards-chief-about-rts-blame-us-campaign/ https://briefnews.eu/joke-was-on-me-i-missed-flight-amused-ad-awards-chief-about-rts-blame-us-campaign/#respond Wed, 14 Mar 2018 11:57:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/joke-was-on-me-i-missed-flight-amused-ad-awards-chief-about-rts-blame-us-campaign/ RT’s tongue-in-cheek ‘blame us’ series of advertisements has gained attention at a prestigious marketing conference in Rome, from somebody who missed their flight because of the eye-catching campaign.

Launched last summer, the campaign played on the accusations mounted against RT by numerous politicians in the West, including Hillary Clinton. The Democrat presidential candidate said the channel contributed to her loss to Donald Trump in the 2016 election.

“Missed a plane? Lost an election? Blame it on us!” an RT banner at a Moscow airport proclaimed. There were other equally catchy slogans in the same campaign.

At least one person can actually blame RT for missing a flight, according to his comments at a marketing event in Rome this week. The conference was part of the prestigious Promax Awards for Europe’s best advertisers. Steve Kazanjian, the CEO and president of the association organizing the prestigious event, seemed amused by RT’s poking fun at the West.

“I dig that humor. Except the joke was on me, because I missed my flight that day,” he told an audience showing a selfie of himself next to an RT stand at Sheremetyevo International Airport. “That’s me at the airport having missed my flight after having a session with our friends at RT. Can you believe that?”

“If you get to Moscow, lovely time you’ll have there. But if you go the regular way to the airport, give yourself a five-hour time,” Kazanjian suggested.

RT’s #1917LIVE project – a reenactment of the revolutionary year in Russian history through Twitter accounts based on people who lived at the time – won the gold prize for the best Social Media Campaign. Teasers for the project scooped silver in the Special Event Spot category.

Best in Education: RT’s #1917Live project grabs prestigious social media ‘Shortys’ award https://briefnews.eu/best-in-education-rts-1917live-project-grabs-prestigious-social-media-shortys-award/ https://briefnews.eu/best-in-education-rts-1917live-project-grabs-prestigious-social-media-shortys-award/#respond Thu, 16 Nov 2017 19:56:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/best-in-education-rts-1917live-project-grabs-prestigious-social-media-shortys-award/

RT’s interactive large-scale historical reenactment of the Russian Revolution through real-time tweeting has been recognized as “Best in Education” at the prestigious Shorty Social Good Awards. The #1917Live effective use of the platform also brought it a Gold award in Twitter presence.

Beating 25 other contenders, “#1917LIVE: What if Twitter existed 100 years ago?” has gotten “one of the most competitive and prestigious” category of the Shorty Awards – “The Best in Education.” RT’s project competed alongside Google and Verizon programs that “seek to address education inside and outside of the classroom.”

#1917Live reenacts the events of the Russian Revolution as if historical characters of that time, from the last Russian Tsar Nicholas II and revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin, as well as ordinary people could share their voices on social media. Apart from reliving the events of a hundred years ago, one of the project’s key goals has been “to educate and inspire the audience to learn, while setting new best-in-class Twitter standards.”

Teaching history lessons in the social media era, the project allows anyone to join the reenactment and set up their own #1917Live account. Having grown rapidly since its launch in late 2016, the project attracted journalists, history enthusiasts and academics, including from Oxford, Georgetown, Cardiff and British Columbia. Meanwhile, the Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy in Croatia even uses RT’s Twitter project during its history classes. “Every innovation not only popularizes science, but also improves pedagogical approaches,” history professor Hrvoje Klasića says.

#1917Live has also become a finalist in “Best overall Twitter presence,” which honors the effective use of Twitter “to promote, enhance or otherwise endear their brand to the Twitter audience.” The #1917Live project has been outrun only by the American Civil Liberties Union’s account, said to be an “important part of the resistance to Trump’s unconstitutional agenda.”

The Shorty Awards, or “Shortys,” are a set of prestigious annual awards, which celebrate those producing content across the social web, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.

‘Report listing RT’s guests is designed to intimidate' https://briefnews.eu/report-listing-rts-guests-is-designed-to-intimidate/ https://briefnews.eu/report-listing-rts-guests-is-designed-to-intimidate/#respond Sun, 22 Oct 2017 02:13:37 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/report-listing-rts-guests-is-designed-to-intimidate/ A new report by a US-funded Czech think tank that targeted RT’s on-air guests is an attempt to stifle any views that go outside the accepted US neocon foreign policy of interventionism, Daniel McAdams, executive director of the Ron Paul Institute, told RT.

The group, called “European Values Think-Tank,” released a supposedly damning report about RT, criticizing over 2,300 experts who shared their views on the channel.
The institute, which receives funding from the US and other Western governments, called RT’s guests “useful idiots,” to borrow from a famous quote from Communist leader Vladimir Lenin.

Ironically, the list included the names of many figures known as harsh critics of Russia, including Republican Senator John McCain; film director Rob Reiner, a member of the Committee to Investigate Russia; and even former First Lady Michelle Obama.

RT: What do you make of this report? Are our guests “useful idiots,” in your opinion?

Daniel McAdams:I was looking through the list of guests who are “Russian dupes” and I see Dick Cheney, I see Joe Lieberman, I see Lindsey Graham, I see Michael Morell… So, the Russians agents are at very top of the US government. Even the leading anti-Russia figures are in fact Russian agents. I think we must hide under our beds because it is terrifying.

But I would say more seriously, what this is – [it’s] an attempt to stifle any views that go outside the accepted US neocon foreign policy of intervention. It is ironic that it is a Czech think tank doing this. This well may have come out from the old StB – the old Czechoslovakian intelligence service, which did its best to keep Czechs from hearing any kind of foreign policy information that deviated from their own government’s communist line. This sounds a lot like that.

RT: Do you think some guests might be deterred from appearing on RT?

DM: I think that is the intent. Let’s look at this: the reason I made a point of it earlier on the guests they had – this is not designed to inform individuals; this is not designed to inform – it is designed to propagandize, it is designed to intimidate; it is designed to isolate. I am certainly not here to defend RT. I am not here to defend Russia. What I am here to defend, though, is the marketplace of ideas.

RT provides a platform for individuals who do not buy into the neocon US foreign policy line to have a voice. I have never been asked at RT what I am going to say beforehand. Any time I’ve gone on the mainstream media, or attempted to, I have a long, sometimes 20- or 30-minute, interview beforehand, and often I am told my comments are not needed.

So, what we need in a free society is a marketplace of ideas that you maybe disagree with, but you should have the right to hear. How ironic that the United States government is funding an organization that is restricting the Americans’ ability to hear different views outside the US government view.

Annie Machon, former MI5 officer: ‘It’s a badge of honor’

RT: You’re a regular guest on RT. How do you feel about being described in the report as a “useful idiot”?

Annie Machon:I think we should wear it as a badge of honor, because it shows that there is a group of people out there, who are not afraid to challenge the Western consensus – perhaps we should have a club, who knows. I would say, though, more seriously, that I have been appearing on mainstream media news outlets for the last 20 years around the planet, and my perspective, my stance has remained absolutely resolute and absolutely the same. I have the same respective, same opinions on all sorts of different outlets. And it is only when I appear on RT that apparently I am now deemed to be a “useful idiot.”

I would also say, as well, that RT is one of the very few TV channels that, when it invites me on to do an interview, they do not insist on a pre-interview to censor and vet what I might be about to say. Many other TV channels do, because they are scared and they want to make sure that they are in control of what their guests are saying. Yet, I still appear on many other TV channels. Perhaps what I am saying is not being Putin’s “useful idiot,” perhaps it is just an alternative perspective that people need to hear.

RT: The report says our guests “undermine Western democracy” and “pollute the information space.” Is that what you’re up to when you’re on the air with us?

AM:Absolutely not. I am trying to put forward my perspective, my opinions, based on 25 years of expertise within certain fields, and I feel I do that professionally. Obviously other news outlets feel I do it professionally too, because I get re-invited back to all of those, too. So, it is just a case of freedom of expression.

NASA ASTRONAUTS ON RT’S SPACEWALK 360: ‘LIKE BEING IN SPACE AGAIN’ https://briefnews.eu/nasa-astronauts-on-rts-spacewalk-360-like-being-in-space-again/ https://briefnews.eu/nasa-astronauts-on-rts-spacewalk-360-like-being-in-space-again/#respond Thu, 19 Oct 2017 16:32:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/nasa-astronauts-on-rts-spacewalk-360-like-being-in-space-again/

TOULOUSE, 19 OCTOBER, 2017—NASA astronauts, as well as other guests and speakers at the 30th Planetary Congress, organized by the Association of Space Explorers (ASE), shared their impressions of RT’s Spacewalk 360 project, which presented the first-ever panoramic video filmed in open space—a collaborative effort between RT, Roscosmos State Corporation and Energia Rocket and Space Corporation.

Commenting on the world’s first-ever panoramic video filmed in open space, NASA astronaut Scott Altman, commander of the last two Hubble Space Telescope service missions, said: “Wow, it reminds me of being there. Very good. You get a little wobbly, like being in space again, the feeling of zero G.”

American astronauts also discussed the potential for using the RT video to prepare for future space missions, with Altman adding: “I think there are a lot of applications. One is clearly training, getting people used to what it’s going to be like in the perspective that you will have. But there is also a huge value in the entertainment: to be able to give other people the experience that you have on orbit. You have that sharing of that event, so you are very impressive.”

Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi, head of ASE Asia, noted: “It really looks real. I see the space station; I see the Soyuz. And of course I see the big Earth…It’s very well done! I think the best use is to inspire young generations, school kids and students to feel the emotion: a little bit of anxiety, a little bit of excitement, and a little bit of happiness to go outside the station and to do the spacewalk. And hopefully [it] motivates youngsters to go to space.”

Noguchi also stressed that Spacewalk 360 is superior to existing methods of using VR technologies for training astronauts. “Training? We do have a virtual reality vision system for a very long time, but not as good as this one! The important thing is that you put on a virtual reality, you turn around, you find the necessary equipment around you. It can be used both for the spacewalk and also for the internal science experiment. If you have to do the complicated operation it is good to have this type of device. I think all the space agencies, not just Japan, but in USA, Russia, Canada, China, they are very interested in using this type of new technology—virtual reality, mixed reality or augmented reality.”

NASA astronaut and author of the New York Times bestseller ‘Sky Walking: An Astronaut’s Memoir,’ Thomas Jones, also shared his impressions of the video. “I think what this kind of technology does is it enables you to voyage to a place like a space station, perhaps into the surface of the moon. We actually could transmit images back from Mars and then allow anyone back here—a student or a scientist—to walk around the Martian landscape. And I think that is the great use of the technology. [It] will be as that it takes you into space almost as if you could really make the journey over there. You experience it, you can look around, behind the boulder, crawl over the module of the space station. It’s quite good. Very impressive!”

Michael Lopez-Alegria, the NASA astronaut who holds the US record for the number of space walks completed, added: “The idea of having a VR experience outside the spacecraft is great. And it could be used for training as well […] the images here, they are real images. Congratulations, well done!”

Jean-Yves Le Gall, president of the French National Center for Space Research (CNES), noted the superiority of the experience over Hollywood movies about space. “You see, young people have probably seen many movies about space: ‘Gravity,’ ‘Interstellar,’ etc. But here it is: the reality. Sometimes I have some regrets because in these blockbusters made by Hollywood it is not exactly the reality. This is the reality; this is very interesting.”

Back In November 2016, RT became the first media outlet in history to ‘send’ viewers to space, providing unparalleled panoramic images of Earth as seen from aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Mashable commented that the video “gets you as close as possible to the experience of actually being aboard the ISS and looking down on our home planet.” The video received enthusiasm and praise not just from internet users, but also from former NASA astronauts and well-known public figures. Former astronauts Terry Virts and Clayton Anderson said the RT360 video was “one of the very best,” and American director Oliver Stone compared it to a videogame. Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, posted the video on her Twitter and Facebook, writing: “Very cool. First panoramic view of Earth can be seen from this 360-degree video shot aboard the International Space Station.”

In 2015, RT became one of the first international media outlets to start producing news content in the immersive 360-degree format and now boasts one of the largest original 360 content libraries, with more than 150 videos. RT’s 360 content is available on Facebook, YouTube and the RT360 mobile app (download at Google Play, App Store and Oculus Store).
