Iran will continue to export its oils and will break the sanctions reinstated by the US on Monday, the nation’s leader Hassan Rouhani said in a TV address, Reuters reports. DETAILS TO FOLLOW Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says that Trump is doomed to fail against Iran “just like Iraq’s Saddam Hussein did”, and that Tehran will not bow down to Washington and get rid of its “defensive” weapons. Should the worst-case scenario occur and Washington attacks Iran, the US would face the same fate as Iraq’s Saddam Hussein, Rouhani warned, referring to the eight-year Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s. “The same will happen to Trump. America will suffer the same fate as Saddam Hussein,” Rouhani said in a speech commemorating the start of the conflict, Reuters reports. DETAILS TO FOLLOW
In his first public statement since Trump signed an executive order reinstating sanctions against Tehran, Rouhani said that he will not negotiate with Washington while being sanctioned at same time, describing such tactics as “psychological warfare [against] the Iranian nation,” adding that “Trump’s call for direct talks is only for domestic consumption in America … and to create chaos in Iran.”
The Iranian president said that while his government favored dialogue, such talks required “honesty.”
“The US reimposes sanctions on Iran and pulls out of the nuclear deal, and then wants to hold talks with us,” Rouhani said in a Monday speech broadcast live on state television.
He went on to compare Trump’s alleged offer to stabbing someone with a knife, while claiming to only seek peaceful dialogue. “They’re imposing sanctions upon Iranian children, patients, and the people,” Rouhani said. He called on the White House to sign back on to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal if was indeed serious about negotiating with Tehran.
The first round of renewed US sanctions will take effect on Tuesday after midnight US Eastern time, with harsher measures expected to be implemented in early November. Washington is reinstating measures that were lifted under the nuclear deal, after unilaterally withdrawing from the historic Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Tehran in May.
The 2015 agreement, which placed tight controls on Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions, was signed by Iran, the United States, Russia, China and the European Union.
Washington’s unilateral withdrawal from the deal been widely condemned by the EU and other signatories, raising questions among European nations about whether the United States could still be considered a reliable transatlantic partner. The European Commission has stated that despite US sanctions, European companies will continue doing business in Iran under Brussels’ protection.

“People are absolutely free to criticise the government,” the Iranian president said Sunday, commenting on the ongoing mass protests in Iran for the first time. The protests should be held in a way that would lead to the improvement of the situation in the Islamic Republic and not the other way round, he added.
“Criticism is different from violence and damaging public properties,” Rouhani warned as he called on demonstrators to refrain from any disruptive behaviour. He also said dealing with the current problems that Iran is facing “would take time,” adding, the people and the government should help each other in overcoming the difficulties.
The president then chided Trump over his comments concerning the situation in Iran. The US leader earlier repeatedly accused the Islamic Republic of “corruption” and “squandering of the nation’s wealth to fund terrorism abroad” in a series of Twitter posts.
The US has no moral right to act as if it defended the rights of Iranians because Washington itself calls them terrorists, he said. “Those, who called Iranians terrorists, have no business sympathizing with our nation,” he added, referring to Trump’s comments.
“This man in America who is sympathizing today with our people has forgotten that he called the Iranian nation terrorists a few months ago,” the president said at a government meeting, as cited by the official IRNA news agency. “This man who is against the Iranian nation to his core has no right to sympathize with Iranians,” Rouhani said further, calling Trump an “ill-wisher” and that Iranians do not need his sympathy.
Trump recently went on a Twitter spree, demonizing Iran and calling on its leadership to “respect the people’s rights.” He also warned that “oppressive regimes” do not “endure forever,” and that the US “is watching very closely for human rights violations!”
Many reports of peaceful protests by Iranian citizens fed up with regime’s corruption & its squandering of the nation’s wealth to fund terrorism abroad. Iranian govt should respect their people’s rights, including right to express themselves. The world is watching! #IranProtests

Big protests in Iran. The people are finally getting wise as to how their money and wealth is being stolen and squandered on terrorism. Looks like they will not take it any longer. The USA is watching very closely for human rights violations!

The US president’s comments provoked an angry reaction in Tehran, with the Islamic Republic’s foreign ministry immediately slamming Trump’s remarks as an “opportunist and hypocritical” attempt to meddle in Iran’s internal affairs. Later, Iranian lawmakers accused Washington of hypocrisy by saying that it neither cares nor understand the Iranian demands.
“How can it [the US government] now claim to be defending the demands of the Iranian people?” Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, spokesman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission questioned, speaking to the Tasnim news agency. He said Washington has absolutely no right to pose as an advocate of the Iranian people’s interests, as America is largely to blame for their economic hardships because of the sanctions the US has imposed against the Islamic Republic.
Amir Abdollahian, a senior adviser to the Iranian parliament’s speaker on international affairs, also turned to Twitter, calling on Trump not to get too “excited” over the real nature of the rallies that have swept through the Islamic Republic over recent days. “Mr. Trump don’t get excited. People’s economic demands are different to rioters. Iranians prefer national security & religious democracy as practiced by [the] Islamic system over WH’s terrorist & deceptive policies,” he said in a Twitter post.

Iran has been gripped in a wave of mass demonstrations that started Thursday as people took to the streets to first protest against soaring food prices and unemployment. The rallies then turned into the biggest anti-government movement in eight years, as the crowds then aimed their anger at the Iranian government and the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The anti-government protests were countered Saturday by massive pro-government demonstrations. Rallies in support of the government were held in some 1,200 cities and towns across Iran, including the capital, Tehran and the second most populous city, Mashhad.
Some protests turned violent. Videos posted on social media showed protesters jostling with riot police, throwing stones, burning fires, and even hauling down a billboard of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Two people taking part in an unauthorized protest were killed in the city of Doroud (Dorud), 325 kilometers southwest of Tehran. On Sunday, Iran’s interior minister warned that “violence, fear and terror” will be dealt with firmly following the third consecutive night of unrest.

Iran could have better relations with Saudi Arabia, but Riyadh must first stop its military intervention in Yemen and distance itself from Israel, Iran’s president told lawmakers. The two nations are regional powerhouses deadlocked in a conflict.
The confrontation between Iran and Saudi Arabia is multi-layered, rooted in religious, economic and political differences between the two. But, according to Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, relations between the two may improve, if the Saudis take a certain course of action.
“Saudi Arabia should suspend its bombardment of Yemen and stop looking for contacts with the Zionist regime,” he said in an address to parliament on Sunday as cited by Iran’s Press TV. “We want Saudi Arabia to stop two things, the misguided friendship with Israel and the inhuman bombardment of Yemen.”
Rouhani said if these two conditions are met, relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia may be restored. Riyadh severed formal relations with Tehran in January 2016 in response to an attack on its embassy in the Islamic Republic. The diplomatic facility was seized by a crowd of angry protesters, who wanted revenge for the execution of prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr days earlier. The diplomatic rift came amid a long period of escalating tension between the two Muslim nations.
The crisis came months after the death of masses of pilgrims in Saudi Arabia-controlled Mina in September 2015. Of the estimated 2,400 pilgrims killed in the stampede over 460 were Iranian nationals. Iranian officials accused the Saudis of negligence and a failure to uphold their responsibility as custodians of Islamic holy sites. The criticism was branded as an attempt to play politics in Riyadh.
Saudi Arabia and Iran accuse each other of various misdeeds, including sponsoring terrorism, twisting the arms of third countries in the region, waging propaganda campaigns against each other and being unfaithful to the tenets of Islam, with the nations being champions of the two major sects of the religion. They are also on opposite sides in their relations with the United States, with Shia Iran having been a sworn enemy of Washington ever since the 1979 revolution and Sunni Saudi Arabia being a key military and trade partner for America.

The remarks by Rouhani came after senior Israeli officials indicated that their government was involved in clandestine cooperation with some Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, and was willing to do even more to curb the growing influence of Iran. Tehran has succeeded in furthering its goals in the region lately, Middle East observers say, gaining a better foothold in Iraq and Syria and defending Lebanon from a perceived attempt by Saudi Arabia to undermine the positions of Hezbollah militant movement.

The trilateral meeting between the Presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey in the Russian city of Sochi this week was the “right step, at the right time” for the future of Syria, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has said. Rouhani expressed his opinion to his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad in a phone call on Saturday, Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported. The Iranian President also assured the Syrian leadership that Tehran will continue to support the country in its fight against terrorism as well as during the reconciliation process.
The leaders of Russia, Turkey, and Iran will meet on Wednesday in Sochi to discuss joint efforts on how to bring lasting peace to Syria. The three countries previously agreed to be guarantors of the Syrian peace process.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Hassan Rouhani of Iran on Wednesday in Sochi to share their views on Syrian reconciliation. The meeting comes at a time when Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) is steadily losing ground in Syria.
Last week, the Kremlin confirmed the meeting, meant “to have an in-depth exchange of opinions on Syrian reconciliation, particularly in light of common successful work within the Astana format.”
Putin, Erdogan, and Rouhani “are planning to discuss further steps to ensure long-term stability in this country” amid “the successes in combatting terrorism and visible reduction of violence in Syria,” the Kremlin statement said.
The Sochi summit will also lay the groundwork for the ‘National Dialogue Congress,’ which will bring to the table both the Syrian government and various sectarian groups willing to enter into talks with Damascus. However, Ankara is reluctant to have direct talks with the Kurds, while the Syrian opposition is still skeptical about discussing peacemaking efforts with the government.
The summit comes just days after a surprise meeting between Putin and Syrian President Bashar Assad, who unexpectedly visited Sochi on Monday. Assad, whose forces have been fighting the terrorists since 2011, said that it was due to Russia’s support that Syria has managed to exist as a state.
Previously, the Russian president also held telephone conversations with US President Donald Trump and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow and Washington have reached “a fairly sustainable cooperation” on Syria, though there are “huge problems in condemning terrorists and extremists.”

The US may face isolation over its opposition to the internationally approved Iran nuclear deal, the country’s president, Hassan Rouhani, warned. Earlier, Donald Trump said he would not re-certify the 2015 deal and imposed further sanctions on Tehran.
Iran and its people have never and will never yield to pressure from any foreign government, the president added.
Rouhani dismissed America’s anti-nuclear rhetoric, saying the US is the only country to have ever used an atomic bomb.
Earlier on Friday, Trump announced that his administration will not certify Iran’s compliance with the nuclear agreement and announced new sanctions against Tehran.
The US leader said he wanted Congress to come up with legislation that will amend the nuclear accord. If negotiations with Tehran on the amendments fail, “the deal will be terminated,” he warned.
This comes despite the International Atomic Energy Agency’s earlier confirmation that the Middle East state is in compliance with its obligations.
Trump has always been critical of the Iranian deal, which was signed in 2015 after years of negotiation by Tehran and a group of world powers, which included the US, UK, Russia, France, China, Germany and the EU.

“If America wants to go back to the experience [of imposing sanctions], Iran would certainly return in a short time – not a week or a month but within hours – to conditions more advanced than before the start of negotiations,” Rouhani told a session of parliament broadcast live on state television, as cited by Reuters.
“The world has clearly seen that under Trump, America has ignored international agreements and, in addition to undermining the [nuclear deal], has broken its word on the Paris agreement and the Cuba accord… and that the United States is not a good partner or a reliable negotiator,” he said.
In early August, US President Donald Trump signed into law a bill, passed by the US Congress, which imposes sanctions on Iran, Russia, and North Korea.
Following the decision, prominent libertarian and former Congressman Ron Paul accused Trump of betraying his promises to the American people by seeking a new conflict with either Iran or North Korea, warning the president that any such war will put an end to his term.
“President Trump seems to be impatiently racing toward at least one disastrous war. Maybe two. The big question is who will be first? North Korea or Iran?” Ron Paul wrote in his weekly column published on the site of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity last month.
Trump “seems determined to push a confrontation,” while Iran was actually “in compliance” with the deal, Paul said.
Tehran earlier said the latest round of sanctions violates the landmark 2015 agreement. Iran officially agreed to halt parts of its nuclear program and subject other sectors to increased UN monitoring in exchange for the removal of economic sanctions, in July two years ago when, following months of negotiations, the long-awaited deal was signed between Tehran and major world powers – the US, France, Britain, Russia, and China, plus Germany.
Under the deal, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Tehran also agreed to cap its uranium enrichment below the level needed for bomb-grade material. It also vowed to reduce its enriched uranium stockpile from around 10,000kg to 300kg for 15 years and agreed to international inspections. In response, Western countries agreed to lift sanctions.
“Iran would not be the first to pull out of the nuclear deal, but it will not remain silent about the US repeated violations of the accord. Those who want to tear up the nuclear deal should know that they will be ripping up their own political life,” the Iranian president said earlier this month.
In late July, the US government imposed sanctions against six Iranian companies after Tehran launched a satellite into orbit, saying they were “central” to Iran’s ballistic missile program. Six enterprises listed as subsidiaries of the Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group were placed on the US sanctions list after what Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin described as a “provocative space launch.”
Kaveh Afrasiabi, former adviser to Iran’s nuclear negotiation team, called the latest sanctions ineffective and utile. “Unfortunately, despite the fact the Trump administration has repeatedly certified Iran’s compliance with the nuclear agreement, it continues to take these counterproductive steps that threaten the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and elicit an Iranian response, as we have seen by the Iranian Parliament sanctioning some American entities, and Iran for a fifth time complaining to the JCPOA joint commission.”
On July 27, Iran successfully tested the Simorgh rocket, a two-stage vehicle meant to deliver small space satellites into orbit. The US government said the technology used in the launch is inherently designed to to carry a nuclear payload, in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
Tehran denied its missile development breaches the resolution, saying its missiles are not designed to carry nuclear weapons.

DUBAI (Reuters) – Iran could abandon its nuclear agreement with world powers “within hours” if the United States imposes any more new sanctions, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday.
“If America wants to go back to the experience (of imposing sanctions), Iran would certainly return in a short time — not a week or a month but within hours — to conditions more advanced than before the start of negotiations,” Rouhani told a session of parliament broadcast live on state television.
Iran says new sanctions that the United States has imposed on it breach the agreement it reached in 2015 with the United States, Russia, China and three European powers in which it agreed to curb its nuclear work in return for the lifting of most sanctions.
The U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on six Iranian firms in late July for their role in the development of a ballistic missile program after Tehran launched a rocket capable of putting a satellite into orbit.
In early August, U.S. President Donald Trump signed into law new sanctions on Iran, Russia and North Korea passed by the U.S. Congress. The sanctions in that bill also target Iran‘s missile programs as well as human rights abuses.
The United States imposed unilateral sanctions after saying Iran‘s ballistic missile tests violated a U.N. resolution, which endorsed the nuclear deal and called upon Tehran not to undertake activities related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such technology.
It stopped short of explicitly barring such activity.
Iran denies its missile development breaches the resolution, saying its missiles are not designed to carry nuclear weapons.
“The world has clearly seen that under Trump, America has ignored international agreements and, in addition to undermining the (nuclear deal), has broken its word on the Paris agreement and the Cuba accord…and that the United States is not a good partner or a reliable negotiator,” Rouhani said.
Trump said last week he did not believe that Iran was living up to the spirit of the nuclear deal.
