The amphibious dock landing ship Gunston Hall began making its way back to Virginia this week after heavy seas caused damage last month that forced it to miss NATO’s Trident Juncture exercise in Europe.

The crew reported battered landing craft and well deck barriers after encountering rough waves on the evening of Oct. 22 while sailing the Norwegian Sea. Although some sailors suffered minor injuries, Navy officials said that all were treated and returned to duty.

Sundance’s Hap and Leonard are back for another season of friendship, crime and… the Mambo?

The anthology series picked back up on Wednesday with this season drawing inspiration from the Two-Bear Mambo installment of Joe R. Lansdale’s book series.

The premiere began with Leonard Pine once again burning down the neighborhood crackhouse – on Christmas Eve of all days. The police deem it his “best one yet” as he puts his hands behind his back to be handcuffed.

When Hap and Leonard arrive at the police station, Detective Hanson approaches Hap with the task of finding Florida Grange, a lawyer and Hap’s love interest, who has gone missing. Hap agrees, but only if Leonard is released and can accompany him.

So off they go, to the small town of Grovetown, Ga. Along the ride, Hap and Leonard come across an African-American couple sitting outside their mobile home. Leonard tells them their destination and the couple is shocked. They instantly start questioning Leonard about why he, a black man, would be going to Grovetown. This comes as the guys’ second warning about the evil looming just down the road.

Once they arrive in Grovetown, the pair is spit at and their truck is vandalized. The men quickly accept it is not going to be an easy search in this small, Klu Klux Klan-friendly town.

After all, Detective Charlie Blank (Douglas M. Griffin) did warn them, “Grovetown and black folk don’t mix — and Leonard Pine does not play nice with others.”

The Act was scrapped in Scotland and Ireland, though it remains in Britain’s statutes and is to this day still enforced.

“It’s hard enough being in one of the most vulnerable situations imaginable in this country without them [rough sleepers] feeling like they are being hunted, pushed around and harassed by authorities,” Alex Kumar, who launched the petition, told RT.

According to the Act, police are given powers to arrest and detain for up to three months anyone found “lodging in any barn or outhouse, or in any deserted or unoccupied building, or in the open air, or under a tent, or in any cart or waggon, not having any visible means of subsistence.”

A Freedom of Information (FOI) request revealed that in England and Wales, between 2016 and ‘17, there were 1,810 prosecutions under the Act, and as recently as 2015, the number was more than 3,000, the New Statesman reports.

Kumar – whose petition has garnered 14,000 signatures – said the anachronistic law, which faced criticism when it was passed in the 19th century, is just “ridiculous” in modern times. The campaigner added that authorities should acknowledge that homelessness is not a “criminal issue,” but a “humanitarian crisis.”

MPs from across the political spectrum have previously called for relevant sections of the Act to be repealed, including current Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott.

Kumar hit out at the government’s failure to appropriately address the issue with what he deems a “barbaric” piece of legislation, saying: “I think they haven’t really addressed the Vagrancy Act. If there were an open debate on the Act no real case would be made in favour of repealing it.

“I don’t think there is any real argument for keeping it and that is why the government has not engaged in a real debate.”

It comes after the Windsor and Maidenhead Tory council leader Simon Dudley sparked widespread outcry after he suggested removing all homeless off the streets for the royal wedding between Prince Harry and American TV star Meghan Markle later in May.

Kamur said the scandal “wasn’t just the story of one bad man… cleansing the streets of homeless.”

It is in fact the law itself, he claims, that “allows for authorities to move on rough sleepers, harass, arrest and prosecute them.”

He said local authorities are “trying to push the problem” of homelessness out of their jurisdiction, and the “endemic” way of doing so is through the removal of rough sleepers.

Kamur said this is “fitting” with Dudley’s approach.

What is the flu?

The flu, or influenza, is a contagious respiratory infection caused by the influenza virus (not to be confused with Haemophilus influenzae, an opportunistic bacterium that can cause secondary infections following sicknesses, such as the flu). Symptoms of the flu include chills, fever, headache, malaise, running nose, sore throat, coughing, tiredness, and muscle aches.

The presenter, 61, took aim at the former boyband singer, 27, during an interview with him about taking part in Channel 4’s Celebrity Hunted.

McGuiness and his fellow Wanted star Siva Kaneswaran went on the run from professional hunters as part of the show and did quite well compared to the other celebrities on the show.

Co-host Ranvir Singh asked him how they managed to avoid detection: “What were your tricks?”

“We let go of any idea that we were going to look good and we were going to rough it – we got a tent,” McGuiness explained.

However, Madeley chipped in with an unexpected dig: “What? Like you have this morning?”

The pop star looked stunned by the comment but hit back: “Dude, don’t even get me started on your caramel highlights!”

His quip sent the presenters into stitches as Madeley stepped in to defend himself: “It’s a bit of sunshine. Everybody’s saying that – honestly, everyone thinks I’ve been the salon. I was just in France for a month.”

“God given, blessed,” joked McGuiness as Madeley said that comeback was “good”.

Talk turned to Strictly Come Dancing which McGuiness won in 2015 with professional Aliona Vilani.

Madeley made something of a blunder as he administered a backhanded compliment, telling him: “You’re not at all conceited at all.”

The musician didn’t look impressed and said: “Thanks.”

But the ITV star continued: “But at some point did you know that you would get to the final? Looking at the opposition, looking at your own performance and the votes you were getting, did you think ‘I might do this’.”

McGuiness explained: “That’s really hard because you live in a bubble where you’e reinforced by Wanted fans saying you’ve done amazing. But you don’t know how you come across.”

Stocks climbed over the course of the day after starting in the red.

Markets opened Tuesday down following North Korea’s latest missile launch, in which the country fired a missile over Japan early Tuesday morning local time.

All three major indices finished slightly up by day’s end.

First up, the scoreboard:

1. The dollar tumbled to its lowest level since January 2015, extending losses that began last week as traders turned to safe-haven assets. The index has now fallen by over 10% since US President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

2. US-China relations could see a “real deterioration” after North Korea’s missile launch. “Because the military options won’t be recommended by [Defense Secretary James] Mattis and the generals, near term Trump’s clearest options are to up the pressure on China — something he’s been intent on doing anyway,” Ian Bremmer, president of Eurasia Group, told Business Insider.

3. Best Buy tumbled after the CEO said strong sales are not a “new normal.” Best Buy Co Inc, the No.1 U.S. electronics retailer, reported better-than-expected quarterly earnings and sales on Tuesday, helped by strong demand for smartphones, connected home, and wearable devices.

4. Finish Line crashed after slashing its forecast for profits. Finish Line Inc said on Monday its board adopted a shareholder rights plan and cut its adjusted profit forecast for fiscal 2018. The news plunged its shares by as much as 31% in premarket trading Tuesday. Nike and Under Armour dropped after the news, as well.

5. Bitcoin hit a record high above $ 4,600. Bitcoin has been on a tear since it split in two on August 1, resulting in the creation of bitcoin cash. Since the split, investors have gotten more confident in the stability and scalability of the digital currency. Its price has more than doubled since August 1, and it is up over 350% year-to-date.
