“My wonderfully talented co-hosts Susie Dent and Rachel Riley but above all, the quirky genius of producer Damian Eadie, who never ceases to amuse and who always demands the best of us.

“And a sincere thanks to our loyal viewers and of course the legions of contestants who battle their brains out for the chance of carrying off the Richard Whiteley Trophy or a priceless teapot.

“And so, to whoever takes my seat, I wish you every success and hope that you have as much fun and reward as I’ve enjoyed.”

Cliff Robinson, Former NBA All-Star and Survivor Contestant, Dead at 53 https://briefnews.eu/cliff-robinson-former-nba-all-star-and-survivor-contestant-dead-at-53/ https://briefnews.eu/cliff-robinson-former-nba-all-star-and-survivor-contestant-dead-at-53/#respond Sat, 29 Aug 2020 18:00:41 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/cliff-robinson-former-nba-all-star-and-survivor-contestant-dead-at-53/

Cliff Robinson, the former Portland Trail Blazers all-star forward-turned-reality TV star, has died at the age of 53.

The basketball player’s death was announced by his alma mater, the University of Connecticut, on Twitter Saturday: “The UConn Basketball family mourns the loss of a legendary player and person, Clifford Robinson. Our thoughts and prayers are with Cliff’s family at this difficult time. Rest In Peace, Cliff.”

No further details were immediately released.

“He was our first great player,” former UConn Huskies coach Jim Calhoun told David Borges of Hearst Connecticut Media. “He came from a difficult background in Buffalo; I watched him evolve as a man. … He was a good man, had a great career, and was instrumental in a lot of the great things that happened at UConn.”

Robinson was a major contributor to the Huskies throughout his last three collegiate seasons, averaging 20 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks as a senior. In the 1989 draft, he was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers as a second round pick. He was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year for the 1992-93 season before playing in his first and only all-star game in 1994.

Robinson played for the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors and New Jersey Nets before retiring from the sport in 2007.

Robinson is also known for his appearance on Survivor: Cagayan, the series’ 28th season. The Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty theme landed him on the Brawn tribe, where he attempted to hide his identity but was soon recognized by tribemate Woo Hwang. Robinson’s towering presence eventually became a liability, and he became the fifth castaway voted off the show.

Emmerdale spoilers: Nate Robinson isn’t Cain’s son as truth exposed in family rift twist? https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-nate-robinson-isnt-cains-son-as-truth-exposed-in-family-rift-twist/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-nate-robinson-isnt-cains-son-as-truth-exposed-in-family-rift-twist/#respond Thu, 24 Oct 2019 17:38:29 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-nate-robinson-isnt-cains-son-as-truth-exposed-in-family-rift-twist/

A third added: “I think Nate is under the believe he’s Cain son, Cain’s reaction was very telling. I think Nathan is key to this.”

There is also a Nathaniel Dingle who is also an unseen character and he emigrated to Australia to start the Australian chain of Dingles.

Following this, a rivalry between the British and Australian Dingles has raged on ever since Nathaniel claimed he was falsely set up by his brother Ebeneezer Dingle.

During last night’s episode, Moira managed to rescue Nate from the freezing lake, but it was Cain’s behaviour which raised suspicions.

After surviving the explosion, Cain raced off in his car with a determined expression, was he going to go and see his mother Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) to try and get answers?

Emmerdale spoilers: Cain Dingle knew Nate Robinson was his son – Here’s the evidence https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-cain-dingle-knew-nate-robinson-was-his-son-heres-the-evidence/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-cain-dingle-knew-nate-robinson-was-his-son-heres-the-evidence/#respond Wed, 23 Oct 2019 16:11:19 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-cain-dingle-knew-nate-robinson-was-his-son-heres-the-evidence/

Several of the males within the iconic Dingle family were given biblical names.

Current characters include Zak or Zachariah Dingle (Steve Halliwell), Noah Dingle (Jack Downham), Samson Dingle (Sam Hall), Moses Dingle (Arthur Cockroft) and then Cain.

Therefore, Nate or Nathaniel or Nathanael, depending on the spelling fits, right in with the family tradition.

Alongside this, there is the question of why Nate was so interested in Kyle Dingle?

BBC Radio 4 Today: STAGGERING salaries of John Humphrys and Nick Robinson revealed https://briefnews.eu/bbc-radio-4-today-staggering-salaries-of-john-humphrys-and-nick-robinson-revealed/ https://briefnews.eu/bbc-radio-4-today-staggering-salaries-of-john-humphrys-and-nick-robinson-revealed/#respond Wed, 03 Jul 2019 02:04:15 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bbc-radio-4-today-staggering-salaries-of-john-humphrys-and-nick-robinson-revealed/

The BBC has been slammed today after the organisation released a list revealing its highest-paid presenters. While Gary Lineker remains the top earner on an eye-watering £1.75million a year, there was an increase in the number of BBC stars on £150,000 or more. Radio 4  Today Programme hosts John Humphrys and Nick Robinson are among the corporation’s biggest earners.

The BBC salaries bill wet up from £19.77million to £21.77million in the last financial year.

This increase was criticised by some, as it comes just weeks after the move to stop free TV licences for over 75s was announced.

BBC director general Tony Hall confirmed the total talent bill had risen by £10million but argued it was a smaller proportion of total programming costs.

He wrote in a blog: “They would earn significantly more elsewhere – and recent departures to commercial rivals show this argument isn’t hollow.

“The simple truth is we have spent more than ever on content, but the amount we have spent proportionally on talent has come down.

“But more importantly, whenever we ask the public whether they want big stars on the BBC they say yes.

“They say yes because they are talented and entertaining.

“They also say yes as it means they are getting big value from the BBC.”

These are the top 10 highest BBC earners of 2019:

1. Gary Lineker – £1,750,000-£1,759,999

2. Chris Evans – £1,660,000-£1,669,999

BBC Radio 4 Today Programme presenters

Outrage over the BBC gender pay gap after the salary list was announced last year prompted John Humphrys to take a pay cut.

The Today Programme presenter now earns around the £400,000-£409,999 mark.

Mr Humphrys is the second highest earning BBC current affairs present after Huw Edwards who earns £520,000 – £529,999.

Mr Humphrys’s Today Programme colleague Nick Robinson earns £250,000 – £259,999.

Mr Robinson earns the same as Evan Davis and both are among the highest-paid current affairs presenters at the BBC.

Emmerdale spoilers: Nate Robinson and Cain Dingle’s past history exposed after Moira clue? https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-nate-robinson-and-cain-dingles-past-history-exposed-after-moira-clue/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-nate-robinson-and-cain-dingles-past-history-exposed-after-moira-clue/#respond Sat, 22 Jun 2019 07:18:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-nate-robinson-and-cain-dingles-past-history-exposed-after-moira-clue/

Nate (played by Jurell Carter) has been making waves all around Emmerdale village in recent episodes, particularly with the women.

Beginning to reveal himself to be a major womaniser, the farmer has already had a major run-in with Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh), Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) and Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson).

It turned out not only was he on a date with Amy barely a day after sleeping with Tracy, but there is also some serious history with Amy’s mother too.

Kerry convinced Nate to keep quiet about their rendezvous – which probably took place after the Big Night Out episodes – and Amy later forgave his indiscretions.

The pair were just starting to get close as Amy was keen to take things further, but Nate took a U-turn and insisted he wanted them to take things slow.

When he later had a moment with Cain’s (Jeff Hordley) wife Moira (Natalie J. Robb) however, the lingering chemistry prompted a very different response and Nate raced to see Amy for a night of passion instead.

While it was clear the farmer had developed feelings for his boss, and that alone would make him and Cain enemies, there could be a very different reason for his attraction.

What if Nate is putting on an act to get Moira on his side simply to get revenge against Cain?

Have the pair met before? Or is Nate related to someone Cain has used and abused in the past?

Viewers are convinced there’s more to the duo’s animosity than they’re letting on, so they’ll simply have to wait for the truth to be revealed.

Sharing their guesses on Twitter, fans were eager to see the outcome.

One person mused: “So I’m thinking that Nate is genuinely interested in Amy.

“But he has some vendetta against Cain which is why he’ll deliberately try and come between him and Moira.

“That affair will be lust on her part but a ploy by Nate.”

“By the looks of things, Cain has another son in the form of Nate by the way he’s acting towards him, another guessed.

A third said: “Whatever Nate’s connection to Cain is, it must be bad.”

And a fourth speculated: “Nate is really upset with Cain, I’m guessing Nate thinks Cain is his dad lol.”

”Why does Nate hate Cain so much? Has it got anything to do with them being family?” A fifth fan then wondered.

Whatever the case, when Cain discovers how close Nate and Moira have been getting on the ITV soap, it’ll probably be game over.

Emmerdale continues Monday at 7pm on ITV.

Neighbours spoilers: ‘Some regret’ Paul Robinson star speaks out on Sonya Rebecchi exit https://briefnews.eu/neighbours-spoilers-some-regret-paul-robinson-star-speaks-out-on-sonya-rebecchi-exit/ https://briefnews.eu/neighbours-spoilers-some-regret-paul-robinson-star-speaks-out-on-sonya-rebecchi-exit/#respond Fri, 21 Jun 2019 22:49:33 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/neighbours-spoilers-some-regret-paul-robinson-star-speaks-out-on-sonya-rebecchi-exit/

Sonya Rebecchi (Eve Morey) passed away earlier this year in a heartbreaking storyline that saw her lose her battle with cancer.

However Neighbours star Eve did not choose to leave the soap when she was written out and the soap bosses’ decision to axe her was met with controversy.

Now Paul Robinson star Stefan Dennis has spoken out and hinted that producers may regret their decision after Eve was nominated for two Logie Awards.

Since leaving the show Eve has been nominated for Most Popular Actress and the prestigious Gold Logie.

Discussing the controversial decision, he said: “I think in hindsight, they’re now going, ‘Oops!”

“There is possibly some regret among the powers that be with regard to the decision, especially as Eve is shortlisted for the Gold Logie which is a public vote.

“It was a big shock to the cast and took us a long time to get over – myself, Ryan Moloney, Alan Fletcher, and Jackie Woodburne marched to the office and said, “‘You cant’t do this’.

“They explained it was out of their hands.”

Although she will be unable to return to Neighbours on the screen Dennis did add that the Eve star is now working behind-the-scenes.

He continued: “Eve will not be forgotten, and the lovely thing is, she’s an acting coach on the show now, so we still get to see her and she’s doing what she’s very good at, which is mentoring people.”

Co-host Michael Ball jumped in and asked: “Are you still technically married to Charlene?”

Jason continued: “I think we still live in Brisbane and I think the last time I was on this show I met as a character my daughter in fact who was playing Scott and Charlene’s daughter.”

Praising the show, he added: “Look, what an incredible institution, Neighbours has been a wonderful launching pad for many careers.

“Not just actors, but producers, people that work behind the camera, operators, directors, the whole lot. I’m really proud of that legacy.”

Could Jason make a dramatic return to the Australian soap and rock the lives of those on Ramsay Street?

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.

Emmerdale spoilers: Rhona Goskirk for shock romance with newcomer Nate Robinson?  https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-rhona-goskirk-for-shock-romance-with-newcomer-nate-robinson/ https://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-rhona-goskirk-for-shock-romance-with-newcomer-nate-robinson/#respond Thu, 09 May 2019 15:33:02 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/emmerdale-spoilers-rhona-goskirk-for-shock-romance-with-newcomer-nate-robinson/

Emmerdale viewers saw Nate Robinson (played by Jurell Carter) arrive in the village last week and take up the farmhand position at Butler’s farm.

He was first seen in the soap a couple of weeks ago when he kissed Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) in the club during the Big Night Out episode.

More recently, scenes saw him involved in an awkward run in in the Woolpack with Rhona, where he told Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) about their rendezvous on the dance floor.

Nevertheless, it seems Nate is going to be sticking around for a while and the actor who plays him has spoken out about how his appearance is going to impact the other villagers.

During a conversation with The Mirror, he revealed whether or not a future romance with the vet was on the cards.

He said: “No, because I think for me, Nate is a very loyal character. I think if he knew she [Rhona] was already taken for, he wouldn’t have gone there.

“So I think knowing that she’s in a relationship calls if off straight away. I don’t think he would pursue it, no.”

As for whether or not he will be involved with anyone, Jurell teased his character being linked with an alternative older woman.

“There’s a few women, he definitely does like the ladies,” the actor explained.

“For me, he likes the older ladies but he likes the ones around his aged as well, so I don’t think he’s just for older women. So everyone!”

Whether or not Rhona and Pete can move past her brief infidelity, viewers will have to tune in to tonight’s episode to see the next development.

Meanwhile, there is the suggestion that Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) could go head to head with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).

It comes after Will arrived in the Dales last month with the hope of tormenting Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton).

But with daughter Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) working with him, there is the chance her conscience will get the better of her and she will reveal what has been going on to the vicar.

Therefore, Harriet could confide in ex-Cain and he could make it his duty to make Will pay for what he’s put her through.

Elsewhere in the village, Victoria Sugden (Isobel Hodgins) is still struggling to come to terms with the sexual assault she experienced.

Last night, in extremely difficult scenes, Victoria’s flashback aired and viewers saw Lee (Kris Mochrie) attack and rape her.

Following the traumatic ordeal, she has been hiding away in her house, that is until Moira Barton (Natalie J. Robb) bursts in.

Official soap spoilers have revealed how the farm owner will get Victoria to open up to her, but will she be able to convince her to go to the police?

If you or anyone you know has been affected by Victoria’s storyline, please contact rape crisis on 0808 802 9999 or visit the website here.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV.

Neighbours spoilers: Paul Robinson star hints at another MAJOR comeback https://briefnews.eu/neighbours-spoilers-paul-robinson-star-hints-at-another-major-comeback/ https://briefnews.eu/neighbours-spoilers-paul-robinson-star-hints-at-another-major-comeback/#respond Wed, 05 Dec 2018 15:21:55 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/neighbours-spoilers-paul-robinson-star-hints-at-another-major-comeback/

Paul (played by Stefan Dennis) has recently reunited with Jane Harris (Annie Jones) as the character made a return to earlier this year.

As the only original character remaining on the soap, Paul will also get another shock when his father Jim Robinson (Alan Dale) makes a return from the dead over the coming weeks.

However, it seems the iconic character could get another huge surprise when Mike Young (Guy Pearce) makes a comeback to Erinsborough.

Appearing on ITV’s earlier today, Paul actor Stefan Dennis teased Guy Pearce’s return when questioned by the panel.

Guy played Mike from 1986-1989, appearing in 496 episodes of the Australian soap and having a relationship with Jane, whom Paul is now romantically involved with.

Mike was also friends with Paul’s brother Scott Robinson (Jason Donavan) and Charlene Mitchell (Kylie Minogue).

Could Paul come to blows with Mike if he were to return in a fight for Jane?

Appearing on Loose Women alongside Jane actress Annie Jones, Stefan told the panel, “Never say never,” when asked if Guy would be making a reappearance.

Away from the screen, Stefan revealed he had been trying to meet up with Guy during his visit to London as the actor is based in Britain.

During the chat with the panel, Annie spoke about her return to the Channel 5 soap after taking a 29-year break from the show.

“It’s like walking hm,” the actress admitted before revealing the real reason she had not returned before this year.

“Well the possibility has always been there but I’ve been looking after my mother who had Alzheimers for many years.

“I was craving something long-term,” she told the panel when asked what gave her the push to talk on her iconic character.

“It’s crazy because back in the day we were the young [ones] and now were the oldies,” the actress joked.

Jane also admitted she had originally auditioned for the role of Charlene, but didn’t get the part: “I guess I just wasn’t right for Charlene.”

As the drama steps up over the festive period, it seems one Ramsay Street resident could be bidding farewell to the soap.

Posting a video on Instagram, Dipi Rebechhi actress Sharon Johal seemed to be with her fellow cast-members at a farewell party.

With Sonya Rebecchi’s (Eve Morey) life in danger from the sinister Alice Wells (Kerry Armstrong) could Eve be bowing out after nine years on the soap?

Viewers don’t seem to be happy with the media reports as one fan wrote on Twitter: “After all Toadie and her have been through up till now Sonya can’t die. Nell and Callum would be heartbroken as well.”

Another added: “If they kill Sonya off I will take to the streets. An outrage #neighbours.”

In Rosa, which starts tonight at 6.55pm on BBC One, The Doctor, Ryan Sinclair (Tosin Cole), Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill) and Graham O’Brien (Bradley Walsh) meet the civil rights legend in her early life when she is a seamstress in Alabama.
