Emmerdale fans saw the return of several Tate family members in the last few years with Kim Tate (played by Claire King) even settling back into Home Farm. But does this mean the soap writers are looking into other iconic families to make a comeback? With Emmerdale now on screens for half the time is usually is, fans have been enjoying iconic episodes of the Northern soap. And in a recent re-run, Nick (played by Cy Chadwick) and Kathy Bates (Malandra Burrows) were seen on screen. Following their appearance, viewers were took to the online forum Reddit to discuss the possibility of the Bates family returning. ToqKaizogou posted a month ago: “Through watching the Classic reshowings, the Bates family (or more specifically the Bates siblings or Kathy and Nick) have become some of my favourite characters. READ MORE: Emmerdale spoilers: Moira Barton and Rhona romance ‘revealed’ “You really root for them to be happy despite them constantly suffering through shit after s**t after s**t (especially Kathy). “Even if they can’t convince Malandra Burrows or Cy Chadwick to return, they should still bring back/bring in their kids,” the post continued. “They could have Alice and/or Kathy’s daughter arrive in the village. “Emmerdale’s already been bringing back kid characters from the past with bigger roles as adults with Joe and Jamie, so why not bring back Alice or Kathy’s daughter too? Take Nick, he was serving a prison sentence for manslaughter after accidentally shooting Jed Connell with his own rifle, but was apparently released in 2006 after ten years. He has one child, Alice Bates (Kimberley Hewitt until 1994 and then Rachel Tolboys) whom he sent to live with her aunt, and his sister Kathy in Australia following his sentencing. Meanwhile, fans will remember how Kathy had quite an illustrious life in Emmerdale, having married Jackie Merrick (Ian Sharrock) and Chris Tate (Peter Amory) – who also married Kim. She also dated Dave Glover (Ian Kelsey) but that soon ended when he was found to be having an affair with Kim, and then Kathy began a relationship with Biff Fowler, whom she was ditched at the altar by in 1999. By 2003, Kathy’s first three husbands had all died, although she had divorced Chris years before he committed suicide. She did however return in 2005 for Seth Armstrong’s funeral, before leaving once again for Down Under. It is now presumed Kathy married again in Australia as her surname at her last appearance was Brookman but the name of her Australian husband and daughter are unknown Since then, she was briefly mentioned in 2015, but could a comeback be on the cards? Or at least for Alice Bates? Emmerdale airs Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 7pm on ITV. Emma Barton is set to strut her stuff on the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor during the BBC launch tonight. Strictly fans will watch all 15 celebrities find out which professional dancers the stars are partners with. The EastEnders star was announced for the line-up alongside former Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley. Speaking to press including Express.co.uk, Emma discussed competing against her soap rival. When asked if there’s a rivalry between the pair, she remarked: “I love her, no not at all. “Not just Cath everyone of us we’re all gushing a little bit, I know that’s not what you want to hear but it’s a lovely group.” Emma has previous dance experience from her West End career and admits this could be an advantage. “I think it probably will [help],” she confessed. “The musicality side of it and the counting. “I’ve never done any of the styles Strictly do before so that is all new I’m more of a jazz hands from my past.” Despite being new to the dances Strictly features, Emma revealed she can’t wait to try ballroom. She said: “The costumes, the music, the elegance, I love that.” Fans of EastEnders who might fear Emma will be taking a back seat on the BBC soap needn’t worry. “I’m still there, still doing the both,” Honey Mitchell star Emma confirmed. “It’s lovely to be across the road, that’s going to be really handy. “They’ve done that a lot over the last few years, EastEnders look after us very well Strictly will as well. “I’m not shy of working hard I was not going to say no to this cause I knew I’d regret it so I just had to.” Meanwhile BBC Breakfast sports presenter Mike Bushell revealed he turned to his colleagues for some advice. He said: “I’ve got a lot of BBC Breakfast colleagues who have already done Strictly and two and of them won, so no pressure there. “Carol Kirkwood and Naga Munchetty who did it said, ‘Please just go and enjoy it, put a smile on your face and don’t worry about it too much.” Strictly Come Dancing starts tonight on BBC One at 7.50pm.

For the longest time, Vimeo was one of YouTube’s most conspicuous alternatives. It was where you posted your indie production if you weren’t a fan of YouTube’s approach and it even created original material in a bid to stand out. The company has always lived in the shadow of its Google-owned rival, however, and now it’s backing away from that obvious rivalry. In an Axios interview, company chief Anjali Sud said Vimeo was shifting away from its emphais on indie filmmaking (not that it’s completely giving that up) and will instead focus on selling a creative tool, Vimeo Stock. It’ll center around access to a large stock video collection, and will offer tools to optimize and post footage across a slew of social networks.
The solution will sound familiar if you’ve ever used a service like Shutterstock, but Vimeo is betting that it can attract stock video creators by giving them a much higher cut of revenue when customers use their footage (at least 60 percent versus the usual 35 percent). Sud also characterized Vimeo as an “agnostic and independent home” where creators could offer their video to various services, rather than a YouTube or Facebook that has a vested interest in locking you in.
You see a lot of this coming. Vimeo has been increasingly centered on creative tools, and its marketing has emphasized pros in recent months (just ask anyone who has seen its endless wave of ads on YouTube). Even so, this move toward stock content marks the end of an era for Vimeo. It’s an acknowledgment not just that YouTube may be difficult to stop, but that video is virtually ubiquitous. People don’t need to go to a site like Vimeo when the videos they want to watch are on Facebook and Twitter, but pros still need places to buy and sell the footage they’ll use inside those videos.

A decade after an infamous NHL line brawl that included both goaltenders dropping the gloves at centre ice, Martin Biron gave Ray Emery a chance to take one final blow.
Emery declined.
A Buffalo radio station held its annual celebrity roast in February 2017, 10 years after Emery got the better of Biron in a line brawl during the midst of a heated Ottawa Senators-Buffalo Sabres rivalry. Biron even sent Emery a text encouraging him to attend, saying the city of Buffalo would love it, but the retired goalie wouldn't budge.
"We reached out to Ray to come to Buffalo and take his shots off the ice and Ray was uncomfortable with that," said Biron. "He was like, 'Oh no I don't want people to hate me, it was just a hockey game. I don't want to speak badly of Buffalo or you.'
"He didn't do it because he didn't want to be perceived as a big-time villain that had his run-ins with off-ice issues," added Biron. "That's not what he wanted to be. It's not who he was and I felt like that was indicative of what type of person he was and I totally respect that."
Emery, who helped the Senators reach the final in 2007 by eliminating Biron's Sabres in the third round of the playoffs and also won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013, drowned in his hometown of Hamilton on Sunday. He was 35.
Hamilton Police said a cause of death would be confirmed after a post-mortem.
Biron, who retired in 2014, was at a charity hockey game in Buffalo when he heard the news.
"I was with a lot of other former players that have crossed paths with Ray and everybody was thinking the same thing, extremely sad," said Biron.
Ottawa and Buffalo were two of the top teams in the NHL in 2007 and had a feud that boiled over during a regular-season game, leading to one of the more memorable moments of Biron's career.
It started when Ottawa's Chris Neil hit Chris Drury with a blindside check that cut open the forehead of the Sabres forward. On the next shift, Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff, who had last change as the home team, sent out enforcers Andrew Peters and Adam Mair along with rookie and soon-to-be known agitator Patrick Kaleta.
Ottawa's coach, the late Bryan Murray, had the scoring line of Jason Spezza, Dany Heatley and Mike Comrie on the ice, so when play resumed and the gloves came off, Emery prepared to get involved. He met Biron for what turned into a one-sided tilt in Emery's favour. Then he took on Peters, smiling and laughing during the entire spectacle while holding his own against the Sabres forward.
"I knew fisticuffs were gonna happen, so as soon as the puck dropped I just started to skate and Ray skated to meet me and when he pulled his mask off he had that smile on his face like I was chopped liver," said the 40-year-old Biron. "He was gonna beat me up with one hand behind his back and that's basically what happened.
"For us in Buffalo, one of the most memorable games in the franchise's history, or at least this generation of Sabres fans, was the brawl. It was a crazy game."
The rivalry eventually faded and both goalies soon moved to new teams. Emery played a year in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League before spending time with Philadelphia, Anaheim and Chicago, with his final stop in Germany for part of the 2015-16 season.
Many members in the hockey communityexpressed their condolences on social media when Emery's death was confirmed. Biron was amongst the group.
"He was a respected teammate and a respected opponent," said Biron.
"When I think of Ray, I think of a really big competitor."

Last night’s instalment of EastEnders saw the pair reconcile following the events of recent weeks, but it won’t be for long.
When Kat’s (played by Jessie Wallace) neighbours thought she had died and threw a big fundraiser for her funeral, they weren’t very happy when she turned up in the flesh and a big brawl broke out in the Queen Vic after she was confronted by newcomer Karen (Lorraine Stanley).
It looked as though they had buried the hatchet when Kat turned up at the laundrette asking Karen for a favour.
They bonded as Karen expressed empathy about her situations, as she had also been shunned by the Square when she first arrived on the scene.
However, new spoiler photos released by the BBC soap shows that peace between the two won’t last.
The Slaters set up their own cleaning business and Karen isn’t best pleased.
The mother-of-six accuses Kat of poaching her customers, leading to an epic fight in the laundrette.
It doesn’t take long for the pair to start launching insults and clothes at each other, as Keegan (Zack Morris) looks on at the carnage.
Monday’s instalment saw Kat propose the new business venture as a means for her family to climb out of their debt.
Kat’s death hoax was all part of Big Mo Harris’ (Laila Morse) scheme to come up with the cash for the £5,000 debt she owed to a mysterious man in Birmingham.
Pressure mounted when his daughter, Annie Pritchard (Martha Howe-Douglas), turned up in Walford to threaten Mo.
Salvation came in a likely form as Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) coughed up the cash by donating her life savings to get Mo out of trouble.
While Mo was set on leaving the Square again, Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) refused to let her leave until she paid the money back.
Although, it looks as if they will hit a speed bump when Karen tries to put a stop to their plan.
It appears as though Kat and Karen aren’t the only pair with an intense rivalry, as yesterday’s episode saw Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean) and Mel Owen (Tamzin Outhwaite) have an almighty fall-out.
Mel was unimpressed that her son Hunter (Charlie Winters) had been invited round for dinner and tensions rose when Sharon drunkenly started hurling insults.
The atmosphere got incredibly awkward when Sharon insisted on bringing up Mel’s failed relationships, but then things took a serious turn.
Sharon caused a huge stir by telling Hunter it was Phil (Steve McFadden) who had killed his father, Steve Owen (Martin Kemp).
However, it didn’t end well for Sharon when Mel threw a jug of cream all over her before storming out.
EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
