A self-described “public activist” in Russia has taken a stand against patriarchal sitting habits, appearing in a video that she claims shows “manspreading” metro passengers being punished with bottles of bleach-laced water.

Anna Dovgalyuk, who previously gained notoriety for fighting upskirting by flashing her underwear, has now felt it necessary to take a stand against men who spread their legs when they sit. A woman of action, Ms. Dovgalyuk says she mixed 30 liters of water with 6 liters of bleach, then poured the patriarchy-cleansing cocktail on the crotches of various “manspreading” strangers just minding their own business on the St. Petersburg metro.

The idea is to leave a permanent mark on the manspreaders’ clothes, “so that everyone can immediately understand which body part controls the behavior of these men.” Now it all makes sense.

Since it’s not public activism unless it’s on Youtube, the stunt was captured on video and posted on her channel. Whether real or staged, the video has received some pretty unfavorable reviews – to put it mildly. As of early Wednesday, it had over 600,000 views with 1,400 likes and over 29,000 dislikes.

“Bleach can cause burns,” one astute netizen pointed out in the comments section. “I would have taken this [young lady] by the scruff and dragged her to the police.” Another pointed out that the permanent damage Dovgalyuk could have caused to the men’s clothes and whatever they had in their pockets is a criminal offense. Ironically, Dovgalyuk is a law student herself.

“The stupidest manifesto I’ve ever seen,” another commenter noted. “Are all feminists engaged in such rubbish? It would be better to do something useful for society.” Feminist or not, a few commenters suggested that Anna managed to get away with her antics and not get hurt precisely because she is a woman.

Some users put forward the novel idea of talking to manspreaders and asking them to stop. But would that count as public activism?
Now that she’s put St. Petesburg’s machos in their place, Dovgalyuk says she will be bringing her righteous bleaching campaign to Moscow and Kazan next.

Manspreading on the subway is, in fact, an issue contentious enough to have provoked an entire campaign over in the US, with its epicenter in New York, involving celebrity activists and ads on trains.

Deliveroo has taken leaf out of Just Eat’s book and will allow partner restaurants to use their own riders. That means it can now team up with establishments that have their own fleet. The British food delivery app will launch a new service called “Marketplace+” in July — its partners can then use it to gain access to Deliveroo’s 15,000 riders in the UK to boost their own network. That will give them a chance to keep up with orders during peak periods and offer deliveries to locations they couldn’t cover before.

Deliveroo co-founder and CEO Will Shu said in a statement: “Traditionally we’ve been unable to work with those restaurants… because they already have their own delivery fleet and so they thought ‘well we don’t really need Deliveroo.’ We’re changing the game. We’re enabling these restaurants to tap into our delivery fleet.”

Deliveroo expects to add 5,000 establishments to its current list of 10,000 partners by the end of the year thanks to this new rule. It certainly has the potential to make make Deliveroo bigger than it already is and could help it reach its expansion goals: it’s planning to make its way to 50 new towns and cities in order to reach 6 million customers in the UK this year.

Skeleton is one of the most high-octane events at the Winter Olympics.

Starting with a dead sprint and a dive, athletes rocket down the mountain at speeds up to 90 miles per hour just inches from the ice as they chase Olympic glory.

But in addition to being some of the most death-defying action you can find in the sporting world, skeleton also features some of the coolest fashion you’ll find this side of the figure skating rink.

Athletes adorn their helmets with jaw-dropping designs that celebrate their country, competitive spirit, and yes even their favorite movies, resulting in amazing images as they race towards the finish line.

Below you can take a look at some of the best helmets skeleton riders have brought to Pyeongchang 2018 thus far.

Akwasi Frimpong of Ghana

Akwasi Frimpong is the only athlete representing Ghana at the 2018 Winter Olympics. His helmet depicts a rabbit escaping the clutches of a lion — a metaphor he has used to describe his life.

Kevin Boyer is representing Canada in his first Olympics and has been attempting to raise funds to help support his Olympic journey through a crowd-funding campaign. He sports a helmet featuring a Haida-inspired beaver design.

Sungbin Yun of South Korea is the favorite to win the men’s skeleton event and bring home gold for the host nation. He’s also a big fan of Iron Man — so much so that he’s turn himself into a Tony Stark of sorts as he shoots down the ice.

Google announced today in a blog post that Google Maps can now give step-by-step instructions to public transportation riders getting around on the bus and train. This is for the Android version of the app. To keep you on track toward your destination, navigation instructions — including bus and train transfers — now appear in push notifications that appear on smartphone lockscreens along with expected time of arrival (ETA) and the number of stops before it’s time to hop off.

While Maps has been able to tell you about bus nearby bus lines for some time now, step-by-step navigation by bus or train is new, and this comes after such navigation was made available for drivers, walkers, and bike riders.

The addition of detailed navigation for public transportation riders is welcome news for a lot of people. According to the American Public Transportation Association, 35 million Americans commute the work on the bus or train every weekday.

Google has added a handful of new features this year to cater to commuters who get around with the bus and train. In February, Google Maps for Android made real-time transit information and ETAs available for bus and train riders.

Custom updates for commuters were also introduced so Google Maps can deliver commute instructions and delay times for people who walk, drive, take the bus and train, ride a motorcycle, or ride a bike to and from work.

The 2017 BPL season has reached its climax with Dhaka Dynamites battling against Rangpur Riders in the final.

The Dynamited beat Comilla Victorians by 95 runs to book their place while the Riders saw off the Khulna Titans before also beating the Victorians to seal their spot.

Gazi TV (GTV) is the official broadcaster of the BPL. They bought three years broadcasting rights for 640 crores (US$ 82 million).

Sony Pictures Network will broadcast live coverage of the BPL in India with all matches streamed live on SonyLIV – and on their website and app.

In England, FreeSports has bagged exclusive UK rights for the Bangladesh Premier League, FreeSports available on Freeview, Freesat, BT and TalkTalk.

It is available on 424 on Sky Sports. 

This means that all the action can be followed on your desktop or laptop via the Sky Go app, which if you’re an existing customer, is also available on iOS and Android smartphone and tablet devices.

Sky Go is also available on a number of platforms including Amazon Fire devices, iPad, Mac computers and laptops, Playstation 3, PS4 and Xbox One.

The Sky Sports app, available to download on iOS and Android devices, will also be providing live text coverage and updates.

If you’re not currently a Sky Sports customer but can’t stand to miss out on the action, you can add the channels to your box via a NOW TV subscription.

Day passes, which let you add SkySports channels for 24 hours, start at £6.99 a day, with a weekly pass starting from £10.99, and no locking in to a contract.

NOW TV doesn’t even require a typical television to use, as it is also available on a NOW TV Box, Chromecast, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Roku, LG Smart TV, PC or Mac, and selected mobile and tablet devices.

In a public statement, Uber has announced that it sustained a massive data breach in 2016: 57 million customers’ and drivers’ names, e-mail addresses, and phone numbers were compromised.

According to Bloomberg, no trip location info, credit card information, or Social Security numbers was taken.

Uber did not respond to Ars’ questions—Matthew Wing, a spokesman, simply pointed us to the company’s blog post.

Most people find a short walk to and from a public transportation stop pretty reasonable, but the further away that stop is from their home or their destination, the less convenient it becomes. Well the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) wants to close that first mile/last mile gap and it’s doing so in partnership with Via.

Via, a ridesharing service that lets users hop on a ride with others who are headed in a similar direction, uses algorithms to find which vehicle makes the most sense given the person’s destination. It currently operates in New York City, Chicago, Washington DC and soon, London.

Starting next summer, Metro riders will be able to book a Via to or from three major Metro stations. The fares will be subsidized by Metro and riders will be able to pay with their TAP account — LA’s public transport fare card. The project and its reduced fare rates are funded by a $ 1.35 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration.

“We’re making our systems more inclusive — because access to public transportation is a right, not a privilege,” LA Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a statement. “Everyone should be able to make a trip on Metro buses and trains, and these funds will help more riders get where they’re going quickly and conveniently.”
