WARNING SPOILERS FOR THE LAST JEDI AHEAD Back in 2015 Abrams’ The Force Awakens set up a number of big questions, including the identity of Rey’s parents. Then came sequel The Last Jedi two years later, with fans expecting an amazing reveal. However not everyone was happy, with Kylo Ren explaining to Rey that her parents were essentially nobodies. Pegg continued: “I think that’s kind of been undone slightly by the last one. “There was some talk about, you know, a kind of relevant lineage for her. “But I honestly don’t know, and I don’t know if anybody knows. We shall see.” Nevertheless Abrams has returned to finish the trilogy by writing and directing Episode IX. If Abrams is unhappy with Johnson’s reveal that Rey’s parents are nobodies, he could just make it that Ren was lying to her to manipulate her. Since the sequel trilogy is tying up the Skywalker saga, it would make much more sense for her to be related to Luke or Leia. Star Wars Episode IX is released on December 20, 2019.

Some Star Wars fans had a problem with Daisy Ridley‘s character Rey using the famed Jedi mind trick in The Force Awakens when her knowledge of the Force seemed so limited. Well, worry no more! The recently released Last Jedi novelization finally provides an explanation for Rey’s mind-trick-mastery.
Late in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey is able to escape from the clutches of Kylo Ren and the First Order thanks to the famous Jedi mind trick. The scene is fairly amusing, with Rey tricking a Stormtrooper (played by Daniel Craig!) into releasing her from Ren’s IKEA-brand torture table. I personally had no problem with how this scene played out. Other people weren’t so happy, however. Many fans felt that it made no sense for Rey to have a grasp on the mind trick so quickly, and they took their complaints to the hallowed halls of the internet, even going so far as to call her a “Mary Sue” because of it.
If you were one of the people annoyed that Rey used the mind trick with ease, the newly released Star Wars: The Last Jedi novelization is here to calm your nerves. In the book, written by Jason Fry with input from Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, a rather logical answer explanation is offered for the Force Awakens mind trick scene. Here’s the scene in question, in case you need a refresher.
As you may recall, right before Rey employs the trick, Kylo Ren invades her mind in an attempt to extract information. This act is what enables Rey to learn the Jedi mind tricks of the trade, so to speak. As the novel puts it (via ScreenRant), “Even as he [Kylo] callously rifled through her mind, he had somehow revealed his own. Rey found herself in his mind even as he invaded hers.” From there, the book continues:
“Kylo had retreated at finding Rey in his head – had practically fled from her. But that had not been the end of that strange, sudden connection. She had seen more – far more. Somehow, almost instinctually, she knew how he accessed some of the powers at his commend – even though she didn’t understand them. It was as if his training had become hers, unlocking and flinging open door after door in her mind.”
There you have it. As Ren was reading Rey’s mind, Rey was reading his – and inadvertently learned about the Jedi mind trick as a result. I honestly feel like we could’ve surmised this ourselves just from the way the scene in The Force Awakens plays out, but I also recognize that some fans really wanted a specific answer. And now the answer is here! We can all stop talking about this now, right?

The marketing for Star Wars: The Last Jedi did a pretty good job teasing that Daisy Ridley‘s Rey might turn to the Dark Side. Now, a new The Last Jedi featurette from the upcoming Blu-ray release further explores Rey’s internal Dark Side struggle in the film.
Spoiler alert: Rey doesn’t turn to the Dark Side in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Trailers did a fairly good job of trying to trick audiences into thinking the new Star Wars heroine would flip from Light to Dark, with Kylo Ren possibly turning good in the end. That’s not what happened: Kylo embraced the Dark Side even more, and Rey began to accept her fate as the heir apparent to Luke Skywalker.
A new Last Jedi featurette, which will appear on the upcoming Blu-ray release this month, goes into Rey’s struggle. Watch it below.
It’s worth noting that this is clearly only part of the featurette. About 50 seconds worth. The Blu-ray release will have a longer version of this, but if you can’t wait until then, this is a nice little teaser. The full featurette will “explore the mythology of the Force and why Rian Johnson chose to interpret its role in such a unique way.”
At the start of the clip begins, Ridley says that what she loves about the character of Rey is that she tries to see the good in people. Rian Johnson then speaks (briefly) about the pull of the Dark Side, which he calls “the easy path.”
And that’s it! The end!
If you want more, you’ll have to grab the Blu-ray release when it arrives March 27. Or, if you’re impatient, you can get your hands on a digital copy March 13. A full list of features is below.

WARNING SPOILERS FOR THE LAST JEDI AHEAD
Following the release of The Force Awakens in 2015, there were two years of Star Wars fans speculating over just who Rey’s parents are.
Then over Christmas The Last Jedi was released and Kylo Ren revealed to Rey that her mum and dad were in fact nobodies.
The news left some fans angry, as they were hoping she would be a Skywalker.
However, Johnson, who wrote and directed The Last Jedi has confirmed Kylo Ren’s claim may not be the final say on Rey’s parents.
Speaking with the Huffington Post, Johnson said: “Anything’s still open, and I’m not writing the next film. [J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio] are doing it.”
This makes sense seeing as Johnson wrote The Last Jedi while Abrams was filming The Force Awakens.
Fans might expect Disney and Lucasfilm to have a narrative plan for the whole trilogy, but actually Johnson was given freedom to do as he pleased with where Abrams got to.
The result was a very different and bold movie compared to The Force Awakens – for better or worse, fans are polarised – but could Abrams change what Johnson revealed in Episode IX?
GEORGE LUCAS ADMITS HE WENT ‘TOO FAR’ WITH THE PHANTOM MENACE
For example, Kylo Ren could be lying, if Abrams and his co-writer decide to go that route.
Perhaps they’ll even resurrect Snoke somehow, following the big fan backlash.
Star Wars Episode IX will be released in UK cinemas on December 20, 2019.
WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD
After two years of waiting, Star Wars fans were set to find out who Rey’s parents were.
Much speculation suggested she was probably a Skywalker, being the lead of the third trilogy and having a connection to a lightsaber once wielded by Anakin and Luke.
However in The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren revealed her parents were nobodies and had no significance, something that angered many Star Wars fans as anti-climactic.
Now director and writer Johnson has defended his decision on Rey’s parents.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, he said: “For me, it was a dramatic choice. It was just that her hearing – and also for the audience hearing that… if the answer had been, that’s presented in this movie at least, in this context.
“If the answer presented to her was, ‘Your parents are so-and-so, here you go, here’s your place in this story.’ That would be the easiest thing for her to hear. And easiest thing for us to hear! Wish fulfilment.
“It’s like, ‘Oh, great! That’s who I am. That’s that.’ The hardest thing she could hear is, ‘No, you’re not going to get that answer, that definition.’
“In fact, the fact that you don’t have that is going to be used against you by Kylo, to try and make you lean on him.”
Johnson added: “You’re going to have to find the strength to define yourself and stand on your own two feet.”
Of course he could just be having us all on and Rey will revealed as a Skywalker in Episode IX.
Star Wars The Last Jedi is out now.
Back in the Ye Olde Tymes of Star Wars, fans could pick and choose how deep they wanted to go. Stop at the movies? That’s okay. Indulge in the novels and comics and video games? Go for it! That’s getting trickier these days now that Lucasfilm is maintaining a more unified canon, layering background information across television and publishing about characters and worlds and events seen on the big screen.
And don’t forget about electronic gaming. We knew that the single player version of Star Wars Battlefront II would tell a canonical story set in the immediate aftermath of Return of the Jedi, but does it also answer the biggest question hanging over the new movies? Does it reveal Rey’s parents?
Naturally, big spoilers for the video game begin right here, so if you plan to play it, click away.
Yahoo Movies has the details and they certainly seem to suggest that something is up. Here’s the short version.
In Star Wars Battlefront II, players take control of an Imperial commando named Iden Versio, the leader of a team called Inferno Squad tasked with doing all kinds of dirty work in the name of the Emperor following his death at the hands of Darth Vader. However, as you may have predicted, Iden and her squad mate/lover Del Meeko defect to the Rebellion. Hooray for the good guys! But they have a reason beyond basic goodness: they have a daughter. And their romance began on Jakku, the desert planet Rey was living on (and where she was waiting for her long lost family) during the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
But wait! There’s more! It seems that the game also features Del Meeko meeting up with Kylo Ren after the events of the main storyline and that the former Imperial officer supplies the fallen Ben Solo with the key to finding Lor San Tekka (Max von Sydow), who was killed in the opening scenes of The Force Awakens after passing Luke Skywalker’s location on to Poe Dameron and BB-8.
While some of the puzzle pieces do line up, I think the evidence is stacked against Rey being the offspring of these two Imperial defectors. It feels just plain unlikely that Lucasfilm would allow the answer to one of the saga’s biggest mysteries to be to unveiled in a video game like this. Sure, the Star Wars novels, comics, and games do feature canon information and do fill in information around the margins, but they tend to deepen mysteries or provide background, not provide the biggest and most pressing revelations. If this theory turns out to be true, it’s all rather anticlimactic, which is the last thing you want in a Star Wars story. Honestly, it’s far more likely that their daughter is being set up as the heroine of a future Battlefront game.
Star Wars Battlefront II is on shelves now. And if you’ve been following the recent scandal surrounding the number of microtransactions built into the game, know that EA has officially announced that they have been turned off. For now.

We’re less than two months away from the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and for the most part, everyone involved with the production has remained tight-lipped about spoilers. But that rascal Adam Driver may have just let slip a big clue about Rey and her secretive parentage. Driver, you scamp! Stormtroppers from Disney are probably speeding toward your house right now to give you a stern talking to. Get the possible details on Rey’s parents below!
In the new Star Wars saga, there’s one still unanswered question that towers above the rest: when will Sy Snootles make an appearance? Oh, also, fans want to know who Rey’s parents are. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, new series hero Rey (Daisy Ridley) has been stranded on Jakku for most of her life, waiting for her family to return. And just who are Rey’s family? We don’t know, and there’s a sense Rey doesn’t really know either.
This has, of course, lead to much fan speculation, with the fan consensus being that Rey is related to Luke (Mark Hamill) in some capacity – although that seems too obvious to be true. The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has said in the past that his film will address Rey’s parents in some form, but co-star Adam Driver may have just dropped a pretty big hint. It goes without saying that this should be considered a potential SPOILER, so be warned!
Driver, who plays Darth Vader’s angsty grandson in the series, gave a recent interview to GQ wherein he discusses several things related to The Last Jedi. Among them was this bit of information about his character and also Rey:
“I remember the initial conversations about having things ‘skinned’, peeling away layers to evolve into other people, and the person Kylo’s pretending to be on the outside is not who he is. He’s a vulnerable kid who doesn’t know where to put his energy, but when he puts his mask on, suddenly, he’s playing a role. JJ had that idea initially and I think Rian took it to the next level…You have, also, the hidden identity of this princess who’s hiding who she really is so she can survive and Kylo Ren and her hiding behind these artifices.”
Using the phrase “princess” to describe Rey is very specific. Is there a chance Driver misspoke? Sure, but it seems like the actor may have just revealed a big Star Wars secret. Of course, the question remains: if Rey is a princess, who are her royal parents? The logical conclusion many will draw is that Rey is the daughter of former princess turned general Leia (Carrie Fisher), which would make her Kylo Ren’s sister. But again, this seems a little too obvious. And Leia gave no indication of this in the scenes she shared with Rey in The Force Awakens. Feel free to speculate wildly about what this means! We’ll likely have more answers when Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15, 2017.

The suspicious lack of information over her background in 2015’s The Force Awakens kick-started a load of theories – including the possibility that she is a descendant of the Skywalkers, of Emperor Palpatine or Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Now, there’s yet another sign that we could get answers in Episode 8.
Daisy Ridley has won the prestigious honour of being on the cover of Vogue this month; an article for which writer Gaby Wood had access to the Rey actress, plus directors J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson.
Although Ridley is not directly quoted, Wood writes at one point in the accompanying article: “She [Ridley] lets on that we’ll find out more about what has happened to her family.”
Will we find out precisely who her family are? That, it seems, will continue to be a mystery.
In the interview, Ridley spoke about her struggles with adjusting to life in the public eye.
“I worry that things start to seem normal that aren’t normal,” she pondered.
“You get rushed through airports, and you never have to queue, and you get tickets to things that you wouldn’t otherwise.
“I think it’s important to remind yourself that it’s not normal. It’s difficult, though, because it is my normal.”
The new trailer for Episode 8 was released earlier this week.
Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi releases on December 14 in the UK.
The 30-year-old actress was spotted on the Han Solo movie set last month looking very Princess Leia-like with brown hair and a white dress.
While her character’s identity has been unknown for some time, her name has been revealed by Michael J Williams.
The actor has recently been revealed to have been cut from the Han Solo film, after not being able to attend reshoots, following the firing of director Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Now in a recent interview he revealed that Clarke’s character is called Kira.
Speaking with Vanity Fair, he also said there was a link between Han Solo and Clarke’s Kira.
Star Wars fans have pointed out that Kira was the original name given to Rey, before The Force Awakens began production.
With this in mind, could she be Rey’s mother?
Since Disney has been expanding the Star Wars universe with these spin-offs, it’s possible that Kira could appear in Star Wars Episode IX.
After all there’s already a rumour that The Force Awakens’ Maz Kanata will be in the Han Solo movie.
The untitled Han Solo movie will be released on May 25, 2018.
